I am SO tired of juggle combos that give you like 2 milliseconds to block and then you basically get to sit there for a few and have no control of your character. That all but ruined MKX for me and I was hoping they wouldn't follow the exact same path with Injustice 2. Unfortunately they have. It's too easy to initiate a juggle combo and the window to prevent it is far too small. This might have been ok but the game inexplicably suffers input lag that can vary from moment to moment and match to match. You can see this yourself by going into practice and executing the same combos repeatedly. They'll execute as expected maybe two thirds of the time while the other third, it just doesn't properly register.

As you can imagine, this makes online play super annoying, especially since matchmaking is, once again, lackluster and doesn't give a damn about skill level.

I'd like to rate it higher but more often than not I'm frustrated, not entertained, while playing. I could sit here for hours practicing moves but when the game sometimes completely disregards input commands, why bother?

Netherealm and Warner Brothers bring's us a sequel to Injustice gods among us, Injustice 2; Does this fighting game compete as a number one contender or a chump? let's find out.

Injustice 2 takes place after the events of One still feeling the effects of Superman turning evil after the joker got to him, but this time it seems that Gorilla Grodd and Brainiac are behind the evil plans this time. Batman and the rest of the Justice League (minus Superman) team up together to take down Brainiac as he attempts to destroy the world. During the duration of the story, we see new characters come in to play like SuperGirl, Cyborg, Harley Quinn and so much more. Progressing through some of the heroes we see become overturned or brainwashed if you will and join Brainiac in his mission to destroy Earth just like he did Crypton. Sometimes in the story line, you will have a choice of two heroes you want to fight as it's only at the end though that it makes a difference of the storyline if you choose to play as Batman or Superman. The ending is a bit different than most fighting games because we see the team divide a little bit, in the end, depending what happens to Brainiac while Batman is about bringing him to justice, Superman wants him dead.

The gameplay is just like the previous one and Mortal Kombat now that is good and bad at the same time. Some of the heroes fight flat on the ground while others float in the air which well can be somewhat annoying, I get it you can fly do not really need to emphasize on it. The fighting in this game is not the greatest either the moves list is a bit lackluster when it comes to variety, and one thing that really grinds my gears about this game is I do no like having to enter the entire button combination before it will actually do the special move I just wish it could be more react quicker when I do the combo move like in Tekken or Dead or Alive.

Injustice 2 is a great game, however missing some of my favorite characters DC universe, the story was short, but gave you the opportunity to play as everyone it was short and sweet. The customization in this game is deeper than any other fighting game I have played in my life and it is something I can appreciate and hope to see more of. This is your normal fighting game with a story, Arcade, Online, and Multiverse mode. I hope there is a third one with a bit more characters, better and more responsive combos.

There is so much on offer that taking a top-down view of the game is a bit intimidating. The controls are spot on, building on the legacy of both the modern-era Mortal Kombat games and the previous Injustice. The graphics are incredible, both during gameplay and during story cutscenes.

There is a story mode, continuing the story from the first game, that lasts 6-8 hours depending on both your skill with multiple characters and your choices. Yes, choices...you will get to decide which characters you use (to an extent) as you play through the story, and your choices affect what happens as well as what rewards you earn. There is also a fantastic Multiverse mode, which presents a number of different single player fights with various modifiers. Maybe you have Harley Quinn as a summonable sidekick, or maybe the Joker periodically drops bombs into the stage throughout the match. Either way, you get rewarded for doing well and it mixes up the action from the usual one-on-one fighting.

The gear system provides a lot of fun incentive to try out new characters and work on building up your favorites. The gear not only changes how a character looks, but also adds stats like health, defense, etc, as well as sometimes adding little cantrips like gaining extra xp or credits, or taking less damage from certain types of attacks. There are even sets with bonuses for equipping multiple pieces in a set.

There's a lot on offer in Injustice 2, and I found myself unable to put my controller down. I kept wanting to try one more Multiverse tower, or level up a character so I could equip some newfound piece of gear, or just battle online to contribute to my guild. You will not be disappointed unless you just flat out don't like fighting games.

Edit: I am revising my score down a point after spending nearly a week with the game. There are some pretty nasty inconsistencies that I think can be addressed with a small patch. The gear system suffers from the same problem World of Warcraft did early on. Namely, you can acquire higher level gear that is far inferior to lower level gear. With all the different appearances, stats and cantrips available, there is no reason for such RNG variation in the numbers.

