    Best game I played this generation, story and gameplay was amazing. Bought the game on release date and the money I paid for it was totally worth it. This game is a must play.

    How does a franchise reinvents itself and still brings so much content and good quality to the table at the same time? I don't really know, but the developers of God of War sure do, because they made a masterpiece in form of a game. The God of War trilogy was very great, but this fourth main installment just knocks it out of the park. A brilliant game

    The camera seamlessly runs throughout the whole game in one shot, this alone makes the game incredibly immersive and has left me wanting in other games. Both Kratos and the ‘Boy’ Atreus have fantastic arcs, with a very compelling story. The voice acting is very good.

    2018 Best GOTY.
    Those who haven't done their previous work can also indulge in the mythical Nordic worldview with their delicate camera structure and immersive action, complete deconstruction with the new IP and perfect scenario with the implication of the sequel, literally godgame. It's sad that there's no dlc, but enough volume, including bosses and the second half of the world, is satisfying.

    God of War is a masterpiece in every way. It sends you on a breath taking journey through Norse mythology with compelling protagonists, incredibly efficient gameplay and a beautiful, human story.

It isn't really a reboot but a sequel that evolves on the previous games in the series.This is one of the best game ever. I experienced every system in the game, and there are nothing new in the game. But Balance, between contents and scenario, is amazing more than Last of us. It is perfect for me, and I can recommend this game who love story-based game or action game.Pretty much everything Ive ever wanted from a God of war game.     This game is a masterpiece, i played the whole saga, and this is the best! The storytelling, the graphics, the gameplay mechanics are game-changers, I really enjoyed every minute. Accomplishing the platinum trophy, was one of the best feelings I ever had from a game. This is the best game of the Generation period.

    This is the best game i ever played.The story-telling , the combat system , graphics all of that is superb.Sure the enemies are repetitive like the troll or ogre who are the same but with different colour or the kill animations that are very repetitive.I hope the developers will notice that and will make a perfect game.10/10

    A console defining game, which improves on and polishes every aspect of the genre. With great story telling (including the one take camera, which isn't simply gimmicky, but integral to the story telling), great characters. A game I didn't want to end! You should not only buy this game, but pre-order the next.

    Near-perfect game. Only issue is some lack of variety within the sub bosses, but the combat is fun enough to invalidate this. Basically impossible to fault.

    A completely immersive experience with refreshingly new action and a story that submerges the player in an emotional rollercoaster of a story. Kratos now has something to lose, Atreus. He can't be careless and reckless anymore like he used to. The combat adds adds alot of new ideas while still keeping its gruesome combat. This is a game every gamer has to play .

    Every parent has a hard job raising their kids, Kratos a man, a god, that "did some things" in his past has an even harder job in raising his son. I have cried playing this game...

Taking points from The Last of Us and adding the story in Norse Mythology was a bold but awesome choice.     Everything in this game is amazing. Since the start to the end. The story were extremely nice written with caution and love from Director. You can see that it was made with details and respect to the previous games, the saga trully conects in everything. An AWESOME piece from games story. Can't wait to the next one.

    This game is a MUST play for PlayStation exclusive. Sony really left a dent on my wallet but they totally deserved the money. Avid God of War fan since PS2 period.     Gameplay: GOW always gets it right. Even it is different but it still feels good.
    Story: The Narrative and the character development were excelent.
    Presentation: Great graphic and environment + Epic GOW style fight scenes.
    World Building: Switching to Norse setting was a really great move. Exploration and mini-open world were super engaging.
    Quest: Really good transition. Side quests were so good they don't feel like optional activities. It gave so much depth to the all the characters and it was well done.
    Characters: Kudos to all the actors and animators for the great performance. Em feeling trains.    … Expand

    As a gamer i enjoyed this game a lot, this is what you always wanted when you were a kid and wanted photorealistic games to be a reality. This game is just a masterpiece, its violent but beatiful at the same time, the story is very good, kratos is a very depth and awesome character and i highly recommend this game, its a must have.

