Outstanding game that shows what's possible in this medium. Great art and music, incredible writing including mood-setting and cliffhangers for a game. I hope more studios will adopt a similar approach (episodic story centric games). Dialog sometimes a bit emo but highly appropriate given who the characters are. The noteworthy aspect of the writing is the fearlessness with which normally taboo subjects are integrated (not as a big "look at us being rebels" signal, but as natural aspects of things that happen in life is strange).

'Life Is Strange' is the best-written computer game I've ever come across. Game play and cinematics are a bit ho-hum, but the writing pays for all. You can't find a better use for $20!

Never in my 24 years of gaming has a game affected me on this level. I am absolutely flabbergasted and emotionally drained from this game. Only a monster could make it through this game with a dry eye. I bought this on sale on the PSN store, and after I beat it I instantly went and bought the physical limited edition. No regrets.

Life is Strange propels the medium of story-telling in games to new heights. Games like this mark the beginning of a new era. With the shift to open-world elements in games(I'm looking at you Metal Gear Solid 5 ) I'm happy to see that there is still a big focus on engaging story-telling and cinematics.

Life is Strange is an utterly fantastic experience. It is like the best interactive parts of Mass Effect or The Witcher 3. It is like a Telltale game if Telltale games looked like modern games. It is like an interactive video that really is an interactive video. The story is immersive, the characters salient, and mechanics brilliant. I highly recommend this game.

It is like an interactive video that really is an interactive video. The story is immersive, the characters salient, and mechanics brilliant. I highly recommend this game.

The human time machine mechanic in Life is Strange is sort of an anti-game mechanic. Every important decision can be rewound and repeated with a different outcome as many times as you like before moving onto the next encounter. I cycled through all the options on several occasions, having all the time in the world to make a decision. This is a sharp contrast to Telltale games where your decision making can be mooted by missing a quick time event. (We've all lost good people because we didn't see the notification to press X.) Lost is Strange may seem to have low stakes game play, but they it doesn't. Each decision has consequences later in a masterfully written story.

As mentioned above, plenty of other games have presented great stories that can be shaped by players. Most of these were action games where you would stop for conversation after killing dozens of enemies. A game like Life is Strange is what happens when you take mass murder out of the equation. In a further anathema to modern gaming, the story is a about a mopey teenage girl and her girl friends in a mysterious coastal town backed by a soft indie soundtrack. Maybe Life is Strange works so well because it is so fresh and different. I certainly want to see more games like it.

In hindsight I would use this game as prove that videogames can be art and tell compelling stories. I heard from a lot of people that this was an amazing game and the reviews seem to prove this. So when the complete game was available I bought it. I should warn you that this game style like the Telltale games (Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, Batman etc.) are not for everyone. Some criticize this for being an interactive movie instead of a videogames and it is not a wrong argument per se. However this is preferences and not a weakness of the game. I truly enjoyed the game like many others and we all want a continuation of this games story. The story follows Maxine Caulfield (Just called Max) who returned to her former hometown the small city Arcadia Bay to study photography at the Blackwell Academy. Her family moved to another town 5 years ago and she left a lot of people behind including her best friend Chloe Price. Arcadia Bay has become infamous as student Rachel Amber vanished without trace six months ago which is still a big topic. Max is drawn into the events of the game and the past also caught up to her. Small spoiler warning but it is in the games description even on Metacritic: Max discovers that she can rewind time (in a small amount) with all advantages like retrying and remembering what happened. However it is limited and she cant rewind for long periods. I think it is not even enough to win a lottery but enough for Las Vegas and still immensely useful. End of small spoilers. The story works really well. I was fully invested into the outcomes, characters and progress. It creates immersion and emotions which is the key to good story telling. Also the twists were excellent. Like in other games in this genre your decisions influence the story to some extend. There are different results or outcomes depending what you do, say or decide. It is more than in the Telltale Games as there are some bigger differences. The characters are the next strength of the game. Max is one of my favorite video game characters. She is relatable, smart and kindhearted. Her struggles and journey are amazing. This is also true for Chloe Price who is amazing too. She is equally good, relatable but a bit hardened by life. These two together are amazing and have a great chemistry. The support characters are good too. Kate Marsh and Victoria Chase are well written and genuine. They have depth and you see what they are made of. Also valid for Warren Graham, Nathan Prescot, Joyce Price, David Madsen and Mark Jefferson. The writers and voice actors deliver a truly good result. I saw no missteps and flaws as the experience was always enjoyable, immersive and intense at the right moments. Gameplay wise it is a bit like an interactive movie. There are some riddles or puzzles. I like how they integrated Max skills into this. However it is not a puzzle game and the core aspects are about decisions and creating your path through the story. There will be hard choices and decisions. Like I said there are often multiple outcomes for the events and past decisions can bite you in the back. Graphically I love the art style. The characters look amazing and all emotions are well transferred. I would buy an art book. Overall this was a positive surprise and I want to see more from the character. The game left an impact and I hope Max and Chloe’s story will be continued. An easy recommendation if you like this genre or good characters in an interesting mystery. Expand

