    Negatives
    - Only real game play difference seems to be the WR vs DB dynamic which turns competitive games into each team taking turns throwing lobs to their best WR.
    - Still too many cheese "money plays" that are impossible to stop regardless of defense called
    - Connected franchise continues to lack the spark of other sports games' career modes
    - AI logic still missing simple football concepts e.g. Receivers often will be wide open in a zone, but instead of "sitting down" as real WR are taught, they continue to run around the field, leading to poor throws
    - Momentum on passes towards the sidelines still carries the receiver out of bounds even if he catches it with five yards of space between him and the sideline
    - Same recycled commentary. Wouldn't it be better to hire two actors to get a more natural, varied commentary rather than pay Simms and Nantz for the same tired lines?

    Overall
Madden continues to be a fun letdown every year. As the only game in town, there is no pressure to fix issues so if you're a huge fan like me, you're stuck with hoping EA decides to make the obvious fixes every year instead of throwing in another useless mechanic that unbalances the game. I'll buy it every year and enjoy it, but it is frustrating to see seemingly simple problems go unfixed for years at a time.

started with Tecmo bowl and now were here with madden 16. I have played and owned every year just about and to me i think its the best Madden to date. Huge improvements from 15 with new defensive and offensive mechanics to work with. It feels real and plays real.

Ok so let me get this straight, One receiver makes one awesome play now the entire league can make super spectacular catches???
It really gets annoying when you're trying to play defense, get to 3rd and long, then here comes super speed and super catching ability out of no where from mediocre receivers! it happens every game! i feel like the defense has gotten more slower and unresponsive

I do like how the game looks and sounds but so far thats about it! please make it a lil more believable, I like seeing spectacular catches but lets tone it down! and lets let the corner backs be able to actually make a play on the ball, not just tipping it up in the air. I'm giving it a 6 bcus I am a madden fan, but if they're gonna make this into the throw bombs all day game why bother playing seriously, I would have hated if I spent 99 bucks like some ppl did.

Ray Lewis who had an intro in Madden 13 went to the Superbowl and last year with the Seahawks who went to the Superbowl).

Modes wise, I am a huge CFM guy and was pleased with the new UI and commissioner features. Although there are a few things missing to make the mode great, CFM fans will be satisfied with the mode. The new mode “Draft Champions” is awesome for a casual Madden player. You get to draft 15 rounds and battle it out either online or with the CPU.

WR/DB interactions has FINALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY made it into Madden. Word of advice, don’t think that you will intercept every pass or catch every aggressive deep ball you throw because you will be sadly mistaken and disappointed.

Overall, if you haven’t played Madden in a while or you’ve decided to hang up your sticks, give Madden NFL 16 a try.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Absolute garbage. That pretty much sums up this game.

Here are the Pros: the graphics are stunning. The soundtrack is varied, yet can wear on you pretty fast.

Cons: Too many to list. I'll ty to list a few here.
    1. The new WR/DB mechanic means that your WR will catch the ball about 90% of the time provided you use one of the catch types (aggressive, RAC, Possession)
    2. The AI will find a way to score no matter what. I was up by 21 points going into the fourth quarter against the AI on All-Pro. I thought I had the game won. Nope - the AI threw deep routes and connected every single time. My DB's were either caught way out of position or the AI receiver made the catch then broke the tackle. My DL suddenly was getting tossed around like a bunch of rag dolls. When I did get the ball back I wasn't able to move downfield at all. My OL missed blocks, my WR's dropped wide open passes. Since the OL missed blocks my RB had nowhere to run.

Here's Stafford's stat line from two different games: 211 yards 1TD, 10-19, 11.1ypa, 36longest pass, 52% completion rate. That was from an All-pro game that I lost by 3 points.

Here's Stafford's stat line on PRO level after the latest update: 405 yards, 3 TD's, 17-18, 22.5ypa, 52longest pass, 94% completion rate. Now mind you I dropped down a level just to test out this garbage pile of a game and was absolutely shredded by the same team. My DB's were beat on EVERY single play. I lost that game 38-33. How is it that I can come within 3 points on All-Pro mode and hold Stafford t0 around 200 yards, yet I drop down a level, play the same game using the same team and get ripped apart?

    3. The menus are total garbage. Why do I have to jump through three different menus just to complete a trade? If you want to upgrade your coach you have to jump through two menus.

    4. Load times are long. When you start the game you'll be waiting at least 3 minutes (depending on your internet speed) while the game downloads roster updates, community play recommendations, play calling data and probably several other things I'm forgetting.

    5. Everyone keeps talking about 'drive goals'. However, I have not seen this feature once on the PS4. I play franchise mode for the most part, so either that was left off the PS4 version or it's not in franchise mode.

    6. When you first load the game you're forced to play pivotal moments of Superbowl 50 between the Cardinals and the Steelers. This would have been ok had EA decided to make it a tutorial. However, it is nothing of the sort. It's unneeded and unwanted.

All in all this game is total garbage. I can not recommend the game if you're a football fan. You'll find it frustrating and will most likely be trading it in at your local GameStop for a better game.

In my opinion this game is awful in some areas. For one the ai is always going to make amazing plays and the one handed catches are ridiculous. Honestly the game looks exactly like 15 and it seems glitchy at times. If there was another option out there i would never purchase another madden title. Bottom line this is a big letdown to a lifetime football lover.

    Cons
The gimmick catching that has been added makes it so any scrub can now throw it like a skilled player without the need to read the defense and in fact the defense is almost useless anymore and is just there to slow down the pinball scoring. Seriously any skill you had in past maddens on D doesnt mean anything. When a 64 overall receiver can aggressive catch (i.e face catch) on triple coverage consisting of 2 85 ovr and a 91 ovr then you know you been had. The game is full of bugs often with your defense breaking huddle and one of the defenders making a run right to the offense to get a encroachment penalty. This has happened to me 2 or 3 times in a row more then a few games and has resulted in a free 4th down conversion several times. It seems whenever I go into a cover 3 the corner on the right side will go all the way to the left side so that when the ball is snapped he has to book it all thew way across the field to cover his man which results in giving up tons of yards. Seriously how is this even a issue at this point ea? Ive played madden since I was 10 years old and I am 32 now and this is possibly the worst madden I have ever played in that it not only is full of bugs but actually encourages cheating play abuse. So if you are a play abuser with no skill you will probably enjoy this game but if you are a skilled player in all previous maddens then please just save your money for other games. I so wish I did especially since I got the 75.00 ultimate edition

So I am not sure if I am playing the same game as the other people on this site, but this game is pretty bad. So if you want to see the ego stroke for EA, fine. If you want to hear actual reason not to buy this game, here it is my take.

You cannot skip cut scenes, which prolongs gameplay. Long load screens... Very unrealistic, the new WR/CB system makes virtually every throw catchable, despite the coverage. If you throw deep to your number one WR, he will catch the ball in double coverage. EVERY TIME. (This glitch has been semi-repaired. Your WR will still catch it, meaning he will get both hands on the ball. However, the ball will be "popped out" and often times the ball is sent floating into the air for 2 secs.)

