Giga Wrecker does some things great, but lacks in others, though. This Game Freak's side scrolling action game uses smartly their physics-based environmental puzzles, but has some issues in a very visible way. Although they are interesting boss fights, the result is far from remarkable.

Giga Wrecker Alt. proves to be solid in the concept, less solid in its execution, with commands and hitbox that are not always accurate. A pleasant story is followed by a not always clean graphic style and a forgettable soundtrack. The final result satisfies, but risks not making its mark.

Game Freak's Giga Wrecker Alt. shows that the developer has a knack for character-driven platformers. Utilizing an array of tools and physics to progress is satisfying. It's especially fun to discover solutions that weren't intended by the developers. Creativity goes a long way in this adventure. However, while the PS4 version adds a few extras over its PC counterpart, the halved frame-rate is really disappointing.

Giga Wrecker Alt. is a physics-based puzzle platformer that falls down in the same places as most games in the genre, but with interesting characters an intriguing story, it's a decent game on the whole. Just be aware that the difficulty is real, so if that’s a deterrent, consider yourself warned.

Giga Wrecker Alt. is an exceptionally unique game that expertly combines action and puzzles. However, the fact that its gameplay simply doesn't accommodate for what it's trying to accomplish makes it an often irritating and disjointed experience.

Unfortunately, this is a 2D platformer that incorporates semi-realistic physics, and is an excellent case study in why those two things don’t always mix. While we enjoyed the puzzle design overall, one particular quandary really ground our gears. [Issue#163, p.86]

It could have been a really well-made puzzle-platformer but somehow, the developer decided to settle with less, even though the console version is a second take on the game. There are obvious improvements over the PC original but the core issues of inaccurate controls and shifty physics still remain. Sad, really, as I so wanted to love this game.

Giga Wrecker Alt is an interesting idea let down by frustrating control issues and poorly executed physics.
