    The Good:
    - The concept of Giant Robot dinosaurs and a futuristic setting that resembles a prehistoric era is Amazing and gives the game a sense of wonder.
    - The combat for the most part is fun, and the Bow feels amazing to use - The Enviromental Graphics, and the overall preformance of the game and the movement of the dinosaurs looks breathtaking, The Bad- - The story is lackluster

    The Bad-
    - The story is lackluster to say the least, the writing and pacing doesn't match the overall tone of this games setting.
    - Aloy is such a shallow, unlikable protagonist, poorly written.
    - The world, while beautiful, and at first fun to explore, becomes very boring and very empty fast.

I really wanted to love this game. It is beautiful. Game runs smoothly. And I do enjoy some of the mechanics. But it is just tedious for me, and it didn't pull me in. I gave up on the game after 14 hours. I am sure for many people it is an amazing experience, but it's just not for me.

An enjoyable enough game, but too many failings for me to give it the 10/10 that a lot of people seem to. Decent combat, and nice variety of enemy robots to attack, but cumbersome consumables system and ridiculous numbers of satchels and goodness knows what. Janky parkour (for that read, unless there were dedicated yellow painted things to grab just randomly jump on rocks). Distinct lack of soundtrack as well, I mean there was music, but It was pretty forgettable, and there was no time i felt the score added to a moment in the game.

Missions mostly consisted of investigate, follow trail, beat enemy, on rinse and repeat. Aloy I found at best dull, and at worst just downright annoying although she did grow on me gradually (a lot of the character acting i found very wooden).

Biggest issue for me was the cut scenes. There only ever seemed to be about 2 variations on the camera angle, and for a game that depended so much on its story, the single angle, wooden cut scenes got very boring very quickly. I wanted to get into the story, but so many times I found myself just skipping dialogue because it was so tedious.

That said, it did start to grow on me towards the end. The story, although very predictable, did come together nicely and Aloy gradually became less obnoxious. I'm not sure it grew on me enough to play Forbidden West, unless, that really works on some of the failings of Zero Dawn.

For some reason, I could not make chemistry with this game. It did not affect me.
The game environment is excellent. However, I did not like:
    - On each conversation, you need to interact and choose. After a while it becomes annoying. - Most of the game story is through recorded tracks that you need just to stand and listen. Could be a better cut scene! - Voice acting and cut scenes

    Aceptable (7'5/10)

I was in love with the Horizon Series, and after Forbidden West it was about to be my all-time favorite game, but that Burning Shores ending was so disappointing. It ruined the story for me. It was horribly written and obviously thrown in for American political reasons. It's such a shame this keeps happening.

I'm part of the lgbtq community, and even I was starting to feel weird about how there are very few honorable male characters, and how there are so many lesbian characters. So, many side quests had lesbian characters. It's not even representational of life.
Then the ending seriously threw me off, cause it just felt so out of place. There was no real story development for that love scene in the end. It seriously felt like they just threw it in to make 'woke' quota deadlines. if the 'woke' crap was just better written it would be so much more accepted, but at this point, it's really becoming a problem in ruining the art of storytelling. I can't wait for this ridiculous fad to end. Unfortunately, so many of the stories we hold so dear will be ruined by the time that happens.

Horizon Zero Dawn takes so many AAA game ideas/mechanics that have been done to death during the PS3-PS4 era and throws them all together in a big, bland bowl of soup. Then makes it look real nice and throws in some cool enemies. The open world, collectables, things to pick up, crafting, climbing, traversal, side quests, side activities and light RPG elements are all borrowed from other games and uninspired. Almost every character interaction and cut scene caused my neck to lose all strength, my head rolled back and I let out an intense groan of boredom.

The absolute high points of this game are the mystery and details of what happened to the world and the mystery of who the main character is. The other great thing is of course fights with the machine enemies. But even this which was so fun at first becomes a little tiresome as the game over stays it's welcome.

This might all sound pretty negative but it's still good enough that I finished it and then had a little more. It is a perfectly fine game that scratches some kind of itch i have in my brain. Just don't play too many games like this too often or you'll get burnt out.

But there's a character - Sylens - who appears and is critical to the game, and who is incredibly condescending to Aloy. Like, constantly belittling her and treating her like crap. It made the game MUCH less fun to play, because the authors of the game thought that treating Aloy abusively was somehow additive. It made me really hate who parts of the game. Expand

What I think I can fairly say about Horizon Zero Dawn is that it is a good game - it is one that attempts to refine a formula, and nears success in that regard. I truly wish I were able to concur with the praise that many respectable critics and players have had for this game, but find myself considering this game to be rather middling.

