NOT TYLER, CHRIS!!!!--- As an avid Kingdom Hearts player since the beginning I feel that this game doesn't live up to the decade and a half wait between main-line games. However, the single most infuriating aspect of the game is the overuse of cut-scenes. Cut-scenes almost feel as if they are being used as a crutch in this game to extend an otherwise short game, and the frequency of said cut-scenes destroys any natural flow that the game has. As someone who still to this day plays the originals continually I expected more, a lot more, from this game. Expand

after all these years waiting and what do we get treated with? terrible combat, under 10 worlds, pointless game mechanics and a SL of damn cut scenes. it took me literally under a week to finish this that's how short it is! i'll run down why exactly this game fails hard

the battles: pretty much button mash and wait for your power moves than use them that's it.

pointless game mechanics: don't even bother cooking you don't or will ever need the extra bonuses it gives you.

if you ever expect to craft the best equips you won't be able to because the game never gives you the gems you need until later when you won't need the gear.

lame winnie the turd level: don't even know why this is in the game if i wanted to play annoying puzzle games i'll download them on my phone!

AP is practically given to you: in kh2 you had to strategize what you wanted to spend your AP on which abilities welp not in this you get so much AP and gear that triples it for you that you can have every single ability you want..

the level design: every level is pretty much the story run until enemies appear , kill them than continue while finding chests along the way. there is hardly any exploration whatsoever. and every level is so damn small you'll just breeze right through them.

ship building pointless now: what i loved in kh2 was how you can design your own ship in this there are actual hubs you can fly through and you get to choose what shoot em up battles you want to do...but they even managed to stuff that up you see there are these crystals and if you get them all they unlock uber OP ships where how many parts, weapons and other stuff you can have on them don't matter.

cooking is pointless: you can collect ingredients and do stupid mini games to unlock meals you can eat that give you boosts to your stats...but you'll never need them the game throws so many powerups and abilities at you during battle you pretty much just sit there and push X!

    what i liked
    ==========
    - graphics look great. runs perfect on the PRO
    - toy story level was well designed (pretty much the only decent world in the whole game)
    - was fun exploring the sea in potc level too bad there wasn't more of it.
    - the space hub was a nice touch but felt empty still

    what i hated
    ===========
    - the attractions make it too easy
    - too many team moves that cheese battles
    - your keyblade special moves are too OP
    - the frozen level and it''s lame singing (yes it's in there) thankfully you can skip cut scenes though
    - the sled part in the frozen level
    - the pirate race
    - winnie the turd level and it's lame AF puzzles
    - cooking...waste of time
    - battles pretty much button mash X
    - too many mini game levels
    - too many cut scsnes
    - you never get the gems you need at the right time making crafting annoying.

Disappointing to say the least. It's hard to to know where to begin with this game and where it falls short, because there are so many issues sprinkled throughout the experience.

Story: Everyone knows by now that the story is a mess, and the game doesn't do a good job of getting the player up to speed with everything that's happened. One of the biggest issues with the story is the pacing. The main plot of the battle between the cast and the nebulous organization 13 is often pushed to the backburner so the disney world antics can take center stage. I've seen fanboys defend this with "well that's exactly what happened in the other kh games" and some people actually consider that a counter argument, nuff said. It's also hard to take the plot seriously when the tone is all over the place. One second your having wacky adventures in a disney world that's pointless to the conclusion of the story and the next a weeb character is feeding you exposition on kingdom hearts lore. The story is stuck in this disappointing rhythm where fans of the serious will be bored of everything they already know being explained again, and newcomers being bombarded with exposition they don't understand. Also the final fantasy characters are gone now. I find it odd that a series that began as a crossover between disney and final fantasy is so willing to discard the things that put the series in the spotlight.

Combat: A mixed bag of repetitive actions is how I would describe it. Reaction commands are gone and have been replaced by "attractions" which are shallow reincarnations of disney theme park rides. While these moves may be fun and beautiful the first few times they get repetitive very quickly. Limit commands are there but only function as one off attacks. Drive forms and growth abilities are gone and have been replaced by form changes ala birth by sleep' charge meter. Form changes depend on what keyblade you're using and it's cool that you can now equip 3 and switch between them at any point. The form changes give you access to different movesets and are very flashy and pleasing to the eye. The combat in kh3 generally goes like this; Mash x, use form change or shotlock, mash x, press triangle. This would be fine if this was a ps2 game but this is 2019, the mechanics just don't improve upon anything that was established in 2.

