Beautiful graphics, good story. The only thing that bothers me is the smoothness in combat. Delsin's weak HP makes you to run from combat, recharge and come back again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought my PlayStation 4 because of this game, and I can say that i am disappointed, the graphics are great but story wise it feels like it has no heart. I finished the game already and I thought to myself: thats it?
I guess I will continue waiting for the Order or switch to my xbox one and play some Titanfall!

It's very much still InFamous, they've not reinvented the wheel but if you like the PS3 versions, same kind of deal but with much more responsive controls.

The graphics are what really set this apart though, the particle and lighting effects are amazing, and the characters faces are probably the most lifelike I've seen yet in a console game, the way they wrinkle as they talk etc really

Plenty to do, side missions, drug busts etc..InFamous: Second Son has the new record for longest continuous play session on my PS4 and I've had it since launch day, it's that good.

Looking forward to the future if this is a launch window game.

Please dont listen to ppl who put anything lower than a 7 because this game is simply too good to be less than a 7 no matter who plays. It took a while though, we all see the adds Sony is pushing us so it's hard to ignore the game. When I read the reviews I wasn't all that psyched, seeing the in-game footage was amazing but I didn't had a connection with the franchise. Played an Infamous game on the PS3 once, free with PS Plus, but after an hour I ditched it. This morning after skipping class I was watching twitch tv, by accident because I don't do that much. When I saw people playing the game, I was feeling a little excited. After watching a guy clear one district (a thing you need to do in the game) I was hooked and instantly bought it on the PS store. And really, don't have any regrets because it is really an amazing game. The story isn't that brilliant like a Last of Us and it isn't a sandbox game like GTA, but the things you can do are bloody amazing. Jumping on roofs, hovering between them and whooshing into thin sand to reach the next rooftop, it never gets old. I've read that it's a lot of repetition but what game isn't? The touchpad controls are worked in nicely, like the speaker in the controller. The game itself is pretty challenging and it does take some time to find a way to get things done. The character is pretty funny, some things make me laugh out loud which is a good thing because only The Stick of Truth made me laugh in a game since a long while (GTA..). So yeah, 12-13 hours to end the game sounds right, but you can play a good hero and a bad one, so it's worth the replay I think. The last thing I haven't touched are the graphics, which are incredible as aspected on a next gen console. Brilliant details, climbing the Space Needle and seeing entire Seattle is just stunning, JJ Abrams lens glares the hole package.

So should you get the game? I hadn't had a thing with the franchise, after the reviews I wasn't that thrilled but seeing people play it on Twitch made me buy it. It's brilliant and really fun to play. Maybe I'll be playing the previous two on the PS3 because the story sounds cool, can't wait to finish this one though!

Story - damn good - but I could have gone for more integration of core character motivations. Such as: the most beautiful Fetch; why not have a date mission or something to explore the depth of her more. She could have been fleshed out significantly. Eugene as well I feel could have played a much bigger character centric role but I am thankful for the depth of his integration as it stands (super bad ass)... I will say the powers are the best I have ever seen instituted in a video game. There is simply nothing like this game out there, and I love that Sucker-punch has invested so heavily in this franchise. Delsin is a fun protagonist, and I enjoy his banter but I wish they would have recorded more one liners so things would have been mixed up a bit. SPRAY-PAINT - Very fun indeed in this game with the stencils and controller integration (you can see the paint actually drying slightly while you are spraying in the right light!). That brings me to the visual polish, and well holy hell, is it the best looking thing I have ever seen. That's it. damn fine work. Could have been a little longer. Great variety, and extremely polished ass-kicking ride. Expand

My biggest problem was the lack of variety on the side missions, mobs, and how you had to clear each district...what you were doing in the beginning of the game was the same throughout....spray paint a wall, play where's waldo with an undercover DUP agent, blow up a couple camera's and take out a mobile DUP command center before standing on a billboard and calling for more of the same guys you just killed near the mobile command center.