When you kick a field goal, the kick glitch will apply every third kick. ( This glitch has been fixed, although still may happen rarely) When your kicker makes contact with the ball, the ball will fly straight to the sidelines. Terrible menu's: The franchise mode menu's got an overhaul, and it can very complicated. If you are an owner, be prepared to go through three menu's to make a trade. If you are playing "My player" and locked into the QB position on ALL-MADDEN, be prepared for lots...and lots... and lots... of wide open drops by your WR's. If the play is simply thrown to a wide open WR over the middle, the ball is often dropped. However if your WR is covered by 3 men deep, no worries, the ball will be caught....

Same applies to defensive play. If your DB or Safety is in prime position to make a play on a deep ball, your DB will allow the WR to catch the ball. However, if your DB is two steps behind the WR on a short or intermediate route, he will do a cartwheel block on the pass.

If you are playing My Player with a lock on the QB position, your offensive line will fail to block for a whole second before releasing the DT. However, if you are not playing My Player, this will not apply to you as much, so have fun throwing for 8 touchdowns. :)

Now for online play, if you are facing a opponent who continually throws the ball to the slot WR on streak, the only play that will stop him will be COVER 4... that's right. The soft spot is in front of the free safety, above the linebackers. Man coverage, Cover 2, and Cover 3 will not work. You will need to drop back 4 players to stop that one man. (This glitch has been semi-repaired as well. Man coverage will put a stop to this, but the patch now effects the run game.)

The run game online is a pretty simple glitch to stop. If your opponent does a HB dive or pitch, he will initially run straight then bounce out to the outside. Your LB's and CB's will over pursue and immediately run too deep behind the line. This will allow your opponent to run five yards backwards, while bouncing to the outside, and then turn up field for a very unreasonable gain in yardage. Your defensive players will not stay disciplined in their positions, and will not be able to take the appropriate pursuit angles. Same thing applies to kickoff's. Run straight and to the short side of the field, then run backwards and to the long side of the field, and I guarantee you will return a kickoff or two. You're welcome in advance. So, that will be helpful to some.

On a positive note, the team building aspect is interesting. You will have goals to accomplish on each drive that benefit yourself, and your team. The patches will only apply to online franchise gameplay, and not to your offline franchise. Be prepared.

The drills are a major waste of time, and entirely too long. In what you could learn in 3 plays, the game makes you attempt the plays 10 to 20 times, so that you really learn what you are doing. These act as mini games to unlock Ultimate Team cards, which are useless if you do not enjoy ultimate team.

The gameplay, tackling system, and running are basically the same. The hitstick will still cause a fumble EVERY time the running back runs up the middle (this glitch has been semi-repaired), and running is still often stopped at the line despite your opponents playcall. Bubble screens still do not work to outside WR's. End around plays still do not work to outside WR's. PA passes on 3rd down often are for a major loss, and take too long to develop.

The EA competitive engine is still there. If you are beating an opponent badly, the game will give the opponent an advantage by adjusting the game sliders. This allows the opponent to come back and keep the game competitive. This aspect should've been removed in Madden 25, but is still there today. Really frustrating when your opponent is mediocre, but still is hanging in there for no reason. Anyway, that's all I feel like typing, I hope I can at least give some realistic expectations for potential buyers.

EA did a great job with reworking the passing game. It feels more in depth with wideouts actually coming back to the ball and fighting the defensive backs for position. Draft Champions is a nice twist on the MUT concept. I personally don't care for MUT but enjoyed the drafting and setup of being able to play with some better cards right away rather than "grind" for hours or paying extra cash to get better cards.

Each year of the PS4 / XB1 era, Madden has continuously improved in many areas, but still lacks in the additions on the CFM side; which keeps it from reaching a perfect score. The area they have best excelled in is gameplay, and it has come a LONG way since it's current gen debut.

The great part of the gameplay comes with a new wrinkle of the WR/DB interactions. It feels like there is a true jostling between the two players with true results. Not only do you get true results, but the animations and look and feel are fresh with every pass attempt. Speaking of the pass attempts, you can do a lot with QB to get it to the WR in the best possible way from holding down the button for a bullet pass, double tapping the button for a touch pass, or tapping the button once for a lob. You can modify using L1 or LB for a high pass and L2 or LT for a low pass, and once you get the hang of these mechanics, you can start doing them without thinking about it when the situation arises.

While it is disappointing that CFM is pretty much unchanged, and still isn't as engaging online as the Online Dynasty was in NCAA Football. There are still some great additions, including a long time commish wishlist item, choosing the winner for simulated games. I also really like the dynamic drive goals. Much like the dynamic goals in NBA 2K's MyPlayer mode, it gives a level of immersion and changes it up for you instead of just sticking to your same ol' gameplan. It makes you change things up, but really doesn't penalize you if you choose not to accept the mission. I also like the running tally of game, season, and career goals for the players showing at the bottom after a play as well. Those are some welcome tweaks.

The biggest new mode of Madden 16 is Draft Champions, and it is fun as hell. First you choose your coach that will give you style boost for one offensive and one defensive group, then you draft 15 players to mold your team. You'll be shown three players and you have to choose one. The great thing about this is when you highlight the player, it also highlights your current depth chart below so you don't draft two studs at the same position. That is very slick. I could have done without Adam Schefter's commentary after picks though. The players that come up will be a balance between gold and elite Ultimate Team players with the 15th and final round drafting a legend. You'll then try to win three games to be the Draft Champion either solo or online with friends. I think it's a great way to play Madden for some competition with friends on a random night.

Speaking of Ultimate Team, it is back with a very sharp new logo and a bunch of new content as well. There are well over 150 solo challenges to do in the new Journey; which are full of scenarios and not just full games to beat. Not only is it something new to try to beat with your Ultimate Team, but it is a great way to get your team started as well because each challenge gives you coins and sometimes packs to help build your team without having to break the bank early on buying packs.

And finally, I'm not going to give any spoilers, but the opening playable scene is AMAZING and props to those who had a hand in creating it.

Overall, Madden 16 is VERY close to achieving their ultimate goals, and if they work on Connected Franchise next year with what the community wants to see, they will reach those goals.

While Madden 16's presentation, graphics, and MUT have not changed at all from last year's game, the new passing mechanics and pass defense has improved greatly. Additionally, Draft Champions is a surprisingly fun mode. While I wasn't up for buying Madden this year, after playing it, it's almost worth the $60 price tag.

The new Draft Champions is amazing , thats all I can say about this mode. I am truly addicted to it , you can play this mode to and also have at least one legend each draft. I have been playing it and it also helps with my MUT team as far as being able to use guys for FREE and determine if I like how they perform on the field, not to mention you get rewards to help you in MUT as well. Its a great and addicting FREE mode that I can't get enough of.

In MUT there are more solos and challenges you can play , more content as well. I am not totally won over with MUT as far as payouts , odds and how the leaderboard is still done by coins and not wins or a points setup but its still a great mode that has more to offer this year and I will have fun playing. While its not setup exactly how i'd prefer I think overall it has improved which tells me there are going in the right direction.