Sure there are some minor glitches, where Allow can't move over a small rock, but the player can try and walk over any mountain and succeed.

The weak points of the games are the characters and the dialogs. It's impossible to feel for any of the characters as they're just random encounters that one doesn't relate to. The dialogs are uninspired and really boring. Unfortunately, that includes the protagonist Alloy, who seems to be unable to express any believable emotions. To me, there are some missed opportunities that could've helped to build the character and the bonding with the player, e.g. the conflict with the Nora. She's part of the tribe, but an outcast. Yet, a deeper conflict is only hinted at in the first 20 minutes of the game.

A minor annoyances are the action radius of each machine, allowing beating any of them from a safe distance. Tge final boss seems a bit uninspired, since it's simply a machine one has a chance to fight several times in the course of the game before the final confrontation.

Overall, I enjoyed playing the game despite its weaknesses. If it wasn't for the joy of wrestling with an angry Thunderjaw, the game offers little to replay it. The characters and dialogs are even more boring the second time.

One of the best looking games out right now. So far I'm really enjoying this game and it's well worth 60 dollars which actually has all of the content included and not ripe out to be resold.

The character is interesting and learning about her story and what drives her is well done. However, I find some of the other characters kind of boring and just randomly placed in the world to take up time. This game is by no means a Witcher 3 but damn its good. The world feels so alive with the moving grass, animals, trees, etc. I get completely lost wandering around the world.
The story is pretty good as well though it would have been nice to have a stronger relationship with other characters. I also really like the minor RPG elements and crafting in the game.
The soundtrack is great and fits the game really well.

Overall, I would recommend this game if you are a fan of open world games such as Witcher 3, Far Cry, etc. Gorilla games did a great job making this game and I'm just scratching the surface so far. Also, this game really shows of the power of the PS4. Plenty of content is to be found in this game. Also, how are there so many negative reviews? To rate this game between a 4 through 0 is just arrogant.

Beautiful, very beautiful. Unfortunately that's about it. The combat is clunky and bland. Dodge roll, swing or shoot. The climbing is PS2 level bad. The story is convoluted and told through text. The side quests are ripped straight from the Witcher (go here, investigate, fight). I cannot understand how this game is so overrated beyond the fact its bright and shiny. It's about as deep as a puddle.

Played both PC and PS4. One of the worst game for gamepad (ps4)
poor human ai and conquering camps. Great at beginning little too poor after first village and too boring, repetetive. Little bad exp system. FC5 is much more entertaining.

What I hated, I fail to see why someone hasn't figured the mechanics out. Why is it that the main character is always the only one with access or just so happens to be of blood. I would rather bump into someone like Aloy and try to figure it out why she is special. I also find it hard to believe that robotic dinosaurs do not just instantly kill or why the game doesn't bother to explain regeneration which is a pet peeve of mine with any game that doesn't bother to explain it. Why are there levels in this game? Aloy seems to be wearing the same leather clothes and she faces creatures that can shoot missiles. Is it because she's level 80?

It also would have helped to have more merchants selling ammo that didn't run out (they could have balanced this out by limiting the amount of money a player can carry) or at least had the material to make the ammo and how about a place to live because this game has saved points modeled after camp fires, why not a home? Also, don't expect to climb or parkour because you have to look out for climbing rope or bright yellow hand holds because reasons.

All death animations are the exactly the same. Also, It would have been interesting to find people who ride normal horses and listen to their reasons why horses are better, such as being able to cross a river or encounter tribes that prefer robot horses because they can stand the cold, where horses can't.

What I loved. All the details aside, the world of Horizon Zero Dawn is beautiful and the robot dinosaurs are well designed. I just can't help thinking this would have been better as a horror game. I mean dinosaurs are already deadly, put missiles and guns on them, would only make them horrifyingly deadlier.

This is still a game worth experiencing but at a rental price or discounted price. The game is not hard by any sense. With all that said, 7 out of 10.

Horizon Zero Dawn is a uniquely crafted world filled with "machines" that are now the dominant species on earth. Aloy the main protagonist tries to figure out how this world came to be and discover her true origins.

When this game came out in 2017 I had little to no interest in it, however now with the release of the sequel and all the hype around it, I decided to check this one out. Horizon Zero Dawn is a really beautiful world that has been excellently crafted, it's very unique to have machines/robots completely dominate the earth, and those machines are definitely the highlight of the game. I love the designs of these machines from the Watcher to the Rockbreaker, they're all very cool and also a huge variety of them.

