Buggy as hell, absolutely no depth, the entire marketing for this game is literally just features they’ve removed and put back in (Pro Bowl we all know existed before, the “X-Factors” are just repackaged “weapons”, and QB1 is just an extremely watered down BEGINNING of them giving us Superstar mode back). The gameplay is slightly improved from 19, but(Tl;Dr at the bottom) Where to start. Buggy as hell, absolutely no depth, the entire marketing for this game is literally just features they’ve removed and put back in (Pro Bowl we all know existed before, the “X-Factors” are just repackaged “weapons”, and QB1 is just an extremely watered down BEGINNING of them giving us Superstar mode back). The gameplay is slightly improved from 19, but that’s not impressive whatsoever considering 19 was a step DOWN from 18. Still can just run cross-routes and inside zone the entire game with no problems. This game is terrible. EA does not care about us. A prime example is shown by the fact that on the practice field, it still has a banner that still says “Madden 19” on it, even after a couple patches. On top of this, when called out, they had to ASK what field it is, despite the practice field being the only field in the game that does not have full stands (which you can clearly see). It’s absolutely embarrassing. Stick to the 2k football games, Madden 10-12, or anything from the 360/ps2 days. Absolutely not worth your time or money. Horrific game considering the scale of the company creating it, hardly worth considering a triple-A title. Tl;Dr: Horrific video game, it’s depressing that we still have games from 15+ years ago significantly better than today’s game. Do not buy this game or any Madden until EA gets their **** together. We will not get a better game until people stop feeding into this. You’re better off anyways.… Expand

    The worse Madden to date! EA continues to show they are more focused on soaking people's wallets via microtransactions than they are on creating a good game. Franchise as gotten worse and the game now has more bugs in it than Madden 19. After being promised that Madden would be bug free we found out that's a lie. Stay away from this dumper fire of a game.

    I have played madden for years, I just deleted this game. Uncontrollable gameplay based on animations, every game is up in the air, all the time. The game premeditates kick blocks and punts, forces animations on bad plays, and adding back the pro bowl isn’t an improvement if you can’t play the pro bowl because all the players are wearing the same team helmet. Thanks for the memories from 2004 to 2011, madden. But your lacking and it’s a shame. You used to be so great. Just a damn shame. Same old madden, try again next year.… Expand

    Madden has reached a new low. Unbelievably glitchy, inconsistent, frustrating and sometimes downright baffling gameplay, and a criminal lack of attention to detail. As a dude who grew up loving and playing these games, I can say with 100% certainty that I am never buying another madden until EA actually gives half a s**t about their product.

    Trash... look at its score, the game speaks for itself. Exact same madden as 2019. A couple of updates and a piss poor QB1 : Franchise mode that’s garbage. I’m sick of spending my money on this and realistically if there any other nfl football games out I WOULD NEVER buy another madden again.

I've played Madden since 05 and I knew I've had enough of this game when Joshua Dobbs has a 90% plus completion rate with over 400 yards and 4 TDs against me. If you're like me and want a realistic game with realistic gameplay, values and other variables, this is one ofEA changed the 19 to a 20 and threw this garbage heap out to us. Gameplay scripting, animation glitches, no changes to franchise whatsoever, QB1 mode is horrible, cringey, and lost interest in it in 2 days... all EA cares about is MUT and making money off of that. Unrealistic animations, player awareness (specifically defensive players and o-linemen), atrocious offensive line blocking, defensive zone coverages and tackling animations that make you want to slam your head against the wall. CPU is overpowered and unstoppable in the sim both offensive and defensive wise. CPU defenders will stop on a dime, turn around with their backs to you at first, not even looking at the receiver or ball and pick you off even if you made the right read passing. You're telling me 5 yards of separation on a curl route with a perfectly timed route, throw and read will result in an interception. Mind blowing.… Expand

    Game is riddled with bugs and glitches. Offensive and defensive lines don't interact like they do in the real sport. Zone coverage is broken. No franchise updates. Face of the franchise is completely scripted your choices and outcomes don't matter.

    Yeah, Franchise is still bland, the gameplay sucks, Ultimate Team is still the garbage Pay-To-Win **** Player Models are still the same, shoulder pads are way too big, even if you put them down all the way. And guess what?! They still charge 60 dollars for a patch on their older game. Can't wait until Maximum Football comes out...

