A boring, unbalanced and slow videogame. A part from a few, all the voice actors sound like damn robots, the dialogues are horrible and the general pace of the game is too slow.
The combat system, something I hoped would make me like this game a bit is bad.

All of Nomuras creations have been blantant abominations from a story standpoint and KH3 is no exception. I dont understand how anyone over the age of 12 can consider this nonsense story to be enjoyable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kingdom Hearts 3/10, and it would probably have been 2 if I hadn't come up with that opening line. It was, monstrously bad, failing across the board in level design, individual stories, characters, overarching story and gameplay. It was a culmination of all the games up until this point, and the way they did that was by cramming every bad part of the previous games into this one.

KH1, combination Hack'n'slash and JRPG. KH3 is not a JRPG in any way, shape or form. They removed the interesting command deck they'd nearly perfected with Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, but they kept the barren, too big areas and the rail-grinding and wall-running. No character building, no use for the magic system, no difficulty unless they decide to artificially inflate it with massive HP and attacks that do absurd damage, which has admittedly been a failing of the series since KH1.5 and 2.5 introduced their secret bosses. Bosses like Sephiroth, Reaper and Kurt Zisa were fun, they required thought and strategy and changing around your abilities. Not so with the formula for powerful bosses they've crafted since. I thought they'd kind of gotten the hang of it again after DDD introduced Julius which was a boss that made us use the environment and certain useful commands to our advantage, but no, KH3 decided to make all its ReMind bosses boring and artificially aggravating.

Now let's look at the story. So, they begin with the three heroes of the KH series each embarking on a mission. Sora needs to reawaken his power, Riku needs to save Aqua and Kairi needs to train. Now, considering the fact that they'd made 2 good games with branching, interconnected stories (BBS and DDD), why did they not think "Let's let the player swap between these three?". Let Kairi run around some new Disney worlds that Sora had never seen to get stronger and have her own adventures. Let Sora revisit his old friends while trying to get over his mental block (characters that spring to mind include Cloud, Elsa, Jack Skellington, Ariel and Beast. And have Riku coming to terms with the darkness inside him while exploring the dark worlds.

What we get instead is Kairi removed from the story for 90% of the game, Riku going through his own stuff in cutscenes apart from a couple of gratuitous gameplay sequences, and Sora traipsing through flat out copied and pasted Disney films with Sora and Co sloppily photoshopped in! Then we learn that Sora's story is irrelevant because the power was inside him all along (Barf) and then he DeusExCaliber's Riku and saves Aqua (Dumb) and then it's straight onto the final fight which manages to tie up the Nobodies and Apprentices storylines nice enough, but fails to be either interesting or fun beyond those fights.

Much like KH as a whole, they go too big and flashy without enough meat on any given section or story beat to be remotely entertaining. Huge worlds, huge fights, dramatic set pieces chained together and a combat system which basically boils down to "look at this pretty **** pirate ship/explosion/fiery lion, aren't the ps4's graphics amazing!?"

How, in the name of Zeus, Genova, Calypso, Hades and every other god featured in this god-awful game, can the studio have spent a decade making it and have it still feel rushed. Granted, Disney didn't help since I imagine they insisted the game followed the scripts of their stories, and I'm almost tempted to say that I enjoyed the Toy Story world minus the unnecessary size and length, but the love of all that's sane, why did Disney feel the need to have the Frozen soundtrack shoehorned in?

In short it was a poor climax to a declining series made even worse by gratuitous Disney masturbation.

The writing devolves into basic plot devices and constant repetition of "hearts," "darkness," "light," and not much more than that. A disappointing finale to the "Dark Seeker Saga" of the series that most definitely will lead to just another dark void of repetitive nothing. Expand

This is the most cringe thing i've ever saw in my entire life. This franchise was good when the players were still children. But now it is way too annoying. Dialogues are so so bad, that ive skipped all of the end game sidequests. Gameplay doesnt make up for it too. Very repetitive. The only good thing are the enemy designs.

The music was by far the worst soundtrack in the series. There was only ONE good song and it was in the final world, everything else felt like generic orchestrated rehashes of old ones or new ones, and you can tell so easily that most of this work was given to Yoko Shimomura's assistants and not her.

There was no passions, and only in the final stretch of the game can you feel some semblance of character development and story progression, but too little too late, by then I had already bored myself to death. No amount of Roxas and Xemnas story fulfilments will make up for how bad the game is.

And the other problems that started with Birth By Sleep? Still present. Combat is floaty, you're better off spamming attraction flow than you are actually using your keyblade, the transformations just make everything feel like a button masher rather than a skill based game, bosses continue having random revenge values where they just instantly counter you out of your combo... Infuriating game, and truly a huge disappoitment compared to 2. They should've ended the series after 358/2 Days.

A YouTuber once astutely mused that "kingdom hearts is about using Disney characters to lure you into playing a fan fiction written by a monkey" and they're right. The story is ridiculous, the dialog from characters is not believable, and there are so many loose ends that are not tied up.
Honestly they could have just spun together another quick story as to how the Disney characters are connected, gone with the same brilliant visuals and this game would have been an all time classic. Instead we get a confusing mess of a story, cringy dialogue cutscenes, and inbetween that we have good gameplay. It's extremely frustrating because you can feel that the game wants to be great and could have been in the hands of literally any of pixars writers, instead we are stuck with Nomura the washed up fogey because japanese studios value tenure and respect over actual ability.

The whole game was a huge advertisement for Disney. The Disney stories were rewritten to fit in Sora; it's so pathetic and lazy. And so the reality is that the KH story was left to the last 10 hours of the game and it was such a confusing and nonsensical story.... straight garbage! Again, what a pathetic team of producers and writers!

Oh and what made it even worse is that they let their customers pay for the fact that the writers were complete trash, by having them pay for a DLC (Re:Mind) which didn't actually add to the story at all.

What a bunch of sht stains the people at Square Enix are! I'm never buying a game from them ever again!

    Moving on...

Level design was good. Music was okay. The battle command system is so overwhelming I literally forgot about about half the options available. I ended up beating the game with magic and basic attacks. Summons? What are those? Focus? Huh? Multiple keyblades.... never alternated between them, not once.

And why is ultima weapon reserved for the end of the game? So that we don't get to enjoy it thought out the game? Also, I got all the lucky emblems and all the treasure chests.... where was the reward?

And finally, why is Sora a pathetic weak child? Shouldn't he have grown up and be battle hardened by now?

Anyway, a 2/10 is well deserved!

With a story this convoluted and full, you’re not going to make it perfect. My major gripe with the game is that they just kept going and going. It’s not bad if the content isn’t the same stuff over and over again. Hearts, friends, darkness, light, Sora, Riku, Kairi, etc etc. There’s nothing that made me go “Wow, that was unexpected!”. It’s grand, its epic, its heart warming, and all that good stuff. What I’m saying is its solid and what I say next are just things that bug me personally. So lets get to it.

Sora is such a **** in this game. He dies like 3 times (who knows its hard to keep track). He can do absolutely NOTHING on his own. Sora was chosen to wield the keyblade because he was optimistic and always knew there was hope. If it wasn’t for half of the cast, it would be a completely different story that ended much sooner. Sora was a badass in Kingdom Hearts 2. He kicked the **** out of the head honcho of the Organization, and when he and Riku were fighting Xehonort, it was Sora leading the charge. The story could have been about any one of a number of people. He isn’t the badass that had the confidence to take on anyone who threatened his friends. Like, why is he crying? Why is he pleading with people? Why is he so reliant on the people around him? I get that this story is about friendship and hearts and yada yada but Sora wasn’t such a whiny wuss in the other ones. He was always up for the challenge. It’s annoying, i dont want to play as the crybaby of the group. I would have much rather been Aqua in this game.

Next, they just love stacking despair at the end of the game. Oh no, sora is dead and all the bad guys are strong. Oh no, they took Kairi. Oh no the odds are 2 against 1. Oh no they killed Kairi. Oh no kingdom hearts is open. Oh no the bad guys win. Oh no the bad guy is 13 bad guys. Like, quit having me overcome the odds that Sora was ready to give up on 3 hours ago. It was just boring by the end.

