Peter Parker's development is very well made without following what the movies or the comics did, he's character that got treated with care and respect.

I really enjoyed the gameplay, it looks spectacular, it feels very responsive and smooth, but it can get repetitive after a while. There's a big variety of gadgets to use, and there are many outfits to choose from.

Sadly, as an Open World game it's very shallow, the side content is disappointing, the collectables are a chore to collect and the challenges are annoying.

I didn't enjoy the most of the bosses, they looked awesome but gameplay-wise they felt tedious and gimmicky.

It's still a very good game though, if you're craving for a Spider-Man adventure, this one is a system seller, pretty much a must-play for everyone who owns a PlayStation.

    Final Rating: "Great" ~ 8/10.

The definitive Spider-Man experience in video games. The most important part of any Spider-Man game should be how well it feels to actually swing around as him. And they nailed that here. I can spend (and have spent) copious amounts of time just swinging around Manhattan. Subway? What subway? Manhattan itself is stunningly beautiful. Colors pop, the world feels alive, small details (like AC unit fans) are present in abundance. The proper tie ins to the larger Marvel universe are there and do not feel shoehorned in. The city functions as a character of its own.

On the other hand, what the game offers is just your bog-standard open world collect-a-thon fare. The map is littered with collections, almost as bad as the map of London from Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Towers to climb (err, hack), backpacks to find, research stations to complete, landmarks to photograph, pigeons to gather, Black Cat locations to scout, Fisk and Demon bases to plunder, thug and Demon crimes to stop, the list goes on. Like the aforementioned Assassin's Creed franchise, only a handful of these tie into the actual story, most are just there to pad overall playtime and are incidental only to the location or a specific character -- essentially there to do just because you're the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. And that's fine to a point, but it becomes tiresome after a while just like every other collect-a-thon open world game. Keep in mind that Ubisoft pioneered this format of open world game and with the latest iterations of their franchises they've fundamentally changed and/or toned down the litter-the-world-with-collectables formula because it was wearing thin on players.

The combat is merely "ok". It's your standard combo button beat-em-up with webslinging/aerial maneuvers interspersed throughout. It's similar to the Batman Arkham series but a bit more frenetic. Stealth is less important than the Batman series but still very useful. If you're rusty with the old combo button/Arkham combat mechanics, it will take a bit to reacquaint yourself but once you unlock a few skills and a couple of suits combat generally becomes easy except on the hardest difficulty setting where the AI just become gods of combat.

All in all it's worth playing but I just don't see it being an 9 or 10 game. It's the same open world, combo brawler design that we've all burned out on since late last generation. Beyond its city traversal method and great attention to detail on the cityscape itself, the game doesn't really bring anything new to the genre.

Follows a very well-worn Spider-Man game formula. The expected mix of open-world web-slinging popularized by Treyarch and Batman: Arkham-style combat introduced by Beenox is present and accounted for. The biggest difference being that this isn't based on any movie. Of course, developer Insomniac Games have added their own personal touches to the experience in the form of things like an RPG leveling up system, upgradeable Spidey gadgets, special suit powers, and the ability to grapple towards and launch yourself from various points in the environment in what feels like a natural evolution of the movement mechanics found in their decent, but pretty underwhelming Sunset Overdrive. The most significant addition however is the inclusion of meaningful side-content for the first time in the wall-crawler's long career on home consoles.

As you progress a variety of optional tasks, challenges, and even small storylines will begin popping up across the map at regular intervals. Their quality varies wildly from legitimately entertaining (timed Taskmaster tests) to mundane (pigeon-catching), but I felt compelled to do them all regardless thanks to their relative brevity. This doesn't follow the Ubisoft structure of littering your screen with hundreds of icons to check-off. Rather, each activity type comes in handfuls to add just a few extra hours of playtime instead of keeping you busy for months on end.

What ultimately most makes this title worth picking up is its original story. Like I said earlier, this isn't some film tie-in, but also isn't set in any previously established continuity either. Insomniac have actually created their own universe complete with unique takes on the brand's history, characters, and lore. It leads to a tale that, while implementing a great deal of novel changes to deep-seated key elements, remains faithful to the true essence of who Spider-Man is with strong, surprisingly emotional writing that sets up so many exciting venues for them to go in the future. It's by far the greatest distinguishing part of the package.

