    Madden 21 was the worst sports game I’ve ever played. However, EA put in the time and the effort that us fans have been saying for years. The Madden franchise community (except for people that only make money off of saying bad stuff on the game) has embraced and loved the changes. This game is the best Madden since Madden 12. I tip my hat to Mr. Weingarten, Mr. Douglas, and the entire EAMadden 21 was the worst sports game I’ve ever played. However, EA put in the time and the effort that us fans have been saying for years. The Madden franchise community (except for people that only make money off of saying bad stuff on the game) has embraced and loved the changes. This game is the best Madden since Madden 12. I tip my hat to Mr. Weingarten, Mr. Douglas, and the entire EA team for making such a great game. If you add the ability to edit coordinator names I’ll find a way to make this score an 11/10… Expand

    Madden has made so many great changes this year than they have for the past 7 games combined and they're all amazing. Madden took a huge step this year and will continue to build on it for years to come. Stop hating and saying they made no changes this when the literally made so many huge changes.

    It's better than Madden 21 and while there are improvements in Franchise Mode, I feel like there could be more. And they made improvements to the gameplay. However, I honestly don't like the new home field advantage and the return of X- Factors. But overall, Madden NFL 22 is a very solid game.

    Needless to say I still got this for a discount and I highly, highly doubt I will ever purchase another Madden NFL ever again.    … Expand

    I have a lot of fun with this game, but it's so pay to win it's not even funny. I forbid myself from rating it higher than this but It's still a blast.

    Cmon man, this is not nearly as bad as some people are pointing out to be, it does have it flaws, as every Madden game, and the franchise score bug is inexcusable, but after not buying Madden 21, and coming back this season, this game is clearly better. Stop thinking about it as a simulation game, it clearly is not.

    Its fun to play with other people in the house but I can tell Madden has really sold out as a franchise. I can speak on this since I have been a player since madden 03 as a kid. I won't elaborate but I won't buy another Madden and I hope they lose their exclusive license soon. They need healthy competition.

    Is it good? No. Is it better than all the other frostbite engine Maddens? Yes. And it's the only way to play football with 17 game seasons and 14 team playoffs.

EA has completely cut every cost in development purely to rake in as much profits from the imbeciles spending $ on Ultimate Team, which is aiding in the slow decline of quality in games. Madden NFL is decent. More animations for game play is nice, however Madden is too animations dependent. The graphics are still mediocre. Remember during the PS2Madden NFL is in a very sad state. Within 30 minutes of playing the game I had already restarted it twice because of all the glitches I got.     I'm giving it 2 for extremely funny glitches., otherwise it would get 0. I don't understand why are we buying it every year and expecting something better from EA. They won't change a thing unless the tap with cash will stop flowing.

    I like the new presentation I enjoy after making a play how they run it back much better then last year. Gameplay is still a mess, I'm not sure how ea thought this was ok to to give us fans. Zones are still horrible, double teams don't really work, wr still dropping balls for no reason.     The madden that sent me into retirement after being a madden player for 30 years. Animations are low quality, unrealistic reactions in coverages and the pass rush is dialed back to nothing. Lead blockers missing blocks, defensive lineman not being able to disengage to make a play. Ratings that mean nothing mostly and overpowered xfactors.

    The only reason I’m giving this a 2 is because of minor franchise mode improvements but the franchise mode is still mostly bare bones gameplay sucks career mode is cringy and presentation on current gen is still the same damn thing if you get next gen there are brand new cutscenes and that’s it the game still focuses on ultimate team though

The core gameplay remains unchanged and honestly feels worse. Coverage is terrible and unusable. Inside runs/blocking are overpowered and cheesy.     EA once again proves why they should NOT have the exclusive NFL license. Minimal changes to all game modes including franchise. Gameplay is horrible with the same animations that have been in the games for multiple years now. Just a sorry excuse for a Football game and another waste of $60 :/