Other than that, spot on and a great addition to the Kingdom Hearts Collection.

It's not a quirk of the KH series, it's just bad direction. The lines are also kinda bad, Nomura can't write for **** he should just stick to character design.

On top of that, the story itself is just bad as it desperately tries to make sense of the many spinoff games that for some reason HAD to be relevant for the whole plot.

Gameplay wise it doesn't get better. It tries to mix together all the stupid gimmiks from the other games, making it shallow. They just had to take the gameplay from KH2 and paste it on KH3, I don't know how they were able to mess it up so bad, but then again, looking at BBS and its super-bosses, I don't know why I'm even surprised at this point.

I don't mind bad ending. As long as you tell the story good.
Why splitting the big villain story one by one but mixing them in a single fight? What sorcery is this? It feels the other one cannot blend into the same story.

So much effort to dig the gold, yet so little content to let the players feel the money they spent is worthwhile. Yes I am talking at you, the stupid Re Mind DLC, bringing more confusion to the already confused story.

After DDD, the story here becomes even more stupid. In addition, no FF characters and combat system changes where you wonder which noob at Enix had this idea. Once again Enix typically puts more emphasis on the graphics rather on the story and gameplay. KH is a Disney/FF crossover, they don't even seem to understand that.

However, regardless of the target market this is just a plainly bad game. I'm not even going to mention the story (The story revolves around the idea that Sora has inexplicably lost all his powers and needs to spend 30 hours of gameplay to get them backs so he can fight Xehanort. Great.) because 1. It's KH so it's not going to make sense anyway and 2. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the game which is what makes me to saddest of all. When I was a kid I had a piece of paper with the countdown till the release of KH2 and I would mark off the days every single day until the game finally released. To this day, KH1 and 2 are 2 of my favorite games of all time but KH just feels so far removed from the core series that I don't even feel any sense of nostalgia when I play it, it's just unrecognizable and unfortunately not in a good way.

My absolute number one issue with the game is the combat, or lack thereof. KH1 and 2 didn't have incredibly deep combat systems but they worked, they posed a challenge on higher difficulties and overall they were just fun. I played KH1 and 2 a couple of years ago and at age 20 something, I can still enjoy the combat. The combat in KH3 is insulting honestly and this is where the target market of the game really shines through. If you want it to, 80% of combat boils down to waiting for a command prompt, then you press one button and get a mini cutscene or weak mini game and suddenly everything on the screen is dead, and there isn't nearly enough variety in these mini cutscenes so they get stale after about an hour. I refused to use these special attacks at all after a certain time. Even without the special attacks, I didn't die a single time during my 10 or so hours on Proud difficulty. I'm an experienced KH player but certainly not some KH prodigy. The game is just too damn easy and it's clear the game was balanced for children.

I have similar issues with some of the world and platforming. Half of the time it barely feels like I'm doing anything. I'm stuck on a rail system and I press a button or move a stick once every few seconds. It's incredibly brain dead. But that's what the game eventually boils down to, once you strip away all the visuals the game is a essentially just a series of glorified qte's, from the combat to the platforming. Even the cutscenes are a qte because you can believe I'm trying to press the skip button as fast as possible.

Visuals. Look fine I guess. Again, the visuals went in a different direction from the originals (which is to be expected between generations of consoles) but Sora's character model has some weird plasticy look to it, almost like you're constantly stuck in Toy Story and you're still using Sora's toy costume. He doesn't quite look like Sora anymore.

Plenty of other people have mentioned this also, but there are no Final Fantasy characters. They've just been simply stripped from the game, presumably because kids in the 6-15 range have no idea who Cloud or Sid is these days. Ok that's fine whatever, the game is made for kids. What does bother me, is that this decision more than any other is a complete middle finger to OG fans of the series. The only reason to remove the FF characters is because they require resources and kids these days won't recognize them so why bother putting them in the game? Screw the OG fans right?

Positives: I genuinely find it difficult to find any positives. We actually finally got a KH3 so I guess that's a positive right? Even if they KH3 we did eventually get is a pale imitation of legendary games from the PS2 era.

I forced myself to play it through because I desperately wanted to know how the story goes on, only just to end with the main villlain redeeming hi self, on the basis of " why the hell not?!" All my Investment in previous titles were a waste of time, since nothing in this game has consequences, existing things get retconned and characters just straight up LOSE their personalities. Until after 2010 when Dream Drop Distance came out, which introduced Time travel and a new phone game which carried on the mediocre storyline additions and Kingdom Hearts 3 is a sequel from THAT, not KH2.

This game is not for newcomers since the devs expect you to have played DDD and KHUX. I got my brother into playing Kingdom Hearts to my surprise and he ended up loving KH1 and KH2, got bored with BbS and jumped into KH3 and hasnt played it since it came out - Mind you i did not express frustration to him, he just said that he really disliked the bad pacing and the boring empty big corridors of worlds with nothing in it. And that is exactly how the KH worlds are post 2010: Empty large towery areas with barely anything to do but open chests etc

Now the positives are definetly some to KH3, the graphics are good although the character models are downgraded, Kairi looks like an alternate 10 year old version of the super cool lookin KH2 version which appeared older and more realistic. But ok the battle system is amazing as usual, too floaty but still fun as always. Some character were way better written and more lively than others. One of the few characters i liked were Axel,Demyx and Vexen. It was exciting every time they were on the screen, they have the best scenes in the game along with Vanitas and the Monster inc characters imo The Unversed was a nice addition to the Monsters world and was very fitting. My favorite world by far, i ended up liking Tangled also, but not much else.

Conclusion i loved playing the first 10 hours of the game, kinda like FFXV. Then i feel like they rushed the game too much and the terrible story addition starts at the end of the game, while every single character comes back, even the ones you thought were dead. And now everyone is alive and no one can die which is a bummer. I personally feel the series ended with Kingdom Hearts 2, nothing happens after that because its just overwriting money grab with hardcore Disney restrictions and alternate timelines/time travel and unneccessary conviluted story additions.

They pressed every single character in the series into one soup just like Pirates of the Caribbean 3 did (the worst one) and ironically its the one we are forced to watch in this game. If you want to play good Kingdom Hearts games they are plenty but they all happen before 2010, you will see notable difference in quality if you exclude graphical changes for the PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was the biggest Kingdom Hearts fan. I would debate the game's story endlessly on forums, lined up at midnight to buy the first two games. But Kingdom Hearts 3 was a disappointment. First of all, they completely killed the story by bringing literally every character back to life for no reason except fanservice. Second, the gameplay has been dumbed down and is way too easy even on Proud Mode, with a bunch of flashy moves that are useless. The ending was a joke. Unfortunately, Nomura has lost his touch. And sure, the music is absolutely amazing! However, beyond that it is an honest let-down and disappointment in the story, in character development, and in playability. It just feels rushed and uncompleted (ironic for a game 5 years in the making). For starters, Square Enix cut MANY things from the game. Tetsuya Nomura stated that there would be well over 90+ hours of content, when in actuality; it’s closer to 35 -45 hours of content. You literally spend 2/3's of the entire game traversing Disney worlds and goofing around which none of it matters in the slightest and doesn't really do anything at all to progress the plot or the characters (Note: you can clearly tell which worlds they spent far more time and resources on than others. Some worlds, only get one tiny little area). On that note, the worlds that people actually wanted to fully explore in all their 4K HD glory were basically reduced to just backgrounds for cut scenes and for the plot (Realm of Darkness, Land of Departure, Keyblade Graveyard, The Final World, Scala ad Caelum, and to a lesser extent, Twilight Town). Then, all the major plot points and major stuff happens quickly and almost back-to-back in the last 1/3 of the game. Before you know it, you're fighting the final boss out of the blue and the games over. Heroes and Villains fly in and out of the story so quick that you just might miss them if you blink. The reunions of 1) Aqua, Ven, and Terra; and 2) Axel, Roxas, and Xion; are completely rushed. Basically, they are brought back at the last minute for fan service and to make sense of the plot before moving on. Hell, don't even get me started on the characters. The dialogue exchange and voice acting is good in certain places, but is often just cringy and awkward. Any many of the characters don’t even have much of a personality *ahem*…Kairi *ahem*. Speaking of which, the characters: Kairi, Lea, Riku, Aqua, Ventus, Terra, and King Mickey are now weak and useless. In fact, the Disney characters in the worlds you visit are significantly more powerful than they are. Minigames are another problem. Minigames are supposed to be fun and enjoyable challenges that offer additional rewards when added to a game for optional playability. However, that's not the case when multiple minigames are pushed into the main story and are required to progress said story. Furthermore, Square Enix made the game insanely easy, even on hard mode. Fights required little-to-no planning or preparation. I never even died once on hard mode or had to retry an encounter. Going to attractions, I understand that attractions were supposed to be cool and epic, but not when you get like three prompts for an attraction every single bloody fight. It got annoying and boring rather quick. I only used the meals once, in the final battle. I didn’t even need to use the meals because everything was too easy. Lastly, the game mechanics are still clearly broken. You can still easily button-mash X/A to win the game. Also, a player can obtain 99 Moogle Post Cards within 1 hour for only 5,000 Munny; they can easily obtain level 99 within an hour; and they can easily and quickly get 999,999 Munny.