There are no physics in this game, players go through each other all of the time. This game relies 100% on animations so how good you are at the game all depends on what random animation the game decides to give you. Unfortunately, Madden 20 doesn't do its self any favors to compensate for the poor gameplay. Franchise mode honestly has NOT been improved in the past decade. In fact, Madden 2005 blows Madden 2020 franchises mode out of the water, if you are interested to see how, go on Youtube and check out "SOFTDRINKSPORTS" channel and he has a fantastic Madden 2005 franchise video. The reason why Madden doesn't care about franchise mode is because they don't want their customers spending time in the mode, they rather you spend your time in a mode called ultimate team where they hope you will spend REAL LIFE MONEY on virtual crap. The game has fallen off of a cliff, if EA/Madden had competition in NFL video games, they would have to throw in the towel like they are currently doing with NBA LIVE, yup EA is done making NBA LIVE games because the game is trash and can't compete with NBA 2k. Inaccurate passes out of nowhere that go straight to a defender, quarterback not letting go of the ball when you throw it so that he gets sacked, touchdowns counting when the player clearly didn’t get into the end zone, touchdowns that should’ve counted not counting, and microtransaction bs.Made an account just to rate this game.     Bad physics all the way around clear money grab with the use of the NFL license. The NFL should take action and let another devolvelper take over. A NFL football game in 2019 should have better a experience. There’s so much potential in this day and age and EA has failed tremendously.

I can't stand Madden anymore I use to love it but the one thing I really enjoyed was franchise mode and it never changes. It's bland and lots of people feel the same. UT is the only thing that ever gets updates or new things added to it and it's disappointing. EA please fix Madden in next year's edition because if you don't I'm will not be buying.… Expand

The micros are the only good thing about the game so don't buy it.     The fact that this game got a 77 from critic reviews is a joke! It shows that EA pays for reviews. This game is supposed to be at its core a football simulator and fails miserably. Game is so bad and I will not be purchasing a madden game as long as EA is the developer

The first time I noticed this happen I won the super bowl completed the entire offseason, preseason and the first game of the regular season where I had a huge game. I come back to madden the next day to find my career is all the way back to the divisional round of the playoffs from last season. This was extremely frustrating. It’s done that multiple times. So for the first time I put madden down for a month and a half. I decide to play it last night and today. At this point in the season I’m 7-0 I see the system says auto saving I allow it to run the process to make sure it’s not user error. I close the application the correct way. Later I come back and here I am week 3 of my season at 3-0 after yet having another big game. It was so frustrating to see that, on top of the superstar abilities not working how they should! I’ve turned the accelerated clock off in the settings just for it to still be on during gameplay. I go to check after the game and as I thought I did turn it off but that did not matter because we were given an incomplete product. I truly believed madden made a strive for the better which is why I even purchased the game this year just to find out I was wrong...same menus, same commentary, same everything. You are better off not buying this game and playing other versions as this is the worst madden I have played. I don’t know how anyone can play this competitively this game is garbage.… Expand

They told me they would have everything fixed in an hour. Guess what it didn’t happen. It’s been over 12 hours since then and the servers are still down. Gameplay is ok. I feel the greatest game after madden 08 is madden 25 and that is 3 times better than madden 20, qb1 mode is straight garbage its just a custom longshot, pro bowl was added and it doesnt even feel like its an improvement. Franchise, same with some stupid gimmicks, honestly just get madden 25 for xboxthis game is better than madden 19 and thats all i can say about this that is positive.     So many problems. There's fun to be had but they can't get simple things right. Every time I try to play a squads game i can only hope that I can get into a game without it being stuck on a loading screen. Gameplay is only a slight improvement.

Second off when I play franchise mode and I'm playing and my internet is fine it'll say " The EA servers can not connect to your franchise " and it happens every single time I play franchise. This game is crap and never will be good. Also when I'm passing to a receiver the defender teleports to the ball and blocks it. It's like the defenderFirst off the game has so many bugs and glitches.     This is the same Madden from 3 years ago with a new make up on the same pig. Are somethings better? Yes, but the majority of the game is basiclly a trading card simulator. Franchise mode has yet to see the depth it had in 2005-2008. Disapointing.

