I had high hopes for this game , but i felt slightly disappointed, the addicting taste is present( but not as big as fortnite),but the map looks dull and not interesting, and the gunplay is not as good as i thought ,and even feels clunky

Great start for an open beta! Really easy to be critical of the game but when people slate it for being not complete given its in beta then that is a bit ridiculous.

The gameplay is great. The look and feel is post apocolyptic which is what they are going for and generally there are very few bugs for a beta. Its great to play a battle royale game on PS4 without being blinded by childish

Its great to play a battle royale game on PS4 without being blinded by childish cartoon characters and having to build tree houses to win. As for the critics who claim "its nothing on PubG", really.... because the original H1Z1 king of the hill was created by the PubG creator. They are essentially the same game.

    Great start.

Not including the server issues as a lot of games are plagued with this on release, i actually enjoyed this
What makes this a bit different from fortnite to me is the pace. I think you get to do more in a shorter space of time than in other BR type games.

    What I don't like:
-the drop into the map (let us at least choose a quadrant)
-While i like the simplified inventory, switching weapons in the middle of a gunfight is horrific, -switching weapons in general is horrific
-car damage physics on your own and opponents cars is laughably bad.
-still a big fan of attaching my own stuff to guns, that is not an option here
-as far as i can tell, car on car damage is not present so its too easy for people to hide behind their own car
-shotguns still have too much range
    -no duos yet??
-some game changing bugs/glitches, which I am sure will be fixed over time
-it is free, so there are gonna be cheaters---

Overall, I really do enjoy this game...it's sort of a PUBG Lite...much easier controls. I purchased the pre-order bundle and I will continue to support these devs. This imo is a pretty underrated game.

+ I like the fact that your parachute jump location is random each time.
+ I like the that the only way to get the best weapons is from supply drops/crates, this creates a "rat race" to a supply drop when you see one incoming from the air.. It keeps the action flowing nicely, it means players can't just sit in a bush/building hiding all game while the rest of the participants take each other out.
+ The aim assist isn't as strong as Fortnite
+ Can pick up head armor and body armor, If you take a headshot wearing head armor, your head armor will deplete before your health does, same for body armor. It's a nice touch. You see someone wearing head armor but no body armor, you wanna shoot them in the chest and not the head so there health goes down straight away.

    Dislikes:
    - The aiming down sights needs tuning, it can feel a bit floaty at times, you either aim too far left or too far right, needs to be more responsive/fluid.
    - The graphics aren't amazing, and everything is a bit bland / dull looking.
    - Switching weapons isn't efficient enough, you can press a button to switch weapons, or hold down the button for a radial wheel, the problem is, if you only press the change weapon button, you can't see which weapon you're switching to until it's switched. The only way to see which weapons you're holding is via the radial wheel (unlike Fortnite where all your weapons are displayed in the bottom right corner, so you know how many times you need to press the switch weapon button to get to that weapon). It's got me killed a few times where I've been frantically trying to switch to my shotgun close quarters but I've pressed the switch weapon button too many times not knowing which slot the shotgun is in.
    - As far as I can see, you can only tell which weapons are better by their colour (White, Green, Blue, Purple etc) .. I may be wrong but I can't see any stats on the weapons to show DPS, Range, Reload Speed etc.. so it makes it difficult to tell whether you're swapping a weapon for a better or worse one.

I prefer this to Fortnite because it's more raw and realistic. The game is no where near perfect, needs a lot of tweaks, especially with the aiming mechanics, they feel a bit janky at the moment when aiming down sights, but for what this game is, I think it's worth a 7.5. If they iron out quite a few things I'd definitely be giving 9 (for what it is).

At least on console, I haven't tried the PC version, and granted, I feel that the duo are different, the console version is by far, the worst out of them all. The game had a few bugs that, while they could be discrete, weren't, for example the ability of getting into building and the game thinking there is no controller in play, when there is, this resulted in my selecting exit game, only to find out that actually fixed the problem. Another problem I have is directly linked to the game at launch. I played the game at launch, hence this review, but, much like an anticipation for something like Half-Life and Steam or World of Warcraft, the servers were almost near occupation, meaning millions who wanted to play online in the world of H1Z1, couldn't because of the awfully done servers. This was the worst part about the game, the annoying servers, the controls, and the wall clipping, yet, there were a few minor things that I didn't like either, for example the near-floaty gun shooting when in aim mode. The incredibly long loading screens, and the way you get onto the map, which is not leaping from a plane or a battle bus, just skydiving, not even skydiving, just using a parachute to land your way down. Which could also be fixed since the camera stick is used as the "gliding down" ability, where you glide downwards. instead of using the moving stick, the one that moves your character, even in the air. At the start is probably the 2nd longest time spent at the start of the game with next to nothing to do, at around 30 seconds. While I shouldn't be beating it hard since "its still in early access (or open beta)" That's STILL inexcusable, hell, Fortnite and PUBG were in early access, but at least both games worked! I am happy the game is free and I didn't have to pay, because if I did, I would've demanded for a refund by now. despite the free price tag, I suggest you wait before playing this game, and even if you want to play it now, at least play it on PC, its actually way better than this. I'm also not interested in playing the Xbox One or Mobile Versions, as questionable as they are, and as annoyed as I am. Expand

As a alternative to Fortnite, this is actually pretty good! I like how fast the matches play out, and the gunplay is pretty satisfying, although I think the ads could use a little fine tuning. The map isn't very interesting either.. but these are things that could all improve as time passes, but for now I think it has translated over to Ps4 pretty well! Runs pretty good on my PS4 slim.