Overall , the gameplay is much smoother and improved , the addition of draft champions is alone a game in itself that could keep me busy for months , MUT has improved and the new interactions between the DB's and WR's are a welcome addition as well, when a game moves forward I am always happy.

Amazing catches, defensive punchouts, tipped balls for interceptions, vicious hits while the WR is in the air brings an element to the passing game that was long overdue. It's harder to user defense as I feel momentum plays an important role in how your guys moves around the field.

With all that said I'm drawn to Draft Champions, the new mode that brings out the fantasy football player in everyone as you draft for 15 rounds improving your base team. The choices get harder as the rounds increase and the last round contains legend players like Jason Taylor, Ray Lewis, Joe Horn, LT, and many more. Then you take that team and play head 2 head with an opponent. If you lose you have to re-draft and start the process all over again.

CFM this year received some upgrades as well like a new scouting system and the introduction of the Combine. The new CFM UI layout looks amazing and it allows you to manage your team much easier. With the addition of the player cards you can put a player on the trading block, re-sign him, trade him, upgrade him, and see his ratings from one central location which makes it much easier, especially since I spend about 70% of the time managing my team. There are a few CFM bugs that need to be worked out with the new drive goals but with that said the additions look good.

I'm not a big MUT guy so I really cant expand too much on that.

Bottom line if you liked Madden 15 you'll love Madden 16 and will notice right away once it's in your hands it's not the same game with a roster update.

Let me just begin by saying that without the new mechanics and addition of Draft Champions mode, the score would likely be a 6 or 7. But the slightly improved AI interactions (such as you actually have to know your reads on run plays to have a solid run game), the new depth at playing the ball or receiver (that you can choose to use or not), and continued work on momentum of players forcing you to read and react more realistically, make this game so much closer to the simulation experience I have been wanting since 2K left the picture. Is Madden there yet? No. But it has taken one giant leap forward over the past 2 iterations since their big push to adjust it.

Some same-old-same-old: Most of the experience remains unchanged in terms of what is offered. MUT and CFM are virtually unchanged, as is the stale and often incorrect commentary. I have already experienced a couple people abusing slants. You can stop them, but you will have to find your play(s) and make good pre-play adjustments. I have tried to get the "better" penalties to work in the game, deliberately causing blatant moments of pass interference on both sides of the ball. I haven't gotten called for anything yet.

AI and new run/pass/defending mechanics: This year feels and reacts significantly different. I struggled early with errant throws and getting stuffed on runs with the improved front 7 AI. The trainer was a huge help here. All of what it teaches you for runs is basic football knowledge, but you actually need to care to learn the reads. I spent 4 hours in the trainer going through every session. I am a FAR more effective player this year due to it, which was never the case before.

For the 1st time in years I feel confident blitzing regularly and not needing a nano or overload to get payoff on the gamble with hurries and hits/sacks. Still frustrating is the lack of learning the AI does. As I said before, I have had a couple of guys abuse slants. Without specific set-up, I could not get my cpu controlled LBs or CBs to cover it well, even when having them defend inside, underneath or cheating them inside the route. One player threw slants for an entire quarter before I figured out how to get them to consistently cover it, and then they promptly quit after a couple picks. It shouldn't be that difficult. If they run the SAME PLAY over and over again, the AI should adjust to at least TRY to cover it, but they don't... still.

The New QB/WR/CB Mechanics: Playing the game now can be simple (just throw the ball and let the cpu catch it, but you need to be smart about it), or you can learn the new system and open up deep and satisfying gameplay. Pass-leading is not as reliable as in previous years. I have had Peyton Manning (OC stands for "Orange Crush) throw 5 to 10 yards off numerous times trying to use the old pass-lead ideas.

For the QB, the 2 main things are unchanged: tap for lob, hold for bullet pass. You can now double-tap an icon for a touch pass, hold L2 (on PS4) and press an icon for a low throw, L1 for high, and mix ideas together for special situations.

Receiving now has three options: aggressive catch, run after catch, or possession catch. Once you throw, press and hold the corresponding button to have the receiver go for the ball in the way you wish. Aggressive and run after catches leave you open for big hits, and my receivers have dropped RACs because of defenders being close. Possession catches are great for those moments when you need a first down or a catch near a sideline, causing the receiver to protect themselves from hits or tap the toes when needed. The added depth here with QBs and receivers has made for some incredibly satisfying moments already. But you DON'T NEED TO USE IT!!! It may be slightly less effective than when you take full control. But isn't that how it should be?

CBs and defending passes in general: They have button presses to counter the offense. They can play the ball to knock it away or go for the pick, play the receiver to make sure you get that tackle and (seldom) knock the ball out, or simply swat it away. I have stuffed Megatron and DT, and beat Sherman and Shields... no longer is a deep pass an automatic completion in a good matchup. The way all of these mechanics work together make Madden feel completely different this year.

The new Draft Champions mode has already got me hooked. You do a quick 15 round fantasy draft after deciding what type of team you want to focus on. There are options to be more defense minded or offense minded, and then you can choose personnel that best match that style or whatever else. Then you play a series of games vs. an online opponent, or play games against the cpu. The mode offers great replay value.

Madden NFL 16 is a good step forward for a franchise gone stale. This is DEFINITELY more than a "roster update."

    1. The game has crashed and stuck multiple times where I have to close the application only to open it back up to find out none of my game data was saved

    2. In my career mode when I reached the draft after my first season the game went into a draft simulation mode where I had no control of the game. After closing the game multiple times and trying to return to my franchise it went right back into simulation mode throughout the rounds at an extremely slow pace. I ended up leaving my console on and letting this simulation run for 3+ hours as I didn't want to lose my franchise achievements and progress.

    3. The run game is almost non existent and pass blocking for qb on my career mode is pathetic. In most scenarios you have right around a second to get rid of the ball

    4. The gameplay does have decent fluidity and realistic motions and the soundtrack is awesome. Without these traits I would have given it a solid 2...Overall the game isnt even close to being worth the $

The new mechanics in the receiving is not worth 70+ dollars and draft champions is a good idea but a little more development would have made it somewhat enjoyable to play more than once or twice. If you didn't buy last years edition I might recommend it but if you had the restraint to not buy last years you might as well wait for Madden 17

After reading rave reviews, on how this Madden will be "the one" I was excited to get back into football gaming. Well thats now a 60 dollar joke because Madden feels more like the Mobile app than a console football game.

First thing I want to address is the games pace, or tempo. Are we watching a live broadcast? or are we playing a football game? Its hard to tell and in my opinion and it completely destroys the tempo of the game as a player. The game pace is way too slow, but the quarters are over quickly. If you sustain a 12 play drive chances are you will be into the second quarter before you score, or the other team gets a chance on offense. I know you can adjust the quarter length, but that means you would have to play 9-12 min quarters to simulate realistic stats. In the old game you could have 2-4 drives in a quarter depending how well you played defense, You could produce close to realistic stats within the 5-6 min quarter time.