The overall familiarity keeps this from being something I can truly rave about, yet at the same time stands as the reason I enjoyed it so much. I was transported back to the PS2 era over the course of this superhero adventure. Memories of playing the titles derived from the Raimi works and Ultimate came flooding back, and accompanied by the smoothest gameplay Parker has seen so far outside of the occasional glitches you'll encounter. As a result, I can do nothing than recommend that every web-head fan pick this up, even if only for the nostalgic feeling alone.

The gameplay is very fun. Swinging didn't initially interest me, but once you get used to it, and become optimal, it's really a lot of fun. Also the game allows for fast travelling which helps reduce it getting boring.

One thing this game made me thing a lot though is how great the Rocksteady Batman Arkham games were. A lot of spider-man fet directly copied, and the combat and gadets did feel like knock offs of the batman games.
However, the game is still fun despite this I just hope the batman games are revisited on ps5.
I highly recommend spider-man rematsered if you ahven't played that version. I only had a few crashes playing the game after beating the story and side missions. So no crashes until then.

This game feels like a modern version of the Spider-Man 2 game, with several upgrades in terms of movement mechanics and combat mechanics (and a new stealth takedown system). Meticulously crafted, smooth and dynamic. It is fun to fly and leap around as Spidey. Even for an absolute non-fan of Marviel comics and stories, the game was very enjoyable. Things became repetitive after a while, and completing the game felt a bit too long for me, that would be my main complaint. But it is a show of a game in any case. Recommended

I was surprised how much fun this game is to play. Story is really not good, missions are OK, but it's extremely fun to fly around the city and solve stuff! One of the biggest flaws is grinding crimes for platinum trophy. It took me some time to fly around the city and solve little crime missions just to get last trophy. Completely unnecessary!

This is just a god-level superhero game. Everything screams Spider-Man right down to the split-second responsiveness of the chain fighting controls. It just demands to be experienced at least once.

Great game ,Great story, gamesplay and graphics
    Combat is easy
Boss fight are not that hard
Only one issue is that too many crime mission take age to get to platinum
Other story is good can be completed in 15 hours

Ohhh brother I was so hyped to play this game. I finally got my hands on it and I was entertained but nothing here was revolutionary for me. The single player campaign is good length. I felt glued to the chair when spider-man jumped, dodged obstacles and fired his web. When the game falls flat to me was outside main story missions.

The city felt lifeless and little flat. New York looked amazing and city looked busy but the moment you landed on the ground the level of interactions was rather limited. This made city feel boring and flat to me. You have tons of activities but these really feel the same. I did not feel the need to do all of them. (I did most of the side activities and might come back to the game to do some more but they all come down to fighting waves of enemies or swinging through the city and collecting stuff). It is little bland when compared to the main campaign missions.

The combat system is good so you might do most of all of the side activities. What makes it interesting are spidy gadgets which bring more variety to the combat mechanics. There is also light progression system which will help you unlock new/improved ways of annihilating your enemies and will bring more flow to the engagements.
Traversing through the world is lots of fun, there are lots of collectables and mini crime stopping activities which if completed will reward you with tokens that can be spent on upgrades and costumes. There are plenty of those.

I played game on base ps4 model and 65 inch TV. It all looked very cinematic but graphic was not the next level like God Of War or RDR2 but it was definitly a good looking game. I wonder how it looks in 4k.

I overall liked the game. I enjoyed Spider-man movie but by all means am not a die hard fan. For me it is solid 8/10 game.(if you are a fan it might be an 9 or maybe even a 10).

    Pros:
    - this Amazing campaign
    - lots of very interesting villains
    - combat sytem
    - voice acting
    - web slinging and gadgets

    Cons:
    - lacked of variaty
    - flat city deisgn
    - repetetive side activities

It's a surprisingly good and enjoyable game. The best of Batman games packed with more quips and light by the titular character.

Pros: + The developers use Spider-Man's lore wisely. Spidey's backpacks with memorabilia, a podcast with JJJ, taking photos in NY, Peter being a scientist, NY. It's all mixed up with great love and skill. + Web swinging through Manhattan is done perfectly.

+ Web swinging through Manhattan is done perfectly. The best part of the game.
+ Spider-Man has a perfect villain's gallery. And it shines in this game.
+ Fighting system is borrowed from Batman and still very satisfying.
    + Fighting challenges are engaging.
+ The game has a wonderful pace and doesn't stumble much.
+ Silver Sable is hot af.

