I love how well-made Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is. I love how stunning Miku is when she’s dancing around in VR. I love being able to put myself right in the middle of her concerts. For a traditional Miku game, I’ve got Project Diva X and Future Tone. That’s more than enough Miku gaming to last me months, if not years more. And now, courtesy of Virtual Reality, I have a completely different Miku experience to enjoy.

For those who love everything Hatsune Miku, it’s a great pickup and even for those who just don’t “get” it, check it out because it is something that can convert you into at least seeing the merit behind the concept.

Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is a bit of an odd duck, it's not a game in the traditional sense, but it's an interesting experience. The PSVR seems like the perfect home for Hatsune Miku, hopefully we'll see a proper game in the future.

Like many of the other VR experiences in this launch, Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is an impressive technical showcase that opens the imagination for future VR games, but is currently bereft of meaningful content or replay value.

Hardcore Hatsune Miku fans might find something redeeming here, but even then they won’t be getting much for their $15 or more they spent. Even within its limited scope of being a virtual concert, Hatsune Miku: VR Future Live is a disappointment.

Those expecting any sort of gameplay at all in exchange for their money are out of luck with Hatsune Miku: VR Future. It’s most assuredly one for the vocaloid’s superfans and even they may be disappointed, given the fleeting nature of the experience.

Really a 10/10 experience if you're goal is to have a good time with Miku-chan. Expand

This is a very nice concert simulator where you get to sit in the audience and watch a Hatsune Miku concert from any perspective you want. YouThis is a very nice concert simulator where you get to sit in the audience and watch a Hatsune Miku concert from any perspective you want. You default as sitting front row center but can move to different seats and you can sit way up in the cheap seats if you want. For Hatsune Miku fans this is already a must buy just for the experience.
However, the game is not without it's flaws. First, each concert consists of three songs and then an encore (encores are one on one songs that Miku sings just for you in a special room). For each of the three songs, the player can choose between 2 songs, so to hear all the songs, you will have to play through each concert at least twice. So, it makes for a short concert and with DLC, there are only three concerts in total. Miku's interaction with the audience between songs is very limited basically introducing herself and then asking which song you would like next. It would have been great to have a little more interaction between songs.
One annoying thing for me personally is during some songs, Miku will elevate onto a platform which then flies around to the cheap seats for a while. This forces the player to either watch the big screen located behind the stage or to teleport to the cheap seats to get a better view which breaks the immersion a little.
The sound is this game is very good and it sounds like a real concert environment. The audience looks like silhouettes of teenagers and they are all constantly waving glow sticks that I felt was sometimes distracting. You also have a glow stick which you can wave around and your glow stick can transform to other items if you catch hearts that occasionally come your way.
I would have liked a custom concert option where I could choose a set of songs to play one after the other rather than having to pick a song each time because sometimes I want to hear certain songs but I have to play through a couple of other songs first to get to it with no option to skip to the song I want to hear.
Several songs do not feature Miku at all, and are sung by some of the secondary characters. Given the very limited number of songs available, I would have preferred they all be Miku soings.
Overall, a very nice game that Hatsune Miku fans will love. This is very much an experience type game with very little to do other than enjoy the concert. You can wave your stick around and if you do that just right, you can unlock new outfits for Miku and she will even transform into her new outfit on stage as you shake your glow stick in time to the music.