The AI is also inconsistent. One minute you might be wiping the floor with an opponent, and the next, they pull out a 13 hit combo that leaves you with no room to breathe. It sometimes feels like any AI between 'Very Easy' and 'Very Hard' just toggles between those two extremes randomly.

Finally, the Multiverse bosses are just plain not fun. They force you to play nearly perfect for an extended period, as bosses enjoy boosts like hit armor and overall reduced damage. I suppose they would be fun for that handful of people that liked fighting Shao Khan (from Mortal Kombat 9) or Gil (Street Fighter 3), but those people are few and far between (this being on the internet, I'm sure I'll see dozens of people who claim otherwise). It's disappointing to see such a great game include 'cheap bosses' as a regular feature.

The roster is full of characters who most people would not even recognize, but easily the worst part is the fact that they took out 50 percent of the roster from the first game. If you liked wildly popular characters like Lobo, Martian Manhunter, Zatanna, Solomon Grundy, Batgirl, Captain Marvel/Shazam and many more (and a lot of people did) then the people that made this game don't care and took them out and that is probably the biggest deciding factor in this score (the roster). A huge pet peeve of mine is taking characters away instead of adding more. Expand

It really feels like you need the speed and reflexes of The Flash to even have a chance of doing them. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the story so far--although it's not quite as good as the first game--but at the same time it's not very fun to play. Also, why do we need a gear system here? The last time I checked this was a FIGHTING game, NOT an RPG. Don't know why seemingly EVERY game nowadays has to have SOME kind of RPG element to it. I mean it works for certain games, but not ALL titles need those elements to be successful. On the more positive side, the story is solid if unspectacular, the graphics are exceptional (particularly the facial animations), and come on, it's a DC title! About time they got a little love, because they sure aren't getting any in the DCEU! In closing, this is a great title for hardcore gamers who enjoy collecting loot/gear, but for more casual players who are interested simply because it's a DC title should probably wait for a price drop. I am veteran in fighting games, my favorite one is SFV, I would say Injustice 2 fail miserably in this area, and it is critical area. In short, Combat mechanic is very difficult to play. Instead of creating combo by yourself, you need to look at the list the devs provide, and you have to memorize and do just that. There are many combos for one character, but in the end, people will just spam 2-3 combo they are used to. If you try to mix and match by yourself, let say spam some button, your character will just pause itself. It was a bad design and if you look at the competitive esports, Injustice 2 is dying.

Story is also not good. It is just a script that allows characters to fight each others. Many scenes are irrational. (stupid I would say). I only played for the sake of finishing it, that's all.

In brief, Injustice 2 is only good for fans of superheroes. It has great animation but bad gameplay. If you are looking for a solid fighting game, I would recommend SFV, Tekken, Mortal Combat, or Dragon ball Z. Those games have stronger foundation. Injustice is only for those who just want to play as Batman or Superman and get through hero's story. Also, It is not suitable for casual or kids, because game mechanic requires you to remember combo, you can't button mash. You can't just grab controller and ready to go. The button sequence also has to be put in fast and in correct manner only.

It is sad because the graphic looks so well, but gameplay and story are more important than graphic. I deduct 4 points from gameplay alone, 1 point from story so the final score is 5/10. Gameplay needs overhaul seriously. Don't buy this game for kids. It is not designed for kids, both gameplay and story.

The core gameplay is still a ton of fun, if a little slow, and the campaign looks and feels great. The Multiverse, a refined version of MKX's Living Towers, is a great addition, and provides consistent PvE content when you don't feel like getting brutalized online. So what's the issue?

Netherrealm Studios have churned out ten additional characters since the game's release, and you have to pay for ALL of them. Some of them are crazy good and can counter popular strategies, but if you don't fork over the dough to buy them, you're put at a disadvantage. This doesn't even factor in "gear", stat-altering cosmetics that unbalance casual play, or "source crystals" a premium currency used to change the color of your character's costume. Even those who waited for the full-priced edition that includes all the DLC characters have to deal with the economy of a mobile game, and it's depressing.

It pains me to give this game such a mediocre score, but the core mechanics, as solid as they may be, are bogged down far too much by WB's penny-pinching. If you have to play it, I recommend you buy a used copy of the Legendary Edition to ensure you get the most complete experience without directly supporting these practices.