    Cons:
    - Half the villain fights are meh.
    - MJ and Miles stealth sections genuinely suck.
    - NY is full of thugs all the time. Which feels weird and unrealistic.
    - The game sometimes feels like an iPhone title. It has very satisfying gameplay loops. Though you can see through the cracks how it was made. I would compare this to a typical Marvel movie. You will not be fooled or really surprised. You will enjoy it, though. It's a comfort food.

    UPD from 2019 to 2021:
    * I finally beat the game 100%. I hated all the repetitive fighting.
    * Then I replayed NG+ on Ultimate. The story is cheesy, the ending is great, I hated stealth less, and the game predicted 1. covid with Devil's Breath in NY and people wearing mask and 2. Navalny's poisoning with Spidey needing atropine to save himself from neurotoxin.

From top to bottom this game is definitely a 10 out of 10. I'm not sure the people posting negative reviews even played the same game. I played both this and Miles Morales on my ps5 and framerate differences were minimal. The reflections and graphics did look better on Miles but that didn't effect the game play. I never has the issue that one person is complaining about, the framerate drop after using a web. Nothing about this game felt sluggish at all. The other complaint about playing as MJ for a whole 15 minutes must have never read a Spiderman comic in their life. The story was almost always involving MJ in some way. As for the quips, another person who's never read a Spiderman comic and just goes by what the Fox and MCU movies did. -Unique creative way of traveling around town. Swinging around never been this fun.

    Cons
-Story is not really interesting until near the end game
-People in the world feel unreal. You mostly cannot interact with people in the street at all.
-Graphic does not feel impressive. Spider man looks fantastic but the environment looks lack of detail.
-Stealth sections of side characters, sometimes feel repeptitive.

In sum, Spiderman is an awesome game that everyone should give it a try. Fluid fun combat is where Spiderman shines. Story, however, can be improved as well as the world environment. I still think Batman is better game overall for a 1-2 step ahead, but surely Spiderman is right behind. I would love to play Spiderman 2. The way you can go from running up a wall, to zipping across the street in a blink of an eye is all just so seamless. Another highlight for me was the combat, it's the familiar Batman formula but I dunno, it just felt more slick in its execution. The transitions from regular attacks to finishers was so fluid. The final big plus for me was the story and voice acting, I really cared about the characters and they were all voiced so well, something which gets neglected far too often I find. Visually it was also very good, with some of the faces looking almost eerily realistic.

As for the negatives I have to say I really didn't enjoy the stealth sections where you played as MJ or Miles, creeping around boxes is just not fun IMO. I also felt all of the side content was complete faff and added nothing to do the game, I skipped as much of it as possible and focused on the main story which was good. A minor niggle but failable, mission resetting QTE's? Come on, son. Oh and those stupid science mini games.....

When it comes to the story... it has its moments. And it may com as a surprise that for me, the best moments were closer to the beginning than to the epic climax of the game. I felt more engaged when I had to take a break in fighting crime in order to find a new place to stay after I got kicked from my apartment than when I was fighting 6 super villains at once. During later game scenes I felt like in pumped-up blockbuster with apocalypse on the horizon and dozen of major threats ongoing. And I did not liked that.
Overall, it is a very good game. I recommend it.

I am an old school Spider-man fan, reading the comics from the 70's, 80's and 90's. It is these comics that my knowledge comes from Spider-man and what I compare to when watching a movie or playing a game. This is why the game got a nine out of ten, rather than a 10/10. The game is good and while I understand the story is most definitely an independent one, there were still aspects that I found did not fit certain characters and then there was too much time on some characters and not enough on others. There were also aspects of the game play that could have been improved upon too, so my complaints of the game are not totally directed out of changes to characters and certain story arcs. That being said, I still enjoyed swinging through New York and collecting things and trying to fight crime in the city!

The story, Spider-man starts out taking down the Kingpin and this seems to set a whole lot of stuff in motion. A new criminal organization has emerged and its goal seems to be to cause as much damage to New York as possible to make Mayor Norman Osborne look bad. Meanwhile. Spider-man is helping out as a lab tech with his friend and mentor Doctor Otto Octavious. Otto seems to share the hatred that the new enemy targeting New York has and soon the doctor loses his mind and forms a team of villains to try and bring the city and Norman to his knees. Only Spider-man stands in their way along with some help from Mary Jane and Miles Morales!