*sighs* Look, it’s an okay game. It’s fine to like a game and it’s fine to dislike a game. There are many people who liked KH3 and many who didn’t. It has good and bad qualities. However, you do have to recognize and realize all of its flaws and shortcomings. Because many of us who are long-time hardcore KH fans and who grew up with the series will tell you, KHI and KHII were are significantly longer and better than KHIII.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kingdom hearts 3 should only be played by fans of the series. Anyone else will be lost even if you listened to that character with an annoying voice tell you a short summary of the story.

The story was really bad in a lot of the game but I liked that it was closing all the loops in it. Almost all of the Disney worlds were badly written and didn't have any flow.

In the Hercules world, the Danny Devito character doesn't talk and just smirks and smile while he was always the talkative one which was so weird to see. Also in the Hercules world, after you save the little girl, she bends over like she's bowing as a thank you. To me the people who made the game did that because of their asian culture. I personally feel that one shouldn't change the way a western movie is, they should just be trying to imitate it the best that they can.

The toy story world is also really bad. It felt like someone wrote the script for the characters without actually watching the movies. And, they were all written really badly. The levels were pretty bad game design wise and they didn't feel real. And a lot of the toys were so asian influenced with mecha dinosaur things and anime-like plushes and dolls.

Tangled was really good, I must say.

Frozen was just "Let's just put the 2 songs that everyone likes and were basically done with this story." The pacing of the story was really bad for this one as even I was lost at what was happening.

Why is pirates of the carribean in the game? And, why is it one of the last Disney worlds? And, collecting crabs to upgrade your ship??? Are you kidding me??? I kept telling myself when playing this world "wtf am I playing, this is a kingdom hearts game? Collecting crabs?" The ship part was pretty cool but it felt like that was the only reason why they had to make this world to play. Also, Sora has bigger problems to worry about but all this guy wants to do is go on an adventure and be a pirate. Inconsistent writing yet again. Unrealistic writing for a character, especially for a main character.

Big hero was done probably the best in my opinion. The only real problem that I had was that a lot of the lip sync felt like it wasn't matching. It felt like they didn't even try and just kept the asian lip sync animation and just put the dub over it. But this is actually what happens a lot in the game.

I want to talk about the good things. I liked the gameplay as it was fun to play. I liked a lot of the models and the design of the worlds. The music was also really good.

I would like to talk about the bad stuff.

The story could have ended with these characters but they clearly want to milk the series. The problem that I have is that they couldn't save Kairi when they were all around her so what makes Sora think that he can save her? All the bad guys ever do is teleport and take people. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Too much teleporting lore dumps. That's literally all they ever do in this series since kh2 I believe. It's bad writing, stop.

The models are inconsistent with some models looking near perfect to their movie counterpart like Mike from monster Inc, where main characters like Donald and goofy having noticeable sharp edges of the model. It's bad. Just look at some of the characters that you meet and you'll see. Like why does Sully look so bad? The hair on him is laughable. Also the witch from the sleeping beauty looks so bad and she did nothing the entire game. Waste of characters and her and Pete are absolutely useless.

Too much of Sora saying how friends can do anything and stuff. Its gotten to the point where I am so tired of hearing him say those cheesy lines. I'm so sick of hearing him just trying to be friends with everyone and being like all we need is friends to save the day when it never actually does.

Models look weird in general for a lot of the characters. Sora looks fine as in next gen but Riku looks weird and a lot of the other characters do as well. The design of the models in dream drop were perfect. How could they not have just done the same thing but make them appear older? Also, I don't like their clothes design. It's stupid.

And that reminds me. Sora questions Donald and goofy on why they look like monsters. Bad writing 101, cause we already went through this before in the past games where it was explained that their magical clothes changes them to fit in the other worlds.

The voice acting was bad in a lot of areas of the game.

All npcs sound quiet. Also there was no option to increase dialogue voices, music, or sfx.

The link system is dumb and the characters look holographic which is dumb too. When I use stitch or Ariel, I expect them to be accurate to their original design. Because these skills are linked to mp, the entire link skill is useless.

I used the 1st gummy ship the entire playthrough.

They should have ended the series.

I'm never going to buy another KH game again. I'm done with the milking of the series.

gameplay unbalanced the worlds are not accurate but the story is the worst thing. The story is as poorly written & stupid as ever. It's such a tangled mess of bloated, unnecessary nonsense now, the writers can't even keep track of their own characters. The usual incoherent gibberish of "darkness, hearts, darkness, friendship" is all there but now it's more repetitive than ever.
The dialogue is still poorly written. World endings are usually the worst.
The 'humour' in this game consists of characters laughing like morons at something thats not remotely funny as the camera pans out.
The story is so phoned in, even the characters start phoning it in.
Characters go from being total powerhouses to complete drooling potatoes in cutscenes.
There's one cutscene in the final battle where Sora actually gets knocked unconscious from another character stumbling & falling over on him. I'm not joking. The ending is complete fan service trash & the main villain completely does a 180 on his character in the end and it's laughable and not not believable.

I'd like to start by saying I'm a long time kh fan, I've played and enjoyed every game except the phone game. This is the worst entry, other than 358/2 days.

    Pros:
    -its pretty
    -good music
    - Terra reveal made a lot of sense and was actually very cool to me
-I get to stop waiting for it to come out

    Cons:
    - terrible irrelevant story except maybe the last few hours. There should be a feature that let's you skip to the very end, as nothing worth noting happens before the keyblade graveyard.
-unrecognizable characters: Sora is as dumb as a bucket of rocks and goofy is the smartest character
    - poorly implemented, unbalanced, and op combat distractions
-Twilight town is one whole room
    - Pooh should have been scrapped, his world has 3 of the same minigame with only slight variations
    - Leveling keyblades had so much potential but fell flat
    - Sora had the power of waking all along... seriously... seriously?
    - worlds are a chore, and not a fun one
    - the dialogue is just plain awful
    - Kairi pretends to be a keyblade wielder and then pulls a Kairi and needs saving again
    - Combat is boring because its too easy and lacks cool combos and finishers and overall gameplay variety like kh2 had
    - way too easy, no I haven't tried playing it blindfolded yet but I've heard its slightly harder that way.
    - absolutely trash post game, some mini games, some battle gates (with a single post game heartless) and some synthesis (why bother?) Kh1 had super bosses that took a lot of prep (making synthesis meaningful), and at least kh2 had a coliseum and Sephiroth fight pre-final mix. Getting the platinum trophy for this game was just plain agonizing.
    - The game game wastes too much time trying to explain past events
    - Watching kairi and axel talk about nothing in a random field from time to time was refreshing (not) aren't they supposed to be training? (not that it will pay off anyway)
    - should have sprinkled organization fights throughout the game, as they were supposedly the antagonists. Instead, they are just all thrown together at once. ( I know it was because the whole keyblade war thing, but we could have fought them and not killed them before the final fights)
    - everyone comes back except for all of the FF characters because Nomura added too many characters before the final chapter of the dark seeker ark to fit them all
    - playing as riku was a big deal pre-release, and a big disappointment post-realease
-Characters begin to fly in left and right with little in-game explanation
    - I could go on, but I'll stop now.