Environments: The worlds are just as shallow as they always have been except even more linear, and there is only 8 this time around(some from previous games). They're usually empty and devoid of interesting content aside from the minigames(which are bad in their own right). Exploration has been trimmed down as well, remember gaining new abilities in 2 and being able to reach new areas/chests with said abilities? Gone. There are some interesting ways you get around though, "free flow" allows you to run on walls and move though the areas with relative ease.

Gummy ship: An improvement. You now can move freely between the worlds instead of the linear rail shooting stages of the previous entries. The editor is still there, I never touched it but Im glad that it's still a feature.

In conclusion kh3 is probably one of my most heartbreaking disappointments in the medium of entertainment that is video games. That may sound overly dramatic but Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 are games that me and many others hold close to our hearts as unforgettable experiences and 3 simply does not measure up to that in any form.

combat has some good flow, but the amount of gimmics added to the game, makes it more a show to watch, rather than a good game to play.

the gummiship exploration seems to have been improved, and made overall better, which is enjoyable, so at least that is good about it.

the story is growing ever more complex than before, but the game seems to be designed for children, or at least young boys (which is true i guess), but the complexity of the story might not quite be for that audience, so there is a few issues here, but its hard to pinpoint more than that.

progression and stats have not yet quite made itself felt, so its tacked-on for now.

generally, kingdom hearts 3 makes me want to play kingdom hearts 1

I think this game had real potential to be something, but it's not. Roaming around in the worlds searching for collectibles and hidden stuff can be fun, but progressing the story is just a pain in the ass. Filler cutscenes interrupt you all the time. The combat is really dull as all you do is spam buttons until you can use a special move, which interrupts the fight and plays a cutscene.

    Pros:
    - Best graphics ever, Donal, Goofy & actually everyone looks so good , its Amazing
    - Pixar movies, yeah their in the game and they really get the atmosphere right, with the voice actors, the movie's narrative & themes. really nailed that
    - Combat & Characters evolution, Companions has depth , combat has beautiful look & feel
    - Fun to play, character agility & Environment interaction paste are good, flow feels natural
    - Funny, makes you laugh, or at least smile
    - Gummi ship is now in open world , so it's nice addition

    Cons:
    - REALLY flat main plot, lacking the special KH charm
    - Music is so bad & unemotional, just a filler in the BG without any meaning, while previous titles gave meaning to each character & special moments with deep touching themes
    - Characters are overpowered leaving the many abilities not meaningful, unnecessary & unused. in previous titles you wanted to get that firaga spell so you'll get over a special boss fight/challenge
    - Lack of FINAL FANTASY Characters & original worlds. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT !!!
    - Title became a money maker, the game leaves you with a bad taste of greed, clearly instead of focusing in the KH magic, and giving a closer for 15 years fans, they just tease you for the next title with Sora keep looking a way to get all his friends back together. really shaming !!!
    - Worlds don't have a second coming plot & motivation, you just pass them once and then finish the game.
    - No challenge, i died only twice, once in guumi ship mission, and once in a special world mission when i couldn't figure out the goal in the first time. if you don't die at all in the final act.. then something is wrong here, the game is incomplete
    - Mini games sucks !!!
    - Shaming vintage mini games no one cares about, and even if you'll pay me i won't play them
    - Photo mode & Mobile phone - no one needs this s**t in KH, it only makes the atmosphere weird and out of place. KH used to be story of magic , not tech ...

The game isn't that bad, and easily worth a 7 score, but for KH fan its an EPIC FAIL !!!
    so my score is 5.

I'm quitting this franchise for good ...

First of all I'll be honest after completing the game I have no idea what the story was about ended up just skipping a lot of the later half of the cut scenes they seemed to come along every five minutes and i literally cant remember the other half outside of vague impressions.

The basic combat is ok you get attractions way to much and the combos a so bland it gets tedious. movement is the worse though Sora is so slow until you get the skill that attracts you to the enemy you are targeting but that doesn't help much.

