Great game, but clearly needs a little bit of work for some it's commands, and for that matter, the various different triangle commands are too rampant and sometimes get in the way of other things the triangle button is used for. I heard some people don't like the game because it's easy, but in the end, what really matters, is if it's fun, and Kingdom Hearts III certainly is. The story is also really good, and the other side events are also a lot of fun. I wouldn't say the game is completely perfect, but the problems it has are totally overwritten by the good story, great gameplay, and everything else. KHIII is game of the year so far, no doubt. A long wait well worth our patience. Kingdom Hearts 3 meets all my expectations and expands upon the franchise. Combat is smooth and engaging while not being too different from what we already have in the series.

The game feels like it has matured in the years since KH2 and doesn't start off holding your hand. Worth every minute and cent that you spend on this game.

    Enjoy your adventure!

Firstly this game is significantly shorter than KH2. Part of this is due to combat. Fights are far less memorable as it is completely unnecessary to learn the attack set of bosses. It's hardly necessary to even dodge that much since hits, even from the final boss, are not very damaging. I died a grand total of one time in my 30hr proud playthrough, even though I was underleveled for nearly every world. Getting what's essentially a drive form every 6 or 7 strokes of the keyblade is extremely overpowered.

The plot development is poor. In KH2 there was significant buildup by first getting rid of sometimes massive heartless (pridelands) to eventually having a very difficult fight against each organization member boss battle. Even Demyx was a bit of a challenge. Here we go through a few world's for what's essentially no reason (they don't need saving or anything of the sort) all the while having no fights with organization members except for the short OP joke with Aqua against ...
As an aside, there could have been much better buildup leading to getting back both of Aqua's friends, but there isn't. It basically just happens.
Shortly after Aqua's battle we suddenly then fight multiple bosses who are rather weak, a joke compared to their versions in previous games. And then we basically end up finishing the game with an unmemorable final boss, not ever knowing what actually was beyond the world he sought.

KH3 is beautiful and a decent end to many loose ends. But those ends are tied up too hastily, with us oftentimes barely having to put any effort in to fighting for tying up those ends. At the same time we are given content which has nothing to do with building up a conclusion to those loose ends, such as the extraordinarily long plough though Frozen.

TLDR; Combat needs be seriously rebalanced, being more similar to KH2 or DDD. Plot buildup could have been much better than it was.

I've pretty much played all the Kingdom Hearts games and I was fairly underwhelmed with KH3. Storywise, a lot of plot points are just left up in the air.

It was still a good game, fun combat, but way too easy. I suck at gaming and Kh1 and 2 on proud-mode are almost an impossible task for me unless I grind a lot. Here I finished the game on level 47 without all too much effort and didn't grind at all, only 100% found everything in the first 5 worlds as well.

Mashing X combat was never true for me in the previous games, but in this game, you can quite comfortably just mash x all the way through and get pretty far, I beat the game and I still don't know how to block properly.

I love the series, enjoyed the game, but a bit disappointed in the lack of resolution and challenge.

    *combat*
    let's start with the combat.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has the most dumbed down & insulting system I have ever experienced. What they did to the combat system is absolutely disgusting. instead of having a proper command menu, 80% of your options are all locked behind "Situation Commands" which are spoon fed to you at the games discretion. All that's required of you is that you press triangle. It's a mindless streamlined system designed to take away your freedom & play the game for you. Players choice, responsibility & resource management have been stripped away to accommodate incompetent & less intelligent players at the cost of competent players as there's no way for them to get control. Situation commands are unreliable, cheap, limited free garbage the game gives you and many of them are random. You have no drive gauge & they removed drive forms. Some of the new transformations are good but again they're held back by the casualised situation system which I assume was put in the game so toddlers could complete it.

Soras new attack animations are wonky & all over the place. not clean, quick and focused like KH2's. this results in worse combat feel. standard attacks over all just feel like a cheap imitation of KH2's attacks when they should feel better.