...This game gets a four from me for the music and graphics, virtually everything else is awful. I knew KH3 likely wouldn't live up to expectations, but I didn't expect it to stray so far from what made the other games good. I legitimately enjoyed playing Aqua's 0.2 more than KH3, I'm being as honest as I can be. Hate to say it but i'm out, deuces Kingdom Hearts fandom - I really don't care about KH4 and I'm not going to wait until 2030 to be disappointed again after the train wreck that is KH3.

The first 80% of the game is total rubbish which doesn't Link much to the actual story. Graphic is definitely better but the story is a total bummer. = S

It did not get better. I wish I had a camera to record the expression I was making. by the time I got to the conversation with hades, I was literally , yes LITERALLY dumbstruck. I just had no words for how tragic this game is. I mean, I just don't even... what the HELL was that thing they flashed on the screen saying "kingdom hearts II.9 HD" ???!?! WHAT THE F*?!?! I... WHAT?!?! That's not even going into, why the hell they were in the block ship and then all of a sudden they say they are stuck on the HIGHWAY? excuse me?? what??!!?? That is not even to mention bug eyed merlin who was suddenly giving the characters a dressing down with NO EXPLANATION as to what in the hell they were doing there and what the whole premise is... I'm still trying to make sense of any of it and I wonder if it's even worth trying. seriously, if you're a kingdom hearts fan (first i have to ask "why??") then you will probably love this but you probably already have it so why are you even reading this? if you're not a kingdom hearts fan, then stay away from this utter trash.

What they had to do was just upgrade KH2 with better graphics and insert more story. Yet they decided to make the battle mechanics even more confusing and completely remove FF characters as if they and their worlds never existed in the KH universe. Totally disappointed with this garbage.

The game left me baffled. On one hand you have a very complex story which you only completely follow if you played all the previous parts of the series. Me myself playing only the main title was quite confused at times and wish I played more parts to get the small things which make the game probably more enjoyable. That said you would think this game is for long waiting fans and it will be challenging and intelligent...but it's not
On the other hand the game is directed at new player especially children as it's a one button smash fest to get through the game without any real challenge and full of quite ridiculous colourful attacks. The dialogues are very dull, cringy and slow, making me think that it's for a younger audience to be able to follow.
I hope ff VII remake will be made better as nostalgia alone cannot keep the fanbase going

I'm a huge fan of the Kingdom Hearts franchise, that's why I was so upset when this lead to disappointment. Clunky controls, repetitive combat, extremely long cut scenes, and nonsensical objectives. The plot in this is a mess. I'm 30 plus hours in and feel compelled to finish it, even though, I really have no desire to.

Stilted Dialogue, Convaluted story that is honestly just ridiculously bad. Combat is not challening and there is no point in a levelling system if the game never actually presents a challenge. Look stunning, but it just has no depth. Could not play past the 3rd world as I found myelf incredibly bored and dissapointed. tgd

If something suprissed me when I first played Kingdom Hearts was the absolutely incredible good RPG desing that game has. Of course I was not aware, I was only a child. However, I found a challenge in that game. Nearly ten years later I still find this challenge and I am now able to relate this challenge with the desing of the game. The mechanics of the combat gameplay, the need of master the parry, the differences between the several types of heartless are things that I felt they were missing in KH2. In the second game, the combat evolved to a more-dinamicall combat, where action was the main star. Nevertheless, the combat had some deep needed in this type of games, although the rest of the game design was quite poorer, deleting some things like bactracking or platforming.

When KH3 was announced, I saw that the way of this saga has been directed to a hack & slash game. However, I wanted to check it, so I played it. Unfortunately, I was right. The combats are plain, incredibily easy even in the highest difficult mode. The rewards, in shape of chest, are slightly hidden in some turn of the corridor, not needing any ability that you unlock afterwards or some hability with platforms. And my main worry about this game, the story I wanted to know because I grow up wiht this saga, wasted. After a climax in the last world of KH:DDD I expected some tension between protagonists and antagonists. However, Nomura continue letting us down with filler Disney worlds, when the acts of the protagonists does not matter and where some random Organization XIII foe appears to make a empty and boring speech. All of this repeated until the last world, when the story that a game of 30h wanted to tell is rushed in 4h. And if you thought that the plain gameplay and the extermely-bad told story are the only things that could make this game boring you are wrong. The pace of the game is terrible. The worlds are usually composed by tasks consisting in going from point A to B and from B to C and so on, with some enemies in between and of course, a lot of cinematics. Boring, void-in-content cinematics. The pace is broken to hear some essay from an Organization XIII member or to see a scene of the Disnet movie.

The pros of the "game": First of all, the most evident one. The graphics. Awesome in the Disney worlds. The artistic part of the game is nearly a 10. It makes you feel like watching a Pixar film and not only beacuse you only play to slash the X and triangle buttons. Besides that, the gummy ship part has been also enhanced. I found it a good choice and it is fun to play if you do not care about the 100%, but that is something that usually happens in the games.

To sum up, Kingdom Hearts III is no the RPG some of us fell for it. The saga has been evolved to a animation movie hack and slash. Moreover, Disney has become the most important part of the game, acumulating the biggest part of the story and even introducing some Sora's habiliities just for merchadising.

A boring game full of cutscenes that holds no excitement or purpose towards the Disney World. I honestly should have played final fantasy to avoid the let down of kingdom hearts 3. what a giant **** show of a game. There are some attributes that make the game fun, but 80% of the game is being used to fill story arches that don't relate to the Disney story lines in any way. In kingdom hearts 2, Sora was involved in the worlds that he visited, now it just feels like he was along for the ride. In KDH3 None of the world's story archs changed to match sora's presence.... Sora just laughed or cried at whatever Disney movie scene reenactment he saw, No emotional or physical involvement. ANDDDD Guess how many Disney bosses you get to fight in the entire game? 2......Bosses. and the bosses u do fight? WEAK. every boss battle u get, is weak and uninteresting without any involvement in any Disney world u go to (besides Davy Jones but who really cares about him anyway) The gameplay got repetitive and boring after all of Sora's finishing moves were multi-target nukes that destroyed every enemy without balance. After beating the game in 26 hours, the story was rushed and unsatisfying with little care. Square Enix slapped KDH3 with as much information as it could to finish the story at the very end of the game, rushed and boring. 2/5

I would have liked a tighter combat system. it was almost impossible to perform any sort of block move against the heartless when there was so many on the screen. The bosses at the end of the game should have been spread out throughout the game with a final conclusion at the end, but manly of the worlds leave you to usually fight a large heartless as the boss. After it got exhausting and unexciting. Returning characters seems like huge plot hole. but its more like the director just decided i want all these characters back so their back with some dumb reasoning behind it to justify their return. This game feels like a game that no one wanted to make. While the entire kingdom hearts storyline is confusing on its own to end things like this feels more like a push to remove older fans to bring in the newer fans.

In KH1 and KH2 you traveled to a bunch of Disney worlds to fight of the ever increasing threat of the heartless. This spans multiple games and each one had a unique story with some of them following the story of the movie (In KH2) in KH3 they continue to follow this formula but do so in a way that seems to ignore Sora. I felt as though the game wanted to showcase the best that Disney has to offer, but by making sure they and only they can be in the spotlight.