    Like madden 2005,nfl 2k5 can produce football games and A.I.,that Play,and react appropriately(functioning to the degree that represents true football and the quality expected from the NFL Brand!Ea just released a half baked game,with recycled features from madden 08-12,and instead of breaking a broken game down and bringing us a complete and revamped football experience;Ea gave us the same game port,tweaked with completely busted defense,defensive Ai,the same ability for individual players to scan and make ridiculous int’s,many warped animations still,,defenders pass rushing through the gaps stopping at line of scrimmage,man coverage shot,zone shot, players responding to all of the wrong things on defense (or not at all),the ability to have to sit back and wait a month or two to be able to start and enjoy franchise,because scouting wasn’t ready and needs to be patched in at an unknown date!
    I mean the game doesn’t allow for any real football,the players simply don’t respond on defense,stop and glitch off animations and whatever mechanics built in,that won’t allow them do functions and intelligently respond effectively,so it’s an offerensige free for all!Physics are still suspect and need to be trashed,replaced for a totally new system(without the animations):perhaps a revamped game breaker physics system?!?!
    It’s utterly breathtaking that anyone that has internet service can go back and watch videos from madden 05 or nfl 2k5 and realize that defenses actually played,functioned,responded and reacted appropriately to their abilities etc,and the A.I.and gameplay back then were light years ahead of where we are currently with madden(being updated 1000 times yearly,and never getting a proper,fully functional game by the time the next years roster update!2021,Cant match gameplay of 2004?WTF!

    I don’t have a ps5 so I can’t speak on some “new”features they brought into the game but based off of playing current gen it’s the same bad game especially for franchise players playing solo the cpu are still flat route/dump off kings and gameplay gets very boring and stale immediately I have to put the play lock on 2-4 so I can try to keep it fresh but they won’t throw further than thatI don’t have a ps5 so I can’t speak on some “new”features they brought into the game but based off of playing current gen it’s the same bad game especially for franchise players playing solo the cpu are still flat route/dump off kings and gameplay gets very boring and stale immediately I have to put the play lock on 2-4 so I can try to keep it fresh but they won’t throw further than that drafting sucks it doesn’t have new positions yet and basically after playing a few games you’re burnt out cuz you been playing the same thing for the past couple of years (once you get used to the movement) then the other game modes aren’t fun and the only fun you would probably have fun in (mut) is pay to win and even if you grind the game solos it takes forever to get a competitive team they think they’re slick by having yt’s have no money spent teams to trick ppl but the difference is…. THATS THEIR JOB they have all the time in the world to grind that stuff if you’re a regular human whether your younger or older you either have school or work that takes up half your day not to mention other things irl that keeps you from putting that much time as they do into the game so yes even if you grind the game factoring in the irl things it will take a while to get a competitive team Bottom line my three things are
    1.make gameplay better than what it is nobody wants animation style game that’s why ppl are easily able to break the game w plays etc every year and it just sucks the fun out of it
    2.make franchise fun and deep again instead of this bland mix we have now only just upgrading the screen for cosmetic feel
    3. Make MUT free to play and take out micro transactions (or tone it down heavily) and make the prizes and incentive better than what they are (jack**** and worthless) EA if you don’t care about your customers and fans of the game stop signing the nfl rights stuff please    … Expand

    First of all, I‘d like to point out the positive fact, that EA has reacted to their community by apparently trying to improve their Franchise mode. Hashtags such as #fixmaddenfranchise were trending and it is good to see them actually responding to this.

    However, the only difference you can actually feel in this game, is the different layout of menus and little additions such as the homefield advantage. This community desperately asks for a more in depth customization of their playing experience. The staff options are decent, but they were not even among the top 5 additions, that this community frequently asks for. I understand that EA or the NFL has concerns about customization aspects, such as creating a team with jerseys or adding tattoos. Yet these are the little things, that are possible on a technical side and EA had this stuff in their games over a decade ago.