    This game is complete garbage. I got it for Christmas, and now I feel awful for my parents who spent $60 on this trash. The CPU offense is unstoppable on all madden, unless I turn down the sliders, but if I turn them down, then they go three and out on every single drive. Same with the CPU pass coverage. So far the only positive I've gotten from this game is that running the ball is fun, and defending the run is balanced. Superstar X-factors are also cool. However, overall this game is still complete trash and barely playable. I feel so bad for my parents who bought the game for me, but no Madden has ever caused me this much rage through the first day of playing it, and I already have played it for a total of 15 hours. I hate it so much, and I strongly advise against getting it.… Expand

    Animation driven none sense. It doesn't have any dynamic physics to it, the running animations look abysmal. Wrong animations play all the time. Animation chains just aren't a thing anymore. The game has literally lost all of its smoothness. The only reason I didn't give it a 0 is because when you pause the game and have it hold a still frame, it looks nice graphically. But that is it. IAnimation driven none sense. It doesn't have any dynamic physics to it, the running animations look abysmal. Wrong animations play all the time. Animation chains just aren't a thing anymore. The pass rush thing is kinda stupid because by the the you win the QB has already thrown down field. The CPU WR catch every 3rd down pass ( No matter how good the your DBs are.) The balance of teams is just off. You can build the greatest team ever, and endI’ve been playing madden since 93 and it’s just not getting better.     This game is poorly made in every aspect. A lack of depth, playable gameplay, and replay ability makes this game have no fun to be had. The only mode it focuses on is Ultimate Team which is a pay to win and a micro transaction filled mess. This game is very deserving of a score of 0.

They often scale back the quality of their various game modes to enhance microtransactions.     This game is quite literally the worst game I’ve ever played in my entire life. Most of my losses aren’t against my opponent, they’re from EA themselves! Let me explain. The general rule of any game, Madden specifically, is this: If your IQ of football exceeds to that of your opponent, you’ll know from the beginning of the game and you should automatically be put in a position to winThis game is quite literally the worst game I’ve ever played in my entire life. You’ll know which defensive coverages will beat certain offenses, which offensive adjustments will beat certain defenses, and so on; That type of knowledge + some actual skill at the game should give you the win, but what lies between you and victory isn’t your opponents clutch genes, it’s the silly animations that EA has implemented in their game and the literal low IQ of the players on the football field. I cannot express how many yards I’ve given up simply because my defensive back wouldn’t make an effort to extend his arms to reach for the football when it was thrown directly to him. Many of the times, they won’t even jump. There has also been countless times when blockers will not block for a runningback or quarterback and will allow the tackle. Animations are a huge part of why players on the field have no IQ. If the game has already set forth the animation that is supposed to take place, nothing can stop it from progressing. This has caused a glitch in the game where even when the ball has left his hand, the quarterback will get sacked no matter what if the animation for getting a sack has ensued, (the ball will just warp back to his hands and he’ll be sacked). In this football game, your player could have just been tackled, fumbled the ball, the ball would then somehow begin to roll on his back for 30 seconds, he along with the person who tackled him would be stuck in an animation to stand up while 10 other players scramble for the ball, making a dogpile on his back as no one is able to pick the ball up and eventually, the ball is juggled 40 yards down field and your offensive lineman would end up picking the ball up at the 1 yard line. In other times, the ball would be dropped on your player’s head and he’d be cluelessly running in a circle with the ball on his head until another player grabs it or it falls to the ground. This is the silliness of this game. Any effort to win that you could make in this game could go straight out the window at any given moment. What I’ve mentioned in this review doesn’t even scratch the surface of how bad this game is mechanically and logistically. The MUT mode is basically just a gamble-fest for kids and EA loves it. EA is a money-hoarding company who could care less about this franchise, the proof is in the ratings.… Expand

It seems like all the budget goes to Ultimate team, which doesn't make much sense since the game mode is already polished enough.

    Unbelievably unbalanced. The game just isn't worth your time. I've been playing the game since Madden 15 and it has gotten miserably bad. EA's scheme is logical. Give the big names the big abilities and everyone will be excited to use their favorite character. What that leads to is the devs not knowing how to implement these abilities, and a poor execution at fixing more major gameplay flaws.

You play in 2 college games and get drafted into the NFL and the story ends. REALLY EA.