The gameplay itself is the most refined part of the game with fighting feeling really good and whacking bad guys over the head feeling even better. I just never felt a good reason to be doing it. The story was lackluster, the character's motives were dull, the music and voice acting all took a huge nose dive.

I started this review by saying this feels like a game no one wanted to make. The absence of squareenix characters seems to make this more of a Disney project than a combination of Square and Disney. It just didn't complete the experience that many people were waiting for it. They gave us a decade of backstory and build-up to end with this that feels more like "Your time is up. Make way for the new." This is idea is even reflected in the games when Disney classics are basically trying to be pushed away and out of the spotlight for the new ones like Frozen and Tangled (two of the worst worlds because of issues earlier stated.)

This game accomplished what the greatest threat in the game series has been trying to do this entire time.

    Kingdom Hearts 3 is heartless.

So, I was excited for this third game expecting that in the year 2019, that the game would be bigger and better than the original released 17 years ago - nope.

First issue, was the story. How stupid and convoluted was this moronic story? Extremely. It's a joke. The voice acting is subpar, and every cutscene is cringy, with awkward pauses between speaking characters. I literally had to skip every single cutscene. Not to mention the loading screens... Then they just cram every boss battle at the end of the game, so that you literally fight everyone of these guys clones, one after the other, killing them one by one. Why introduce these characters, building them, only to remove them in the most anticlimactic way?

Second, was the choice of worlds, and how short the overall game is. There is really just eight full worlds, with them being Olympus, Twilight Town, Toy Box, Kingdom of Corona, Monstropolis, Arendelle, The Caribbean, and San Francisco. It's amazing that with all the Disney stories they had access to, these are the places they chose.

The game just feels so much shallower than the first game, and to be sure of this, I went back and played the first game to see if it was maybe nostalgia, and perhaps I was mistaken, nope. In the original game there were no less than 13 worlds - Destiny Island, Traverse Town, Wonderland, Olympus Coliseum, Deep Jungle, Agrabah, Monstro, Halloween Town, Atlantica, Neverland, and Hollow Bastion.

Anyways, I'd save my money until it's time for a sale. I wouldn't play for than $30 for this game. It's too late for me, but perhaps I can save you some disappointment, and at least $30.

Most of the game is cutscenes. The funny thing is that you basically move forward 2 steps and you get a cutscene. Then you fight aaaaand another cutscene. Storytelling is awful - unnecessary complicated without any straight goals. Feels like a mashup of scripts written by different people. Even if you are up to date with KH story you will feel uncomfortable.
The good part of the game is climate and well-representation of disney/pixar worlds. Characters looks and feels like they came from these famous animations. Graphics changes according to the world you are in. Above that you have some really well designed levels as well as really bad ones. Either of them have a lot of unused areas, like it wasn't even finished.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been looking forward to this game for years... I've played almost every part of the series and can definitely say that this is the most disappointing game of them all!
The fights are too easy and I get that they don't want to frustrate any kids playing this game, but that's what lower difficulty levels are there for. Think of your grown-up fans, please.
Speaking of kids: Kingdom Hearts is a game for kids, but fans of the franchise started playing almost 20 years ago. The series has to be balanced especially when it comes to the story-telling.
Boy, oh boy, the story is soooo bad. The first 20 hours into the game lack everything! You stroll through worlds without a real objective, nothing ever seems to be at stake. Sora is supposed to learn a power of which nobody really seems to know what it is, but Mickey and Riku apparently have it. Their storyline is far more interesting, but half of it happens off screen and the bits that are shown are spinning in circles. Same goes for the movie-stories in the worlds. I don't want to see the whole Frozen-song re-animated!!! Show me more about Riku or Kairi or get on with the freakin' story alltogether. There is no feeling of progress and at the end it seems so rushed and confusing. First, they explain everything they plan on doing and all of a sudden everybody dies, then they don't and we seemingly travel back in time, but not to try a different approach this time, no, we are saved by a higher entity that appears out of nowhere. Then people that were believed to be lost show up and nobody knows how they did it, not even the characters themselves. And here comes the biggest logical error in my opinion: Xehanort explains how he needs 13 darknesses and 7 lights. So wouldn't it make sense to avoid bringing him 7 lights??? Why do we try to get 7 lights and do all the work for him? For a long time, I was honestly convinced that Master Yen Sid is secretly a pawn of Xehanort. It makes no sense.
Way to go, SquareEnix, after screwing up the storytelling in FF15, you also ruined the story of KH.
I could go on and on, but I don't want to lose another day to rage on Kingdom Hearts.
I love the previous games, they did a great job, especially with Birth by sleep. That was a game that managed to embrace an older audience as well.
I don't get how people love this game... I am so unsatisfied with everything... despite the looks, the graphics are great and that's why this game gets 1 and not 0 points.

It's lacking content the previous games had. The story has plot holes big enough to drive a bus through. I cannot believe I waited 13 years for this. This was a middle finger to everyone who has ever enjoyed a KH game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a long time die hard fan of the series, this is one ot the worst installments to date. What was supposed to be the epic end of the Xehanort saga turned out to be a very cheezy, happy and cheerful rush to get this story out of the way in order to further the later added lore and build expectations for the next game.
The game consists mainly of cut scenes, some of which look horrible and were probably made for ps3 while others are stunning but long.
KH3 is way to easy, features absolutly no fun boss fight, no extra boss fights, some final fantasy characters but not to the extent that we would like to see ( im talking moggles but no sign of cloud, sephiroth etc. ) The end boss fights were bundled together with no regard to the individual stories of the org. XIII members and the hardest "extra boss" is just a heartless with extra steps.
I am very disappointed as i expected a way darker kingdom hearts with a thought out story, instead i find myself annoyed with countless pointless minigames and frustrated with the way such a story is built and hyped for 13 years only to be shrugged and rushed off like this.
The Kingdom hearts story never made sense but it never made sense in a way that makes sense. Kh3 just doesent make sense even with kingdom hearts logic.
The fighting system is good but not great, the way magic flows out of Sora looks stunning.
Form changing keyblades are a great idea and fun for a few minutes but i miss the drive system of KH2 and the option to control myself when and how i would like to change my form. The excessive use of **** disney rides shoved down my throat is just annoying.
The worlds look good but many follow the original disney movie to the letter making you sit through just a remake of the movie rather than original fun story and where there are many options to present a boss character from the disney world, kh instead gives you another heartless boss fight.

In short, Disney probably **** this game up the way they did with Star Wars and other franchises by breathing down Nomuras neck. It looks great but plays horribly. I was a fan since 2002 and have loved every game up to this point. Never again, i am very sad.

The combat is painfully easy even on Proud (and downright boring on Lvl 1 runs due to how you have to abuse the mechanics). I've gone through some fights just tapping cross and occasionally triangle without moving and came out perfectly fine. The addition of the Disney rides was reprehensible. I have to intentionally skip over them every time they show up as a command because they give you free wins.

The pacing is pretty bad. There's only a handful of times that I have been able to go from fight to fight without sitting through a long winded cutscene that ends up being meaningless. It got so bad I had to start skipping some of them because I found myself looking at my phone anyway. That's not even to mention some of the strange pauses during the dialogue that feel super unnatural. I honestly asked myself at one point, if they wanted to make an interactive movie, why didn't they just release it on Netflix?

The gummy portion being open exploration is almost a nice addition.. until I realized that, in space, I can't point my ship straight up and down. So when I'm hunting items...I have to slowly spiral up and down to change my elevation. It's 2019, flying controls should not be this bad. Especially if the main/only open exploration is centered around them.

The amount of minigames is way too high. If they had focused even 20% away from this I feel like the gameplay could have been improved.

Also not a fan of the cooking meals thing. I didn't get KH3 to play Monster Hunter, especially when the buffs are unnecessary as Sora is OP. In fact, the design of the game makes me question why I got it at all.