The 'worlds' are pathetic outside of the graphics which are well done. they are basically paths for you to go through during the main quest once you've visited once there is pretty much nothing else to see the only exception being he Caribbean but while there a some small islands to explore, you'll only get a couple of chests and an enemy encounter or two.

You'll see no characters from Final Fantasy, why? because they weren't need to sell copies.

Really can not think of much else, i will say what there is of the game give the impression that the company just wanted to do the minimum required to get the game to past fans and rely on that to move copies. It seems to have worked as a lot of people seem to love it , not really sure where that is coming from at all.

To conclude this glorified rant the game is worth buying for like 20-30 pound wouldn't recommend it for any higher. the main issue is the obvious potential wasted because square put the least amount of effort they possibly could with out pissing of fans. The game could have so much more.

KHII is a miss. A massive, lazy, miss. The story feels nothing like KHI or KH2 and much more like the filler games and the overall feel of the game is back to usual mess where the developers dont know what to do with their convoluted plot. The Disney worlds are rushed and it feels like Sora and the gang have very little impact over what actually happens and are more just there to witness what happens in the movie (mind you they cut it down to about 3 mins of cut-scenes making the story incomprehensible as well.)

My main complaint lies in the combat. While it is flashy and Sora is his most powerful yet, the game doesnt hone in on what was done so well in KHII, but rather shifts into a button mash of flash and floaty combos that feel like the game doesnt care you get better at it, but rather, that it just gets better looking. They keyblades look like big, busy, toys, rather than a weapon and this truly doesn't feel like kingdom hearts I and II.

Overall I was very disappointed with this game and it did leave me feeling somewhat uneasy due to the fact that some of my favorite games have now been tarnished. I didn't hate the game, but it was a long shot from something I would recommend.

Frankly this doesn't hold a candle to the previous mainline titles of the series, and perhaps, it doesn't hold well even against the mobile spins-off either. There are plenty parts of the game that look fantastic. In fact, I would say the overall combat and look is definitely an improvement. That sadly is about as good as it gets.

    Pros:
    - Graphics are fantastic.
    - The Gummi ship system.
    - Overall Combat.
    - The final boss was fun.
    - Music is nice as always.
    - Keyblade transformations were a good improvement from form drives.

    Cons
    - Game was too easy on Proud mode even for casual players.
    - Post game content is basically non-existent. Only 1 secret boss.
    - Serious frame drops even during bosses.
    - Story pacing was terrible. Most gets "wrapped up"(use that phrase very lightly) in the last hour.
    - Many main characters could have had zero screen time, and the plot would have never changed.
    - Attractions are frankly unneeded. I admire the attempt though to try a new formula.
    - A couple of the "worlds" like Twilight Town and 100 Acre Woods could have been removed without consequence. They both are missing 90% of their worlds from previous titles.
    - The villains are more like set pieces or background noise in all the worlds minus the final world.
    - Multiple plot points just left unanswered for certain worlds.
    - No Final Fantasy characters. They would have gotten rid of Moogles, if it wasn't already known as the shop owners.
    - The "black box" was never once answered.
    - Maleficent and Pete both make appearances. Could have been cut, and not a single thing would have changed.
    - The final world introduces the 13th darkness, whom basically shows the scale of power that everyone on the good side has. Which is nothing apparently. Basically everyone gets wrecked in about a 2-3 minute cutscene. Same person then gets beaten in an easy boss fight after a couple deus ex occurs without any context/explanation at all.
-The final world is just a bunch of deus ex machinas.
-The other "heros" literally do nothing for 98% of the game.

Basically I hate to say this, but buy this game when it is at $30 or less. Kingdom hearts 3 did not feel complete, but instead It feels like everything was rushed, and they never play tested their boss fights. I sadly rate this game 5/10 for a game that felt like someone who made a rough draft and hit print instead of polishing it up. The entire time will feel like did anyone try to read the script to check for mistakes?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a huge disappointment as a long time fan of the series. Nomura and the Kingdom Hearts team really wrote themselves into a corner by requiring this one game to act as the sequel to 5 different games at the same time. They then took this impossible task a step farther by using KH3 to setup for the next saga they envision in the series. They wasted a bunch of game time on a Black Box red herring sub plot. THEN they decide to only start resolving the games major plot points in the last 1/4 of the game. THEN they use the games endings as a chance for sequel bait instead of giving fans a real ending after years and years of waiting. They had so many years to work on this game, and they had so much game-play time to devote to wrapping up all their loose ends. Instead they decide to do it at breakneck pace at the end of the game then undercut themselves with a cheap cliffhanger.

