Hitman GO really holds up well in the transition to the PlayStation. Anyone can pick this up and start solving the puzzles with reality ease, until the difficulty ramps up. The difficulty never jumps substantially but rather incrementally so you can learn new tactics. Quick yet rewarding platinum trophy.

HOWEVER Square Enix managed to present this game as an exquisite collection of 'puzzle boards'. Each level looks like a physical, tangible object with characters looking like real pieces. The graphics are perfect for what the game is. Even the time spent between levels can leave an impression of tangibility and class. You can actually look at the level selection screen and notice the 'storyline' of Agent 47 moving through a city or a place towards his target, across the many steps involved in the larger location. This is an ingenious way to present the puzzles. Everything in Hitman GO comes together for an elegant whole.

Gameplay is top notch. There is a minimum of repetition, and thus mostly fresh-feeling challenges constantly every time a new board is loaded. New puzzle pieces are frequently introduced, and by the campaign's end, a map can look more or less like a chess board, with the many rules involved for each enemy type. It's been years since I enjoyed long puzzle game sessions this much.

Each level has a few 'challenge conditions' for beating it, for example "No kills" or "Collect protected item". These provide enough replay value and challenge to really max out the game's potential value. I had some of my favorite moments of playing the game while I pondered and tested various strategies for completing under special conditions. I found that many of the puzzles gained extra puzzle depth from this.

Basically, yes this is Hitman done right, and puzzles done right. Original concept means I feel generous and give a 9/10.

I must admit that I was a little unsure when I heard that the Hitman series was coming to iOS (it has subsequently been ported to PC and Sony's consoles) but Square Enix have made a fantastic job of it. As well as crafting a genuinely enjoyable puzzle game they have also managed to make great use of the license and actually retain the feel and atmosphere of the Hitman games, and the board game style presentation only adds to the appeal.

With its short levels and quick restarts (should you fail) Hitman: Go is absolutely perfect for on the go gaming but it is also a good enough game in its own right to make it worth playing even on your home console.

Strip out all of the blood and gore from the Hitman franchise and what is left is truly a thinking man’s game. The developers certainly understand what the true charm of the series is and it is highlighted in this puzzle-take on the franchise.

While the new Hitman should get greater attention (deservedly so), GO! isn't a bad option for people looking for something more on the strategic side. What it lacks in bloodshed and insightful killing, it makes up for with strong level design and creative challenges to overcome. It's certainly something you could, ahem, kill time with.

Hitman Go is a unique take on the long-running Hitman franchise, breaking down the series to its core mechanics and delivering an enjoyable adventure.