I have had more fun grinding forms in KH2FM than I have had at any point in KH3.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A lazy mess of a game. The gameplay cares more about being flashy then any sort of sense or skill, the execution is poor to the point that the 'acting' looks terrible and amateurish despite being cg, and there really isn't a story to speak of. The 'story' is a short and directionless pile of random tropes with another short and directionless pile of random tropes standing in for Sora. What makes it all the more tragic, is that the game had some good ideas and a LOT of potential, but it's clear that Disney cared more about advertising to you and protecting the image of every one of their properties in a blind fervor then making anything decent and it cost this game any sense of identity.
As mentioned before, the game is really short, but while disappointing, it's also kind of a blessing as it spares us more awful cutscenes that butcher the characters we've grown to love -heroes and villains alike. The most disappointing part of the game has got to be Kairi. Anyone who was looking forward to her being a keyblade wielder after kh2 will be disappointed as she spends the whole game training only to do nothing in the final fight and be damsel-in-distressed and partly fridged. By the end this game felt like a betrayal of everything the past games have built up...
As a game, it is sub-par. As kingdom hearts 3, it is downright terrible...
    For those interested, a quick list of my complaints about the game;
    terrible writing including
    -tropes for personality
    -out of place comedy
-0 subtlety or quiet moments -everything is overdone
    -sora understands nothing
    -tropes for events
    -sora's forced mc syndrome
    -terrible character motivation
    -and much more
    poorly remaking Disney films wholesale
only sora plays any major role anywhere
the utter departure from the darker themes of kh for sunshine and rainbows
unexplained, unaddressed random deus ex TIMETRAVEL in the final battle
villeins constantly showing up only to talk with the mc and be cryptic
maleficent constantly showing up to be inconsequential and hype the NEXT game
all villeins -including past final bosses- being utterly un-threatening
    really short
all worlds being one and done
flowmotion is interesting, but clunky and pointless
attractions show up all the time and can't be turned off
    loading screen fake-twitter
    no skill required for battle
hyper protectiveness of Disney ips getting in the way of the story (like donald calling every princess randomly strong like 3 times)
missing the point of almost every story told
no connection between worlds by plot and nothing being accomplished
each villein getting a redemption scene upon loss, even ansem
buzz gets lectured to about friendship despite being absolutely right about sora
awful directing, scenes go on far too long often
Constant and overdone use of the sparkle effect
    dire lack of ff characters
general lack of polish on everything but the graphics
and a lot more that i can't think of off the top of my head.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. These reviews are all paid for and are incorrect, not to mention read the same. This is by far the most disappointing game in the KH series.

If you choose not to fight every enemy that spawns you will be mainly watching 5min cut scenes every 20 seconds of gamplay walking (ToyStory is where you'll feel this really kick into high gear). in total my game has 18 hours saved and I watched every cut scene (theres 10.3 hours of cut scenes). This means that I spent 8 hours playing a game and basically a whole day watching an animated movie in which the plot isn't explained, but seems forced in the last 2 hours of the game.

The visuals are an amazing improvement however the game chucks gimmicks and tries to distract you from poor game design. For instance reaction commands that aren't cohesive, worlds that are one or two rooms (theres a few of them). Worlds where you do the same thing continuously (I had to climb Elsas mountain 3 times before I could get to the top), the most exhausting end game tasks in any game ("lucky symbols or mickey shapes that blend into the world or can't be seen unless from certain angles are nothing like trinity symbols in kh1 etc.) and the least amount of "boss battles" in of the main games.

I literally thought I was a third - half the way finished the game when suddenly it ended. This is a waste of money and im sure the producing studio will feel proud they wasted 2 days of my life in a game with zero nostalgia, painful cut scenes and minimal play after being a die hard fan for 17 years.

The worlds were boring and repetitive and i didn't even care to return to any of them. I struggled to get through this, not because it was difficult but because i just wanted to stab my ears off anytime someone mentioned hearts or the importance of friendship. The attempts to modernize the game by adding twitter like load screens and the gummiphone were so half baked and so lame, if they wanted to modernize KH they should have spend more time updating the story telling and gameplay to todays standards. Also where was the sound effects department when it came to the cut scenes? i noticed this in the trailer and thought it was just a stylistic choice, but no there is simply no SFX in the cutscenes which makes this game feel even more hollow and empty like the Nobodies or what ever tf they are called. The combat was flashy and varied for those who didnt just want to button mash to get through a level but the one thing that angered me to no end was the disney attraction summons, they were so frequent and annoying, that i felt someone strong armed Square to put them in to promote the park which didnt work and they were not fun to use. Also WHERE THE HELL IS LEON and the rest oft the FINAL FANTASY CREW. Did KH forget that FF was the reason alot of gamers bought the game in the first place?

Yes the visual and animations were great and the gameplay is solid and pretty to look at, thats why i cant give it a 0, but pretty graphics don't make a game great. I know the kids that play wont understand this concept because all they care about is graphics. I never thought i would say this about a KH game but I really hate this game, it was so hard to get through this. Tetsuya Nemura should not go anywhere near FF7 remake. Im afraid this man is an amazing character artist but a hack video game director.

    -Outstanding OST, as usual.
-Visually breath-taking. -Aesthetically very pleasing, especially in certain battles. -Playability is alright. Not excellent, but still good. Cons: -Game's too easy, even in Hard mode. Sora is OP from the very beginning. -Small number of worlds, and many of them are terribly SMALL or unbalanced. Twilight Town isn't half as big as it used to be.

-Lack of keyblades to choose from. There are just a few and they all come from Disney worlds, except from those you receive from pre-orders and the sort.
-The treatment some characters get is HORRENDOUS. I want this review to be spoiler free, but to name a few: Kairi, Vexen, Roxas, Vanitas, Xehanort, Saix, Xion and Naminé are either inconsistent, invisible or completely forgotten throughout the whole game. Which is supposed to be a game that brought them together.
-The final hours of gameplay are horribly written. Seriously. It's all pure eye-candy and fan service. Most things happen without an explanation. Kingdom Hearts has had plot and storytelling issues before, sure, but this one takes it to a new level.
-Maybe too many cutscenes. I'm not complaining, though, but they also add to that "filling space" feeling.
-No Final Fantasy characters. Not a single one.
-On the whole, the game feels incomplete.

If you have never played any kingdom hearts games before this might not be a bad game for you, its production values as far and graphics and animations are superb, and while the combats absurdly easy that does mean literally anyone can play it. You won't have any idea whats actually going on but that might be for the best, just enjoy the Disney as best you can.

If you have played kingdom hearts games and liked them before now, this game should be an insult to you directly proportional to the number of games you have actually played in the series so far. The resolutions of the various plots that have been built up for years at this point are so forced and aimless that it is beneath the level of fan-fiction. This plot ruins and wastes literally everyone involved in it be they heroes or villains. And with no meat to the game play to back it all you are left with in this game is a pretty coat of paint.

Normally I'd feel like saying something generous about how you might be able to enjoy this game and you shouldn't feel ashamed of that, but let me just say this - if you have been enjoying the story of kingdom hearts up till now despite its many many issues , then this game really should not be for you.

On the whole the game looks amazing but it is riddled with many things that make it an unsatisfying experience to veterans of the series. And lets face it, the game was meant for fans of the franchise as its complicated story thats been playing out for over a decade is far from welcoming to new players.

The game has a series of movies that use pics and scenes from previous entries to tell "the story so far" But in my opinion this is just bad story telling. Nuggets of the past experiences should be told through the story, not in a movie you need to watch before starting the game.

On the subject of the story the KH story line is rather sparse. Sora and friends are gearing up to beat the big baddy Xehonort and his 13 darknesses, and well thats pretty much it. Sora is sent to visit Disney/Pixar worlds not to protect them from the heartless or anything, but just "to reclaim his lost power" Meaning the game is literally saying, "just level up for the final boss." This makes Sora's visits to the worlds less meaningful, he shows up and partakes in a loose telling of the movie he is in but had no true stake in it. Organization 13 members show up to spout exponential nonsense before buggering off, and only serve to keep Sora on his task of "Leveling up". There are also less worlds than previous entries, and though the worlds are much bigger there filled with a lot of empty space. The world also has many "invisible walls" that make what looks to be a massive open area nothing more than a series of corridors and square rooms.