That being said, the "Main missions where you tracked down other conduit's were cool, and also the Origami side missions are great (although having to sign up for the paper trail website to access them was annoying).... Overall it's really a good game, especially if you focus primarily on the main portions of the story, but if you're a completionist like me, a little more variety in the side stuff would have been nice.

The game itself adds little to the Infamous formula, but the incredible level of visual detail brings the immersion feel to a completely new level.

The visuals are beautiful and the acting of protagonist Delsin Rowe, starred by Troy Baker is great! I played through the game first time, as a goody two shoes and the story was great. The second play though I played as a bad *** and the story was definitely better and more fun as an evil character. The acting, to the powers was just way more entertaining. The only downfall of the game is, it feels very short and I was begging for more. The length of the game is still worthy of a 10. Expand

I only noticed one or two occasions where the frame rate dipped when i used the big "destroy everything around you from the sky dive"
Lets start with the promise that i won't do spoilers. So no word about the story itself.

Lets start with the graphics: Just take a look from a high point, and look around. No texture blurring, everything is sharp and detailed, and a smooth frame rate. I only noticed one or two occasions where the frame rate dipped when i used the big "destroy everything around you from the sky dive" move, where the explosion on the ground, and everything that crumbled down, caused the frame rate to dip a bit. Faces look awesome, and lip sync is also very good.

Sound design is perfect, even with the new Sony headset, i was able to locate some powerful enemies by listening where their sounds came from. The voice acting is very good, and believable. I liked the fact that i can choose to listen to the English version, and in my own language. The subtitles can also be watched in both languages, but the default setting is in what language you have set your Playstation 4 in. So i had to turn of the Dutch language in order to get the English spoken version.

Game play: After getting to grips with the control, and because the game teaches you each new trick/power piece by piece, you soon start to move/free run very smoothly trough the whole city. Everything feels right, and after roughly 30 minutes, i did not even missed the auto aiming function that usually finds its way to most shooting games. Just a few moments, when the action gets hectic, and you did hot had the chance to charge up your powers (you need to accumulate some stuff to charge the "power" bar to be able to use your powers), then things can get a bit chaotic. I won't tell what "stuff" you need, as i think it's more fun if you find out what kind of powers and what you need to charge them by yourself. I will end with the fact that the only downside in gameplay for me was that it's sometimes not clear what kind of power you need to kill a certain enemy.

Overall: I really like this game. It feels fresh, and by choosing if you want to be good or bad, you get that feeling of you are being a super human, like Superman or Batman. People can cheer for you, or run away, depending what choices you make during the game. That Superhuman feel, feels really good, and the complete package is good. Not perfect, due to some frame rate dips, and when things get hairy, sometimes you can't flee because the character get stuck between two pieces of street furniture (Like benches and a garbage bin for instance), and that can lead to a unneeded death. But other than that, this one will be ended more than once, if only to finish it as a Hero, or a bad guy, to see how the people respond.

I hope the review helps. It's difficult to be constructive while keeping in mind that i don't want to spoil a thing for the people who still want to play this game.

Anyway onto the game. The graphics are amazing, the frame rate is rock steady no matter what you're doing, gliding from the space needle, destroying towers, leaping into the air and smashing into the ground blowing up cars and throwing bodies around, it's all beautifully done and flows like water.

I was disappointed by the lack of karma quests and the lack of moves per power tree, but overall the game was great.

When the announced a new protaganist for the series, I was stand offish, especially when Delfin was shown to be a typical new trend hipster teenage dofus in the trailers, but he is actually quite a well drawn, likeable character with some interesting family background and traits. The secondary characters are also quite well drawn and likeable, I do miss the Zeke man and Cole, but this new direction is good.

