It's an okay game. I really like the art style and game play. But what I don't like is how the story is just drip fed to the player. The game play is fun and how you get better weapons over time. But it gets boring after the tenth time or so. I got the platinum in about 80 runs.

The graphics are colorful and well-drawn, plus the characters are all interesting and given life with decent voice-acting. Controls are intuitive and responsive, movements are fluid, and load times between areas are tolerable. There are also a variety of weapons and skills to suit the style of the player, the bow is really fun so far. The only negative is the repetitive nature of the game that forces the player to grind, but its not as bothersome due to the fast-paced action, variety of monsters, traps and rewards. There is also a "handicap" system, that allows the player to customize various difficulty options to earn important items to unlock weapon abilities, and gift to each character to advance their own story lines. Overall, Hades is a superb quality game from Supergiant, well worth the price and sets a benchmark for future games.

Update: After 50+ "deaths", finally reached the ending, the story is well told that even the game credits will keep you watching. And will keep playing the game to unlock more story lines and weapon aspects.

Heard it was a really great game. Turns out it isn't. Repetitive gameplay, disagreeable protagonist and annoying characters, plot plays out like some fanfiction. Abuse dash, spam attack, this game is a certified button masher. In every run you fight the same bosses (slight variations of bosses aren't new bosses), go through the same bioms. Play Dead Cells instead.

An amazing game that won me totally over. It is an action RPG / rouge-like game. You are playing Zagreus who is the son of Hades the Greek god of the underworld. Zagreus tries to escape his fathers realm. He is supported by his mother Nyx who even informed the other Greek gods that will help him. However there is far more to the story than it seems at first. You will discover secrets, reveals, twists and know your family, friends, acquaintances and other gods better. I must praise the characters and writing. The Greek legends are full of conflicts between the gods and those are all related to each other. This is transferred well into the game. They are like a family with a lot of problems. The game even won the literary Hugo Award to give you some perspective how good it is. For me this was amazing and I continued even after obtaining the platinum trophy to see the outcomes of some stories. It is well written, enjoyable and gives you always something to kept your interest. The gameplay is like I said a rouge-like RPG. You start each escape run with no abilities and advance through the rooms of the underworld. Each room has rewards like abilities, benefits, items or currencies. Sometimes you can chose between options. This was something I was worried about but it is not the weakness I thought. It is a true strength. In approx 100 runs I never encounter a truly weak set up. I discovered instead some amazing abilities, combinations and different options. Even some abilities I avoided first were good, some even worth reversing my opinion. For example: My least liked weapon became my favorite and the weapon I thought was best became my least used (The game has an interesting system in teasing you to chose different weapons). I admit that I use some abilities or better said set up more often but the different set ups keep it fresh. The next strength are the things you can unlock. There are so many helpful things. Be it new weapons, helpful rooms, appearing treasures, cosmetic set ups, abilities and bonuses. You always have new stuff to do or unlock. Rarely ever have I encounter a game that succeeds in keeping everything this fresh and enjoyable. Then there is the graphic. The art style is excellent and I like the hand draw graphics. For games like this I would always buy an artbook. The music is even better. You will encounter many awesome tracks and there are 2 characters who maybe give you some of the best songs in the game. To round up this experience I did not encounter a single serious bug or glitch. Overall this is my favorite game of the year and deserves my full praise. Never have I encountered a game that keeps being this refreshing from start to finish. Be it the story or gameplay everything is excellent and well thought out. Even the difficulty is correctly balanced as god mode gives you more resistance with each death until you don't die easily. A well thought out system. An easy 10/10 for me. Expand

I found fun the jokes and humor for the most part but they felt directed too much for angsty teenagers and a weird mix with the supposedly epic Greek drama. That mix didn’t work well for me.

The gameplay is solid with different weapons that allow for replayability and the random generation of “dungeons” keeps it fresh for a while, if you play long enough it starts to feel samey though.

Hades is a very fun game to play for a while before it gets repetitive but not the masterpiece I was expecting.

Hades is an engrossing Greek mythology tale gradually told throughout each escape attempt through the underworld. People have said this is one game that even players who hate roguelikes could get into, and now that I've been playing it for myself I know they were right, partly thanks to an optional accessibility feature that makes dying less stressful. Hades is one roguelike I'll always be happy to do another run at...or two, or ten. It's an endlessly replayable addiction. Expand

Then the game tells you to do it again and again for the 'real' ending. Even playing 3 hours more I didn't make progress with any characters, you don't even know if you'll find that item out there, or if the character you want to talk to will even be around!

The combat is that serviceable and then bland feeling Supergiant combat with that same Deviantart.com art style. The music is the same bland music they always have.

You feel addicted to wanting to upgrade your relationships, home, and character, and the combat to do it feels like a bland and stressful slog, as it is often a gangbang-bullethell game.

Playing for half and hour or so, my thoughts were meh, similar gameplay to this already done in other games. Playing on I grew to like it more and more as I liked the mechanics and the game threw in further suprises as you played on. Good voice acting and dialogue which wasn't boring or a chore to read. Up there with dead cells as top tier indies.

There are so many different upgrades and builds to keep the gameplay fresh in every run, and the difficulty is extremely balanced. If you find yourself in trouble, you can activate God Mode to make things a bit easier.
Hades' story is surprisingly intriguing and it has a satisfying conclusion.
The characters are fantastic because they're very likable and diverse; the portrayal of the Gods is wonderful.
The art style is amazing and it feels fluid, and the music is awesome.
Also, the attention to detail, the amount of different dialogue and the side-events in Hades keep the game captivating consistently.
Lastly, the most fascinating thing about Hades is how it utilizes the concept of Roguelike games; dying in Hades is not only a part of the progression system, but it's a part of the narrative as well.