Because of this they don't earn any of the payoff moments they try to setup. Do beloved characters from the franchise reunite? Yeah, then the next group of 3 reunite, then the next, then this characters has a change of heart, then this Deus Ex Machina saves the team, then the next Deus Ex Machina happens, ect. It was like they had a checklist of things this game needed to resolve and reference then decided "Lets put this all in the last 5 hours of the game at breakneck pace so all the moments fall into each other and make a mess"

The Disney worlds have less relevance to the main plot than any previous game in the series. The games canon reason for going from world to world is to regain lost experience. Its a fourth wall breaking reason to go gain EXP from killing heartless. Instead of Micky and Riku going back and fourth between Yen Sids Tower and the Realm of Darkness for 14 hours of the story, they could have found Aqua in the first hour of the game. Maybe she has fallen to darkness and is able to escape the realm and starts terrorizing planets with heartless so people will feel her pain, loss, and loneliness. Then Sora's mission begins to take on story relevance as he is running into Aqua, Mickey and Riku on the worlds he visits. He isn't strong enough to beat her as he is and needs to be bailed out by Riku and Mickey. It explains why heartless are all over the Disney worlds he visits, and further shows Sora isn't strong enough to save anyone yet. Halfway through Sora, Riku and Mickey manage to save Aqua and wake Ventus with her help. Now that Sora has learned the power of waking from Ventus, he is able to use the Replica given to Ansem the wise and wake Roxas. Now halfway through the game 3 major goals have been achieved, and then the second half of the game can be saving Terra, Xion, and Namine. Now reunions can be spread out through the game instead of one after another cheapening their emotional impact. It allows game time for the characters that were reunited to really talk with each other and interact for more than a single cut scene. In 30 seconds of simple brainstorming I was able to make a more compelling story than what we got. How can a team of paid dev's and story tellers be so bad? Why did Sora recognize Xion? Why wasn't it Roxas or Lea, whose hearts are far more connected to hers than Sora's? Why was there never a scene where Terra and Riku talked? Why did Roxas and Namine never have a scene together after the ending they had in KH2.

The troubled Dev cycle really shows throughout the game. It becomes really apparent when there is an amazing set and moment broken up by incredibly inept story telling, missing sound effects, inconsistent CGI and animations, music, and missing chunks of story. Going through Arendelle and The Caribbean is like experiencing a fever dream. Characters appear out of nowhere and huge plot points are completely glazed over. Anna talks over her own singing in a headache inducing moment, Elsa gives a nice long exposition dump to save screen time for her to do a full shot for shot recreation of "Let it Go". Flynn randomly gets off the boat during the lantern scene to... do what? The twins aren't in this version of Tangled. Whats the importance of the satchel? We are never told anything. In previous Kingdom Hearts games if a Disney story was being retold they did a good job shortening the story and retelling it without a lot of exposition. You can follow the story on those worlds without having even seen the movie the world was based on. Can't do that in KH3. If you never saw Pirates 3 you will be totally lost with the story of that world.

The final fights with the 12 seekers of darkness are ridiculous. If you kill one of the 3 or 4 bosses you are fighting everything stops and you have a nice long 3 minute cut-scene, before the fight starts up again like nothing just happened. It like they intended them to be 1 on 1 fights like KH2 but changed their mind and grouped them all up. Made it very confusing.