I think that the mission repetition the nay sayers are harping on about is abit exageratted. Certainly the missions are repeatitive to an extent, (what sandbox game isn't), but they do evolve and get harder and I presonally find the side quests a nice little distraction when I wanna take a break from the story line. More importantly the side quests are completely skippable, you don't need them to progress in terms of powers or storyline and so I feel they flesh the game out more and don't really bring the game down in any way shape or form. I actually really like the spray can missions which surprised me. I looked forward to them as the art style was great and they were quite humerous (I played with good karma my first play through, but will replay for infamous karma and I will be interested to see how they play out).

The storyline was great and definitely pulled on my heart strings and got me immeresed in the new world and the lore. I would have liked to see more nods to the old series as the residents of the world don't seem to really remember Cole or his sacrafice and just kinda treat all conduits as bio terrorists, which kinda demeans all the healing and saving he did, but meh. I really enjoyed the little comic cutscenes too, glad to see they are still there, the art direction as always is great in this series, the comic booky feel adds well to the super hero lineage.

The music is quite good, plays well to the feel of the scene and the character.

The cities are wel thought out and play nicely, maybe adding some touristy stuff to the future game installments, like a sightseeing tour or something by air would add a new kind of side mission, I don't know.

Combat is fun and great, though I would like to see some more combo type systems installed in terms of stuns being used a bit more chain like, air juggling and what not, more finese and less brute force, but a great start.

I love how alot of the negative marks are pointing at no innovation, more of the same, etc. You have to remember this is a sand box sequel, with true next gen graphics and physics, near at launch, give it a break. You can't compare it to GTA 5 which was at the end of the console life and you can't compare it to Titanfall, which is FPS and based in an old engine (and this shows btw, lag and sub par graphics and physics, doesn't really blow me away). Creating storyline and crafting a believable world with lore, backstory and immersion takes time, I'm amazed at the job they've done.

Anyway if you've reach the end of this review, thanks for taking the time. I would like to take more time on it but I won't, not a bad first entry. To some it up:

    Pros

    - Great storyline, characters and lore. Interesting new world, look forward to growing it more in future installments.
-Amazing graphics, beautiful colours, great physics, first next gen feel I have had, (This includes Titanfall sorry guys).
    - Good combat and skill tree, would like to see this explored and expanded.
    - Easy to find and understand upgrading orbs and mechanics

    Cons

    - Quick travel system wasn't really that great, should have been useable from any location once unlocked. I also really miss zipping along the train lines, was kinda slow for a long time, vent system was great though.
    - Karma system - while not massively bad needs to be drawn out alot more, would like to see interactions with the city alot more too rather than the regular "WOOHOO GO, MARRY ME" type of reaction

A great game, a great new start.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Definitely a good game, but it also lacks in some departments. First of all, the story is simply too short, and you'll see the ending coming from far, far away. The 4 powers (Smoke, Neon, Video and Concrete) are very cool, when I got Video I was blown away that SuckerPunch managed to somehow turn that into a power. However, Concrete really isn't good enough. Also, the game really lacks in the post-story content. When you've all of it there's nothing to do besides the repeating D.U.P. raids. However, the voice acting is simply brilliant! Troy Baker did an outstanding job as Delsin, just like all other actors and their characters. Graphics are also brilliant for an open world game so early in the generation. Expand

The story is about Delsin, who finds out that he is a conduit, after a van crashes on it's way to Washington. the D.U.P's head, Brooke Augustine interrogates his village and puts them in danger of death, from her concrete powers. As Delsin, you have to head to Seattle, along with your cop brother, Reggie, to gain her concrete powers (because your power is to take other people powers). Although the game is short, you WILL replay it to see the opposite karma to what you chose, for example, if you chose hero, you can play evil. I:SS's gameplay doesn't lack in awesomeness either. You gain new powers, which you can upgrade through that powers skill tree, and enhance your gameplay by combining said powers.
    Now onto the graphics.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous: Second Son. Great game, with a few minor problems.
    Some spoilers within.
Ok, so this isn't really a "review" exactly, more like "good news, bad news"

