    I will say it again this year. This game is identical gameplay wise to Madden 15 and is animation based and with that being said the animations are absolutely horrible. If you cant implement football logic into a FOOTBALL game it isnt simulation... stop buying out the NFL license so you can be lazy as absolute crap and put out this garbage year after gear. Its the same copy and paste jobI will say it again this year. This game is identical gameplay wise to Madden 15 and is animation based and with that being said the animations are absolutely horrible.     Comparing Madden 22 to 21 shouldn't be the way this game is scored as it's a replication of multiple years of bad development. Just like last year, this game is an absolute joke of a simulation game. Stop comparing this game to last year and compare it to games outside of the sports genre, compare it to 2K5 or even compare it to Madden 05.     How do people get excited about Madden's most popular mode, Ultimate Team, when the only differences are visual? How do you get excited about an 87 Tyreek Hill card that was just 99 OVR a month ago? Do the "new" solo challenges feel fresh or do you enjoy playing buggy head-to-head games over and over and over?! Do you enjoy the other team disappearing from the screen or kicking an inactive ball around because neither team can pick it up? Then this is the game for you!

    People who believe this is a good game never played a good game. The standards we hold EA to as a football community are embarrassing when you see all of the refunds being offered for games like CyberPunk and Fallout 76. This game isn't good ... its a recycled version of Madden 19 (if not earlier). If last years game was the worst rated game of all time, what is stopping this game from replicating it in the grand scheme of things?!    … Expand

    Same game no changes. What's curious to me is that the positive user reviewers (the ones giving it a 9 or 10) for this game have only reviewed this game. And their reviews are the exact same for every platform available for review.

    Same game as Madden 21 and Madden 20. Commentary is the same and so is the bad blocking and do not see all these new animations they added. Plus Zone defenses did not work and issues with franchise mode crashing on me in the trial. If I can get one of the millions of free copies they are giving away then maybe I will play it!

    This is just awful, like most things EA Sports touches. Madden has been a terrible franchise since 2013, and this is another game to add to the list. It is an exact clone of Madden 20, complete with the glitches, terrible animations, and unrealistic game play.
    But on the bright side, Ryan Moody is going to have another kick-ass year showcasing Madden glitches in all of their glory.

The twitter handle for EA advised that the issue lay with Microsoft and no one is has confirmed. I was looking for improvements to the franchise mode but I didn't see anything that I found excited about. But I don't think I buy madden 2023 this was the last roll of the dice as I see that they only focus on things that I don't like such as ultimate team and Face of the Franchise. I'm just disappointed at this stage, this game has been the same for a while I've known that, but this year I felt it more than ever.

    No innovation no customisation, "Create your own play" that is the type Thing that I was hoping for. Instead EA force feed "the Yard" which is clearly a Cash grab and I can feel it when I see this mode, Face of the Franchise which doesn't resonate with me personally. MUT cards and Packs and that stuff is the focus.

    this year more than every the changes to game play such as play movement looks and plays unnatural. the QB leans back and forth like he is on a motorbike or something it looks odd. I am complaining a bit but I've kinda had it with Madden this year. It's as is EA are saying this best we can do for you for me as fan of the game.     First off I was in franchise mode won the game 14-30 I go back to the home screen of franchise mode says I lost 14-0, it shows 0's across the box score. Second off, franchise mode has the coach in his office for split seconds making the game heavy laggy and slow ea needs to fix this, ea needs to stop making football games, ea sucks.

As soon as I started the game, I had players not showing up on the field, glitching through each other, random crazy ball physics, every single glitch in last year's game still seems to be present.

    Slightly better than Madden 21 because they brought back a bare bones coaching staff with coaching trees. However, there is still just so much wrong with this game. They copy and paste, but, do so badly. The game is sluggish, and it's do in part to errors like having the last several years background animation under the current animation. On top of that, the developers mock and belittle customers. They block users that voice they don't like the game. EA sports will ignore critical responses.

I decided to give this a chance during the EA Access Trial and the game disappointed me thoroughly. The screens were slow and choppy, the gameplay was nothing like actual football, zone defense is atrocious, coverage players have literally no logic at all and will standIf you were thinking of buying this game because you wanted to enjoy a simulation football experience. Do NOT bother. I decided to give this a chance during the EA Access Trial and the game disappointed me thoroughly. The screens were slow and choppy, the gameplay was nothing like actual football, zone defense is atrocious, coverage players have literally no logic at all and will stand there and watch the football fly over their heads when an NFL safety would easily make a play. This game is just the example of a team of developers who don’t care about making their community happy. This game isn’t Madden 22. It’s Madden 21.2. If we could even call Madden 21 a complete game, because if we’re being totally honest.     EA, you have lost the trust, faith, appreciation, and respect from even your most loyal fans such as myself by your true lack of care, greed, and true effort of attempting to take advantage of your customers since Madden 13 came out. I said enough was enough when Madden 21 came out and ever since I have refused to buy this game because that would mean I would support the very company I have grown to despise so much by buying their product. Leaders in our community such as Ryan Moody have helped people such as myself learn the truth about EA and their exclusive (Monopoly) license with the NFL and if we want a good simulation football game ever again then we must fight back against the evil EA Sports. Join the cause by not buying Madden 22 and together we can help companies such as 2K get bank to doing what they do best. We can win the fight people, just continue to remain strong and determined.     Buggy and completely broken franchise mode. After every game even if I win 31-17, it gives me the loss 17-0. This happened twice in a row and apparently is happening to tons of people in franchise mode. This is so basic. Did they test it at all? The answer is likely, no. Please give up the rights EA.