First of all the less interesting part, the graphics, they are quite good but similar to those of a PS3 game, even though they improve a little in the last chapters.
But the story is absolutely captivating and the plot depends highly on your choices during the whole game.
It's not just the story of a shy teenager who's attending a new school trying to make new friendships, there is a big mystery to solve about a disappeared girl and other important decisions to make, as the protagonist finds out to have a strong power: she can rewind time. You can choose when rewinding time, changing your decisions, your actions, your words. It makes the game more interesting and in the end there are just two crucial choices to take which really makes you feel bad. I appreciate the realistic dialogues, situations and troubles linked to her supernatural power.
I like the story because since the beginning it makes you feel anxious and you want always to know how it will end. I absolutely love also the theme songs during the game, especially in the chapters finals.
The gameplay, being an interactive drama, is quite basic, you just have to walk and press buttons when required. You definitely put yourself in the main character's shoes and this is what I loved the most in this amazing game, I think it is a masterpiece, unluckily one of the most undervalued games.

This game was a complete surprise for me, it’s not that I was not expecting a good game but I really enjoyed it in the end.

First thing it’s worth commenting is that I think this isn’t a game for everybody. If you like fast paced games, with a lot of action or where you play a very active role then this isn’t gonna be your thing. This game presents a slow paced gameplay where you basically walk around, talk to people and look at objects; it creates tension and interest through the story, not the gameplay. Said that, it is very similar, in terms of how to play it, to heavy rain, until dawn etc., so if you liked those, chances are you will like this one. I always describe these games as point a click adventures, but without the puzzling element the classic adventures used to have, it is a lot simpler (sometimes even too easy) to progress here. How long to beat? Probably around 15h, assuming you like to explore the surroundings, a bit more, maybe, if you want to find the collectibles.

Other things, the graphic style is a bit weird sometimes but I’ve come to like it (take a look at some videos and pics), I don’t think it ruins the experience or anything so they’re good enough. The OST is fantastic, the music goes incredibly well with the game, they’ve done a great work here. Finally and most importantly, the story is great although I must say it might feel a bit slow. The first two episodes are a bit of an introduction and then real interesting stuff starts to happen from middle/ending of episode 3 onwards. This means, it may feel a bit too slow at the beginning (that’s what I felt), but if you hang in there until the end you’ll realise the story is actually quite well done. It left me with a feeling of “wow, this was interesting” at the end. The characters are likeable in my opinion, although this is highly subjective and the story I think is highly focused on the feelings of both the main character and one of her friends, which you may or may not like, but don’t get me wrong, still a thrilling story behind all this, it is not all cheesy.

Anyway, I quite like games that make me feel something in the end, after playing games for more than 20 years I find most of them don’t make me feel anything special at the end; well…this one did. If you’re looking for something a bit fresh with a good story and don’t mind about slow paced mechanics, give it a try. If you’re the kind of person that only that likes fast paced games where you have to take a very active role bla bla bla you might want to spend your money elsewhere.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Life is Strange is a fabulous game. I, personally, love it. The main plot is truly beautiful in the sense that is perfectly and very descriptively goes through each and every bit of story, in a totally non-confusing way. it tells a great story of a girl named Max who has just moved back home. Now it seems a little crazy, and the time traveling foundation can seem shaky and does appear completely fictional. However the way Max uses her ability to time travel and the way she spends her time and uses the information she has is unbelievably human. It is realistic and believable and it is beautiful. It makes me cry when I think of the plot solely because the story is so pure and shows some (somewhat) real responses to (somewhat) real human issues. It is relatable and just a great game in general. the graphics and art style are great and it is just fabulous overall. 100% recommended!! Expand
