I've played a dozen or so gachas, and Genshin Impact is just average for the category. It doesn't have any major faults, but also doesn't stand out in any way whatsoever.

Combat is fairly boring. A majority of the enemies have invulnerability shields that need to be destroyed by using abilities from certain elements. So bullet sponges abound. Strong enemies also add in oversized explosions to their attacks, so you spend a lot of time running away. You're not really dodging at this point. It run away, and then run in briefly to attack, and then run away again. Managing stamina during a fight is pretty important, so it's very annoying that you can't toggle running on/off. You're forced to stop and pause for a moment to stop running. Did I mention that you spend a lot of time running away from enemy attacks in this game?

The gacha rate is very bad, and currency is fairly stingy. You may not need the fancy characters to complete content, but it really takes away the fun of pulling for characters when the rates are so low. Also, there are no 3* characters to get from the gacha. You just get a 3* weapon instead, which is typically converted to experience for an existing weapon. This really hurts new players and prevents them from trying out different weapon types and elements.

You're further restricted from experimenting with new characters by the world level. As you increase adventure rank, the creatures of the world level up. This keeps areas from becoming useless due to low levels, but also renders any new character you acquire as useless till you can level them up to the current standard of your team. At adventure rank 31, I need to level a character up to 50 (feeding them a bunch of materials to unlock those levels) before I can put them in a team and see how they play. This isn't a trivial matter, since all my resources right now get spent leveling my team of 4. There's not much to spare for raising a 5th.

Finally, after you've finished all of the quests, the game doesn't give you a lot of motivation to keep playing and improving your team. Normally, Gacha games have regular events to keep players engaged and logging in. The regular content updates is one of the things that makes Gacha games fun to play.

I could probably keep going on for another couple of paragraph ranting about all the various issues that this game has. The core concept of the game is nice and interesting, but they missed on a lot of the details that are needed to make the experience fun and enjoyable for the players.

Once you get out of the prolog though you realize all of the smoothness you experience then was a bait and switch when you hit the hard timewalls where the game asks you to wait weeks to level characters or pay money to shorten it to days. The content is quickly exhausted and there is nothing really repeatable outside of dailies that take around 5 minutes to finish in total.

The resin system (Mobile game energy mechanic) completely kills all momentum and makes 10 hours of play equivalent to 20 minutes of play in terms of progress and it is maddening. This game has so much potential but it is just completely eaten away by incredibly predatory mobile mechanics that just feel tacked on to the rest of the game.

I can live with the TERRIBLE gacha rates and the poor value for money spent there, but I cannot recommend to anyone a game that actively discourages you to play it.

    Benefits:
Keeps the habituation of daily log in to spend resin and progress adventurer rank.
Allows MHY to monetize resin refills for those who want to advance faster.
Promotes strategic use of resin when farming for certain items/artifacts.

You are gated in Vertical progression for your account but not horizontal progression of your characters within your current world levels respective loot tables and content.

(You know people are gonna be dropping gems on refills when they are farming specific sets or close to the next set of loot tables from adv rank ups)

Cheap BotW ripoff. Just because you import some of the mechanics doesn't mean the game is good. Interesting traversal mechanics like climbing and paragliding in a bland and uninspired world defeats the purpose of having them

Would be a good game, but the problems all start at AR 30-35 where the game becomes a chore and you have to wait for resin which is the stamina system that cripples the game.

(reviewed on PS4, PC, and Mobile. 30-60 Hours of gameplay, AR 41) (well, English is my second language, so i'm greatly sorry if there's a grammatical issues in this review, Enjoy!)

    1. Gameplay
Yes, i know, this game is highly inspired by BOTW, but here's the thing, there's a lot of uniqueness in this game's gameplay, like the complicated elemental influenced in the environment and combat, balancing gameplay between one characters to the other, and artefacts that you need to masteries on each role of your characters.