Combat is flashy but not flashy in a functional way. The game values flashiness over substance. Many of your "attacks" in combat are just glorified cutscenes now. limits in this game have been neutered. For example Donalds limits in KH2 were gameplay. They had timing depth, combo potential & required smart use.
In KH3 Donalds limits are cutscenes that have no gameplay value at all. you just press triangle and the cutscene plays out. there's also far less variety in combat. KH2 had 14 partner limits. KH3 only has 11 and a bunch of them are just cutscenes.
Summons in this game are not really summons. they've essentially been reduced to single limits & the majority of them suck & have no viable use.
instead of reaction commands we have a handful of big, out of place Disney rides. they suck. it's all obnoxious, goofy looking garbage that interrupts your gameplay.

This game has serious balance issues that need to be fixed. There's no critical mode and every other mode is too easy.
lvl1 proud mode is almost unplayable and was clearly never tested by the devs. yet they still put it in.
there's no proper level scaling & enemy placement & behaviour is not solid or well thought out.
    *movement*
There's more platforming now which I wanted but Soras basic movement hasn't been improved from 2 and now he has more clunky moves. at no point in the game does platforming flow together well. it always feels really disjointed.
    *camera*
The camera is a nightmare to deal with. constantly fighting with you for control, will often get stuck behind things & will often zoom off so Sora isn't even on screen.

    -BOSSES-
Bossfights range from serviceable to down right terrible.
Kingdom Hearts 2 had 60+ bosses & the quality of those fights was higher
KH3 has a measly 28, including the secret boss & 4 of those are the same heartless swarm again.

    -WORLDS-
Twilight Town? It's only 2 areas.
100 Acre Wood? more like 1 Acre Wood. it's 1 minigame at rabbits house.
    Yeah a lot of these 'worlds' aren't even worlds. they're 1 or 2 rooms. there's only really 7 worlds (KH2 had 15)
they're fairly big but filled with invisible walls and the art direction is ruined by the obnoxious white shine on walls, polls ect that you can't turn off.
Shorter & less content. a lot of what inflates the hours is the cutscenes & super long loading screens. which brings me to the performance. framerate is unstable with regular frame drops thru out the game (and due to some sort of weird optimisation many characters animations often go all choppy).

    -STORY-
The story is as poorly written & stupid as ever. It's such a tangled mess of bloated, unnecessary nonsense now, the writers can't even keep track of their own characters. The usual incoherent gibberish of "darkness, hearts, darkness, friendship" is all there but now it's more repetitive than ever.
The dialogue is still poorly written. World endings are usually the worst.
The 'humour' in this game consists of characters laughing like morons at something thats not remotely funny as the camera pans out.
The story is so phoned in, even the characters start phoning it in.
Characters go from being total powerhouses to complete drooling potatoes in cutscenes.
There's one cutscene in the final battle where Sora actually gets knocked unconscious from another character stumbling & falling over on him. I'm not joking. The ending is complete fan service trash & the main villain completely does a 180 on his character in the end and it's laughable and not not believable.

it's hard to believe KH3 has been in development for 7 years. it has a plethora of design problems & is a stripped down, lacklustre experience & a bad sequel

Listen, I'm coming into this game as a long time super fan but I had very measured expectations, given the long and rough development cycle. But now that I've finished it I can say with a clear heart this game has lowered the bar. I cannot begin to fathom the overwhelming praise for what has to be the singular worst title in the entire franchise.

First off, combat is inconsequential, even playing on Proud and staying very under-leveled throughout the game. This is really disappointing because the franchise made some great strides in the experimental side games, but seems to have thrown it all out in favor of adding more and more variations on reaction commands that clutter up the screen and take control away from the player. A huge portion of the game consists of a vast array mini-games, vehicles, or other gimmicks. I wouldn't be irate about this if the core of the game didn't feel completely neglected by the number of distractions. It feels like such a massive step backwards it stepped back past Kingdom Hearts and into a collect-a-thon platformer from the early PS1 era. And even that's not fun, as most of the collecting is trivial time-wasting garbage like scouring around for places to take selfies, which is actually essential for the real ending movie.