As an enormous football fan, I would absolutely love to have even a MEDIOCRE simulation football game... unfortunately, this game is a blatant copy of all of the games past - except with a few minor touches that should have been in Madden 18. Not to mention that all of the advertised cinematic upgrades and much of the "Next Gen" stuff is all exclusive to the spasely available next gen consoles, PS4 and XB1 got robbed. There are times when you are making a big play downfield and your fellow wr is refusing to block and walking around as if he was on the sideline. The defense this year is non existent. The pass leading is horrendous with wide open drag routes resulting in interceptions. This is an animation based game with predetermined outcomes before the ball even gets within 30 yards of the reciever which results in poor gameplay. A 5'10 corner will regularly out jump a 6'5 wide reciever. Madden gets worse and worse every year and it's honestly sad if John Madden knew what this game has become he would not allow his name to be on the title anymore. We need 2k to have an NFL license again because until there is healthy competition this game will continue to regress. Ea has no incentive to produce a better game because they are making BILLIONS off people who are addicted to ultimate teams and will continue to do so.… Expand

Every single mode has a whole bunch of major issues. Some of the players and coaches don't even look like themselves in the game that is suppose to replicate them. And don't get me started about system EA put in the game that determines the games outcome. Almost all the features in this game is of very poor quality. I wouldn't be surprised if another lawsuit came to EA's doorsteps as a result of all the deception, illegal gambling, false advertisement, etc... Anybody who thinks this is a good game is not being honest in these reviews. What this game is now is no longer a simulation based football game. It is all about microtransactions. This game continues to get worse and worse every single year EA makes this game. Since EA has clearly shown they cannot make a football game to save their life, they should lose the right to make any NFL simulation based football games. If the NFL was smart they would drop EA from the current agreement. They would bring in so much more money with multiple companies making a simulation based football game. Madden 2003 to 2008 had so much more depth by far in franchise mode. And with EA taking out old features and bringing them back years later trying to sell it as new needs to stop as well. Same with the dialing back the graphics to add a few things to make it look like they did some work. It's all just pure laziness and lack of any sort of passion. Clearly the guys making the game have never watched football before. And lets not forget the fact that you still can't challenge anything in the game. That needs to be fixed. You should be able to challenge a multitude of things on a single play depending on what happened during that play. Have a list of things to pick from when challenging the play just like it did in ESPN NFL 2K5. A game way back in 2004 destories Madden 22 in every single way minus graphics. Then let's talk about the blocking. The game doesn't even form a pocket when your passing the ball so you can't read it right, the run blocking logic is broken as all hell. Pulling linemen go nowhere near where they are suppose to go. And there are even a good number of instances where your lineman/lead blocker runs right by the guy he was suppose to block or just runs into him and doesn't block him at all and just runs down field not blocking anybody. The whole game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. You still can't renegotiate contracts, players no longer hold out, mini-camp hasn't been a thing since madden 08 and needs to return for depth and replayability, position battles needs to return for the same reason, refs need to return to the field, penalties need to be fixed to simulate what happens in real life, the horse collar penalty is still not in the game to this day, some of the more severe injuries needs to make a return to the game like concussions, a full coaching staff needs to be added in the game including the position coaches with meaningful impact to player performance during the game and season, remove players warping in the game, add physics, make size meaningful (6'4" 230 pound guy should win jump balls 95% of the time on anybody 5'10" and shorter under 220 and the bigger RBs should be able to plow over smaller defenders. Make size matter instead of only speed), remove players melding through other players bodies, add real models to the sidelines, add normal coaching staff you see on the sidelines in real life in the game on the sidelines, Make chemistry with the team something meaningful. They need to add personality to the players in the game too including their egos like what Antonio Brown and O'Dell Beckham have. Player awareness needs to be an actual thing in terms of where they are on the field, who blitzing, transferring players from zone to zone correctly, zones covering the full field sideline to sideline, knowing what the score is throughout the game, and stuff like that. The commentary crew needs to be more in tune with what's actually happening and you should be able to choose your cast. All of what I have said here is non-existent in the game.     Why even make a new game? Still full of glitches, the story mode is so bad it’s unplayable, and no crossplay… I can’t even play on PS4 with a friend on PS5. I would’ve been better off continuing to play on the horrible Madden21 instead. And that’s saying a lot.

    Constant crashes in franchise mode, several times my offense stays on the field for defense after a touchdown (only seen in pre-season games) a few features in franchise mode are unavailable.. the bugs alone just make this unplayable.

    Franchise mode:
    Despite playing and winning game, upon return I have 0 stat and point for the game and am given an L.
    This 'feature' make the mode unplayable as it unfairly punishes player for no reason.