    To summarize my point: it‘s the same game as every year, with some different menus. The gameplay and graphics changes are hardly noticable. Their "additions“ simply can‘t change the fact, that you get bored after less then a single season in Franchise Mode. Safe your money guys and lets just hope that the upcoming NCAA will simply copy everything they had in 2014 with better graphics. It‘s sad, but that would already be a huge improvement compared to every Madden after Madden 25. And if there is one wish I can ask for:

    Keep those Madden developers as far away from the NCAA-game as possible. Please EA, just do it for your community. It will be worth it.    … Expand

I say every year I'm not buying the new madden.. then I get it on the day it comes out..lol.. but this year, I'm done. I will never buy another madden game.     While the addition of the staff tree is a nice touch, it is woefully below what EA offered for a staff in Head Coach 15 years ago. The Scouting Update, which again is just clawing back to levels the game was at previously, was supposed to be a game changer. A month later, no news whatsoever from EA. I skipped Madden 21, I am sorry I bought Madden 22. I have lost faith in EA. There is no real halftime show, and yet Brandon Gaudin gets pissed when you skip the 10-second blank screen with no stats, no anything. He says one or two sentences, then you're at kickoff. The game looks almost identical on ps4 as on the ps5. Gameplay has had the same issues since Madden 19, y shallow cross leaves the ai defense helpless, we won't talk about that. Oh, and the bugs. There are several videos on YouTube, I'm sure you've seen most of them, just unacceptable of a $60 sports game in 2021. Let's start speaking with our wallets, people. Anybody who has played the recent Madden games (18-22) knows that EA is not going to change the game if we just keep buying it every year and complaining about it. EA DON'T GIVE A **** Play the old ones on the PS2, awesome games. I play NFL 2k5, a masterpiece that has aged like fine wine. to people saying "oh, my friends would make fun of me if they saw me playing a 17-year-old game" **** them. Let them keep feeding EA's cycle of **** and enjoy yourself. Matter fact, go outside and play football. Spend some time with your friends. Just have fun, at the end of the day. That’s really all we buy it for because we always expect the same trash of a game with pay to win MUT mode. Franchise mode is terrible as always. The game is broken. No skill or football knowledge needed whatsoever. TRASH. Save your money and DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

Or just run up the middle and watch the moronic DL get sucked into blocking animations as you prance by. Otherwise they will somehow warp over to you and make a tackle like they invented teleportation. LOL! What a train wreck. On defense, you will get no pash rush as usuall unless you take control of a lineman yourself. The rest of the team just gets tied up in block animations. Doesn't matter if you have all 99 rated pash rushers. They can't even beat a 70 rated OL, and they can't stop the run ever. On the flip side, the cpu never seems to have that problem, as their x factor DT will blow up the center on every run play you try. It's comical at this point. It's more like NFL Blitz than an actual football simulation. Running backs still can't cut properly and they still do that semi truck like turn right into an unblocked Linebacker. My god, it's bad and it's not getting better. Not that EA cares, cuz they are making mega money of gambling addicted teens you are jacking up their parents credit cards every month for that diamond whoever superstar.

    Furthermore, nothing you do in this game matters. I can easily win with a 65 rated QB and a trash OL. None of the ratings matter since everything is predetermined by canned animations. I have 75 rated WR making unbelievable 1 handed catches without a problem. The X factors at this point are tired too. They don't seem to affect the game too much. The strategy boosts you get during the weekly practices are hardly noticeable. Just another "new" shallow game mechanic. The "new" scouting that is coming is just ripped from NHL. Man, what can you say? This game exists for Ultimate team players and that's it.

    The last good Maddens that came out were 10 and 12. That's how long this game has sucked now. What a disgrace. Can we get a damn football game please? Look at how much 2k packs into their basketball game. I'm not saying that game is perfect, but it does have a ton of features that should be standard in sports games.    … Expand

    While the RyanMoody21 and SoftDrinkTv YouTube channels exposes just how fake fixed & garbage this game is. Allow me to explain further on this monopoly.

