I gave the base game a 9/10 after about thirty hours of game play. I am now well over eighty hours of total play time and was very pleased when I heard more content was coming as DLC. I feel this DLC brings a lot to the table and might be the excuse many players, like myself, needed to boot up the game again.
The Secrets of Doctor Wu is a $15 DLC that adds new locations, research, and dinosaurs. It launched with the excellent 1.12 patch that adds a bunch of free QOL updates to this already awesome game. There are five new dinosaurs, three of which are hybrids. I absolutley love four of them but am not fond of the first new hybrid, Ankylodocus, you'll get introduced to her in all of her derpy glory on the second island. The Spinoraptor alone was enough to get me to buy the DLC but I also appreciate another small carnivore, Troodon, added to the game with unique animations and venomous properties. The Stegoceratops will be my go to for herbivore exhibits and Olorotitan has some of the best skins in the game. All of the new dinosaurs sound and look great... for the most part. (Looking at you Ankylodocus.)
It took me about eight hours to get through both new island locations. The first island is a basic "do contracts until you unlock missions" formula of the main game but the missions for each faction are fun and interesting. They also unlock a ton of new modifiers which are the real reason you want to pick up this DLC. From being able to adjust a dinosaurs comfort levels to getting upgrades for better hatchery chances, I can say the new research upgrades are absolutley worth the price of admission.
I will say the story for this DLC was a little anticlimactic. Without going too heavily into spoilers, Doctor Wu has new ideas for dinosaurs and needs your help gathering data to perfect his research. While it was nice having more to do after you beat the main story, other then create my perfect dinosaur park, it had an unsatisfying conclusion that left me wanting more from future content. I was also surprised that Frontier didn't take the opportunity to release cosmetic skins for old dinosaurs or any cosmetics for your park. I still desperately want rocks, statues, skeletons, new shops, and little bits and bobs to make my park feel more unique and personal. I was also kinda sad that the DLC only included two real dinosaurs as the rest are hybrids.
All in all, this is a very solid DLC with a lot of bang for the buck. New missions, dinosaurs, and new research options breathe a lot of life into an already fantastic game. If you own the base game and are looking for more to do, definitely pick it up. I hope in the future we'll see more park customization, as well as the much requested air and water attractions, but if you wanted more Jurassic World Evolution you'll be very pleased.… Expand