5/10 will not be continuing the series. Poor Sora

The lack of final fantasy characters was a huge disappointment that left me wondering if Leon, yuffie, and the other major final fantasy characters decided they had enough and just abandoned their fight against the heartless. The interactions between Disney characters and Final Fantasy characters was a joy to watch and made the previous games charming and unique. In this game, most of the Disney worlds were pointless and a waste of time. In previous Kingdom hearts games the Disney characters and the main plot were meshed together and moved the plot along. In this game it feels like the main cast is just randomly walking around in the background while the poorly paced Disney stories are played out. The meaningless adventure in each world takes up a chunk of the games play time, and the game then wraps up massive story plots in the last few hours of the game without fleshing them out more. This game was my childhood, and I expected them to go all out with this game. The lack of secret bosses, the smaller and emptier worlds, and the removal of final fantasy characters all felt like huge missteps that were done for no apparent reason. The difficulty was also way too easy compared to past games. Kingdom Hearts 3 feels like a shell of its former self. This game makes me question who exactly this games target audience was, because it definitely was not for the core fans that played through the previous games. The visuals were amazing and the combat was also fun and interesting. If the difficulty weren't so easy the combat could have been the best in the series. Unfortunately most of the interesting combat options are pointless since you can just mash one button and beat the entire game. I'm giving this game a 5 because certain moments in the game were able to make me feel the nostalgia of playing a kingdom hearts game. The visuals were also incredible. But, by the end of the game I was thoroughly disappointed. Expand

But sadly, i failed at tangled and Anna's how to build a snow man bit because it was unbearable to watch.
The dialog was slow and i could not bother to watch a story I already knew. I also hate the fact that there's a HD ier version of Sora like in the 'Let it go' song and some other parts that I could not care to remember.
Still salty that they did not bother to explain why Roxas looks like Ventus. All they did was make Axel joke about it by saying " Sorry we're late. Had a couple of plot points that needed ironing out"
And the ending was a disaster. If Nomura wanted to make FF15 then he should just do it. I don't see any reason to bring Sora into this.
Kairi was useless than ever and the game created more question than they could answer.
I felt so rip off that I rush my way to getting the Ultima Weapon just to make up for that.

I would like to start off thinking my self as a Kingdom Hearts buff. I understand and know most of everything that has taken place in the Kingdom Hearts series from Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep all the way until now. I may have not played every game But i have made sure to understand the story from the games I could not play.

The biggest let down of this game is something that was introduced into Kingdom hearts II. which was the Drive system. That system felt good. I thoroughly enjoyed the system. The Keyblade form changes were unique and felt good. but the dual wielding aspect of Kingdom Hearts II should have carried through to this game for Sora. Another thing disappointing was the fact the game left out some trademark Keyblades that been apart of Sora's arsenal in both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Heart 2. I will not name names. but they are missing none the less.

While I understand the game requires to tie up a lot of Xehanort story lines, we seen not a single Final Fantasy character. this in my opinion made the game feel less Kingdom Hearts. The lack of Final Fantasy characters such as Yuffie, Leon, Aerith, Tifa, Cloud, and many other Final Fantasy characters has left the game feeling incredibly hollow. We didn't even here a mention of them. what is worse is we didn't even go one of the most recognizable Worlds in hollow Bastion or would be renamed after all the missions in it were completed Radiant garden.

The one thing i will give the Gummi ship is that it is rather enjoyable by comparison to its iterations from Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts 2. Free roam there are some missions you can do to break up the world hopping but its a dash of fluff. there are a few achievements to be gained from this part of the game its again fun.

the biggest issue i had with all the worlds was once their stories was done, that was it. there was a few times i would go back for the flan Side quests. But more often than not i didn't go back unless it was to collect all the treasures or lucky emblems. and once you get one of the best Keyblades for farming synthesizing materials. it comes from one of the first two selectable worlds and i cannot remember but at any given time it always felt like there were only two story worlds you could travel to at a time until you completed the pairing. which is not a bad thing as both Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II did this. and the fact there are only nine worlds and Ten if you consider the book of Pooh a tenth which short lived and was almost meaningless to the game. Kingdom hearts one didn't have nearly as many worlds or places you could travel to like Kingdom hearts II did. But Kingdom hearts III further behind the previous incarnations. with only 9 worlds to explore and the final stage really doesn't have much to explore in it. which is hugely disappointing.

one of the highlights of this game has to be its combat and traversing systems. most of the attractions commands are novel at best. use them a couple of times before they where out their novelty. But the combo attacks with Goof Donald and the unique world companion are some of the most unique and great additions to the game. The days of burning through your entire MP reserve are now gone when utilizing combo attacks. one of the best implementations. i cannot say how this makes me happy as someone who would never use the combo attacks from the prior games with out feeling like i was left out in the wind due to MP resources being eaten away. the Keyblade form changes fantastic most are great that i have used. there is one that i find to be rather annoying but that is a story for another time. great system. i just feel its going to be left behind like the rest of the other systems.