Shots projectiles - you wanna just block in that position. Close to impossible in this game, as blocking now is same move backward, turning the whole thing into a spam-projectiles and use 1-2 counterattacks when your moving in and can not protect yourself. This ruins the game experience for me.
Also, the game is complelty unbalanced. You are at a great disadvantage against certain characters depending on who you play. It should be balanced each guy against eachother and it totally is not.
Because neather realms prefers to just throw a lots and lots of moves in to the game and not think about balancing. MKX has same problems but at least it has a decent block system. The game is also very stiff and counter-intuitive. Kicks and punches that should land just dont cause of the unnatural low reach-level of everyone in the game. This is much tighter in MKX, where you can feel that punches that should land also do land.
This game also suffers from the annoying 30%-hits if you press l2+r2, which I never liked, just like in MKX.
And you still cant configure to turn anything on/off. I would disable this thing and also projectiles should only do damage if they land, 0% if they dont. Maybe even penalize if your spamming projectiles to much. To discourage projectile spammers.
Injustice 2 is really just a reskin of MKX, with less tight gameplay and a poorer blocking system. Dont buy this, get MKX or something else not from neather realms.

It's almost as if the designers are telling you to "find the cheapest moves and setups, then spam yourself to victory". This is not fighting, this is high-tech dodgeball with wonky-ass animation. Sorry, but I grew tired of this gameplay idea in 1997. I will elaborate much further in my full review... but Injustice 2 is clearly designed more to be "watched" than played. It's a movie, with a side fighting game attached. Sure, all the cinematics are pretty and all. Those facial animations are great. But yeah... too bad you don't fight with facial expressions. And too bad about the actual gameplay.

Injustice 2's gameplay is a minimal improvement over the prequels. While quite a few "MK-tastic" quirks make their return... new mechanics such as Evasive Rolls, Air Recoveries, and faster walking speeds make the gameplay system a tad smoother. Blockable environmental attacks are also a step in the right direction. Visually, Injustice 2 has sharp textures and detailed character models... but ironically, once again, the characters appear so "tiny" during gameplay that their details and customizations hardly matter. For comparison's sake, the size of an Injustice 2 character in gameplay is about the size of one leg of a TEKKEN 7 character. Even KOF14's characters and SFV's characters appear much larger and more impressive on screen. This is a huge visual flaw for a fighting game in my opinion, right along with the wonky animations. Not a fan.

The animations are lacking and most characters just feel like headswaps from MKX characters. Roster could've been a lot better, way too much Batman influence. Offline content is satisfying and the saving grace of the game for me.

I have no idea what is wrong with the AI in this game but after about 4 hours it becomes nearly impossible. I am by no means a noob to fighting games and i must say there are many gaps 9in this system. A 1 from me becasue this game is unplayable now.

Brainiac very hard difficulty, more like very annoying my main reason I'm uninstalling same with mortal kombat, same with tekken. Do you creators not know how to make a fun difficulty where it doesn't have to be so challenging smfh.

What a terrible game. I created a profile just to submit this. I understand what it is the free game of the month. The game does not keep up with your inputs, you try to string a special together and it uses the basic form instead. The only saving grace is the story, which is good for the hour you play it. Spend your money elsewhere.

Like the first Injustice, this game is just MK without fatalities and blood. There will be 10 or more characters from the roster, available through DLC. Thats actually 1/3rd of the base launch character pool, and 1/4th of the supposedly final pool. I know im not obligated to buy all the DLCs, if I dont want to. I dont think its acceptable for a game, especially a fighting game, to cost 1/3rd of the price of the console, and thats not even the Collectors Edition, just the full game. On top of that there are equipment items for the characters, equipment items that actually affect gameplay, that are available only through online play, guild ranking and lots of grind. Or they can be bought from the "Pay to win" shop in the game, for real cash. Really? So what happened to the "We want to make the fighting genre popular again"? Make it a MOBA? Yet MOBAs are completely free, and everything in them can be obtained through grinding. Fighting games are about sitting down with a friend and beating each other, thats when they were popular. This game is the complete opposite, online only equipment, pay to win equipment, lots of DLC, lots of milking the cash cows. Once the cash cows buy everything from the "Pay to win online shop", the game will be dead in the water, and the full version will be available for 15 bucks. Injustice 2 is not about fighting, its about cash, buying forgetful stuff, and moving to the next cash cow game. So vote not only on metacritic, vote with your wallets. Im putting my cash on the fighting game releasing next month. :) Expand

The amount of DLC they throw at you every time Netherrealm makes a fighting game is getting really old. Getting prompted to spend money after dropping $60 is disgusting.

