Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2

It’s a deep, complex, stylish game that blows every other fighter out of the water, but made surprisingly accessible through things like the Stylish control scheme and a Combo/Mission modes that serve to teach useful, practical combos and strategies. It’s still got its RPG-like M.O.M mode that lets you level up and customise your character, it’s still got an eccentric but oddly moving story, and it’s still got the sort of kickass soundtrack that only Daisuke Ishiwatari can come up with.

A gorgeously content rich 2D brawler with style to spare, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 puts some extra shine on one of the best fighting games available. This is one utterly essential brawler.

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 isn’t the final version of this amazing fighting game, but the most complete one at the moment. The new characters are amazing and well balanced with the rest of the cast, and the overall gameplay is still over the top.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is one of the best fighting games available today and one that is brilliant for both newcomers and veterans alike.

Technically wonderful, rich in content and playable on multiple levels of depth, Guilty Gear XRD Rev 2 is again able to compete with the most prominent competitors of the genre.

Guilty Gear Xrd is possibly the best fighter out right now. It took three tries to round up this cast (and you can bet your bottom dollar there will be DLC or a Rev 3), but the cycle is complete.

For newcomers, Rev 2 is the most complete Guilty Gear game to date – but be warned: this is a game you’ll have to put time into to truly appreciate. It’s a good job, then, that it provides all the tools necessary to do this.

Solid update with new characters, new and important balance changes and the same mechanics and modes as its predecessor. Probably the best fighting game nowadays.

Guilty Gear Rev 2 is a fine update to Revelator that takes an already superb base game, adds some great characters into the mix and refines the fighting engine even further. It still has certain accessibility issues that any game this complex is bound to have , but there’s still nothing quite like Guilty Gear on the market when it comes to delivering high speed battles mixed with awesome visuals and great music.

While Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 challenge each other for the title of modern beat-em-up king, Arc System Works focuses on what they can do best: Deliver a retro-infused slugfest with top notch balancing and one of the most intriguing audiovisual designs in a fighting game yet.

Even better than its predecessor, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 offers a lot of variety and a complex battle system that will keep fans busy for a very long time.

Visual excellence, sound virtuosity and great playability, but a little short of content. Adds two new characters, adjusts the game mechanics and adds new history to the cinematic and arcade mode. Despite all this: still is one of the best fighting games of this generation.

The best version of one of the best fighting games in the last few years. If you already have Revelator, the changes might look minor, but if you don't (or if you don't have the game at all), it's definitely worth it.

The story has some small, unparalleled sections, but this does not seem to be enough to overcome the fate of a modest, somewhat impassioned, sometimes monotonous and distant frenzy that has made the brand famous.

It's still the best fighting game around, and the "new" characters are great, but it's not as big an update as Revelator, and the new story scene that follows the ending makes one thing clear: it's not going to be the last.

Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 may be more of the same, but it's still, undoubtedly, an exciting and intense fighter through and through.

All in all, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2 is a welcome upgrade for fans that own the previous iteration (they even get a discount), and an especially meaty experience for newcomers, even if the story will be far ahead of their level of understanding. With Injustice 2 and Tekken 7 falling in the same month, it’s been a heck of a comeback for modern fighting games.

Rev 2 has a lot of new content for returning players to dig into for a low cost, and the Guilty Gear Xrd package as a whole should be enticing to newcomers, even if Rev 2 itself doesn’t have a whole lot of new things for them to do. The fighting is fast, complex, and fun, and it features one of the best on-ramps for fighting games this generation. If you have a penchant for anime, belt buckles, and an endless love of guitar metal, Rev 2 has a lot to offer.

At its core, Rev 2 is more or less the same game as Revelator. While that might seem like a damning statement at first, given the excellence of the original, it’s not entirely a bad thing. Still, I must confess that there is a creeping feeling that this glorified update is lacking in content, though the discounted full price and the option to purchase an upgrade for owners of Revelator makes it easier to recommend. Here’s to a more substantial installment for the next iteration of Guilty Gear.

This revision of the Ark System Works’ game brings new characters, scenarios and an improvement of ots gameplay mechanics. Everything that we could ask for in this “new” game.

Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2 is being published both as a standalone title with the full package (at a bargain compared to other just launched fighters) as well as a DLC pack for half the price for owners of the last game. Because of this, existing fans and newcomers are both getting the best deal. This is a title that comes highly recommended to anyone with a penchant for fast, flashy fighters on the 2D plane. While the genre isn’t hurting for options at the moment, this is a game that can hold its own against any challenger, as long as it doesn’t ask me to play as Answer.

Guilty Gear is a hardcore fighter, both to its benefit and its detriment. On the one hand, fighting game players will adore Guilty Gear for its fast paced gameplay, beautiful art style and deep tools for learning advanced techniques, but for anyone not either immersed in fighting games or the Guilty Gear series it’s a tough, if not impossible sell. A wonderful game, but not one likely to earn any new fans.

Easy to play but far harder to master, Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2‘s cast of ridiculous characters, improbable moves, heavy rock soundtrack and accessible fight mechanics will keep you engaged and challenged.

Guilty Gear Xrd: Rev 2 builds upon an already fantastic fighter, and those previously invested will no doubt appreciate the various additions and alterations. Guilty Gear's knack for combining incredible style with deep, almost open-ended combo-based gameplay is as impressive as ever, even if this isn't the most robust of expansions.