    2.Story
This game is, based of what i've been played, the best story for free to play game out there. each characters has their own story (even though still some of the characters, but it will be updated) the archon story (main story) is also complex and worth to follow, but.. this argument is only for Monstadt or prolog chapter, why? because the chapter 1 (half of it) and so on, still not yet been updated.. but still, prolog chapter is so long and it can take you like 5-15 hours to finish your activity in Monstadt. Not only story inside the game, but the lore, the other support materials outside the game, and the collectable books (or i can say, light novel) are also great.. overall, even thought archon story is not yet finish, but for free game, i was really amaze of what i get from it. but.. because the story is not yet finish, after AR 36 you most likely to feel empty and not much to do except for finish the daily quests and try to build your characters better.

    3.UI/UX.
when i first time watch SAO, the only thing that i want from that anime is the game that has the simple yet complex mechanism in their UI, somehow, i never actually find one, even in the "SAO the game". But, this game finally get it, they can show how the complex UI can be simplify by only "you know where to put it", like no longer big and useless button on your screen, the characters tab that simple and informative, and chat tab (thank god) that not fill your entire screen (especially for mobile) that make you cannot see what you want to see. Yes, there's still a lot miniscule issues in UI/UX, like no special "change party" button, no macro for food and power-up, and other little issues, this is ok for me, but many people have been let down by this issues.

    4. Scoring and World Environment
For free game, they really hire Beijing Orchestra to score this game, it makes me.. little bit guilty for play this game for free because the quality is on a par with other east-RPG games, well, fairly speaking, i found that some of the background sound music is similar with FF or NieR, but that's fine by me.

Liyue and Monstadt is full of content, a lot of things you can do and most of them are rewarding, from slaughter the hilichurls around the maps, and finish the random challenge. The beautifulness of the landscape of Liyue and the great city of Monstadt are one of selling points of this game, almost all NPCs has it's own story and background (just like the playable characters), like you can actually know every characters in Monstadt and their occupation so when you need something or you find something in the mission you can predict where it will be going.

    5.Political Issue and Gacha Mechanism
Look, i know you are all worry about how the most of the free games are pay to win, but for this game, it most likely play (and grind until you crazy) to win. the characters mostly balance, even 5 stars it doesn't matter, if you cannot play the characters then you cannot play the characters not because you don't have money to get better characters. I can say, you can actually play the game until AR 40 without gacha. Gacha itself is always guarantee you 4 stars of above if you purchased 10 times, so, don't worry for every free players out there, you still have a chance to get Klee. the only issue about this game that related to money, is maybe the resin, but don't worry, you will feel it in AR35 and above, so as long as you play this game just for fun, this problem might be not the big issue for casual players.

the real issue is, yeah.. political issue and everything about yourself is being supervise by the government of the place where mihoyo was born. but come on, even the US government know everything about yourself.. or other countries. Well, still this is the major issue for some people, so just keep in mind.

overall, this game in ver 1.0 is a great game, fantastic world, and wonderful story, and if you still feel this game is not for you, why didn't actually give it a try, it's free after all.. that's why, this game is solid 8,0 for me, i like this game and looking forward for the next update

The battle is interesting, especially the elemental reaction in this game. I love combining elemental reaction in a fight. The story, even though it is not the greatest story I have seen, but it is not that bad. The huge world can be a pro or a con for a player, as it would be interesting to explore the huge world, but also it is extremely exhausting to explore it.

Some people say that this game is not for F2P. I admit that we need money (and a lot of luck) to get the best characters and weapons in this game. Not to mention the resources needed to level up those characters and the weapons. But even without paying money, I still can enjoy this game a lot.

I'm AR 38 and haven't spent any money in this game. My team consists of 4 stars characters, my weapons can be forged at blacksmith, and I still can play most of the content in this game. Defeating the enemies took longer, sure, but that's all. Well, it is difficult to beat the time challenges (Abyss), but it is not a problem since even with somewhat weaker characters, I still can enjoy most of the content of the game.

However, even with all the pros I mentioned above, I still feel that the resin is bad. Like, really bad, that it makes an 8/10 game becomes a 6/10 game (or even less). I believe most people that play in console and PC will spend at least three hours or even more playing a game. Especially when they can only play in the weekends, they may spend their entire weekends playing the game. But the resin is limiting the playtime. It is not bad for mobile games, but it is not good for console and PC games. Daily commissions and killing three world bosses only take half an hour to an hour. After that, there is nothing to do.

