The UI, first off, is absolutely abysmal. To go back to the top menu, the current menu must be closed by using the circle button, and then to navigate THAT menu it's only for the left and right d-pads. Additionally, the pause menu is equally as trash; to change an option, lets say sensitivity, pressing X will send the cursor to the bottom-most option and it forces you to go up to change your desired settings.

Controls feel very clunky. The game feels as if the control stick sensitivity option doesn't affect the movement very much. The PC version is better, having played it a while back.

The free-to-play model forces the developers to implement microtransactions in order to keep the game alive. They say this game is not pay-to-win, as Spacebux is optional and its used to buy cosmetics. Unless it's a bug, could you please explain why there are Spacebux prices on the Weaponcrafting menus?

Also, why is everything in the game so weak? The beginner rifle, at max, does at least 6 damage per shot. The word 'weak' doesn't do it justice in this case. The enemy bots that players go up against with seems to have much better weaponry, despite being at almost the same level.

Loadout is an okay game despite it flaws. Hey, at least it's playable right?

It's TF2. If you've played and enjoyed a Team Fortress title, you'll feel right at home here. The only difference is if you really want to maintain a competitive edge, you'll have to pay for it. This is mostly a gib-fest, probably meant for young teens that focus less on solid mechanics and more on how many chunks they make when they shoot you with a rocket launcher. For all that, it isn't terrible, some of the animations are funny as hell and using the taunts to accelerate captures provides some classic group taunting moments. That's about it though, honestly. If you're a die hard shooter fan you may find yourself right at home. If you're looking for the finesse of a high-class shooter however, look elsewhere. Taper your expectations for Loadout and you may be pleasantly surprised...I wasn't, but that's just one man's opinion. 6/10, one extra point for the "free-to-play" option. Expand

Multiple game modes with their own twist. Bots that can fill in for the missing / AFK player that actually compete and the simple fun factor make this a must. AND its free.

There is always two questions on free to play: Can you just pay to win? No. You are limited to weapons at your level. To upgrade your equipment at higher levels it becomes ridiculous to even pay for upgrades to your weapons because prices continue to rise as you level up. Can you play without paying anything? Technically you can just play with the gun types you get on random drops for but most people they want to play with specific types of guns. I wound up just shelling out $5 for the gun type I wanted and then used other drops to upgrade my existing weapon parts. I haven't gotten to where I really need to rely on drops to continue playing with a weapon how I like it but I am not sure how much more I need to play. The modes and maps are limited and adding arbitrary objectives to the standard types doesn't make it any more fun. Losing because you got randomly matched with people who are severely under powered can be frustrating if you really feel you to need progress but it really just will unlock more of the same. Well worth the time to play it and I felt I got a lot of value out of my $5.

UPDATE: A recent patch lets you use the currency that you mostly accrue without money to buy the gun components you want. There is really no reason to use real money anymore. Not sure how they are going to make money but it is a lot of fun.

The best f2p game on ps4 without a doubt. Its alomst as good as any AAA game on the market. The customisation, gameplay, and the recent 60fps update makes this a complete third person shooter.

A f2p game remind me of overwatch , and the steam version of it. The game is just almost unplayable, the hud is horrible, and it is clearly a p2w game, just as almost every f2p game out there.

This game is just plain fun. Its not a COD or a Battlefield or a Halo but this game is refreshing in a shooting genre that is just plain bland. COD sucks, Battlefield is a much better game. Loadout is a game you can sit back and just shoot and shoot. Download this over Warframe.

It might be F2P, but you can still get good weapons with in-game currency (blutes). Some of the items can only be bought with Spacebux, hence real cash, but these are mainly cosmetic or humorous items. Most useful items (including XP boosts) can also be bought with blutes, which are easy to earn. You don't earn many Spacebux, but you can get enough through challenges to buy some items. The fusion feature of the inventory allows you to increase the rarity of weapon parts and other equipment while simultaneously making use of out leveled items instead of having to discard them.

My main criticism would be that the challenges needed to acquire Spacebux and additional loot crates are poorly assigned to the appropriate match scenario. In order to check off an accomplishment and claim the prize, you need to complete the stated goal and your team has to win the match - doing both is sometimes impossible depending on the match scenario. If your goal is to get three head shots, this is nearly impossible if everyone is running all over the place just trying to kill each other instead of focusing on attacking a fixed target. There are also some matches where you have to claim dropped "blutonium" from slain enemies but two of the four opposing team members are of a type that doesn't drop blutonium while all four of your team members do. Because you can't choose the match type for the challenges (the arena matches allow voting), sometimes you just have to keep quitting the match and restarting until it gives you a workable scenario.

There is also an annoying glitch that sometimes leads to your AI teammates getting stuck at the spawn point. This is, of course, terrible when you realize that you're trying to take on an already numerically superior enemy (e.g. 10 enemy AI characters against your team of 4) all by yourself. Thankfully, this is rare and generally seems to happen only when more than one of your teammates dies at about the same time and they both/all try to spawn simultaneously.

I'm giving it a slightly higher score because the experience only costs you as much as you're willing to pay. Some of the taunts are crude, but others are hilarious - like some of the pop culture dances that take you back to your youth. I'm at level 15 (out of 20) and I've earned 2250 Spacebux but haven't used any yet. I'll probably cough up $4.99 for Spacebux once I've reached the end and it will still feel like I'm stealing the game. Considering there are terrible digital only games that go for $20 (or more) this is truly a bargain. So give it a try and if you enjoy it as much as me, show the devs some love.

On one side, the free to play mechanics ultimately get into the inevitable grinding, which could bother some. On the other hand, gameplay can be loads of fun, and the irony is sincere.

Loadout isn’t a bad game; there just isn’t much to it. If you’re worried about how a PC game translates to the PS4 controller, you’ll be happy to hear there are minimal issues. The control isn’t perfect, though, and despite the better part distribution system, there isn’t much to talk about aside from weapon crafting.

Loadout isn’t some new breed of free-to-play, but it does a very entertaining job of balancing what you can play with when you can pay. Being a low level isn’t painfully boring, and gaining experience or good weapons doesn’t require real money.