    The game is designed to keep you online as much as possible to increase the odds that you will spend money. Its best exploit is by not matching you up against players of your skill level or simply anyone, but they make sure that you play who they want you to play AND when you play, EA will help the team that they want to win. Why? I've never heard anyone explain this yet, but if EA can keep everyone's record close to even, everyone will think that spending money to attempt to get just another player or 2 that they will be able to dominate and tip the scales on their winning percentage. It never works that way though. You still win the same amount. Your new player will perform like a true champion but other players will be slacking. The new players play hard for a month when released and then EA slows them down which makes you want to upgrade again and then you find yourself paying EA again.
    There's a number of different types of crypto currencies in the game except this is not able to be cashed in ever. It just serves to get you to again reach for your wallet.

    All of the different game modes that were a part of Madden and the fun things you could do before Ultimate Team took off are gone. You can play without Ultimate Team but Ultimate Team is EAs ONLY focus with the game.

    EA puts out a pre-order edition every year but it's never based around Madden but particularly the ultimate team mode. Every load screen is another attempt to try luring you to ultimate team mode. Right now, you can win but this is the early access period. In just a few days, as sure as always, EA will change up the online matchmaking. At that point, go check all your friends records. You can do this all the way back to Madden 15 and what you will see is that everyone wins 45 to 63% of their games.
    Save your money. The game will be free in no time. Actually EA is already giving the game away for free. Here's how: go on Twitter and type in #MaddenNFL22 or #Madden22. You'll find endless people saying that they are giving away codes to download the game for free. Those codes are coming straight from EA because only they can produce them. This is yearly. They don't care about selling the game. They want you in ultimate team so they can make tons more from you via microtransactions. While plenty of people claim to not spend on their team, this strategy is calling them liars.    … Expand

    It's easy to tell that the developer lack passion for this game. The changes are microscopic. Until EA attempts to compete with NBA 2k "MY NBA" (a franchise mode that has everything you could desire) it will be a failure. It's very disappointing.

    An example? I call a go route, throw it, the CPU runs the opposite direction of the ball and my player catches the ball uncontested. Year in and year out this is usually pumped up as a copy and paste game and it feels like this year while they have tried to make some subtle changes to some things? The UI, gameplay and bugs are all the same.

    Ill update my score if i think the updates really make franchise worth playing but as of now? No. Will let this sit on my HD until more patches come.    … Expand

It makes the user interface even worse now. And game play glitches are all over in this Madden. Some from Madden 21 make a return in the new Madden. Save your money, don't buy

For a game bringing in billions, I don't understand why this game can't get more devs hired for more yearly improvements. Madden's from last decade (See 12) have WAY more features,

    MUT, FUT and all the predatory micro transaction schemes utilized on all of these games should be placed under heavy gov scrutiny in each country.

    If you are a football junkie, stop, no sport is worth worshiping players in... that being said, buy a used copy of last years game, update the rosters (or buy the PC edition and update the rosters with more options). This is not sim football. Continue this until the game goes F2P or the actual football becomes "sim-like" at least and has more depth than a baby's wading pool.    … Expand

    I want to rate the game higher because of all the new features and effort swami and other devs put into Franchise but the gameplay is so bad its still almost unplayable if you want simulation football. Full of bugs, glitches, and still runs on a FPS shooter engine.

    I've been playing Madden since I was a kid, going back to the very early 90s. Sega Genesis to PSX to PS2 (EA's Platinum Era) to PS3 to PS4. I think barring an act of God, this is where it ends. Madden 21    This is Madden 21.1 in all honesty, virtually the same game as 21 with a roster update and some stuff they didn't put into 21. Only, IT'S STILL NOT TECHNICALLY IN THE GAME YET!!!

