It offers up some family friendly chuckles, and will keep you occupied for a while. If you're under the age of 10 or a very casual gamer you'll definitely enjoy it. However, it does serve up plenty of annoyance. The vehicle handling is absolute garbage, an open world style game should have free camera control, but this does not, the fighting is way over simplified and leaves you feeling bored. The lack of options to adjust game play is frustrating. Multi-player is aggravating as when one person orders a vehicle it makes the other player freeze, and restarting challenges will make the other players vehicle disappear if they are in one. All unlockable characters (not just disguises) are voiced by Chase, spouting out the same 5 phrases which was disappointing, repetitive, and really just lazy on the part of the developers. After you beat the story there's little to no replay value as its just a drawn out grind to get arbitrary abilities, items, or achievements. On the plus side it is very fun for small children and easy enough for a 5 year old to beat. The paint gun was a terrible idea, and the fireman's water gun is a nightmare to use. If you're a gamer playing this with your kid, prepare to feel frustrated. There are definately better Lego games out there, and if you're looking for something styled like this the Lego superhero games are far better. With only a few classes it gets old fast once you realize you're hunting to unlock characters that have no special talents and all voiced the same. Mindless entertainment? Yes. But this game doesn't stand up against other Lego games. If you're a Lego fan you'll probably enjoy it, otherwise I'd say rent, don't buy. Expand

Extremely poor frame rate ruins the games, beware!

This game looked great until the extremely poor frame rate and jitter ruins the experience in free roam.
This is on Switch but apparently also is experienced by other users on PS4 and Xbox.
Nintendo credited me the cost, which is he right thing to do. I have notified WB but awaiting follow up.

Overall a fun kids version of GTA.

Before I start this review, It’s important to note that I don’t like Lego games
I’m probably gonna complain about things you love
But LEGO City Undercover is easily my favorite one to date
The charm and humor here is the best I’ve seen in a Lego game, which is surprising considering it features a unique cast of characters..
A few parodies thrown in there…
But there wasn’t 1 character I met throughout the journey that didn’t make me smile in one way or another…
I was in love with the first half of this 12 hour campaign…
You’re driving around the Lego city to each destination, stopping along your way to collect new costumes, or cars from doing time trials if you’d like… destroying and rebuilding during the campaign to complete tasks and find keys…
And slowly you’re introduced to different undercover identities…
This is where the games potential starts to shine, but it’s also where the game starts to fall apart…
There are 15 chapters in total here and the missions in these chapters are mixed between in city with car chases and climbing buildings and then there’s the sections of the game that are inside of buildings…
And this is where the game comes to a crawl.. Especially later on in the world...
For starters... this is where you have to deal with the slow and boring combat system of reversing, mashing the o button and throwing handcuffs on enemies..
It’s a little fun for a while, but gets old pretty fast…
At first I don’t mind these more puzzle platformer sections of the game...
They’re a break from the fairly small Lego world...
This stops that world from getting boring…
And it extends playtime as you’re switching through the different identities to throw different switches and break different items…
I’d get to some annoying spots where the game forces you to go collect a ridiculous amount of blocks to complete a super build, which isn’t too bad since there are special blocks usually pretty close and you can use your communicator to see them in the world so you have an idea of where to go..
But by time you unlock the color gun. .all of it becomes just so overwhelming…
The game doesn’t reserve 2 different characters for these levels...
    which would’ve been much better
Instead they want to throw them all in... making you constantly switch through characters to make little progress only to have to switch back to another and another and another
The fire fighter and the color gun just became obnoxious…
The fire extinguisher hardly works and the paint sections are just time wasters…
Where sometimes it isn’t even about changing the color of a switch,, its painting a wall so you can climb it…
The pacing just becomes awful in the final stretches and it ruins the charm and feel of the game completely…
The puzzly grind is sort of what Lego games are about..
    so Lego fans rejoice…
But in general, while this game genuinely surprised me during the first 7 chapters and had me smiling nonstop, I felt it just started wasting my time towards the end just because…
Don’t let the final bits scare you away though..
LEGO City Undercover is a great game full of laughs and fun even if like me, you hate Lego games.

Warner brothers and Traveller’s Tales presents Lego City Undercover.

Story: Lego City Undercover is an action adventure game where you take on the role of a police officer by the name of Chase Mccain, making his return to Lego City after being away for two years. Upon his return, he learns that the evilest criminal in Lego City (Rex Fury) has escaped from prison and has been infesting the city with crime. So now it is up to Chase Mccain and the Lego City Police to stop all the crime in Lego City, and take down Rex Fury. You begin by just doing work with the Lego City Police, but further down the line you go undercover to work for the cities most notorious crime bosses in order to get closer to take down Rex Fury.

Gameplay: Lego City UnderCover is an open world, action-adventure game. Think of it as Grand Theft Auto for kids and lego form, with less serious missions and cheesy one-liners and wonderful references to classic spy and cop shows like Starsky and Hutch, Mission Impossible 2 and Shaft. You have your main missions which are a lot of fun to do they are your typical puzzle solving, collecting as seen in previous Lego games, using your cop skills to take down enemy foes with kung fu and other hand to hand combat tactics, as well as free running as you traverse along the rooftops of Lego City. As you progress through the story you will unlock more outfits so you can complete special actions during main missions or are out traveling in Lego City. The main story in Lego City Undercover is one thing but there is more than enough to satisfy you in the side content section, from building super builds like call in points for vehicles, blowing up silver statues, collecting pigs and watering flowers around the city. Its all around a great experience when it comes to the gameplay.

Conclusion: Lego City Undercover delivers when it comes to quirkiness with its jokes and one-liners, the references to the cop and spy movies is a nice touch for someone my age, because I get them. The gameplay is some of the most fun I have had in a while when it comes to the open world genre I am glad to see it does not take itself to seriously. The only thing that really was not enjoyable about the game was a number of collectibles, I mean you don’t really need 450 gold bricks to collect that is a bit too much. None the less the game is still very much enjoyable.

    Score 8.5/10
Good job Warner Brothers and Traveller’s Tales

I'm long time fan of Lego inspired video games, and found Lego City Undercover to be one of the best Lego games to date. The city is large, and real fun to explore. And as the story unfolds, and you get new abilities, it just becomes more fun to explore for all the hidden extras.
Missions are super fun too, with hilarious movie references all around the place.

Looks cute too, although they could've polished it bit more for PS4Pro.
Only real moan is the lack of GTA style radio stations. As it is, the game music kicks in only occasionally, meaning you do most of your freeroaming in silence. Atmospheric sounds and good sounds effects make up for it, but still...

It's certainly an awesome game, full of good humor, and a great gameplay. I just don't recommend it for closed mind people, since it is totally different from the other Lego Games. I give it a 9/10, because the loading take way too long and the vehicle gameplay is kinda boring.

The levels on this Lego game were easy to figure out the next step. We did not have to resort to YouTube at any point in the levels to figure out what the next step was, which we had to do in other Lego Games.

The story is a little weak and not as interesting as other Lego games. We found our selves more interested in just completing the game than what was actually happening in the story.