The different types of throwing is a cool adjustment, but I find having to chose the correct catching style as a receiver repetitive and unnecessary the major of the time. In NCCA you could chose the catch type in the pre play so that all receivers would be going for a secure catch, or a big play catch. I prefer that over the new system. The performance catch is nice in the end zone for when there is a mis match but it gets often abused in unrealistic situations. 3rd and 24, its cool, just use performance catch.

Overall I will probably play this game a lot less because in order for me to really enjoy the game play I have to set the quarter length high, and reserve enough time to play a game in one sitting.

But, the game guides you well throughout various objectives and a fantastic, thorough and rewarding tutorial system that really helped me learn how to play while having fun. There may only be three main modes but they all have a tremendous amount of content but are also well streamlined for the beginner and simple if need be. The career mode for example has a handy "Things To Do" tab that helps you do the necessary things in between games quickly and without tedious navigation. The new Draft Champions mode is a fun way to play and easy to grab a hold of as well. The gameplay itself is solid in my opinion, and pretty realistic as well. There are some issues with the AI, as is to be expected, but notably less than in some competing sports games. I understand if some people feel this game does not meet some standards met by previous installments, but for me, as a beginner, this is a terrific game, and certainly convinces me to shell out some cash for Madden 17 as well. The major upheaval here is the "addition" of receiver buttons, which allow any trained monkey to hold down a selected button that the game tells you, to perform a spectacular catch. You can do the same on the defensive side. No more selecting the DB and undercutting and jumping the receivers route. Nope! just press the button on the screen and spectacular plays ensue. New passing mechanics, new catching mechanics and options, DB/WR interactions, new DB play ball/play receiver mechanics, Organic and gang tackling, QB AI, improved locomotion on the controlled player, ratings being more of a factor, defensive holding and defensive PI. These gameplay additions help Madden 16 to march closer towards to the simulation game I have been waiting for EA Sports to produce. I would also like to add Draft Champions, great mode in my opinion. I don't normally play MUT and DC gives me the ability to play with a fantasy team without any real commitment. At the very most you can play with the same team 4 times, after that it's back to the drawing board. I love suspense factor of always having to build a new team.

Of course there are still things left to do and the game still has a few issues which are listed below.

I would like to see little to no warping and motion shifting into place.
Animation Quality, which the Devs have mentioned themselves. Just want the animations and player movement to look and feel more natural. At times the game still lacks the fluidity that you see in other sports titles.
22 Man Physics, I would like to see the physics run at all times and have an affect on every aspect of the game.
    Physics driven injuries.
Signature Animations and Signature Skills for players. I would start with the biggest stars in the league and build from that.
New Ratings System, I would like to see position specific ratings and more skill based traits.
Jersey pulls and real reach tackles
Outside of that I would just like to see the Devs build on what's already in the game as well. Continue to clean up known issues and build on the foundation you already have set in place.

I am also a big CFM player and I will mention that briefly. I like the new scouting system, dynamic goals, storyline commentary including drive starters, and the addition to free practice. I still think there is so MUCH more that could be done in this area to make the game more immersive. There needs to be more off-field activities such has developing storylines that affect game day, contract disputes, chemistry, performance hits for players not practicing, real life draft board, etc. I could go on for days.

Madden 16 gives me confidence that the Devs want to get Madden to an elite level. I'm already waiting to see what Air Supremacy looks like in it's second year. If the Devs continue on the path they have going on since Madden 25 I think we have a lot to look forward to. The future looks bright.

As well, although the graphics (as usual, its an EA game, like the Michael Bay of video game world) are outstanding except for the animations that dont line up, the camera guys on the sideline cant seem to hold the camera properly, the ball just kind of magically apprears in hands because its close enough, or physics freak out and bodies fly everywere. So far these are the most frustrating pieces ive seen (in no particular order).

1- The menu's take forever to load, and you cant cant skip the ingame feedback even with it turned off which causes you do keep smashing X in frustration after 10 seconds of cinematics between each play.

2- The player physics are absolutely terrible. Im not even sure how to explain...

3- ALL MADDEN difficulty cheats like hell, to the point were you will get 150 passing yards a game and Peyton Manning will manage 53 passing yards a game. Magic interceptions out the ass.

4- No game face, just a few blobs to choose when creating a character. On the other hand EA did not even bother to put much effort into the characters faces this year except for specific ones. Example: look at Philip Rivers face ingame.

5- Its all about MUT, yes everything ingame is trying to push you towards MUT, why? like all other EA sports games its the micro-transaction pay to win, and you will win a card here and there playing ingame, but they really want you to buy those packs.

6- A new mode (draft champions, that lets you win MUT cards) but zero new effort put into franchise except for being able to play draft day the movie and trade up for a pick.

Well i hope you enjoyed my review, and i do love football and madden but like a call of duty game im becoming tired of spending money on things that are copy and paste each year. No reason to buy a $60 roster update. The throwing mechanics i will say feels alot better than in previous madden games, but its nothing really new.

This year's game host new features and old favorites that should appeal to anyone who has been a fan of the Madden Series. I will go over all the different modes you have to play. One of the new features that brings a whole new experience to the game is Be the Playmaker. You now have three different catch options to chose from. They are as follows.

    1. Aggressive catch: This is a high risk/high reward option. Say you are down a score with little time remaining on the clock and need a big play. Using the aggressive catch could provide you the score or yardage needed to win the game. But beware, your receiver has a lower chance of catching the ball. It could however, be just the thing to lead your team to victory. It's all up to you now.

    2. Possession catch: You this when you need a clutch pass to your receiver. You most likely won't get any additional yards after the catch but it comes in handy when you need a big play from your QB and receiver.

    3. RAC Catch: Look to use this play when you need your receiver to make the big play and turn it up the field for more addition yardage after the catch. I would only use this when he's pen because you do have a much bigger chance of throwing an interception id he's cover well.

Another new feature in this year's game is called Draft Champions. I will be honest, when I first heard about this new mode of play, I was not impressed at all. I thought, here we go, another new gimmick I won't be playing. I could have not been more wrong. When I fired up the menu, I saw the Draft Champions mode and said, what the heck, I will give it a try. Now, I'm glad I did. If you are a fan and like playing Fantasy Football as much as I do, this is where you will be spending a lot of your gaming hours in Madden NFL 16. It brings the Fantasy Football aspect to Madden in a way that fun and enjoyable to everyone.

The Gatorade Skills Trainer Mode: This is a great place to brush up on your Madden skills. Whether you are a long time player of the game like myself or just starting out, you can learn the ins and outs of the game and the new features that were added to Madden NFL 16.

The Gauntlet: This mode was first introduced in last year's game. It's basically a series of drills that will help you become a better overall Madden player. It's a great way to try and beat your scores and improve your overall game.

Connected Franchise Mode: A lot of new additions to CFM makes this a more enjoyable experience for guys looking to create and control your favorite NFL Franchise. Everything from a new way to scout your players to giving the Commissioner more options to make your online CFM run a lot smoother than year's past. It's still not perfect by any means but it does show promise for future Madden games.