Then there's the combat, which to me was one of the games biggest problems. (and in a KH game combat is like 90% of the whole thing) Its simply too damn easy, the new console power allow for hordes of baddies to wipe out but the game turns fights into elaborate cut scenes taking the player out of the action. Attraction flow attacks were the worst offender IMO as they were usable in just about every skirmish and had the power to destroy all enemies in the area. I also found an acessory in Herc's world that allowed Sora to use the Waterza finisher that is a tier 4 spell capable of wiping out any enemy that didn't flat out absorb the element. Even in Proud mode the game was incredibly easy, enemies seemed less threatening than previous entries and more like punching bags to mash the x button to. Past entries like KH2 had a proud mode/critical mode that were a real challenge, forcing players to think before acting rather than KH3 that lets you win by spamming attraction flows and such.

Finally the ending was very unsatisfying to me. KH3 was to be the final chapter in the "Dark seeker saga" and it didn't really deliver the answers fans wanted. There are also parts of the story one can simply miss, for example in one area there was a dialog between Sora/Namine (the only interaction between them) that can be completely missed mainly because the design of the area and thing you are supposed to interact with were hard to see.

Finally since the game took so long to make many of the original voice actors have aged beyond the characters, making them sound very off. Other voice talents such as Lenard Nimoy and Christopher Lee passed away, leaving their rolls to be filled by new actors who sound quite different than the previous game. I know this wasn't something they could avoid its just Sad. Another issue they could have avoided is the exclusion of the Final fantasy characters. They played a big roll in past entries but aside from moogle shops and some easter egg appearances from the series's monsters/summons all the FF characters are just gone, which is a huge blow to the game as part of its original charm was that the characters could exist along side of the disney/KH crowd.

On the whole KH3 was disappointing on many many levels, with its lack of challenge and story that seemed rather hollow. (the KH story not disney/pixar world story) the game just let me down over and over again. DLC is rumored to be coming but to me that's just bad. This is a AAA title and if DLC is the only way to get more closer or story it's hard not to see it as a cash grab. The game took way too long to make to be what it is, and that, is truely dissapointing.

It feels like it’s there to merely hit checkboxes. Ultimately, the game is deeply unsatisfying, filled with nonsensical choices, and recycled assets and ideas.

The story is weak. Characters are less than one dimensional and Sora has been flanderized into an idiot. Try to describe some members of the organization, their personalities and goals. Nobody is relatable. Nobody is a threat. Nobody has any goals that they stick by except for the final villain but he’s so passionless in this game and the stakes are so unclear that all tension is reduced to nothing. Most things technically get explained like ticking off a box, but it’s disappointing and boring with entirely too many words. With the amount of plot the game has to resolve, it does so in the most dry, expository way. It’s framed flatly, spoken robotically and there is hardly any emotion from anybody.

The gameplay is stylish, shallow, and can be divided into two pieces: exploration and combat. Exploration is passable, but there is little interactivity and things to find compared to previous games. Mainly you find treasure chests and take pictures of Mickey Mouse heads, that’s it. Some are creative and fun, but most are tedious because some of the levels are too wide and cluttered. Sora, Donald and Goofy can sometimes indicate when you’re near one, but only a few and I’ll be damned if I’m scouring an entire city looking for small things.
The game attempts a lot of genre hopping and each world usually has one extra type of gameplay involved. There is cooking, shooting, rhythm, collection, sailing, bust-a-move puzzles, platforming, and rail shooting sections. It does none of these things well and most of it isn’t engaging because it’s too simple or controls badly, but the combat-oriented ones are passably fleshed out.
The combat takes minimal effort to do impressive looking moves but the limited amount means they get old and dull quick. The canned animations are a substitute for actual skill and depth. There is very little customization to be had as you can equip almost all the skills without adding boosts so the RPG elements are mainly a façade.

The game is far too easy. Even on its hardest difficulty it offers no challenge until a weird difficulty spike at the very very end but this is more due to the controls not being as tight as they used to be. The combat is too chaotic and inconsistent with many allies and lots of unthreatening mobs. Particle effects either obscure the whole screen or are a laughable puff in the wind. Contributing to it and new to the game are attractions which are hyper moves that take the form of Disney classic amusement park rides. There are only five and they are entirely too strong and too common. Eventually I started skipping enemies because it was so boring and I had no incentive to fight other than seeing the story end. That's a death knell for your game when you have no incentive to fight.

The music is a complete disappointment. Some of the Disney tracks are okay if you even notice them, but the rest are merely remixes of previous game’s themes. Kingdom Hearts 3 brings nothing significant of its own to the table. Compared to the works of genius the previous games were, this is a travesty. Voice acting and sound are mediocre at best, except for Xehanort, he’s awful.

Kingdom Hearts is known for its crossover elements between Disney and Final Fantasy. Some final fantasy characters were significant to the plot and offered bonus gameplay opportunities. Part of the fun was the mystery of who you would encounter, when, where, and how. What combinations would we find? All final fantasy characters are conspicuously absent with no explanation.

There’s more, so much more that is weird about this game, but I’m tired. Maybe this is my fault, because I did expect strides to be made in the same vain that Kingdom Hearts 2 did for Kingdom Hearts 1. But is that really so much to ask for in this series? After how long they had to make this game, is what we got really what everybody wanted? Could they have done no better than this with all the power and weight Square Enix and Disney can throw around?

Kingdom Hearts 3 has all the check boxes of a standard triple AAA experience; it looks fine, plays like a spectacle, tries to be epic, but it’s grossly unsatisfying and at times, boring. For being the resolution to a story 17 years in the making, it’s a failure. As an action/adventure/rpg game it’s slightly below average as it tries to do everything rather than focus on a few things to do well. It’s unfortunate how little this game carries its own identity. I’d avoid this game or wait until it's cheap.

    >characters interaction , aside from the badies, is bad and bland. ventus and roxas just gaze t each other like for 5 seconds... AND THAT IT. it feels like octopath traveler tier of scam
    >ending is absolute garbage

    >the important cut scenes at the climax of the game are stupid, almost everyone stands still while something else happen

The easiest way to describe it is, this game was never intended to have a story this long when it was first made the writers weren’t expecting to come back a dozen more times with story updates, and it is obvious. The game has a great mechanic for this in the “Disney” franchising as they can just have the disney element of any given world add a new chunk of story and dialogue that is self contained and will be solved within that same world. The problem with this is that the story is heavily reliant on a movie that many players have probably scene. Its best described by “Video Game Dunkey” as “Watching a Disney movie where someone fast forwards through the story and stops at a few select scenes, but the in game characters tell you what you missed”. Im going to go so far as to say this game is the absolute “Worst Video Game Story Ever”. - Straight up 0/10

Game Play: Side - We will be splitting this in to two parts, side and main content. For the side content I am talking all things not combat and story involved. The game has a major amount of things to do that come off as mini games or optional events. The returning champion here is the “Gummi” ship, a portion that plays like a starfox style rail shooter in SPACE… Vastly improved from the previous games, this is now a free exploration shooter similar in feel to bring the classic “asteroid” into a modern 3D game. Exploration, leveling, bosses, missions and hidden secrets (not all that secret) it’s more flushed out, but its also “required” if you want the Ultima weapon and a Platinum trophy. I know this will effect some people but im fairly neutral to this, it features the hardest boss fight in the game and is not bad but its just not Kingdom Hearts and it kind of impacted the level of immersion you could feel with the actual game. The smaller side and mini games are vast but not as flushed out. You have; Cooking with Remy from Ratatouille, snowboarding in Arandell, Playing Superman 64 in SanFransokyo (who would try to replicate Superman 64 what were you thinking). Dancing with Rapunzel, Mech combat in Toy Story, bejeweled in 100 acre wood, Sailin the Carribean. They range from tedious to fun with the most personal joy coming from being a pirate and the gummi missions. Sadly they were all a little too easy and had some simplistic and one dimensional mechanics and just lacked substance.