    One of, if not the, best games I have ever played. Everything is crafted to perfection with interesting characters and plots, enthralling landscapes and the best weapons I have ever used in a video game. Fully utilizing the PS4 to it's maximum capabilities, God of War captivates and truly cements its place as one of the greatest PS4 games ever made.

    This game was had such a good story my wife was asking me every night if we could play more of it, Kratos, Atreus and every character were so well crafted it was hard to put the game down. The game play was also challenging but rewarding especially the fights with the Valkyrie which could be very hard. There wasn't a thing about this game i could say that is negative.

This game did the impossible and brought what I thought was somewhat stale Hack and slash franchise that I thought was dead or atleast very outdated and revamped it into a masterpiece The graphics look gorgeous and the combat is satisfying and has a real sense of impact that I think the last games were lacking.

    Which is probably due too the camera being above Kratoses shoulder which brings you closer too the action. But the main thing that impressed me is how they revamped our beloved kratos and made him into a character that has more emotion than before, I’m not saying that he didn’t have any emotion or depth in the previous games but it’s more maturely done in this game. The story is good and well written. But the one thing I wish they had was more enemy diversity, because often enemies you fight are just the exact same thing or atleast a variation or sub-class of a previous enemy. You often find yourself fighting the same enemy types. Which isn’t bad due too combat being so damb good.
    Very very late review all things considered but, I thought maybe this could help anybody who was thinking of picking up this masterpiece at a later date or during a sale. Definitely worth a buy    … Expand

    Fantastic game. I don't see how anyone can hate this game. There is a really good story and a good ending. The characters have depth and you want to know more about them. They do a nice blend of RPG and action. The ways you can customize your play style are really cool. There is also good end game content to keep you engaged. Best game of the year.

    Very good game! I could feel the amount of hours put in this game, it feels so much polished and detailed. Awesome visuals, good story, little things here and there, amazing dialogues between plot progression and even after the game completion.
    The fighting mechanics are somewhat boring though. They look amazing, but not that interesting to actually play. Not bad though, just not up to    Very good game! Fighting mechanics is definitely the weakest point of this great game. Also, those enemies staying up in the air to be comboed a la Japanese slasher games - those enemies look just ridiculous and ruin a serious tone of the game.
    Overall 8, and +1 for awesome cinematic experience, amazing dialogues and sheer quality of everything in this game (except button mashing slasher mechanics of course).    … Expand

    One of the best game of PS4. Very good looking game, the story is great, the gameplay is very good. There is a big step from the last god of war. I can't wait for the next one.

    I decided to play it since the recent "Best videogame ever" statement (or award?) was thrown out there about God Of War. Wow, talk about a daring call to play it, right? So i scrounged my backlog and decided to give it a chance. Despite how bitter I may be about the game, I think there are a lot of good, perfect things about it, like its story and character development. Sadly, this shares around 50% of the time and focus of the experience, hence this score: 5/10. This obviously means that the gameplay, whatever this hot mess is supposed to be, is absolutely and categorically garbage.

    Who took this game to this strange hack & slash/RPG direction and/or combination that has you min maxing your character more than playing the game? Who thought it was good to give the players a million collectibles and customizations and upgradables instead of giving us character levels? Why the hell does the game pause you at ever second to give a tutorial about upgrading your weapons and armor but doesn't tell you that you have combat abilities?
    This game for some reason starts with a sort of Uncharted-esque style of level to then give you a somewhat open world and a overhead compass, which I hate and thought was idiotic, given the simplicity of the levels and the genre of the game, and gives you side missions that lead you to places you're not supposed at your current "level" only to get bent over by common overleveled enemies. So, what is the point of giving me freedom of movement when I can't face and unlock the things I see in the world? Making me go back as if this was a final fantasy or a dragon quest even though it's less than them but also not as much as a hack & slash as others? Who tf thought this was a good idea for a satisfying gameplay?

