Happy Dungeons is worth a download. Its quirky style and accessibility make it a good on-and-off experience -- especially with a few friends by your side -- but weak dungeon design and poor presentation holds it back from being anything more than that.

    Happy Dungeons
    Free to Play done right
Happy dungeons is a free to play mini dungeon crawler where you can play online with up to 4 other plays or play in a private lobby alone…
though playing with others is a bit of a dice roll on weather or not things will be laggy..
luckily during my time playing I only had about 3 matches where the lags was almost unbearable…
the game play here is actually the worst part of this game…
There are 10 chapters here with an average of 5 to 6 missions each... and every last bit of this games campaign feels exactly the same from start to finish…
You can play as one of 3 classes, warrior, cleric, and mage… all of which level up together as you play so you can try them out at any time without feeling underpowered…
I quickly realized warrior was the class for me…
but the game is basically slice every enemy in the section of the map.. Move on... with the occasional maze level and boss to fight…
the combat is satisfying and fast enough, you have special attacks you unlock as your character levels up that you can use.. You can eventually bring a minion along to help in combat and heal you....
but the gameplay sort of just feels there... there is no real challenge, intriguing levels... It all feels the same. By itself it’s mediocre… there’s an infinite dungeon mode here which is about 15 times longer than a regular mission... where you can grind for levels and gear as its filled with enenmies and treasure rooms..
But still the gameplay by itself is pretty bland.
What makes this game actually good is its loot system and free to play system…
Finally a free to play game that doesn’t shove micro transactions or gem buying down your throat...
can you still buy those typical things of course... but the game does a great job of rewarding you just by playing
the game has something called happy jewels which you use to buy card packs which gives you 1 to 10 cards,.. You can buy happy jewels... the game seems to value a 10 pack at just under $20 which is a bit ridiculous to me, however I had no issue again earning these jewels by completing missions and challenges…
and enemies and chests within these 5 to 10 minute long missions drop plenty of gear for you to equip to your character and even better is that if you get items you don’t want you can use them to level up your gear, even if those items are for a different character class using your happy stars which you get plenty of in these missions as well..
This is where the hook is... this is where the fun is...
it isn’t in the dungeons... it’s in going into these dungeons that are tied to the campaign, getting all of its gear and happy stars and dumping them into your favorite item to make them out until you find something better…
you can even use your happy stars to buy cards as well, just without the guarantee of something decent like buying with happy jewels gives you
The dungeons again are pretty boring..
But the loot system is guaranteed to get its hooks in you
    I give Happy Dungeons
    a 7/10

Grinding for new and better gear is always fun. The dungeons themselves are definitely this games weak point. You will rarely see another player online if you want to play a specific dungeon, and will almost never see a full party of four. It works out the games favor though because every additional player adds to the lag considerably. I definitely would download this game to try out for the lot system or if you need an easy to pick up couch co-op game. The answer of humor and character designs almost completely make up for lack of game play variety. Expand