First the good. Graphics are, of course, amazing. Especially Neon powers. Absolutely gorgeous.
I've heard complaints about the story, characters, and plot. Honestly, yes it's not perfect, but no game is. I really connected with Delsin and got into his head.
The powers.... oh man the powers are, to use Delsin's words, The powers are awesome! Love them.
And the destruction is fantastic. I love going around and tearing down what the D.U.P. has put up.
The city... again I've heard complaints that it didn't feel alive. I can't understand that though, I love how the city interacts with you. How the citizens will stop and take pictures of out of the ordinary things. How they'll run away when things happen. And other such things. Felt really alive to me.

    Ok, the downsides....
First... too damn short. More a nitpick than a complaint, but it really was too short.
The powers.... while they were really awesome, seriously awesome. I was/am disappointed that you couldn't switch powers on the fly. I also would've liked a bit more variability in the powers.
    and the biggest "complaint"
The last power you get, concrete, isn't fully fleshed out. I know it's basically a post game power, but they still should've filled in the last slots anyway.

Slightly underrated, this is the first great game of the PS4. Technically, it's the best thing that exists right now. It is superior to both Shadow Fall and Ryse. Because of the open world and of the unbelievable art SP has created.

As an inFamous game, it lacks some of the missions variety (or side missions) from the previous games and also is quite shorter. On the other side, this time you have 4 sets of powers. Some say, that the other 3, beside the smoke, which is the first, are useless, but I have been using all of them almost equally (except from the last which comes almost at the end). Each action you want to take makes better use for one of them.

Also the pace is great this time with each power being presented perfectly fitting the laid-back attitude of the whole game. The music is stylish and sets the mood as does the weather and the atmosphere colors.

This is a great game, the best of the PS4 right now, the best of the inFamous series, the best visually right now. I had my complaints for its gameplay, but I had much fun and most importantly I felt the next gen leap. The controller gimmicks, the stunning graphics (with all the new tech), the more coherent inFamous world... all of those made me feel that next-gen feeling.

It's fun to explore the world and traverse it with the superpowers also. The lighting, textures, animations, mo cap, voice acting and detail in inFamous second Son on PS4 is next to none.

It's a story based game and you are a guy called Delsin who gets superpowers but this is not as much of a blessing as you'd think. This is because of the world inFamous is set in and because of what has happened in the previous games. You are seen as a bio terrorist and the D.U.P lock up anyone who has these powers. You can either choose to play as a hero or a villain and there are different quests, powers and endings depending on your playstyle. Reggie is your brother and he is a really good character in the game as is Delsin ( voiced by Troy Baker ) but the rest of the cast is more forgettable. The Story of the game is not that great in my opinion but it's good. The characters beyond Delsin and Reggie are not very fleshed out either.

There is an experience system of sorts that lets you put points into your powers as you progress throughout the game. There are side missions and activities like spray painting, rescue missions, healing people, destroying cameras and eliminating the D.U.P from the city. However many of them seem mundane. If you want a really great looking game that's really fun to play and it will last you around 10 to 12 hours to complete the main campaign then inFamous second son is a game you should really pick up on your PS4.

Few wrong moves or running into too many D.U.P. soldiers can get you killed especially if your powers are not fully developed. I finished running the story line from the "Good" perspective and now started with the "Evil" story line. Personally, they are both equally fun and offer different dialogues with basically the same story line. As for the story, you don't need to have played the first two Infamous games from PS3. There's no mention of previous characters or events and seems like Sony decided to "reboot" the franchise for the PS4.

I can't wait for the next installment of this franchise. Sucker Punch really did a good job with the game.

Excellent game. It does have a similar "feel" to the previous inFamous games, but everything has been taken up a few notches. It starts out great, but there isn't as much substance in the middle as I'd like. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn't pack quite the emotional punch that inFamous 2 did.