    Game Play: Main -
No major complaints, it is quite enjoyable, flushed out, and involved despite using almost 2 buttons exclusively. The effects and flow of the combat is nothing to scoff at and many developers are far behind KH3 when it comes to fluid combat. The issue is… it’s too easy. Playing on “Proud”, as hard as it gets, i ran into no combat issues. It wasn’t until the very end i realized i had never died in the game. You have two things that trigger before you die that prevent death and full heal your character. It makes everything just a little too easy. In previous titles there was a plethora of Post game bosses that got quite difficult and even when playing the remakes they stayed hard. Despite this in KH3 there is one secret boss post game and he is a laughably easy event. I clicked through the warning window and came out victorious on my first try with 0 preparation and 30 levels below max level of 99. I wasn’t using the ultimate keyblade and still didn’t even use have to use both of the life saving options the game hands to you. 6/10

Sound/Music - The majority of the songs are popular Disney songs that you’ve probably heard a billion times. You also have the characters saying the same 2 or 3 lines constantly while exploring and within an hour of being in any zone i resorted to turning the sound off in favor of something less repetitive. The Classical pieces from Square Enix were nice and usually only used for one scene giving some redemption. 3/10

Level Design/Graphics - Beautiful and flushed out, most every level was a wonder to explore and quite beautiful to look at. The promise of the levels being giant and sprawling seems true at first glance but the mini map dictates to you that it’s not actually much larger than the previous titles and with the update to the speed at which Sora can traverse the levels it ends up coming out pretty equal to KH2 in just how big it actually feels. As a whole this may be the truly best part of the game and i hope the design team gets some praise internally cause their hard work shows and it was worth it. 9/10
In the end, everything felt unfinished. The vast array of mini games and change ups in game play were ok at first but by the end everything was kind of a let down because there was no challenge or substance. it was like they put everything into expositing the story at you and it just wasn't a good story.

As a die hard KH fan. Let me tell you this.

It's a 30 hour game. 28 hours are Disney. 2 Hours are Kingdom Hearts. Without ANY kingdom hearts charm in them.

A complete and utter mess of a game.
I loved KH1 and KH2 - never bothered playing the others after it because they weren't that good and were just milking the franchise.
Would have preferred a continuation from the second KH game, but no it's a convoluted story thanks to the abundance of stupid additions from these worthless other titles that shouldn't even be considered canon.

Gameplay mechanics have been dumbed down for little kids. Even proud mode is still easy, all it does is increase HP and dmg values of enemies. Spamming abilities that most of the time have no relation to the environment/world they're in. Only world that does this is Toy Story with the rocket...

The worlds are less in number, most of their stories are really shallow and rehashed - poorly executed scripts and voice acting included. At one point I was laughing at Jack Sparrow's performance and facial animation - it was just too awful to take seriously.

This game is simply overhyped trash dumpster fire, and hardcore fans are going to dribble and drool over it because they're a bunch of biased SJW white knights. We all know Disney told Square Enix what to do, Disney is completely out of touch with everything now and Square Enix hasn't made a good game in years... so I don't know why I was expecting anything good to come out of this.

Vote this down if you want, you're part of the problem though. These games are bad because you rate them high and give them money. It's really sad to see the entertainment industry fall further and further from their roots.

Absolute trash. There is nothing this game does above average and the narrative is like listening to infants empathizing with their imagination. Did they write this garbage by putting all the movie scripts into a blender, emulsiphying it, and then try to pour it down our throats? Disney, please leave video games alone and get out of the industry.

Utter Disney garbage that is infecting and dragging down a company struggling to remain relevant.

While a well made Action role playing game affair (and after its development cycle it had better be) it amounts to a convoluted mess trying to wrap up a fever dream collaboration between Square Enix and the single most evil corporation to ever exist in all of human history. The result is

While a well made Action role playing game affair (and after its development cycle it had better be) it amounts to a convoluted mess trying to wrap up a fever dream collaboration between Square Enix and the single most evil corporation to ever exist in all of human history. The result is pure abomination from its narrative driven focus.

Haphazardly thrown together Disney themed set pieces to button mash away at endlessly, much the same as its precursors and the only mildly better PS4 bretheren Final Fantasy XV. Once you peel away the nostalgia for the previous games you see it is little more than an carbon copy of other, better games of which even its prior installments produced better.

Literally not worth anyone's time and attention but due to the utter brainwashing of a generation into Disney addled zealotry, Square Enix could have rolled out the shiniest polished lawn cigar and the adult aged children that were given Kingdom Hearts on previous consoles as a surrogate for parenting will cheer along gleefully chomping down every nutty bite of this mediocre cud. More over attacking anyone who suggest that it is anything less than flawless and the greatest thing to ever be created.

So terrible it does not even justify a score and anyone suggesting it is great needs to be psychologically evaluated.

In addition to that they cut out a lot of stuff that made the precursor so good like the arena of the olymp or secret boss fights like Sephiroth or Terra. Too much Disney is the best way I can describe the game, most of the fans of this series are probably in their 20s or 30s and this panders to pre-teens to late-teens, there are almost no worlds compared to previous games, the game is too easy, the cutscenes are too long, the dialogue is painful, and the game feels like several steps backwards.

This is an abomination. It wasn't worth waiting for or the development hell. FFVIIR is doomed too

As someone who has played previous entries in the series more times than I'd like to admit, I have to say that I am sorely disappointed in this game.

I tried to write an in depth review in here offering my critiques, but apparently 5000 characters is no where even close to enough to cover it, but I've done my best to shrink my massive list to 3 general catagories.

First, and the smallest, is the lack of any difficulty whatsoever. Barring the final battle, not a single fight in this game was memorable. They were so easy in fact, that I'd even go as far as to say it was a disservice to certain villains. Enemies who we fought throughout the series and who required some strategy or forethought in previous entries are complete pushovers here. This unto itself isn't necessarily game breaking however, as this could potentially be remedied in a later patch with the inclusion of critical mode.

The second issue however, is a more complicated issue, and it is that of the gameplay itself. Some mechanics are unbalanced, and I frequently felt as though the game was registering my inputs way earlier than it should (for example, I would stop attacking in order to dodge or block, and Sora would continue with his combo for up to 3 strikes! This didn't prove to be too much of an issue given how easy the game was overall, but if the game had actually been on the same difficulty level as say BBS, this would make gameplay needlessly irritating). Other abilities, namely the attractions, are ridiculously overpowered. It is essentially an I-WIN button that pops up every 10 seconds or so, and cannot be turned off. Fortunately you can choose not to use them by cycling through your proc abilities with the L2 button, but adding an 'off' button would dramatically improve the quality of life for players who feel they make the game too easy.

The third, and most glaring issue for me, and the one which ruined it for me, was the complete lack of narrative cohesion throughout the game on both the small scale (the individual Disney worlds), as well as the large (the over arcing story). I won't go into too much detail here, as I don't want to include spoilers.

The individual Disney worlds have awkward moments that you will not be able to follow unless you've seen the movies (Tangled, Frozen), and are overall simple and lazy copy-and-paste versions of the movies.

Even more troubling and game-breaking is the over-arcing story, which is rushed and crammed in to the last few hours. The writers do a poor job of explaining what exactly is happening, to the point where it seems (and I still believe they did) break their own world rules.

I don't know where the game I've waited to play for so long is, but this certainly wasn't it. And were it not for the fact that I made the mistake of purchasing a non-refundable digital copy, I would be seeking a refund- something I have never done in my entire gaming life.

Kingdom Hearts III doesn’t go in the direction some RPG fans will no doubt have been hoping for. It’s unashamedly over the top in just about every way, from its barmy story and stunning presentation to its huge cinematic battles. There’s plenty of depth here too, though you’ll need to find your bearings first.

There is no doubt that Kingdom Hearts III will make long term fans moved or even cry. As for those new to the franchise, I believe they also can be satisfied because of tons of classic Disney elements and solid combat system, even though they could barely understand the main story.