    The UI is also dreadful. A menu that closes the moment you want to go up a level in this submenu hell impossible to comfortably maneuver or that leaves you stucked in a tutorial about the millionth upgrade and blocks your inputs until you press X, X, R1 and square to equip your +3 attack cock-ring that won't save you from the skull purple enemies that one-hit kill you. What an absoiute mess.

    Ever since I was a teenager I was very into Norse mythology but I understand this is just an imagining inside the world of God Of War, so I don't have much to say regarding the art direction and the roles of the gods and Kratos in the game, I just want to say it's nothing special. I also thought that the depiction of Baldur was pretty offensive, not in the "I'm a snowflake and think this is culturally degrading", but as in "why tf is a messiah, Jesus Christ-like figure like Baldur portrayed like a drunk assholish lackey of Odin? He was his SON and not only that, his favourite one. Yes, his favourite son. Pick up a book, Studio Santa Monica".

    Overall, I think game should get the award "Most overrated mediocre game because we're frothing at the potential second coming of another videogame messiah" Award.
    Do you want to play a hack & slash? Pick up like Bayonetta or a Devil May Cry. Need an RPG? Think Persona, Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest. Need a Norse Mythology fix? Pick up a book about the Norse Eddas or one of the Joanne M. Harris books. Just don't play this hot mess, and if you need to play crap like this, at least don't praise it as the second coming of videogame Christ because it is only like being approach by a homeless junkey that's trying to get a couple dollars from you for another fix at Walmart. A man who defeats Zeus, the God of all Gods, in this part becomes so weak that he can barely handle some minor enemies, while his son who supposed to be weak, can't even get hurt and there is nothing you can do about it: you may collect all the treasures, you may upgrade precisely all your weapons and you are still vulnerable. They wanted to do something new, I get the idea, but it just doesn't make any sense, it reminds me of Terminator Dark Fate, where they tried to show T800 to be more like a human, by portraiting him as a boyfriend of some woman. I am not convinced by this kind of experiments. At all. Not to mention that the dialogues in this game are shallow and boring. Just let people have fun again. God of War was always ridiculous but at least it made you smile and this game is just making me tired and angry and even beautiful graphic fx can't compensate it. I don't recommend this game.… Expand

    Wow didn't expect to love it this much! Avoided playing it for very long thinking it wasn't my type because I don't prefer fantasy but boooy I absolutely love this game. They managed to make it in a way so that all gamers love it. Great job!

    Let's start with the fact, that the new rendition went completely against the established franchise gameplay, which is a massive no-no for me. If the developer wanted to develop a souls-like game in the GoW universe, they should've gone with a spin-off and left Kratos alone. Instead, they simply spat in collective face of all fans who enjoyed the well-established formula.

    As I mentioned, the combat in this rendition is souls-inspired. But boy (pun intended), is it lacking! Combat can be described as repetitive, boring, flaky and unimaginative. It's bad. I mean, it's really bad. Blocking often doesn't block, parrying often doesn't parry, dodging often doesn't dodge. Often you get hit by enemies well outside of contact range, or facing the other way. There were times there were no attack animations whatsoever, so the only thing you could see was an enemy standing still and you taking damage. Horrible camera suspended right behind the main protagonist isn't helping, and enemies often race past to get behind you, only to attack you while your back is turned - and you can't do anything about it. It's a luck-based combat system, not skill-based like in Souls. Generally, prepare to get hit by tons and tons of unavoidable, unblockable and undodgeable attacks. Fanboys will shout that everything is avoidable, to which I say: not with the combat's level of flakiness, glitchiness and bugginess. To add insult to injury, the system was "designed" to put you in a massive disadvantage compared to your enemies. Your attacks get interrupted all the time, but you will have an extremely hard time trying to interrupt your enemies' offensives. Picking up health boosts during a fight works maybe 30 per cent of the time, due to messy and buggy animation frames. Does it even need mentioning that most enemies are massive damage sponges, and your "god of war" does nearly no damage? Yeah...