Online Head to Head: If you enjoy playing your friends, family or just looking to for a game to play, this is the mode for you. See how you stack up against some of the best Madden players in the world by going online.

Ultimate Team Mode: Build your NFL Dream Team in this mode. Long time fans will enjoy yet another Season of MUT in Madden NFL 16. I know a lot of guys will spend a lot of time and effort in creating their Ultimate Team. The more wins you get, the more coins you can earn in order to strengthen your squad.

Practice Mode: Need some extra time with your team to learn harness your Madden skills, then practice mode is for you. Learn your team's playbook backwards and forwards by spending time going over your go to plays. It's time well spent if you are a serious Madden gamer.

Super Bowl 50: It's the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Arizona Cardinals in this fictional Super Bowl 50 matchup. You can replay this opening of Madden NFL 16 as many times as you want. It's a great way to get a taste of the game.

In closing, Madden NFL 16 is just a flat out fun game to play for anyone who has enjoyed previous versions of the Madden series. It's not without is faults however, but has more than enough good traits to keep you coming back for more. This is the game Madden fans have been waiting for. I, for one, am glad Madden Season is finally upon us!

The all new passing mechanics, and WR/DB interactions have elevated this series to the next level. There needs to be some tuning, but the overall feel of these new additions to game play, have made the game come alive like never before.

I'm sure by now you've heard the new mode called, Draft Champions. Let me tell you this game mode is straight fire, and worth the time to play. I know Madden Ultimate Team can be expensive, and once you fall behind those guys who have 99 everything it can be very challenging to compete, well all that is solved in Draft Champions. One it's free to play, and you draft your team through a 15 round drafting system, that allows you to play with current stars, and Legends all in one. You can compete vs the cpu, or online head to head verse others like yourself. With this mode you can't just play it once, and it will become addicting very quickly.

Connected Franchise has taken some steps in the right direction, and you can already see the vision for this mode for many years to come. CFM has had some changes in scouting, and the way you run your draft board in the offseason, and those changes are great little additions to the game.
CFM is on the rise, and I'm really looking forward to what is ahead for this mode.

There are some bugs, that needs addressing, but all in all this game has captured the vision of Ghost of Madden past, and is looking very, very bright for the future.

*Tip* Stay off the triangle button when playing Defense. If you want to get beat deep every time go for the pick every throw, and you will look like a chump, play smart football, and you will win your share of games!

In my personal opinion, the best parts about Madden 16 is the running game and the tackling. The tackling now feels more organic, and fluid. Players rush to the ball carrier and we now see true "gang" tackling. The inclusion of different handoffs has given the running game a new/old feel. I have characterized the running as having an NCAA feel, which means the ball carrier is a step slower behind the line of scrimmage.
Mode wise, I have always been a CFM guy. While there are known bugs (one of the only knocks I have found), CFM is still a mode that is dear to my heart. Draft champions is a new mode in the game that combines the thrill of drafting, and the appeal of MUT. Basically it is just as I stated, you are in a 15 round draft with 3 random MUT cards per draft. From there you have to build a team that is able to compete. You have to strategically pick the right players that will help benefit your coach style. Of course the fastest growing mode is back in the game as well (MUT).

Overall I am a fan of football, and a fan of Madden. This year the two have come together to give you a pretty good product. So let's put the pads on and lace up the cleats, it is MaddenSeason.

The new DB/WR interactions make play calling more important than ever this year. Just like in real life, if you leave a mediocre DB in one on one with a star WR, be prepared for the consequences. I did not see this as being over powered but more right where it should be to compare to the real NFL experience. Gang tackling is in the game this year and adds another level of realism as the defense reacts to the ball carrier.

The new mode Draft Champions brings Fantasy Football into Madden. The mode can be played solo versus the computer or multiplayer vs other competitors. You will go through a 15 round draft to improve off of your base team. The more you play, the more you learn that some Gold players are better for you than some Elite players. You always be able to draft an NFL Legend in the final round of the draft such as Herman Moore, LaDainian Tomlinson, Ray Lewis, John Elway, Jason Taylor, Ty Law, and many more! Wins will be rewarded with content in Madden Ultimate Team. If you lose, you can begin the whole draft process over again. See if you have what it takes to be a Draft Champion.

Madden Ultimate Team has also improved. The Journey is a chain of 100+ games and each one is a game-changing moment from a real NFL game. The Journey starts with Super Bowl XLIX and you are the Seahawks on the Patriots 2-yard line trying to rewrite History. This is just one example of the many you will face on The Journey. With all the programs, new challenges, and new legends - there is no better time to try Madden Ultimate Team.

If you liked Madden 15 than you will love Madden 16. It provides a fantastic experience all around and is not the same game with a roster update

I'd probably rate this as an 8.5 if I could, but thats not an option, so I rounded down. The new role the community members have in game development is definitely noticeable. The game isn't perfect, but they have definitely made serious progress fixing serious issues. For one the CB/WR interactions are lovely, I think the running game has felt nice even though lineman still completely mess up there assignment, but I guess you could say that's realistic. The new passing and catching controls feel nice although the aggressive catch feels overpowered. Being able to have more options when passing the ball is something I have wanted for so long. dropping the ball over a lb and in front of a safety is finally possible.

Now as for online head to head, this game mode is always going to have its hiccups, people find ways to manipulate any game, be it a first person shooter or a sports games. I tend to avoid this mode altogether so if you want an opinion on this mode or MUT you need to ask someone else.

I spend most of my time in head to head with friends or in Online Franchise or CFM or whatever its called nowadays. Haven't had a cahnce to sink into that mode yet, but I loved it in M15, and am excited for the new improvements.

All in all, I'm very excited to really sink my teeth into this game. Like I said before, its not perfect, but it is definitely the best Madden to date, and if you can p[lay with people that don't abuse the issues the game still has, it can be a very enjoyable experience.

A score of six is definitely better than the last Madden games which have ranked near zero for the last eight years. I recommend it because of the sound, graphics, and game atmosphere that is presented in this iteration. The graphics alone are worth the jump to "next gen".

But.................this game still needs more love and polish before it can become a good football game. Starting with animations; it's not fluid enough to make you feel like they're actual players. They still look like lumbering robotrons. The next-gen in this case would be to make the players have more realistic motion. Another thing is realistic crowds. While there are more different types of fans in the stands, when you're blowing a team out, the stands are still packed full cheering away in the waning minutes of the 4th quarter like its the Super Bowl. Plus, there are no cutscenes of fans reacting, no weather conditions, nor any special recognition if your team is playing in the post season. These add up to a very weak season presentation.