Though they went 'open world' and removed the load doors in most parts of the levels the worlds are a lot smaller in feel. The larger scale ones are merely bloated with empty space and massive chunks of the Disney plots have been sheared out of their respective worlds. I honestly though I might have fallen asleep during a cutscene in one world because the entire middle of the plot was missing! A character started calling another one by an entirely different name out of nowhere. If I hadn't seen the movie it was based on I would have NO IDEA what was going on. Other worlds didn't fair much better and most can be completed in little-to-no time, with the bulk of it being cutscenes. Two of the already abysmally small selection of worlds consists of a single room/story point and then leaving. There are so few worlds, and they are so barren of anything to do, you have to wonder why the game was in development hell for so long. It's honestly inexcusable.

There are all kinds of technical things I could harp on and on about, but at the end of the day I know that most fans will put up with problematic cameras and phoned in voice-acting if they're at least having fun. And to me that was the most damning part; I wasn't having fun. For a huge amount of the game I was bored to tears. If the combat isn't engaging, and the mini-games are a waste of time, then what is there left? The story?

The story doesn't even begin to happen until you enter the last third of the game. While I know it's a bit of a meme to say Square-Enix games typically get really good about 20 hours in, I've never thought of it as being literal until now. So was it worth slogging through the first two-thirds for the sweet, sweet closure us long time fans have been aching for?

Honestly? No. I think this game is an embarrassment. I don't think it should have been put out in the state it's in. It feels like not even half way finished, like the suits at Square snatched a prototype out of Nomura's hands and flung it on the shelves. I don't think it's unfair of me to judge the game harshly for it's tiny scale, lack of ambition, it's missing plot lines, grossly devolved combat, bad voice acting, and worst of all 2/3rds of boring filler in a 20 hour game. Especially not when they had over a decade to get the game right.

Look, I wasn't expecting anything perfect. I wasn't expecting much of anything at all. A bit of nostalgia, a bit of closure, a couple of laughs at the cornball dialogue I'd come to love. But this is a disaster. This is the definitive version of "I expected nothing and I'm still disappointed". This game would have had to do so little to please me, it's almost like it intentionally missed the mark every way it possibly could. The only, and I mean only, redeeming thing is the soundtrack, and for that I give it one star.

If you are a die-hard fan seeking to send off the series, do yourself a favor and watch the cut scenes on youtube. Don't ruin the magic of an actually pretty sweet ending by playing such a bitter game.

Square Enix has completely removed ALL the Final Fantasy characters from KH3. No more Squall, no more Cloud, Cid, Sephiroth, etc... instead we're left with easter eggs to remind us that they once existed in the game. Other than that... poof ... they are all gone with no explanation. Instead we're only left with Disney characters. So for those of us who played KH for the FF stuff, we're pretty much scrooged.

So disappointed in Square. I was almost sure there was no way they could mess KH3 up given how much time they had to work on it. Looks like they proved us wrong, considerably.

Also, on a last note, since KH is a crossover of FF and Disney, what does that make KH now that FF is no longer a part of the equation? It's an entirely different game. Just rename it to Disney Hearts or something and be done with it. Or Square, do the right thing and bring FF back. It was us FF fans that hyped this game up to what it is today, it's the least you could do. If you feel they aren't relevant to the plot, Fine. Have them be side quests and what not. No harm done. Till then I'm not giving you any of my sweet sweet monies.

The story is complete garbage. There are so many corny moments in the story. The running animations are cringeworthy. The animations overall is trash. This game has too many invisible walls. This a 2019 $60 game. At this point, I shouldn't have to run through so many invisible walls. That is just laziness, and very PS2-like. Speaking of the PS2, that is basically what the game is. It's not a PS4 game, it's a PS2 game.