    The only mode which works is MUT, but even that is compromised by not being able to access EA server services.

    There are improvements and features being promised by the devs which means they intentionally released an incomplete product.

I have encountered so many bugs in this game that it really makes you question if the developers made any attempt at all to listen to the fans like they claimed they had. In franchise mode, my player had 7 interceptions on the season which should have been leading the league, yet on the league leader board it said I had 0. Franchise, and face of the franchise modes, have been abysmal. Instead they put all efforts into promoting MUT and their latest cash grab attempt, the yard. Don't get me wrong, the yard would be a cool idea for some, but why can't they put the effort that they put into creating your character in the yard, to creating a character in the franchise modes? Franchise mode character creation models are still stuck in 2014. It just seems like franchise modes have been forsaken for the sake of MUT and the yard, which is crazy to me because the franchise modes are what gave EA their exclusivity deal with the NFL. They got it with the promise of creating realistic simulations. Now all we get are cash grabs and broken modes. Cannot wait until they lose their exclusivity deal with the NFL because it has lulled them int laziness and a false sense of security.    … Expand

I assumed madden would have put the next gen stat tracker on all version of the game but sadly I was mistaken. The only change I saw from 21 to 22 was the UI and some cyberfaces for certain players.     I am so deeply disappointed. I preordered this game and never felt betrayed and mocked like this time. I gave it the benefit of doubt, but EA cares only about updating the player ratings instead of fixing a totally broken and unplayable game. I really wish there was an option to get a refund, because asking money for this game should be illegal.

    tackling is atrocious and feels worst than a couple of years back. you will attempt wrap tackles on the underneath routes and rbs or wrs will get tackled and stumble forward in a glitched animation gaining upto 13 yards (happened to me oin numerous occassions now) how the hell have EA not ended up in court for this s**t as it is blatant mis-selling. this is NOT a sports simulation this is a spammers delight in online modes and a joke in offline modes.
    I like many want a great NFL game that truly represents the sport not this garbage, i dont care who delivers it but clearly EA are incapable of doing so and lets be honest the only reason they still are is the fact they present the sales figures to the NFL as continuing to grow and naively the NFL take that as success.    … Expand

The minor and incomplete improvements they made to franchise mode do little to mask the atrocious levels of bugs and objectively awful game development that has riddled this franchise, infecting it like a parasite and only growing as time goes on. In addition to failing to address various lingering bugs, like the cpu's supernatural ball awareness and catching ability relative to the user's, a litany of new issues have inflicted this game in new, game-ruining ways. For example, players were unable to enjoy the revamped franchise mode for over a month because they were unable to access the creator files page and download a custom draft class, which to many is a critical component of the game. Additionally, those who wanted to play on the same team as a friend in franchise mode could only use an online franchise in Madden 21, as it would not allow you to play together in an offline franchise. My friend and I assumed this problem would go unfixed in Madden 22, as most bugs do, so we began our first franchise in Madden 22 in an online franchise and spent hours revamping our roster ahead of the start of the season, only to find that in Madden 22, you could NOT play together in an online franchise and could ONLY play together in an offline one. Of all the baffling bugs that afflict this game, this one takes the cake, as they somehow managed to go beyond ignoring the issue and instead made the issue worse in a way that no one could predict and likely wasted hours of time for many players. There are countless other extremely frustrating bugs in every part of this game, but going into more detail would raise my blood pressure to an unsafe level, so I impose you to simply read the other 250+ negative reviews for more specifics. The fact that EA and their game developers look at the product they put out every year and think they did a good job is both horrifying and depressing. Any EA employee that considers themselves to be a professional game developer should be ashamed of themselves, and if I were in their shoes I would genuinely lose the will to live. Andrew Wilson is a thief and a pathetic human being, and this game illustrates that better than anything else. The fact that the NFL, EA, and all associated parties looks at the crime against humanity that is this game and decide to continue to allow EA to maintain the exclusive rights that they have each year makes me lose all faith in our ability to fight corporate greed, as anyone with a clear head would be embarrassed to be associated with this garbage. Every year, I expect to be disappointed by this game, but the new levels of incompetence EA reaches annually continues to baffle me. I just want to be able to create a detailed player, have him go though the combine, and have his ratings be based off of the combine results and go from there. I want to be able to earn “contract money” to spend it on cool things like my own house, or certain football gear, or tattoos.     Sad to see the franchise stoop so low. I’ve played Madden since 1996 and love simulation football games but this game is literally unplayable.
    I could make a long list of its many flaws but that’s a waste of my time and effort.

    It’s time for EA to pass the torch to people who actually care about making a quality football game.

    Madden is a billion dollar franchise that has grown content. Thanks to its exclusivity deals, EA takes zero risks and fumbles each year providing us rehashed versions of previous entries. Madden NFL 22 is no different. Meager improvements are outweighed by series fatigue. Instead of focusing on giving us polished gameplay mechanics and an improved Franchise Mode, EA's focus is divided into unwelcome modes like Face The Franchise and The Yard leading to an overall incomplete and broken experience.