Next, Franchise Mode: Franchise mode still sucks because it cares little about the feel and atmosphere of a football season. Commentary in "tweets" is all you get about what is going on in the season. And if you constantly choose alternate uniforms for your team to wear for each game, that's the only "tweeting news" you get for your team. It's stupid. You can't make new players for the draft, and you can't customize uniforms except switch around helmets and jerseys. Customization of players and characters continue to be woeful inadequate as you can only choose from the same damn twelve character models you have to choose from that we've had for the last ten years. Worse, they decided that you'll be tied to either a specific head coach, or just a player, and not the entire aspect of the team for the franchise mode; so it shouldn't be called franchise mode but Coach or Player Mode. Finally, you can't select other teams' games to play them during the season. Your stuck selecting if Home or Away teams win. This is another step back in franchise mode.

Bottom line: Best Madden game since 2005 in the fact it took a huge jump in graphics and sound and game atmosphere, but needs to take the "next-gen" step in animations, bring back customization. They also need to get back to creating a fun and engrossing franchise mode that lets you play the franchise and not just get stuck with one head coach or player. Yes, I got stuck being Jim Caldwell and there was nothing I could do about it. If 2k was allowed to put out their own version of NFL football, I'm sure they still would blow this EA iteration away

My reviews are mainly focused on core gameplay mechanics, so that'll be my focus here. For the longest time, I've been saying that Madden needs a definitive turnkey/pivotal title that'll be the true platform to continuously build the game up from. Madden 16 to me is definitely that benchmark title as the feel of football is true and completely undeniable regarding what's going on here for sure. Let me get into this a bit deeper.

WR/DB Interactions: Out the box, you had a good number of people on the EA access 10 hour trial screaming out how catching was OP (overpowered), and were getting caught over end over end on deep balls in 1 v 1 situations mainly. That's just the issue there though, people needed to learn how to use the new in game mechanics. The days of just pressing Y or Triangle are gone. You must learn to press A or X and play the receiver, spotlight the receiver if your secondary isn't great, assign the extra man or adjust your playcalling to have that safety over top to defend those situations just like they do IN REAL LIFE!! There's only a few DBs/Safeties in the league that are great 1 on 1 defenders, and even they get additional support as they'll get beat too (ex: Patrick Peterson vs Amari Cooper is a great example of this). If there were anything I'd say was an issue with this, it would be the frequency of one handed catches that would need to be toned down a bit. Otherwise, I strongly suggest people get in the skills trainer and practice field and learn how to effectively use the mechanics instead of making the blind complaints because you're not winning like you were used to back then. Times are changing for real now!!!

QB Pass Placement/Inaccuracies/AI: In Madden 15 the pass innacuracies were introduced, but due to community complaints, it was toned down and the "Robo QB" was back in full effect. This year it's back and not going anywhere. In addition to dedicated pass placement mechanics, you have the most control since the PS2 days when it comes to how you want to deliver the ball, high over the shoulder lobs, mid-level passes that'll sail over LBs and in that hole within the zone where only the receiver can get it, or throwing it low and away so the risk of a pick on that curl or comeback route is reduced to nil and would only be a drop or a breakup by defender contact. Now you can clearly see the CPU AI difference between Geno Smith and Tom Brady when it comes to how they are at making reads, accuracy on throws, and how they also deal with defensive pressure when the pocket collapses.

Run Game/Trenches: Regarding the running game this year, the controlled player movement is greatly improved, as the ballcarrier feels much more weighed down and attached to the field. Especially when it comes to making quick cuts, and bursting through holes, even when utilizing skill moves too, the footwork is highly noticeable and the player movement is the best out of ANY football game out in my opinion. When it comes to the run game and reading blocks, you MUST BE PATIENT!! You have to allow the blocks to develop and make the proper reads instead of mashing turbo and getting stuffed prematurely. Speaking on the Trenches the O-Line/D-Line battling is much more balanced and the sack totals aren't nearly where they were in the history of the franchise. Now it's more of a progressive win/loss battle to get into the backfield, unless you have a beast like JJ Watt/Gerald McCoy/Ndamukong Suh on the line you're controlling. Even with that in place, with the CPU QB AI, they don't hold the ball nearly as much as they used to and will already have made their read and threw the ball, or will try to buy time by moving in or rolling out the pocket and throwing the ball away.

Penalties: The final part to discuss here are the penalties, they're FINALLY back and count more than a way of impacting how gameplay outcomes are potentially determined like in years past. Now the sliders determine the frequency of what penalties get called. What I like even more is that when the penalties are called, there are clear animations to show what had happened onfield. Whether it's a holding, PI, facemask or an illegal block in the back, they all have a visual depiction to go along with what penalty took place. They still are lacking every penalty legible for the game at this point, and also a challenge system a la NFL 2K5 where I can choose what I want to challenge regardless of what took place on the field instead of the game dictating what can or can't be challenged. Once again, this is a legit foundation to build upward from.

In closing, these gameplay refinements make this the most realistic playing Madden title to date, and these past 3 games (Madden 13 - 15) were the building blocks that helped 16 set itself up to truly be great going forward. With some tuning/patching within these core gameplay aspects. Madden 16 can be a truly official title to set the tone of true football authenticity.

Ok... So this year I decided to play the game a little longer before giving my review. Sometimes I feel like we may rush a review without actually having enough time hands on with the title.

Madden 16 definitely comes to us revamped and improved from last year. With the new catching animations and features, offensive playmakers are not able to make a play on the ball in clutch moments. Now there have been numerous cases of users complaining about the newest features, but did you take time out of your Madden Season to learn the controls? Did you run through the tutorials?

The tutorials are long and very boring at times. But your learning the ins and outs of the game and how it works. They are definitely there to help you. So if you're not using the tools that are being supplied, then yes you may not be as successful as you'd like to be.

DB/WR interactions has finally took lift off. You will now notice more hand-chucking, bumping and in air collisions than before. It really looks like they took a lot of time to get these animations correct.

The running game seems slow paced at times but more realistic. Though I have noticed that you may sometimes get sucked into a slow moving animation (running) when chasing down a player. I say that b/c I have noticed a safety getting out ran but then a linebacker chasing down the receiver. Hopefully it's an easy "patch" update.

Throwing seems improved and more realistic as well. Though I cannot honestly say, the QB inaccuracies seem a little high. Or maybe that's just when I'm playing (Raiders).

As for the newest game mode, Draft Champions. It's a lot of fun! I really enjoy drafting my team and building them through a draft. There is a lot of cards out there and I rarely see the same cards coming my way during the draft process. One downfall to the mode that I do not care for, is that I am forced to play all 4 games consecutively without being able to "pause" or go play another mode. I understand the games are short and a lot of people may quit, but I feel locked in and have no choices. At least give me the opportunity to play when I'm ready to play.

Another cool feature about draft champions, is it gives you MUT (Ultimate Team) rewards. Though I have yet to see a really cool reward. Needless to say, I have yet to dive into MUT completely. I read some reviews about high contract usage for "No Money Spent Teams", so I decided to not go that route. Not yet anyway.

Head to Head seemed a little shaky at first. I kept getting matched with people who were pulling the plug. But since then, most of my games have matched up pretty well. Honestly.. it's probably been one of the best Madden's to play H2H on in a very long time.