Gameplay is both a hit and a miss, when it is at its best it's absolutely incredible, this is usually when fighting huge machines like the Stormbird or the Thunderjaw, these fights were amazing. However when the gameplay is at its worst, it can be incredibly annoying and frustrating, this was usually when fighting human enemies as I thought fighting humans didn't have nearly as much depth as fighting the machines. The camera can sometimes be pretty annoying as well, and can really mess you up in combat. However the combat overall is pretty good, nothing groundbreaking but it was overall fun and didn't bore me for the approx. 40 hours i played. Exploring was for the most part pretty fun, however the climbing was really boring as the only thing you do is point to where you want to jump and the game does it for you, but the visuals did make up for the climbing parts. The side quests were often interesting, some were forgettable and some were memorable, but considering I finished them all before finishing the main quest means they were definitely not boring.

The story, similar to the gameplay was pretty good, the idea is very unique however I think the execution was pretty predictable, not bad necessarily but just pretty predictable. I like Aloy as a character, and some side characters were fun, but on the other hand some side characters were really forgettable and had really no impact on me, some side characters' death were so incredibly badly executed that it was honestly kind of funny, and some just didn't have enough impact. However despite all that the story was overall pretty good, and kept me intrigued for the most part.

Horizon Zero Dawn is clearly a well made game, that has its issues, but the good outweigh the bad, and the result is a fun game with a very interesting concept.

I started the game again last month, hyped by the sequel being released, and I promised myself I would be more patient this time. Once the combat clicked, it was hard to put down.

Taking on a Thunderjaw with everything in your arsenal on 'hard' difficulty level...Targeting parts, using tearblasters to strip it off its weapons and armor, anticipating where it would go and setting traps before the combat begins, the way the machine staggers and flinches every time you hit it with a blast bomb, the way it collapses dead at the end... Such an incredible joy. Word can't even describe it. Or taking on an invisible Stalker... Managing to nail the mofo down with ropecaster, and stripping it off its armor and stealth module, then dotting it with sticky bombs... OMG what a rush. The combat in this game is pure joy.

The visuals are dope as well. A half-ablaze stormbird filling your entire vision in slow motion, especially when you're fighting at night with black sky in the background, with all its glory and detailed parts and modules and wings and angry face with red eyes, is a sight to behold. I caught myself many times just admiring the design of the machines mid-combat instead of actually fighting lol.

But everything else feels like a chore. Here's what didn't work for me:

The story. OMG the story. It was worse than cliche, so much that I was unable to watch the cutscenes from all the eyerolling I had to do, and I ended up skipping them totally. Great voice acting etc. but the story just didn't work for me.

The main quest forces you to go to some indoor locations such as the ruins where you have to find and watch holograms for story progression. They were all copy-paste mazes with nothing interesting in them. Can developers please stop using holograms for exposition already?

Because of the story and the dreadfully boring interiors, I was actually begging the game to let me be and go hunt machines in the wild.

Cauldron dungeons, even though the boss fights at the end are great, and even though the color palette in the dungeons are pretty to look at, were boring and full of childish environmental puzzles. I wish they offered something unique.

Using the spear wasn't fun at all. Not sophisticated enough for full engagement. It doesn't break or malfunction, there are only a few kinds, there are limited number of attacks and animations etc. I heard it's better in the sequel, and I hope so.

I unlocked all the map and got all the collectibles before I engaged the 2nd part of the main story that starts in the hub town of Meridian. I think if I had tried to do all the side content before the main story, I wouldn't have been so engaged. The weakest point of Horizon Zero Dawn is how they handle the story. The concepts of the world and what happened to create it are fantastic. The reason the story is happening right now? Terrible. Woefully under explained, and a lot of the story choices felt forced and not organic. The opposite of the world that was built. For a Science Fiction game, I feel like they did not think through a lot of the reasoning and consequences of things that happen in the "present" day of the game. This game would be a 2 or 3 if it were not for the sheer brilliance of the world that was created by the environment and combat teams. Expand

This is an interest case, being that there are elements of this game I love to death and ones I would like to throw into a pit of fire never to be seen again. This is by no means a bad game, just very confused as to what it would like to be.

Story - In Horizon you play Alloy young girl thrust into a world giant mechanical creature and primitive tribal people who simply seek to survive.