Also, there is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is not a reason to play this game again. It will go back to the shelf collecting dust. Charging $60 for a game with no replay value is a cashgrab. I recommend you only get this game until it's $5, or wait until it's free on PS Plus.

I want to mention that I am a huge fan of the Kingdom Hearts series and played KH1, KH2, BBS, DDD, CoM and KH2,5. Lets start with the good things: The graphic and soundtrack are really good. I cant imagine a Kingdom Hearts without Hikaru Utada songs. The battle system works fine and left no regrets. “Small spoilers if even that”: I like the worlds from tangled (Rapunzel and her hair are the best companion), the Toy Story world with the Mech battles, the Pirates of the Caribbean ship combat and mostly the whole Big Hero Six, Monster Inc. and Frozen world and arc. I don't need to mention that I like our heroes and their friends (I wouldn't be a Kingdom Hearts fan if I hated them). Kingdom Hearts is about the power of love, friendship and overcoming the odds. At last the retro mini games are a fine bonus improved by nostalgia. Now lets get to the bad things: There is no Final Fantasy character in this game (except Moogles). This is madness and false labelling. We want to get our FF heroes back in action and the Sephiroth secret super boss fight as in the previous main games. The first world Olympus gave me boredom for the first time in any KH game. Then there is the lack of established content: There are no Colosseum battles. You visit all worlds only once story-wise (In KH1 and KH2 you return later for new story parts) which is a fitting transition to Pirates of the Caribbean. They left out Death Man's Chest and only do At Worlds End and even then you have barley a part in the story. Wasted opportunity (Good Davy Jones or Kraken fights and character moments for Jack, Will and Elisabeth). There was no Marvel or Star Wars themed world which is a big miss (I read that they had the rights to use both franchises. If not I apologize). Then there is the ending. For me while doing things right is an underperformance and partly unsatisfying (Issues are not resolved. Wont spoil but I bet there should be countless rants on the internet). They had also the nerve to not close the story line for DLC reasons. Overall I think that the game was rushed and they didn't know how to end the trilogy. While I enjoyed the game it was also a disappointment. I subtract 1 point for the DLC. Expand

However, regardless of the target market this is just a plainly bad game. I'm not even going to mention the story (The story revolves around the idea that Sora has inexplicably lost all his powers and needs to spend 30 hours of gameplay to get them backs so he can fight Xehanort. Great.) because 1. It's KH so it's not going to make sense anyway and 2. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the game which is what makes me to saddest of all. When I was a kid I had a piece of paper with the countdown till the release of KH2 and I would mark off the days every single day until the game finally released. To this day, KH1 and 2 are 2 of my favorite games of all time but KH just feels so far removed from the core series that I don't even feel any sense of nostalgia when I play it, it's just unrecognizable and unfortunately not in a good way.

My absolute number one issue with the game is the combat, or lack thereof. KH1 and 2 didn't have incredibly deep combat systems but they worked, they posed a challenge on higher difficulties and overall they were just fun. I played KH1 and 2 a couple of years ago and at age 20 something, I can still enjoy the combat. The combat in KH3 is insulting honestly and this is where the target market of the game really shines through. If you want it to, 80% of combat boils down to waiting for a command prompt, then you press one button and get a mini cutscene or weak mini game and suddenly everything on the screen is dead, and there isn't nearly enough variety in these mini cutscenes so they get stale after about an hour. I refused to use these special attacks at all after a certain time. Even without the special attacks, I didn't die a single time during my 10 or so hours on Proud difficulty. I'm an experienced KH player but certainly not some KH prodigy. The game is just too damn easy and it's clear the game was balanced for children.

I have similar issues with some of the world and platforming. Half of the time it barely feels like I'm doing anything. I'm stuck on a rail system and I press a button or move a stick once every few seconds. It's incredibly brain dead. But that's what the game eventually boils down to, once you strip away all the visuals the game is a essentially just a series of glorified qte's, from the combat to the platforming. Even the cutscenes are a qte because you can believe I'm trying to press the skip button as fast as possible.