I love the characters. Cole was always just Ok to me, but Delsin has much more personality. The excellent voice actors have much to do with this. It's good to see Delsin embrace his new powers, unlike Cole. He's always seeking out new powers and is as happy as a kid at Christmas whenever he gets one. The evil grin he does right before dropping on enemies says a lot. Delsin's brother, Reggie, and the other conduits met in the game are very well done.

I've heard some people saying that this game is really short and repetitive, but I haven't found this to be the case at all. I haven't been clocking my gaming time, but it seemed comparable to inFamous 1 and inFamous 2 as far as I remember.

This is an extremely easy game to recommend, and not just because of the typical post-launch drought that most consoles experience.

Total playtime was probably 20 hours or so. There's no multiplayer either, so once you've finished the story there's really not much left to do.

All in all, I feel like the game is a good one, but I honestly don't know if it's worth the money. It's definitely not worth buying a PS4 just to play this one game. If you already own the system and are thinking about picking this one up, rent it first.

InFamous: Second Son shows us why Sony's Playstation 4 is the number one console on the market today. Some may disagree with that statement, but figures show that as of writing this review, it's the truth. The inFamous franchise has always been seen as somewhat of a second fiddle to the critically acclaimed Uncharted franchise by long-time Sony exclusive developers, Naughty Dog. But with the release of inFamous: Second Son, that's now proven to be all passe'. Developers at Sucker Punch have now stepped up to the plate and proven that they are now ready to be top-dog in the Playstation Universe, and inFamous: Second Son is certainly the jump start the game studio needed to get them ahead of the rest. But even with our initial praise, was the game's plot all that great? Did Delsin leave an impact that would make us forget the heroics of our electrifying hero? or did his smarky attitude leave us hoping for Cole's survival?

    GAMEPLAY: -
As inFamous fans, we all know it's all about the power game. You can't just walk in thinking that it's all going to be handed to you on a silver platter, and in a matter of moments you have the ability to blow everything up at your own free will. Playing as Delsin, you will find that alot of your powers will emulate much of what you had in the previous inFamous titles. You get the standard shoot, hover, and grenade powers, but will see that some new powers have now come into play, whilst leaving a couple behind that make total sense. Second Son brings in wall running which replaces much of power line surfing from it's Playstation 3 counterparts, and short dashes with the simple press of the 'circle' button make melee attacks pretty practical, and awesome. Of course with the different powers Delsin collects, each individual type of melee attack will have it's own unique twist with it. The powers Delsin sponges off other conduit's, or Bio-Terrorists (however you see fit to name them) throughout the game make's Delsin an irresistible force to control.

With each of the power's unique twist on every melee attack Delsin has in his arsenal, you'll find yourself wanting to switch it up every once in a while. This is where it becomes a little hectic. It's not as simple as a click of a button and Delsin changes from Smoke to Neon, you will have to find the nearest Neon sign or Smoke chimney to switch around each power. Losing and gaining energy is exactly as it was in the previous title. Low on health? Drain a Neon sign. Low on fuel? Drain a satellite Dish. Oh yeah, you can do that. And of course, what is an inFamous game without Karma? Your actions throughout the game will set you on a unique path to either becoming a hero or paving the way for becoming infamous. Each simple action in the game will either add good karma or bad karma to your karma gauge throughout the game, which is now represented by the two-colored eagle patch placed on the back of Delsin's vest. And yes, like the previous titles, Delsin's clothes do change according to his level or Karma. There are six levels of different karma again, three for good and bad karma's respectively with each name only showing the level of decency or devilishness your Delsin will get up to.