    Ultimate Team. That game mode is why EA sucks. They only care about profits and not gameplay. Why are MUT pack openers and EA in general so brain dead. Speaking of pack openers, half of the madden fan base are stupid kids who waste money on players who are “good”. That’s not even the worst part! A good player can cost up to $100 and your MUT stats reset to the next madden.

EA seems to struggle with balancing difficulty and their solution seems to add a threshold to your players. Speed is limited, movement is limited and all players seems to lack awareness. On the other hand the AI players feel like a superstar all team, movement, speed and blocking is superior to anything you can accomplish and ratings seem to have little to no effect on them. Making the whole experience extremely frustrating.

    Ultimate team is a Pay to Win mode, matchmaking is a nightmare and forces you to either spend a ridiculous amount of time building a team or pay it for in game content. The pack system resemble online gambling and should not be allowed on a game with such a large age range.    … Expand

He takes it back bc somehow Juju can now moss Earl Thomas. I get the ball again and I scramble with Lamar and guess what? Another fumble. He turns it around and scores after James Connor jukes our three linebackers at once. It’s tied now. He makes a 56 yard field goal to win it. I hate Madden so much.    … Expand

    Online play is full of the same formations and plays on both off and def. Not very creative or fun. Safeties stand like they don’t know what they’re doing and be prepared for your receivers to drop the ball 70% of the time.

The defensive backs make spectacular jump ball catches when wide receivers play horrible defense in janky animations. Sometimes the running back just gets hit in the face or stomach unresponsive. This usually happens when the running back is in the best position to make a big play. Or my favorite he just drops the ball. The madden animations are so trash its hard to even be competitive some teams just get better animation plane and simple. The advanced audibles put the players so far out of position if you guess wrong its like your giving away yardage. This game is awful from head to toe. I can not even say it looks good anymore because thats all it has is good visuals of the players physical makeup and uniforms and so on. However overall the game is a tragic disaster with plays that don't work challenge feature and instant replay that doesn't work.… Expand

    I really don't think they extensively test this game anymore. Abilities have made the gameplay so imbalanced and this game has become so animation based its more about knowing how to trigger the right animations rather than making any sort of actual football read.

But then, you get to the NFL, and the mode completely falls off. It goes back to the way career mode has been in the past 5 Maddens, without any attention to detail or depth to be found at all. You just play through games until you decide to retire. Thrilling. Gameplay is also god-awful, with frequent bugs and server malfunctions absolutely ruining any kind of immersion or fun to be found. Animations and poor physics also run rampant during gameplay, making Madden feel like one of the most unrealistic football games ever. I have no idea how this game continues to garner praise from critics, it's terrible. Just terrible.… Expand

    Hadn't played madden in a few years and decided to give it a try because of a few positive reviews.
    What I found were Bugs, canned animations, and a franchise mode that is still behind the previous generations of consoles. Madden is broken and EA has no intention of fixing it. Save your money and buy madden 12 or one of the 2k games instead.

    One of the worst of the Madden franchise installments by far, looking back on the games that went before it, how many of the features the community has been asking for have been implemented? Don't invest your money into a company that treats it's consumer base like cattle and until future Madden on PS5 prove they're listening to us, don't give in to the hype.

Franchise is horrible, no coaching carousels which is present in Nba2k series and MLB THE SHOW (idk about other games), commentary is very repetitive and boring, with the other sports games surpassing madden easily in this category. Franchise still has no career stats tracker showing teams, which is unacceptable in my opinion. While I enjoy online heavy modes in games, MUT is an awful mode meant to milk fans. MUT is a basically a pay-to-win card trading game with RESETS every release, which makes this mode simply cash grab. If your cards stayed with you, maybe MUT would be decent, but that fact alone ruins MUT. FOTF is still glorified connected franchise, with slight improvements, but still no where near as in depth as Road To The Show or Nba2k. KO and The Yard are nice additons and decent side modes, but the bad gameplay makes nether mode worth playing. These two modes are simply in the game to give an appearance of change. Madden 06-12, was more in depth than this game is, and this game is released as the last current-gen madden before next-gen. Madden 12 was released during 360/ps3 days. This game is really a sad story of how what was once a household name for football and a must have game in the 2000's has gone to a dumpster fire. EA doesn't care about this game or the fans, but us, the longtime fans continue to criticize in the hopes of reliving the glory days of madden. EA has abandoned the community that gave rise to a golden age 2005-2009 for a community of youth and causal sports fans who have yet to realize what playing Madden 2006 on ps2 was like. There was once a day where you could create whatever team you wished for, built a team off of realistic gameplay and good trade logic, and when bored, mini camp mode existed for both player progression and for fun. The days of being good at football are long-gone, with the days of cheese and overly gimmicky and poorly tuned gameplay.    … Expand

    Complete trash. Came back to the franchise after 14 years off and it’s gotten worse. Bring back ESPN 2K series. What a shame that a game that’s 15 years older has better physics than the sorry excuse of a simulation football game madden 20 is.