Story - In Horizon you play Alloy young girl thrust into a world giant mechanical creature and primitive tribal people who simply seek to survive. Although concept wise this story and world have a lot going for it Horizon's problem is how lost it becomes in itself. The story, for the most part, feels like something that could be part of a one shot Netflix series that never gets a second season, while the premise and concept of the world are simply amazing. Without getting into any spoilers, the story can basically be boiled down to human nature is pretty **** up/AI's are dangerous. While these ideas on there own aren't horrible jumping off points to build a story off of, Horizons story feels like it was tacked onto the game half way through development when they finally realized Robot dinosaur hunting sim was not going to sell on its own. While its still serviceable, this is a story which doesn't much feel like it has a place in the game it was written for or rather it was jammed in at the last minute due to the behest of a publisher.

Gameplay - On the other hand, the core gameplay of Horizon is incredibly solid. Being a mix between stealth action, open world, and beat 'em up Horizon falls perfect in the middle of all of these taking the elements of more recognized games and and putting a new spin of them. Towers from Assassins Creed are now walking jump quests to unlock areas of the map, Hacking enemies not only gives you an ally in combat, but also a ride across Horizons Massive world! On top of this the combat is a pure joy to engage in and highly rewarding when you learn how to use exploit mechanics like points and elemental damage. However this feeling of joy all too soon drains away after you take down you enemies and you remember that Horizon is an RPG and you must do RPG things now to progress the story. These moments of hinderance serve only to break up what is arguably the best part of the game which is the gameplay in and of itself. However in the grander scheme of things the gameplay is too sparse to really get to enjoy before you finish it.

All in all Horizon is a great game for people who don't normally play videogames. Coming at it with low expectation saves you from enduring its more inconsistent parts while also providing you with enough cover to explain why that Netflix series you been trying to get your friend to watch is actually really good and not overrate like some people say. I'm not projecting you are!

    Gameplay: 8
Story: 5 (Ruined by poor facial animations and overall milque toast narrative)
Enjoyment: 7 (Fun parts are too few and far between, hopefully the sequel solves that)

Gameplay is fabulous. A lot of variety in weapons and armor with a lot of machines to deal with. But I must say the game difficulty is insane after you leave Nora Land. It makes me very stressful that I need to take it down to Easy difficulty to be able to progress smoothly. Well it will be easy if you have the right weapon for each machine but its like the game offer you all the machines after leaving the Nora land where you don't have all weapons to deal with some machines which will make the experience s4cks.

Platforming is good, Aloy has some cool movement sort of like parkour thing when climbing or vault over.

Side Quest is the reason I cannot give this game a great score. Its lengthy like it can take at least 10 minutes (IF) you fully focused to finish the side quest. Its like the side quest consist of several sub side quests that makes you keep wondering around trying to finish the quest. This is the reason that I stop playing the game for a while because its become way too boring.

Exploration is bad. You don't know where to climb or to go to certain destination due to a tall wall or debris in your way. Sometimes its the reason that makes me wondering around for almost 1 hour trying to find a way to reach to my waypoint. Besides that, Its a rich open world full of machines, wild animals, etc. But, there's very few theme for the area which makes me feel the world kind of bland.

Overall its a great open world game but with some major issues like difficulty spike which way too soon for me, exploration, side quests that make it too boring and tedious and resource management is kind of frustrating as well.

Each successful element of the game comes in contrast with a failed element.

The robots have an excellent design and are superbly made, just as much as the human characters are missed, without any charisma, non-existent AI, copied/pasted models.

The starting premise is intriguing but the unfolding of the story is pompous under cover of boring war between clans and the thread of which we quickly drop out of disinterest. Finally the outcome is an indigestible twist that we see coming from the beginning and ultimately very conventional and unnecessarily complex.

Character development lags behind. Aloy the main character is also part of it. We feel no attachment to her due to a charisma and a more than wobbly character, seen and reviewed 100 times (rejected by others, she forms herself).

The gameplay is rather successful, especially fights which are complex, with a raised difficulty and different ways of approaching them. A good point.
Point which will unfortunately be tainted by a very classic and uninteresting skill tree (no real choice to make so not really RPG). The very dirigiste side of the platform aspect of the game is also a bad point, showing that freedom in this universe is all relative.

The open world is beautifully done, with a coherent universe that makes you want to be discovered. Even today the game is magnificent and is one of the best open worlds created. However again this does not work, because having a huge world with different biomes then requires having interesting content. Side quests and related content, each one is more repetitive than the other.

In conclusion Horizon is not a bad game, but just a bland open world whose only difference with other games of the same type (Assassin's Creed,...) lies in its universe.
Everything else seems to be a specification in which all the checkmarks have been checked but whose realization makes it just an average game in everything but excellent in nothing.