.Sad gameplay, this game only gets a good review because of the HQs, if it was not for that, my god of the sky, heavy gameplay, never... .......................

$100 for 38 characters is not acceptable. super moves are so boring. mechanics are awful . battle arenas are fewer than tekken . ridiculous combat system .

    Total rip-off.
For starters, 'Ultimate Edition' does not include DARKSEID!!!
How it this ‘Ultimate'? I paid for the most-expensive version of this game, then found out they want EVEN MORE MONEY FOR DLC CHARACTERS/BONUS CONTENT!!! That’s worse that greedy, it’s deceptive. I seriously feel lied-to by the advertising. I thought I was buying the WHOLE game, but I didn’t get the whole

That’s worse that greedy, it’s deceptive.
I seriously feel lied-to by the advertising.
I thought I was buying the WHOLE game, but I didn’t get the whole game.

The regular game is $60, and I paid $40 more to get exactly this:
2 'shaders' that let you change the color palate of a character, and 3 ‘skins’:
alternate looks for Flash, Green Lantern, and Super Girl.
    That's its.
So I basically paid a little more than $13 a skin for 3 skins I didn’t really want because I was under the impression I would get ALL the others characters in the game too.
    Nope.
The claim new content will come for the ultimate edition, but, so far, literally nothing.
I got a message saying I could not play ‘Red Hood’, but no, he isn’t available even after beating the story mode.
    I can BUY him though.
They say it’s a ‘bug’ but until it’s fixed, it sure feels like a scam.
Darkseid definitely isn’t a bug through, they definitely want you to pay more for him, and they have made it pretty clear there will be plenty more content that you can only get if you pay extra.

The game itself is mediocre - control interface and graphics are slightly improved from Injustice 1, but FULL of of bugs, and the story is both short and boring.
Less than 6 hours, and you don't even fight all the available characters, instead they have you fight a lot of the same characters over and over....got really tired of Bane popping up everywhere.
Despite being a direct sequel, nothing about this game had the same feel as Injustice 1.
Injustice 1 was fun because it was a broken-mirror universe where heroes and villains swap roles and Superman is a jerk!
Injustice 2 takes that away and, almost without exception, the heroes act heroically, the villains act villainous, and things plays out very predictably.
I'd actually buy a regular DC universe fighting game like that, it's only disappointing because I was expecting another game like Injustice 1.

As fort he bugs, missing dialogue, glitchy graphics, missing DLC characters, and if you have major problems and try to re-install the game, the bugs just get worse, and you will NEVER again be able to link that account with the mobile app, denying you the 'Grid' skin literally forever unless you start a whole new PSN account.
Believe me, I know, I was on the phone with tech support for DAYS.
If they fix all the bugs, I’d say ‘Ultimate Edition’ is worth $30 and I’d give it 2 stars.
If they actually included ALL the contact in Ultimate Edition, Id give it a 3 stars.
Really though, unless they announce a major overhaul, don’t buy this game.

The 1-star comes from the fact that an OK/Mediocre game is completely spoiled when you feel like they lied to you about what you were paying for.
I paid extra for the 'full game' and I didn't get it.
I got a broken game with missing pieces that I had to pay extra to complete....which is the experience I could have had for $60 instead of $100.

So now I'm either the chump who spent $100 on a bad product, or I’m the chump who spends even more hoping it will make the product better.
If you want to play it, rent it, wait a year or two then buy the cheapest version of the disc.
The download version of the game is the worst-possible value – you return it, you can’t trade it in, you don’t get the limited-edition comic book that comes with the disc, and you DON’T Get DARKSEID (they mockingly tell you he was only available with digital copies as a pre-order, and that ship has sailed).

What a rush to be able to play a sequel that exceeds its predecessor in almost every way. Injustice 2 is in terms of looks, gameplay and the amount of (interesting) characters leaps ahead of the previous installment without losing its accessability. And then there's the loot... my god, THE LOOT. The current system might not (yet) be perfectly balanced, but it is definitely the ultimate addition to a fighter filled with super heroes. The loot fighter: finally it has returned.

Some players (like me) who aren’t fans of online competition may question whether Injustice 2 is worth a full price purchase, but there’s a lot more content in this package than in the average fighting game, for DC fans and fighting game fans alike. Highly recommended!