glaring aspects that cannot be ignored overly long cut scenes at the end each world. I appreciate all the dialogue and exposition. but it when it detracts from the game play thats a negative. I almost felt in some cases i was playing Metal Gear Solid 4 with all the Cut Scenes. and yes they were valuable to the main story. While they did tie up the Xehanorth Saga, they still didn't wrap it up like a bow like they needed to. The end of this game felt incomplete.

one of the best revisions to one of the more long lasting traditions was the synthesizing shop. the you get new patterns of providing new synthesizing materials is excellent fantastic change.

for a game that has been in development since 2013 and has been anticipated since 2005 for Japan and 2006 for the rest of the world. and took nearly thirteen years later to reach the hands of the audience this game shows how flawed it really is. a lot of the feeling that made Kingdom Hearts Kingdom Hearts just is not there anymore. its an unfortunate tale of dragging a convoluted story out too long over too many platforms. The anticipation for this game and the expectations were a let down. I spent 70+ hours on this game. at least i got my moneys worth out of the game.

The game's story is very boring and bland. The dialog is stiff and emotionless. Combat is okay. I just found myself mashing the attack button until I got the Keyblade's powerup. I barely used any of the spells or potions.

Better than DDD but that's not saying much. Some great moments for die hard fans but those moments are stretched over an increadibly poorly paced story. Combat is just ok

Some things left me completely mind boggled by how the developers could have made so many errors in logic and continuity. This is also undoubtedly a kids game, and very basic and easy. I think in the 2 hours I spent giving this multiple chances, I played maybe 10 minutes worth of gameplay and the rest are just lengthy cutscenes. I have given it a 5 purely because it may be satisfactory for kids or for people who have played the previous 2 titles, but I can’t forgive what they created here, it’s like watching an extended cutscenes to Disney flicks with not much gameplay, and mind numbing gameplay at that. The subtractions far outweigh the additions. Combat feels awesome, but the short list of keyblades is a huge disappointment. Big chests that should be exciting only ever have maps or minigames. And not including Final Fantasy character makes this not Kingdom Hearts in my opinion.

Tedious gameplay, abundant and invasive cut scenes, incoherent storyline. Strongest point is excellent tutorials. Unfortunately the tutorials don't leave the player any less lost due to the incomprehensible narrative.

Can't even describe my disappointment, kingdom hearts character are no longer integrated into the story of the worlds so it ended up looking like a giant disney ad.
Even though the worlds are bigger in area size they feel much smaller than in kh1 and 2 because of the lack in variety of locations in a single world.

Plus THERE ARE NO FINAL FANTASY CHARACTERS.
This game kinda killed the series for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. On it's own this was an okay game. Interesting new mechanics and wonderful visuals. However in the grand scheme it pales in comparison to its predecessors of 2,1 and even the hand held BBS. Incredibly easy to beat anything if you play semi well, key characters do not get voice lines, there is little motivation for moving the plot forward and you have little incentive to return to worlds. An okay entry and a decent RPG but not one I'll be reaching for post content any time soon. (Beaten on normal 32Hr not rushing) Expand

In one sentence: Kingdom Hearts III is an uninspired, repetitive game carrying out a non-sensical and mawkish plot. The visuals are nice, indeed, perhaps also the OST, but apart from that, nothing remarkable. Now about the plot, I don't wanna be a cry baby, but believe when I say the best way to describe is the following: imagine a 13 year-old writing a fan fiction the afternoon after her/his first heart-break. People say the story of the saga is complicated; let me tell you it is not. The story of the saga is quite simple, but they try to make it look complex by adding unrelated ideas extremely bad brought together, as if someone wanted to look smart asking silly questions in the most convoluted, poorly rhetorical way. All in all, it looks like a game whose only virtue is its name; other than that, its an old game, where all the effort has been put in making it pretty, not even being that nice to look at after all. Story - Oh man, I can’t come up with a proper way to explain how bad this story is! The easiest way to describe it is, this game was never intended to have a story this long when it was first made the writers weren’t expecting to come back a dozen more times with story updates, and it is obvious. The game has a great mechanic for this in the “Disney” franchising as they can just have the disney element of any given world add a new chunk of story and dialogue that is self contained and will be solved within that same world. The problem with this is that the story is heavily reliant on a movie that many players have probably scene. Its best described by “Video Game Dunkey” as “Watching a Disney movie where someone fast forwards through the story and stops at a few select scenes, but the in game characters tell you what you missed”. Im going to go so far as to say this game is the absolute “Worst Video Game Story Ever”. - Straight up 0/10

