Game in first person that will make you enter a story based on real events.
This game of adventure and terror is inspired by an incident he had in Dyatlov, when 9 Russian hikers mysteriously died without knowing how or why. In the game, our character will have to discover the reasons why these Russian hikers died.

If we add to that the environment of the game, the effects, the fear, its history and its graphic quality we can imagine that we are facing a masterpiece of fear games in the first person. This game you will enjoy from the first minute without any doubt.

Kholat is a unique experience, mix of adventure, horror, experience. It's NOT an easy game. It's challenging and does not forgive players who are pushing forward without thinking. The map, compass and good terrain orientation are all necessary in Kholat. If you admire a good challenge set in amazing mood, graphics and sounds then this should be a treat for you.

This game evades the comparison to any other game out there. I can see why it gets very different scores from various sources. It is hard to grasp, difficult to understand at times. has incredible atmosphere, stellar voice acting, brilliant landscapes and mood. For the price I bought (18 EUR) this is definitely a good value. I spent around 7,5 hour with it and I love watching how other streamers player it. Go check it yourself.

One of the most underrated games ever! I think that's because it is not a typical walking sim. There is so much to uncover, many layers of a storyline, a lot of creepy places and situations. Absolutely stunning music and voice acting. I just love it. Go and give it a try! It is worth it. Let's play a game: Never Have I Ever.

Never have I ever... Had to look up a walk through guide to see where I needed to go right at the opening seconds of a game. Never have I ever... Could not read an in-game map Never have I ever... Watched trailers and game play of a game, liked what I saw, bought it, and then upon playing it for a little, absolutely hated it. Even with a patch

Never have I ever... Watched trailers and game play of a game, liked what I saw, bought it, and then upon playing it for a little, absolutely hated it.

Even with a patch released to fix bugs and issues, the game is technically lacking big time. Massive frame rate drops, a ton of major freezes that lasted a few seconds before the game resumed, terribly short draw distances and audio dropping. Game play wise, the map is hard to read (when I saw hard, I mean impossible unless you're a cartographer), compass is impossible to use as it doesn't function like a normal compass, instead showing you where the last camp you found was. There are wooden spikes in the ground serving as traps to those who aren't looking where you're going, but most of these traps are hidden under snow. Even if you are looking where you're going, you're gonna find and die in one of these hidden traps. The creatures in the game are awfully placed, most of the time they'll turn a corner behind you and kill you from there even though you could not have known it was there (since there are no music or visual clues that something is right behind you). You have to constantly check behind you, which is a pain because it makes progressing slow, and causes the game even more frame rate issues with the constant turning of the camera.

Environment is pretty well done, the mountains and trees are quite detailed... Until you get real close and see that trees are paper thin and reminiscent of PS2-game trees. Ledges and cliffs are hard to navigate because sometimes where you need to climb up or down is impossible to tell, or (when climbing down) you die after dropping a couple feet because "That's not a way you're supposed to be able to go *wages finger*." Save points are so few and far between, that if you die, you most likely have to replay between 10-30 minutes of the game again just to get to where you died........... Only to die again because the game is poorly designed.

Repetitive deaths in the same locations, combined with insanely infrequent save points make playing this game your own nightmare. So if the game wanted to create a nightmarish experience, it's done a fantastic job. If the game wanted to create a GOOD nightmarish experience, it falls right on its face, breaks its nose and runs out into the snow storm, left alone to either bleed our or freeze to death with its fate left a mystery.

    PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS GAME

typical indie walking simulator. not as horrible as firewatch but still not very exciting either, although there are a few nice jumpscares in there. framerate goes severly down at times, and there is only one type of monster in the whole game. graphics are average at best, but again not as bad as in firewatch

Interesting theme, nobody before didn't put the Dyatlov pass incident in the game,as far as i know. The game is based on a true event, but it succesfully tried to put supernatural elements to that. The atmosphere is quite intense sometimes. Yes, somebody will say it is a walking simulator, but if you like a good story driven games, you should try it. Not a masterpiece but a good indie title.

I do like heavy story narrative games with minimal game play now and again. First impression kind of bad it wants to be terribly mysterious, but it is terribly boring slow with bad controls. a first person adventure that does not hold your hand in playing this game. being able to read a compass and map helps out greatly. but its still a fun little mystery.

This thrilling story will keep you at the edge of your seat and will leave you wanting to know more about these events. Kholat won’t disappoint the fans of the genre and is worth a try.

Irrespective of the platform, Kholat is a game full of extremities. Awesome aspect of navigating the area is squandered by invisible corridors resulting from main character’s restricted mobility. Powerful horror scenes are wasted in a story that’s just an empty shell. On a technical side I was disappointed that the game runs in 30 fps and sometimes noticeably stutters. [05/2016, p.63]

It’s a world that feels remote, hostile and bloody mysterious, and you’ll want to persist in order to unthaw its buried secrets. [June 2016, p78]