Only thing is, you will find that it is near impossible to avoid accidentally attacking the innocent throughout the game at times, that is if you are running through a straight good karma run. If you're going on an evil karma run, you will have no problem achieving the infamous rank. You will find that swarms of D.U.P's will come in masses, and aren't that easy to defeat. Even on the easiest difficulty, you will find yourself struggling to keep up with enormous swarms attacking you from every direction. Best advice? Run and wait. Just don't move away too far from certain missions, as you may fail them if heading too far out of bounds. And as far as in-game controls go, if you're expecting to jump directly from a fresh playthrough of inFamous 2 to Second Son feeling "prepared", you're in for a world of surprise. Forget everything you knew about the original inFamous controls as alot has changed, although once getting used to the new control system, you will find that the new layout is has improved and feels much more streamlined for better character handling. The game also makes use of the Dualshock 4's new touchpad, which you will be using quite abit throughout the game. The speaker on the controller will spark off a couple times as well, giving you the occasional treat.

    PRESENTATION: -
Second Son is nothing short of gorgeous. The design really does show off the difference between last generation and current/next generation consoles. The detail that the developer's put into every little speck throughout the game is remarkable. From rain droplets hitting puddles in the street, to the Smoke particles from Delsin's arsenal, the attention to detail put into Second Son is amazing. Rest of this Review is on DashGamer.com

The story mode is quite short but there is replay-ability in it for those interested in seeing both sides of the karmic path. The user also gets to try out different moves/ powers depending their karmic stance. The frame-rate only dropped twice during my 2 play-through's and those were both at a time when there was around about 30 enemies on screen, including vehicles, pedestrians, buildings and I was performing a special karmic move. Better to start with the fact that I was never a fan and generally the man who would go through any part of a series of inFamous. I played the demo for the ps3, and the game never managed to catch me. When I decided to still go through the Second Son for the next generation, I was initially quite skeptical tuned to the game. But what? Another InFamous but on ps4. Oh how I was wrong, and I'm glad I decided to test myself on this wrong. Firstly, the open world of the game is made of course not perfect, but very good. Run / jump and fly over it really brings aesthetic pleasure. A sort of a mixture of GTA, Prototype, past InFamous games and something else, which together made the city great. Secondly, it is the main character. How I got tired of images "bald" Rambo in each game. Huge, with big muscles, a kind of carbon paper with different hairstyles in all games. Delsin Rowe - this is absolutely the first protagonist in games of this genre, which is awesome. It's actually a young man, I believe the developers that he is really a man who surprised that he can do some strange things! Well, finally, thirdly, the ending of this game is completely chopped me to pieces in the best sense of the word. I realized what influenced my choice "to be a hero" and what would be if I chose to be a "goat." I realized by design, and when we went to "titles" under the cover of Nirvana I was just 2-3 minutes without moving. Bottom line: the best of all InFamous definitely one of the best open world games, great ending. Of the minuses I note the lack of desire to play in the "Free-Roam", well, the logical end of the game there are enough already. And minus for me was the fact that at certain moments of the game, in some chapters, I briefly start dropping off, total the game has little trouble keeping the audience in suspense. Great action, do not pass by. Ranked # 8 of 10. Expand

The series was palatable; for me this time out but still I enjoyed completing the side quests more than the story....... Infamous just isn't my thing anyhow but Seattle was nicely realized and the game in general technically impressive - on a side note is a pity it can't maintain that upwards of 60fps it often touches on but may well be a hardware issue let's see how things pan out.

Fantastic graphics and Seattle really feels like a living breathing city. The one thing lacking in this game for me was originality. We've seen pretty much everything in Second Son that was in the first two on PS3. Some of the missions are also quite repetitive.

A beautiful game with fun combat! The game though does have post content issues as after a few times, it is somewhat boring, but really seems like the only problem. Mostly strong gameplay, fantastic graphics, good voice actors and even sound all creates an enjoyable single player experience.

Best Infamous yet...but Sucker Punch needs to get out of their comfort zone and let the series grow. What we do have is a very pretty, very fun, but "safe" entry into the series. Good stuff, though.

PS: Metacritic opinions, both professional and otherwise, should be taken with a grain of salt--as should all critics and/or fans.