My biggest complaint, would be: Still no online communities. This was a feature that had in the game a few years ago but then removed it. I enjoy playing with my friends and I understand the leaderboards situation and take on it. But what baffles me is that we have "lobbies" and it's a feature that is rarely used. Online communities was so much more useful and actually used by gamers. So they could play and interact with like minded individuals and friends.

Overall I would give Madden a 84 this year. Obviously they are moving in the right direction.

With Madden NFL 16, the on-field product has continued evolution and the overall mode offerings have become more focused, but the cornerstone Connected Franchise Mode continues to get short shrift and deserves more attention than it has been given.

On the field, Madden NFL 16 offers a few new tools to separate itself from the past few titles. After a defensive-focused effort last year, this year's game offers new control modifiers for quarterbacks to have more control over passing. Using L1/LB or L2/LT and the passing icon, or tapping a passing icon twice, has the result of a high pass, low pass, or touch pass respectively. In addition to greater depth to pass controls, interactions between receivers and defenders has been given significant attention; receivers can now use X/A, Square/X, or Triangle/Y to trigger a possession, run after catch, or aggressive catch depending on the route and situation. Defenders can also choose to play the ball or play the receiver in coverage. The result is a system where the passing game feels more in user control on both sides of the ball than any Madden NFL game in recent memory. Now there is legitimate strategy to be found when deciding what catch is right for a situation, or deciding whether the risk of playing the ball on defense and going for the reward of an interception is the right move when covering a game-changing receiver. It takes getting used to in terms of re-learning how to trigger catches and defensive attempts, but the result is a much more strategic set of interactions.

The running game has gotten much less press, but it has seen nice improvements as well with regard to contextual awareness for the ballcarrier; in Madden NFL 16, the runner is much more aware of where teammates are and has a nice contextual spin move to clear through traffic. Defenders also benefit by a re-tooled gang tackling system, especially in the run game, and it can be great to watch multiple defenders converge on the ballcarrier to take them down and clean up the tackle. There are still some issues with regard to players tangling up together in the post-play, but in all it's significantly toned down from the early days of Madden NFL's physics system.

While the game's graphics continue to improve in subtle ways, the broadcast presentation still needs some work to catch up to the rest of the package. Photographers and cameramen now dress appropriately for the games and have specific bib colors to denote their task, but aside from the addition of some love-or-hate stat bubbles after plays, the majority of the broadcast remains all too similar to fans buying the game each year. Commentary doesn't seem to repeat as much as in recent years, but this may be due as much to another year of new lines being recorded as anything else.

Connected Franchise Mode offers improvements like the ability to sim specific results in an online league (a long-requested tool) as well as streamlined and more logical college scouting, but it also introduces a Dynamic Drive Goal feature which is nice in theory but has some struggles in practice. For example, if you turn the ball over on offense and the booth overturns the call and gives you the ball back, you will fail your active drive goal on offense and be stuck with a defensive goal (since the game thinks you're on defense) and you'll obviously be failing that goal too since you can't achieve a defensive result with the ball. Most frustrating from a broadcast perspective is that these drive goals show up in an ESPN BottomLine style display, just reinforcing that years removed from NCAA Football's demise, we're still left without studio updates or any greater league context in Madden NFL 16's CFM. Even the CFM menu hides league news and notes more than recent years. It's frustrating to see CFM continue to go without features enjoyed years ago in the college game.

Madden NFL 16 does offer a new mode in Draft Champions, which is essentially a "free-to-play" version of the popular Madden Ultimate Team where players draft a team of stars over 15 rounds to create a team for four games. For those not wanting to invest significant time or money into MUT, this is a nice middle ground. Players can go against the CPU or peers for these games.

MUT, Skills Trainer, and The Gauntlet are all still present, with similar offerings as would be expected from recent Madden history.

Madden NFL 16 sees solid improvement on the field in meaningful ways, but CFM still remains weaker than other modes in the game, especially with regard to unfortunate bugs plaguing the mode at release. For Madden NFL 17 to work towards instant classic status, intentional gameplay refinement and CFM "catch-up" should be prioritized.

The number of simulation aspects missing from the game are anger-inducing considering Tiburon's mantra of developing the "most realistic simulation football game ever". But when you read the Twitter tweets of WWE auditioner Rex "Come at me bro!" Dickson, Clint Oldenburg and other Tiburon devs, you begin to realize why this game is missing so many things; it's because they don't care.

When you peruse some of Oldenburg's tweets, you'll see him tell fans that something we see on Sunday is not in the game because they are "only concerned with simulation football". However, he doesn't seem to have a grasp on the realization that his comment is a contradictory statement since you can't claim to care only about simulation football when you at the same time disregard aspects of what makes a video game reflect what we see on Sunday's. 2K didn't develop their football games that way, they simply put their hands in the dirt and put these things in the game without complaining and without contradictory doublespeak, but anyone who knows anything about game development knows that the big divide between EA Tiburon and 2K Sports is that 2K is and always has been more talented and more driven as a development team than EA Tiburon and the final products have reflected that reality.

If you read my review of Madden NFL 15, then I guess what you can take from this is that the game is on a cycle of taking 1 step forward and two steps back, and the team developing it is largely oblivious to it or are really good actors. Either way, Madden NFL 16 is one of the least technologically advanced games in sports gaming, running on clunker code that dates back to the late PS2 era with animations that are fit for the 1st gen PS2 era, with AI best suited to the PS1 era. Madden is going nowhere. It's still a fun game, but it's neither technically sound, fundamentally based, or refined the way a game that's been in continuous development since the 80's SHOULD be. What Madden is instead, is a spectacle of what a culture of complacency, lack of competition, and general development ineptitude produces.

Expect more of the same in Madden NFL 17.

The game is an huge amount of fun in the fantasy draft mode because your teams are closely matched. The ultimate team mode would be amazing if it were not such a blatant cash grab by EA. Also be prepared for overly long frequent load times.

EA Tiburon has made a huge step in the right direction with madden 16. The honeymoon stage is over for me and the game is still refreshing. The enhanced graphics, gameplay, animations, user-friendly UI, and revamped player progression have made for a better overall experience. For example, Shopmaster argues that 16 "is much more than a roster update, the gameplay and the WR/DB interactions make this feel awesome and finally a deep ball down the field is filled with unpredictable results." The new passing game mechanics and WR/DB interaction is indeed great but I love the renewed emphasis on CFM even more. The previous iterations of the Madden franchise have obviously been MUT driven. While MUT is still king for the people over their at EA Tiburon, they listened to the hardcore fans and have put a sizable effort into revitalizing CFM. XP has been toned down significantly. Users won't be able to stat whore scrubs into Hall of Fame type players in two seasons anymore. Guys who like to trade superstars to horde a number of picks will find that tradition a little more complicated. You maybe able to stack multiple first round picks but the development window will be shorter for leagues that end after a few seasons. "Team building" is more dynamic, fluid and realistic. No more trading A.P., Luck, Watt, or Cam for a scrub 78 ovr player that you can upgrade to 99 in two seasons. Those decisions have consequences (which I love). Expand

Another year and another madden is here. In this review I am going to focus only on my impressions about the game regarding gameplay and cfm. I do not play any of the other modes and hence have no opinion about them.