Game Play: Side - We will be splitting this in to two parts, side and main content. For the side content I am talking all things not combat and story involved. The game has a major amount of things to do that come off as mini games or optional events. The returning champion here is the “Gummi” ship, a portion that plays like a starfox style rail shooter in SPACE… Vastly improved from the previous games, this is now a free exploration shooter similar in feel to bring the classic “asteroid” into a modern 3D game. Exploration, leveling, bosses, missions and hidden secrets (not all that secret) it’s more flushed out, but its also “required” if you want the Ultima weapon and a Platinum trophy. I know this will effect some people but im fairly neutral to this, it features the hardest boss fight in the game and is not bad but its just not Kingdom Hearts and it kind of impacted the level of immersion you could feel with the actual game. The smaller side and mini games are vast but not as flushed out. You have; Cooking with Remy from Ratatouille, snowboarding in Arandell, Playing Superman 64 in SanFransokyo (who would try to replicate Superman 64 what were you thinking). Dancing with Rapunzel, Mech combat in Toy Story, bejeweled in 100 acre wood, Sailin the Carribean. They range from tedious to fun with the most personal joy coming from being a pirate and the gummi missions. Sadly they were all a little too easy and had some simplistic and one dimensional mechanics and just lacked substance.

    Game Play: Main -
No major complaints, it is quite enjoyable, flushed out, and involved despite using almost 2 buttons exclusively. The effects and flow of the combat is nothing to scoff at and many developers are far behind KH3 when it comes to fluid combat. The issue is… it’s too easy. Playing on “Proud”, as hard as it gets, i ran into no combat issues. It wasn’t until the very end i realized i had never died in the game. You have two things that trigger before you die that prevent death and full heal your character. It makes everything just a little too easy. In previous titles there was a plethora of Post game bosses that got quite difficult and even when playing the remakes they stayed hard. Despite this in KH3 there is one secret boss post game and he is a laughably easy event. I clicked through the warning window and came out victorious on my first try with 0 preparation and 30 levels below max level of 99. I wasn’t using the ultimate keyblade and still didn’t even use have to use both of the life saving options the game hands to you. 6/10

Sound/Music - The majority of the songs are popular Disney songs that you’ve probably heard a billion times. You also have the characters saying the same 2 or 3 lines constantly while exploring and within an hour of being in any zone i resorted to turning the sound off in favor of something less repetitive. The Classical pieces from Square Enix were nice and usually only used for one scene giving some redemption. 3/10

Level Design/Graphics - Beautiful and flushed out, most every level was a wonder to explore and quite beautiful to look at. The promise of the levels being giant and sprawling seems true at first glance but the mini map dictates to you that it’s not actually much larger than the previous titles and with the update to the speed at which Sora can traverse the levels it ends up coming out pretty equal to KH2 in just how big it actually feels. As a whole this may be the truly best part of the game and i hope the design team gets some praise internally cause their hard work shows and it was worth it. 9/10
In the end, everything felt unfinished. The vast array of mini games and change ups in game play were ok at first but by the end everything was kind of a let down because there was no challenge or substance. it was like they put everything into expositing the story at you and it just wasn't a good story.

Kingdom Hearts III doesn’t go in the direction some RPG fans will no doubt have been hoping for. It’s unashamedly over the top in just about every way, from its barmy story and stunning presentation to its huge cinematic battles. There’s plenty of depth here too, though you’ll need to find your bearings first.

There is no doubt that Kingdom Hearts III will make long term fans moved or even cry. As for those new to the franchise, I believe they also can be satisfied because of tons of classic Disney elements and solid combat system, even though they could barely understand the main story.