During the time I read the comics Dr. Octopus was Spidy's main villain. Venom had his moments, but Dr. Octopus was always there with some nefarious plan. He never knew Pete before the change, and I am not sure why this game and the movie had him and Pete share a mentor relationship. Sam Rami always professed a love for earlier Spider-man comics, but always took strange leaps like organic web shooters and such. He and this game make poor Otto seem sympathetic, but in the comics once he lost his mind, he never had regrets. They would later make Norman emerge again as the Goblin, but to me Doctor Octopus will always be Spider-man's most unique villain. To me, the Green Goblin is just The Joker with powers and a glider. The Sinister Six was also originally Doctor Octopus, Electro, Vulture, Sandman, Mysterio and Kraven the hunter who always gets ignored these days! Here, they have three of the original members, Doc Ock, Vulture and Electro and add the new villain, Mr. Negative and oldies but goodies Rhino and Scorpion. I was very disappointed when I could not fight each of these villains one on one, for some reason they really skimped on Electro, Vulture, Rhino and Scorpion.

The game play is fun, what one would expect for a Spider-man game made since the game based on the second movie came out. A lot of swinging around New York and stopping crime. You also have side missions, collectibles and tokens to earn! The game keeps you busy that is for! What it needed though were some more villains of the super powered variety. It would have been cool had Shocker been running around the city when the criminals were running rampant and you could fight him occasionally and maybe a few others of the lesser known super villains. At times it can get repetitive fighting dudes in orange jumpsuits! There are also times when you take control of MJ or Miles and you have to get through areas without getting caught and they change up the pace.

So, the game is good, I loved seeing Doctor Octopus as the main villain in the end, I was so fearful that Mr. Negative would end up being the leader of the Sinister Six. The fighting is fun, the story is rather good, but both aspects have flaws. Any story flaws I found, won't really affect any of the newer generation of comic book readers, I just came from a different time. The game play flaws, well at times you kind of wish there was more to do and those challenge tokens are a bit too scarce and hard to get! Overall, a really fun game and I look forward to playing the Miles Morales Spider-man one day.

A little late to the party, but this is one of the best games I've ever played. Similar in feel and scope to the Arkham games, I very much feel like I'm playing Spiderman. From the stealth moves to the fluid combat, it's just awesome to move around and do things in this game. The voice acting is great and the overall writing and story is on par with the movies. Amazing combat, graphics, and sound. Game plays like magic. Insomniac clearly put a lot of love into this game and to me... It's the best super hero game out there.

The Kombat is serious. The grafics look decent, it runs smoothly (stable 30fps), the city is awesome, the animations are top notch. Oh and did I mention?: The Kombat is great. The Web swinging is also very very cool.

Well I wrote a review and it got censored so...

PS5 version review: 8, good spider-man game, Manhattan is visually impressive at a distance, but has problems that all open-world games seem to have. NPC pedestrians look awful up close, and there is no game that has done that effectively except for MAYBE (a PC supercomputer running Cyberpunk 2077 with a million mods & maxed out visually)

The base game seems short, but you get Miles Morales + all of Spider-Man's DLC included - the latter being far more interesting content.

Cons: propaganda inciting eco-terrorism in Harry Oswald's mission chain, and virtue signalling to get certain people to buy your game.

I have been having a blast zipping around New York. You feel so creative and in control of Spidey. It kind of reminds me of the combat from games like Shadow of Mordor, where no matter how many bad guys you are fighting, you can always easily escape the chaos for a second to refocus, because you are just so much more agile than the people you are fighting. One of the best Spider-man games in history and a victory for the future of the singleplayer AAA games.

There are myriad good reasons why Marvel's Spider-Man is the best-selling and highest-rated Spider-Man title in years. While it has a few glaring flaws, they pale in comparison to all of the things the team at Insomniac got right. A well-acted, strong story serves as the backbone for an experience that just plain feels right for Spider-Man, and fans and newcomers alike won't be disappointed by this trip to the Spider-verse.

This game does for Spider-Man what the Arkham series did for Batman. Immensely satisfying movement system, excellent combat, fast pace, superb visuals and wealth of side activities converge to bring a wonderful experienced, diluted only by some minor missteps in the story and a couple of stealth sequences where you control supporting characters instead of Spidey.