Gameplay: The gameplay this year definitely looks like a step in the right direction. One of the big issues I had with madden 15 was the defensive warping. The defenders seemed as if they are 100 times smarter, faster and more agile. On top of that all defenders will play the ball very aggressively, abandon their coverage and go after the ball, while at the same time the offensive players will just continue running their routes without paying attention to the swarming defenders. Well this year so far I have noticed that the interactions between offensive and defensive players are a lot better.

Moreover, on all madden difficulty you can complete 20 yard passes. In contrast, last year nothing past 7-8 yards was working unless you lob it deep. The defenders were so fast that no matter where they were on the field they can always catch up to the ball on any pass that was more than 15 yards away.

The tackling animations have been improved as well. They look a lot more organic and bring a lot more fun when playing.

Overall it seems that the game has a lot more realism to it and feels more organic with respect to football fundamentals and physics.

CFM: CFM has seen quite a few changes from last year. I don’t have time to touch on all of them and will just focus on what I like the most. I like the new scouting engine. Unlocking only the 3 best grades as well as the true talent level of the player combined with grades from a scouting combine bring a great deal of realism to the entire scouting process and quite frankly I find it very enjoyable. The menus seems a lot easier to navigate now and the new player cards look very intuitive.

No comes my biggest disappointment for this years game so far. The glitches that were reported and later confirmed by EA have really bothered me and quite frankly have made cfm unplayable. Hopefully, EA can fix those and in a timely manner.

I am giving a score of 7 because of the major glitches to cfm mode. If it were not for those I would probably give it 8 or 8.5 due to the vast improvements I have seen this year.

To start, I haven't played a Madden game since 2005. I was a huge fan back in the days but then got sick of it. But finally decided to get back in. The core of the game i was used to is still there and its still fun, but I have too many major problems with it to give it a good score.

First gripe, unskippable cut scenes. I hate watching games. I prefer playing them. Second, the animation is horrible. The rag doll physics make it look like rather than players tackling each other, they're falling against each other. Third, the controls don't feel as responsive as the once were. EA has decided to sacrifice responsive controls for more realistic looking animations.

Overall, I'm not liking the experience so far. I probably won't be purchasing another Madden game for a while after this.

Cpu QB AI should be smarter still. When you fall in snow, you leave a big indentation, not just their feet. Could've done more. The coach should call plays threw QB's mic in helmet, which would come through controller speaker.Turn it on or off.

I just have to say that the critics reviewing games don't spend enough time with them. It's like a car getting an initial quality award but costs the most down the road. I had mixed hopes for this game, and after seeing it on sale during Christmas, I gave in. I have put probably 20 hours into playing this and these are the issues I have.

User controlled receiver gets melded to the CB and the CB drags him across the field. Unacceptable.

Running back has clear lane up the middle but takes off to the left or right and runs straight into the defense. Unacceptable.

I drop my user controlled receiver back for a screen pass and he stares at the sidelines. Unacceptable.

User controlled player catches ball five yards in bounds and the controls are so sluggish that he continues to run straight and goes out of bounds. Unacceptable.

Franchise team goes 9-7 and I get awarded the legacy award for going undefeated. Unacceptable.

Popup shows up on screen during game saying back on track. completed three passes in a row. It's was three straight run plays. Unacceptable.

Owner franchise. Build new stadium. Do you get to pick the stadium or it's features like you used to? No, of course you don't, because this is an EA game and they take stuff out as time goes on and gives the people who only want online more junk. The rest of us can apparently suck it. Unacceptable.

Players constantly trip over and get tangled up together. Unacceptable.

A player on my team got a touch down and got high fives by the other team. What? Unacceptable.

These are just some of the too numerous to keep track of glitches, misses, lack of wanting to put out a good game directives from EA. I shouldn't be surprised. This is every game they put out. The last time i really enjoyed a good football game was ESPN NFL 2k5. That was the year before slEAzy got a monopoly on NFL licensed games. That was the last time there was a good NFL game. It's high time for this monopoly to end. The user reviews for this game are still averaging a little high, but that is because there are a lot of fan boys out there that refuse to admit how awful some things are. Oh, don't mention these issues on the EA forums. They will ban you in less than ten hours.

More of the same from EA. Not much has changed with this game in the last decade. Same rehashed garbage year after year. Shoddy route-running AI, poor blocking, and constant forced replays and close up views of players dancing and celebrating that it forces you to watch.

I don't know anymore, what is madden about, Why does it exist? Honestly the game is a mess, keep in mind the only other Madden game i have played was Madden 08 and Madden 13. And I can tell you my favorite mode is the mode in which you are the nfl player, I play online alot but the fact is most of the 500+ hours I spent in game were fun. But in truth after madden 16 I just got sick of it, it may be long overdue but the games mechanics are so broken that it basically is unplayable to play it as a legit sim of football. I like realism, so I made a qb and set the game time per quarter to 15 minutes, I play and manage to get atleast 700 yards per game and 80000 yards per year. That is something that I shouldn't get. Now alright, that makes me legendary qb right? HA! I have 234 legacy points after twenty years in the league, Im a failure despite being a 20 time probowler 18 time MVP and 60 time NPOW. Da Faq? The sheer volume of things to do in this game is huge. Draft Champions is easy to pick up and play for a quick game, Franchise is streamlined and offers multiple options and paths to take your team to the Super Bowl, even the training mode and Gauntlet are fun.
This is my first foray into Ultimate Team and I've got to say I'm loving it! BUT it did take me a while to grasp how it works. This is my only gripe with this iteration of Madden, for newcomers MUT can be quite intimidating especially because there is very little within the game to guide new players. It took a fair bit of trial and error, and ALOT of perseverance to understand how MUT works. From the little things like: "your team WILL suck at first" to the major things "WTF? Does it mean by Contracts Expiring?" - All it needed was a little explanation, omitting explanations was a huge oversight.
I was put off MUT at first because it looked like an overcomplicated mode but once you put the time in there's a hell of a lot to get stuck into.
The game as a whole has 100s of hours of A+ Football action and I'm wrapped I picked it up. Sure there are some insanely unrealistic on-field catches and other anomalies but it doesn't take away from how complete a game this is.

Always good fun. Sadly rubbing banding very obvious in this game as well. I guess all sports games have it? Be the best QB all through the season to then suddenly throw 5 INT's per game. Really? Especially when the nearest opponent is 30 feet away when your WR is about to make the catch. Overall enjoyable.

Madden 17 is a cool game, I think. I love the part when the aliens come down and grab Gronk and make him their intergalactic champion. That doesn't avtually happen, but think about how cool that would be! I rate this game 12 stars out of 14 loaves of bread

Not an american football fan, so just looking at this as a game. It is entirely pointless, one of the worst things i've ever played.
You don't actually influence the game, have fun sitting back and watching things happen without you. Watch tons of unskippable cutscense that are supposed to make it feel like you're watching a real game. Surprised EA hasn't put Commercial breaks in there.