Visuals. Look fine I guess. Again, the visuals went in a different direction from the originals (which is to be expected between generations of consoles) but Sora's character model has some weird plasticy look to it, almost like you're constantly stuck in Toy Story and you're still using Sora's toy costume. He doesn't quite look like Sora anymore.

Plenty of other people have mentioned this also, but there are no Final Fantasy characters. They've just been simply stripped from the game, presumably because kids in the 6-15 range have no idea who Cloud or Sid is these days. Ok that's fine whatever, the game is made for kids. What does bother me, is that this decision more than any other is a complete middle finger to OG fans of the series. The only reason to remove the FF characters is because they require resources and kids these days won't recognize them so why bother putting them in the game? Screw the OG fans right?

Positives: I genuinely find it difficult to find any positives. We actually finally got a KH3 so I guess that's a positive right? Even if they KH3 we did eventually get is a pale imitation of legendary games from the PS2 era.

I don't mind bad ending. As long as you tell the story good.
Why splitting the big villain story one by one but mixing them in a single fight? What sorcery is this? It feels the other one cannot blend into the same story.

So much effort to dig the gold, yet so little content to let the players feel the money they spent is worthwhile. Yes I am talking at you, the stupid Re Mind DLC, bringing more confusion to the already confused story.

After DDD, the story here becomes even more stupid. In addition, no FF characters and combat system changes where you wonder which noob at Enix had this idea. Once again Enix typically puts more emphasis on the graphics rather on the story and gameplay. KH is a Disney/FF crossover, they don't even seem to understand that.

This game has all the worst part of the franchise. The art direction is ok, but that's about it. The game is slow, boring and dumb. It's not a quirk of the KH series, it's just bad direction. The lines are also kinda bad, Nomura can't write for **** he should just stick to character design.

On top of that, the story itself is just bad as it desperately tries to make sense of the many spinoff games that for some reason HAD to be relevant for the whole plot.

Gameplay wise it doesn't get better. It tries to mix together all the stupid gimmiks from the other games, making it shallow. They just had to take the gameplay from KH2 and paste it on KH3, I don't know how they were able to mess it up so bad, but then again, looking at BBS and its super-bosses, I don't know why I'm even surprised at this point.

Kingdom Hearts 3 has some of the worst dialog and writing ive ever witnessed in a game. But its combat is a bit fun despite being completely braindead.

Terrible, boring game. Just pressing the same button for hours on end. Excruciating.

Better than DDD but that's not saying much. Some great moments for die hard fans but those moments are stretched over an increadibly poorly paced story. Combat is just ok

This game shines at moments, but in others I was disappointed. Some of the worlds felt unfinished and empty, while others were amazing. I have mixed feelings about the game. I played the first kingdom hearts and really enjoyed it. This game felt like it didnt have as many worlds and things to do, and felt short. I havent finished the last boss, started to lose interest now that all the Disney worlds are done. The Kingdom hearts worlds are the weakest and least interesting. However the toy story and pirates of the Caribbean worlds were amazing and I went back to replay those parts repeatedly. If only the whole game had the same quality and appeal. Expand

The subtractions far outweigh the additions. Combat feels awesome, but the short list of keyblades is a huge disappointment. Big chests that should be exciting only ever have maps or minigames. And not including Final Fantasy character makes this not Kingdom Hearts in my opinion.

Kingdom Hearts III doesn’t go in the direction some RPG fans will no doubt have been hoping for. It’s unashamedly over the top in just about every way, from its barmy story and stunning presentation to its huge cinematic battles. There’s plenty of depth here too, though you’ll need to find your bearings first.

There is no doubt that Kingdom Hearts III will make long term fans moved or even cry. As for those new to the franchise, I believe they also can be satisfied because of tons of classic Disney elements and solid combat system, even though they could barely understand the main story.