This game is not finished. The textures and graphics are horrible. The controls are horrible for parachuting and driving. Plus the transaction form third to first person is unbearable. They is no variety in the types of weapons that you are able to play with. Plus the customisation within the game is terrible. Almost 80% of the items looks the exact same.

The ps4 version is really bad. Terrible controls, terrible graphics and overall lags. You'd rather play cod Blackout or Fortnite instead. You can't even set the sensitivity properly. Your max aiming sensitivity is equal to 50% overall sensitivity, what makes dynamic gameplay almost impossible.

I didn't want to review this game while it was in early access, but after picking the game back up after the full launch, I cannot excuse the issues it has.
First off, the game's map is very, very ugly to look at, and I am someone who doesn't think that graphics is everything, but I don't think a PS4 game should look like an Late PS2 - Early PS3 title.

Another thing that needs to be put in consideration when reviewing games is gameplay, and there are 3 main things that make up the core of H1Z1.
    1) Weapons (Guns and grenades primarily)
    2) Vehicles
    3) The Gas
The gas is fine, it functions like it should do and it doesn't bug out or anything like that as far as I've noticed except. The only complaint I have of the gas/zone system will be addressed later.
The Vehicles are clunky but function okay. They certainly aren't the worse vehicles in games, and if I had to pick between using the shopping carts in Fortnite (which is a game i very much enjoy and I believe is a much better game btw) or the police cars or jeeps in H1Z1, i'd have to pick the Police cars or Jeeps.
The main issue in gameplay is the guns. Oh my god I hate these guns. They are incredibly clunky and not at all fun to use. They all feel very generic and unoriginal. They are a chore to use in matches and people will often run instead of fight because they don't want to get into gun fights.
Another issue is something that the game advertises itself with and I disagree with. The first line on the PS4 store page for the game is "H1Z1: Battle Royale is a pure, fast-paced battle royale shooter re-imagined and built for console". While a majority of that statement is true, I cannot disagree more with the fact that it says "fast-paced". This game is anything but fast-paced. The issue is that it drops you off in a random, player-less area with basic loot and, if you're lucky, a crappy buggie that flips over every 5 seconds. It's super slow-paced, and you can go through early and mid-game without even hearing a gunshot. It's super dull.
While you can go through early to mid game without any action, you are sure to find some in the late game, which is 20> players still alive. So is this any better, well yes, until you get to the later zones. These zones are often just overlapping a small part of a random forest, which the only cover is trees. And this is not good as you cannot make your own cover and destroy cover, so you are pinned down for 5 minutes, often for it to end with someone getting shot in the back with a shotgun, which isn't satisfying for both the winner and the loser, and the latter will get most likely angry at the shoddy gameplay and it doesn't encourage the player to load into another game.
The servers aren't that great, but most main titles servers are often crappy. I'd even argue that H1Z1 servers are better than the likes of Fortnite.
Overall, this game is not enjoyable. The guns are clunky and unoriginal. The game looks like an Late PS2/ Early PS3 title and the game, although advertised to be a fast paced experience, is quite the contrary. The Zone is okay except for really late game (around 5 people left) and vehicles (except for buggies) are fine, but these aren't enough to paper over the cracks. If you want to get into a free to play experience and you are considering H1Z1 over the massively popular and addicting game Fortnite because it is more realistic, don't. Fortnite is a fun game, which has it's issues, sure. But the game is fun and addictive.

Being the first battle royale game may have been enough a few years ago, but in the current market where Fortnite is the biggest thing in the world, it takes greater ambition than “ugly but functional” to stand out. The best thing I can say about H1Z1 is that it’s free, but even so, I still can’t recommend it when its biggest competition is also free and offers a far better version of this same premise.
  2. Aug 18, 2018

H1Z1 doesn't shake up the battle royale formula in any big way, but instead offers a simple, streamlined experience. It differentiates itself from its PC counterpart to its benefit by revamping the core systems at play, giving you just enough to work with in battle without being overwhelmed. But it's still missing diversity in its action that would create lasting appeal.
  3. Aug 17, 2018

Compared to H1Z1 on PC, this port is not only technically worse off, but the generally superficial battle royale is also limited in terms of content, thus influencing tactics and tension on the battlefield.