    Due to absolutely horrible combat, there practically isn't any difference between different difficulty levels. The hardest is simply the same torture you get on previous levels, only battles are longer, because enemies are absolute damage sponges. Kratos is supposed to be a god of - it's right there in the bloody title. Yet he stammers and takes 2 minutes to kill a basic bloody zombie, then suddenly goes back to former glory when facing off with the first boss, only to go back to an utter wimp straight after that. It just makes no sense. I would never say the game is "challenging" in a good way. It's only challenge is best described as finding balance between your annoyance level versus the amount of money you paid for it.

    The Boy. Ah, the Boy. He wasn't supposed to be annoying. And yet - here we are. His constant nagging, **** being rude and disrespectful - not only to NPCs, but to his father as well - is absolutely blood boiling. And according to the writers, who seem to be complete disconnected from reality, Kratos is just taking the abuse from the little brat with patience of a monk. How politically correct can you actually get? Kratos is a brutal, egotistic, proud and hateful god. And the game is trying to tell me he's suddenly a candidate for a father of the year? It's naive at best. Not to mention it's trying to re-tell a story of the most boring, standard, done-a-million-time-over type of a relationship there is, and it's not doing it very well.

    There's other stuff to complain about, too. The interface is lackluster and unreadable. There is a setting to increase font size, that does nothing at all. Default keymap is just moronic - I can't see any reason for having attacks on right bumper/trigger instead of good 'ole square/triangle. Fortunately you can change this. Map is useless and RPG elements are pointless, tedious and annoying.

    There are a couple of things I did enjoy a lot though. First of all, the game is absolutely visually stunning. It's truly close to being a pinnacle of PS4 graphics optimization, and artistic style is fantastic as well.

    Secondly, the huge amounts of Nordic/pagan folklore in the game is an absolute treat for people who enjoy discovering other cultures, mythologies, etc. My exposure to Nordic mythology was limited at best before playing this game, and now I'm very keen on discovering more of it.

    Overall, it could've been a great game, if it didn't focus on Kratos, had tight combat mechanics and maybe wasn't trying to tell a naive, politically correct story when there are other games doing who have told it in a much better way. It would still be some distance away from perfect, but much closer to the 8-9/10 that most of those suspiciously optimistic reviews are currently giving it.

    There are two main character kratos and BOYYYYYYYY. What can I say the combat amazing the graphics amazing the actors performances are amazing. This is a great game. The moment I heard that one of my friend is trading god of war for the last of us I just thought she/he was trading boy for Ellie and my day was ruined

The game mechanics are so borrowed from Naughty dog but they just don't fit the game at all. The kid is so annoying at times that when he keeps calling you with patronizing prompts in the middle of a boss fight, it justThis game is so bad.     I bought this game to have fun and instead I am insanely frustrated with no way to upgrade anything and already on easy mode. I get one shot killed by enemies that were easy the rest of the game. the difficulty spike is ridiculous and I am considering snapping my disc. This game gets a 0 out of 10 in my book.

    Truly a masterpiece for any god of war fan or really most people in general it's hard not to love this game the character development in God of War is so much better than we've ever seen in previous titles I was completely captivated by the story the entire time I played and couldn't put it down until I got the platinum.
    I cant wait for the sequel

    Cory Barlog and his team achieved what many thought impossible – despite having changed almost everything Santa Monica managed to preserve that elusive spark that makes God of War game feel like a God of War game. They created one of the defining titles of the current generation and a technical marvel whose stunning beauty in motion words cannot describe. And there’s one more thing. Barlog’s touching reaction to his masterpiece’s scores shows that even in the world of huge budgets, micropayments, loot boxes and sales forecasts there still is a place for artists who pour their hearts into their work.