    MUT
    I have tried playing this and it could be a really fun mode, but EA makes it a cash grab. To have an elite team, you need to spend money. If you do that at all which I don’t recommend, please don’t spend that much. It could be very addictive, especially if you know someone with gambling addiction, because the concept is to use real money to buy packs, which might not give you a good player. This mode is basically borderline gambling.

    Face of the Franchise: I was very excited when this mode was brought back into Madden but I’m very disappointed. You can only be a QB, you play 2 games in college, and then it’s back to the simple, boring franchise mode. Hopefully they can improve on this mode in the future.

    Classic Franchise
    If you mainly play franchise don’t buy this game. Lacks a lot of depth, you can’t really do anything fun, just like it’s been since Madden 13. It is literally the same exact thing as it has been but with the Pro Bowl, something video games in the 2000’s could do.

    Superstar KO
    This is actually a fun mode. It has an arcade like feel that football gamers have been craving for years. My only problem is that there are more issues with the core game that need a lot of work.    … Expand

    -The receiver catch rate is atrocious on All-Madden, which is the only mode realistic enough to play - it’s even worse when you have a created QB and you can’t control the receivers at all so you just have to pray that they don’t bobble it or fumble it
    -Speaking of receivers, their first defense against a contested catch is to volleyball the ball up in the air so one of the 4 DBs surrounding him can get a gift-wrapped pick - this happens maybe once a week in the NFL, it can happen several times per game in Madden 20.
    -The amount of fumbles, picks, and sacks in this game are laughable - it feels like the game has played the “Fumbleitis” card from back in the Madden 01 era when cheat cards existed
    - Defensive pass rushers > elite pass blockers all day- yes, you will be sacked several times a game because the OL will let the DE through uncontested - your QBs X-Factor ability to dodge incoming DB blitzes has never worked either -Your DBs will blow coverage on almost every long conversion attempt by your opponent’s offense - the only way to avoid this is to User Lurk with a defender, which ironically still leaves huge holes in pass coverage
    -The computer opponent will suddenly get a huge momentum shift in the second half when they are losing and go into God mode, I’m assuming so the game stays close - trash QBs will have a perfect passer rating in the second half -You’ll be tasked to put up 400+ passing yards as a game goal against an elite secondary, resulting in you only being able to reach all of your weekly goals only a couple of times a season
    -QB accuracy is a dumpster fire when there is any pressure at all
    -Most games you have to take what the defense gives you, no matter how much you study defense and make pre snap adjustments

    I could go on but you get the picture. In an attempt to make Madden 20 fresh and new, EA once again gave us another football game riddled with frustrating glitches, unrealistic gameplay due to an overpowered computer defense and the worlds worst offense, and the recycled MUT online mode that isn’t worth playing unless you want to spend thousands of real dollars and use exploitative game tactics to win.

    After playing a couple of long franchises and several created player iterations, I took the game out of my console and threw it in the trash where it belongs.    … Expand

    Madden NFL 20 is still one of the best videogames if you want to simulate any sport but it's very clear that it needs more: more graphics, more gameplay changes, more news in its modes... X-Factor is a good new, but still insufficient to sense that gameplay is different that last year's edition.

    Madden NFL 20 takes a step in the right direction and I really enjoyed the X-Factor additions to the series. While I still think some form of competition would force EA to make more drastic changes, I’m not optimistic with any developers taking a spin with the football genre (maybe the XFL?). If you haven’t caught the pigskin for a few seasons, Madden NFL 20 is the right route to run for this year. With the new consoles coming (most likely) next holiday, I’m looking forward to seeing what EA builds upon from Madden NFL 20 and brings over to next gen. For now I’ll enjoy taking the Broncos to the Super Bowl, while beating up the cover pretty boy, Mahomes (not bitter at all).