    I've been playing Madden since I was a kid, going back to the very early 90s. Sega Genesis to PSX to PS2 (EA's Platinum Era) to PS3 to PS4. I think barring an act of God, this is where it ends. Madden 21 was the worst Madden I played, until I got my hands on 21.1 this year. I played the 10 hour trial, cause honestly, there's seriously no point in giving this company my money when I have no vested interest in Ultimate Team or The Yard or Superstar KO or any of the other gimmicky modes they've pumped in during the time it has taken them to neglect Franchise Mode to where now it's a glorified Season Mode that they're still working on. Only there's no real way to tell when the work will be done, or what specifically is being worked on.

    The lone positive I will say about Season Mode 2.0 is that they polished off their League History tab going all the way back to I believe 1980. When that's the only positive you have at this stage of the game, you've got NOTHING. This mode which once upon a time was this game's bread & butter, is next to nothing now. Now they're trying add a bunch of stuff from NHL, which is destined to fail. The other problem this game runs into. Probably one of the biggest, it's an arcade game trying to add simulation aspects into it. Simply put, it's Skim Milk in video game form.

    They put coaching staffs back in the game, but there are NO LICENSED COORDINATORS. That's right, it's 2021 and this game doesn't have real coordinators in it. 10 years ago, Madden NFL 12 had real coordinators in it. It had gameplay which made ratings matter, with player roles that didn't get cancelled out because of some arcade gimmick known as X-Factors. EA hasn't cared about Franchise Mode since Madden NFL 12 and it has gotten progressively worse ever since the reboot 13 gave us which nobody asked for. Tying so much to specific in game tasks reeks of 'Busy Work', which this mode never did in its heyday.

    At the end of the day, EA's asking you to pay for a game that's at best a clone of last year's with a new coat of paint yet not much more than that. Commentary is mostly untouched from a year ago. Franchise hasn't been touched while it's essentially a new interface splashed on top of the same stuff from the last few years. (Really, they did a crap job in concealing this.) The changes EA's looking to make, won't be done with a slew of patches stretched out over the next handful of months. What is necessary to turn this around, is a full year to tear this down and start from scratch. The game has no refs present during actual gameplay, yet it has a 17th week in the regular season & one fewer preseason game. Like I said before, this game can't make its mind up what it wants to be. EA's locked in on its core audience, namely the MUT crowd so they feel comfortable dragging along the folks who play Franchise cause...

    A) They know there's no other NFL game other than past NFL titles on older systems.
    B) They're making solid coin off of the Ultimate Team crowd who have shown them it doesn't matter how bad the game is, they'll keep giving EA their money for packs on the regular.

    The MUT crowd is the biggest hinderance folks who love Franchise have presently. As long as EA can reliably count on them, this game is a done deal. Not to mention gameplay which is heavy on the arcade with X-Factor involved, that pretty much invalidates the ratings they want you to think matters, when in reality they don't.     Not enough improvement to warrant the price tag. New menus are horrible to navigate, OC and DC inclusion is barebones, number of rookies added doesn't seem fleshed out (signing specific positions for practice squad is difficult) and game constantly crashes. Wait for the updates.

Bugs I’ve experienced the first few weeks of playing: 1.) my offense switches sides of the field and plays defense 2.) the camera angle switches to the defensive camera angle when I’m on offense in face of the franchise 3.) Not even their beloved ultimate team is safe from bugs where i had to keep restarting the app every time i finished a challenge because when i pressed continued it froze.     Different year, sammmeeee game. Same animations same...everything! You could SERIOUSLY play Madden 13 with updated rosters and it would be the same game. EA, graphics aren't everything I mean lower the graphics, put the refs back in, create your own team, stadium and everything else you had in 05 This is absolutely ridiculous and I'm completely DONE WITH EA.

    Madden is a billion dollar franchise that has grown content. Thanks to its exclusivity deals, EA takes zero risks and fumbles each year providing us rehashed versions of previous entries. Madden NFL 22 is no different. Meager improvements are outweighed by series fatigue. Instead of focusing on giving us polished gameplay mechanics and an improved Franchise Mode, EA's focus is divided into unwelcome modes like Face The Franchise and The Yard leading to an overall incomplete and broken experience.