Plot: extremely ambiguous, it seemed to me trivial, but in extremely rare moments it was still interesting. It can definitely be said that this is not the most important aspect of this game.

Combat System / Gameplay: Oh my God! It's just amazing. I don’t have enough symbols to describe how great it is, there are enough weapons for different fighting styles, battles with cars are exciting and addictive, especially if you play on pre-max / max difficulty level, in this case, the game turns into a kind of challenge ... The artificial intelligence(AI) of robots deserves respect, but it should be said that in this contrast, battles with humans look weak.

Open World / Side Quests / Characters: The world is full of different activities, side quests, hunting trials, etc. It all comes down to fighting ancient robots, and for me this is definitely an advantage of this game.
Characters who live in different settlements are plastic and do not react in any way to the main character, you can literally jump over his heads. But this is typical for most role-playing games.

Total: objectively this game is good, it has some problems and drawbacks. But playing it, getting carried away by the delightful gameplay and battles with robots, all these problems fade into the background.

I'm looking forward to continuing on playstation 5 and hope that most of these problems will be eliminated.

The first few hours of this game are simply amazing, but after that the game becomes just another open world game.

How can you rate this game any higher than a 7 or an 8?
The story is absolute bollocks, the characters all move like they have autism, the world feels like the most generic, artificially made thing I've ever seen, and on top of that, I see people praising the AI. I'm sorry, I missed the part where the AI did anything other than constantly lunge at you or constantly snipe you, getting you

To the point that on highest difficulty, STEALTH is the only approach for this game because otherwise you're screwed?

Let's be real, it's a good game, but not that good. By the halfway point I just wanted to be done with it, I was so fed up with the story, and the sidequests are so bland that I could predict them a mile away. Everything related to humans ends up in an ambush and everything related to machines ends up in a fight. Nothing interesting is discovered or achieved.

The gameplay, minus the stupid AI, can be very satisfying, and while I think it's a bit shallow, I appreciate the mod system and the different ways you can customize your weapons and gear.

One thing that the game excels at is the world design. The world looks beautiful, and the vistas of the landscapes are incredible. Unfortunately, it is basically impossible to walk five feet without fighting something. There are tons of enemies EVERYWHERE. This wouldn't have been an issue if the combat wasn't awful. A lot of it just boils down to hiding behind some cover and spamming arrows at the robot until it dies, which can take a long time because every single enemy is a complete sponge. The melee combat is even worse. You have a light and strong attack. The light attack does practically no damage and is only really good for when you need to hit an enemy one more time before it dies, and the strong attack takes about 2 seconds to hit the enemy after you press the button. Neither of these feel good to use at all and I found it better to keep my distance and spam arrows . One thing that a lot of people seem to really like about this is the story. I think it's fine. It's fairly generic with you needing to stop this cult from destroying the world. It is also very clear that the developers came up with the idea for robot dinosaurs
well before they thought of anything else. I think I might have enjoyed the story more if the cutscenes were hand animated and the didn't house some crappy automated lip sync thing that makes it look like two lifeless robots are talking to each other so that they didn't have to do as much work. It's honestly kind of distracting how bad it is since a good portion of the game is cutscenes. Despite all of this, I did somewhat enjoy my time with this game and managed to finish it by playing it on and off for about 6 months. With the complete edition for the game being only $20 now, I think everyone might as well play it, but in my opinion it's not all too great. Who knows, you might enjoy it way more than I did.

Empty open world with bad voice acting and repetitive missions. Seriously I don't understand why people like this game so much.
There's a variety of robots, each with their weaknesses and that's it really. Didn't find the game interesting or anything

I liked this game, I didn't love it. After about 20 hours, I started getting bored with it. The opening story, the main character, and the world building was great. I don't know if it was the games aesthetics or the amount you had to do, but after a time I struggled to stay interested. The unfortunate fact of Horizon is that most of what it does well, other games have done better, and they did it with a compelling who and where. This is the game you play after you’ve finished The Witcher 3, Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and Far Cry: Primal. It is the greatest hits compilation of open-world games. Yeah, sure, you might want to own it, but the real connoisseur has the original albums.

Horizon Zero Dawn has an unforgettable protagonist, world, story, visuals, soundtrack and gameplay. Due to minor issues with inventory management and quest selection, I cannot call it perfect but I can say it is absolutely worth your time.

There is enough spectacular action to keep you occupied for a couple of weeks, but Horizon is not the hot new killer app for PS4.