Yes, there is nothing to do, since for someone who have finished all the quests, including the side quests and opened most of the chests in this huge world, there is really nothing to do in this game.

Like people said, the world becomes barren once you do all the quests. Exploring the world once again to look for chests is not worth it. The monsters are too weak and not challenging enough to make the games fun. Also, even though the level of the monsters increase, the rewards from them is still the same, aside of the materials for ascending characters or weapons. The experience is minuscule that you can ignore it. The mora (the currency of the game) is also like a drop of water in ocean. It is not rewarding at all grinding for monsters, so, there's nothing to do after doing all the quests besides doing daily commissions, that somehow becomes a chore rather than a fun thing to do in a game.

Want to increase your level by killing monsters? Theoretically, it's possible, you only have to kill thousands or even tens of thousands to increase your level by one. If the world is not so huge, it will be easy to kill ten thousand monsters, but in this game, because the world is huge, it took a lot of time just to go from one monster's camp to another. So, yeah, theoretically, it is possible to increase your level by grinding monsters, but practically, I don't think anyone would intentionally grind like that.

So, in my opinion, this is really not a game for console and PC. Or even if you want to play in console or PC, play it as a side-game. Or don't play it at all, as it is not designed for console and PC gamers.

    4. Addictive, there's TONS of contents inside this game, which could take weeks to complete if you're a casual gamer. I've always found myself lost in the world doing a lot of different stuffs.
    5. Waifus

    Cons:
    1. No custom key binding --> hope they fix this in future updates
    2. Artifact enhancement is not really optimized (cannot see what artifact are we sacrificing)
    3. No equipment lock
    4. FPS drop / spike on PS4
    5. Still not optimized on PS4 --> LOOONG loading time

Overall this is a pretty solid game in its foundation, there's still a lot of room for improvement, but nothing that cannot be solved with some decent patches and quality of life improvement, hope they listen to our critics!

I don't want to like this game as much as I currently do, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

    First the negatives:

-Chinese Rootkit: the anticheat is straight up malware, and the Devs being based in china means everything the game collects on your computer will find it's way to the CCP. For the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT install this game on any device that holds sensitive or personal information. I dusted off my PS4 for precisely that reason. It's also supposedly coming out on the Switch down the road.

-You CANNOT delete your account on PS4: Feel cheated that the male MC turns out to be a femboy and want to switch to the much more classy female MC? Hope you're willing to create another PSN account.

-Poor performance on PS4: The game lags and stutters pretty significantly. Attacks that hit many enemies at once will land you massive frame drops, and the game frequently eats your inputs. Given the success of this game, there's a chance this will be improved down the road.

-Gacha: The game is designed and optimized for people willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a slot machine. It will seem like you don't need to spend money at first, but it flips a switch once you've played enough to become invested in the game. The game is still technically playable without paying money at that point, but it halts you from gaining exp or advancing any of the other RPG mechanics once you've depleted your allotted daily resources.

-Terrible Voiceacting (English): it's just bad. Their voices feel like knives in my ears. Luckily you can skip dialogue, but there are some unskippable cutscenes.

-The Tutorial: The first 30 minutes of this game are a complete slog, as the game bombards you with exposition and dialogue. It'll be ~20 minutes of terrible voiceacting before you can finally go off and explore, and even then there are a bunch of story set-pieces to watch before the training wheels actually come off.

-Shameless BotW clone: This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but everything about this game is derivative. There is nothing original about the game, its mechanics, its story, or its music. If you can get past that....

    Now the positives:

Simply put, Genshin Impact improves on BotW's formula in many ways. In just the first few hours of gameplay, the game already has more enemy variety than BotW, and enemy encounters are a lot more varied. Each character also has a different playstyle, some more unique than others. The game straignt-up gives you 4 characters for free, and if you're lucky enough to unlock more, the gameplay can get pretty varied. The soundtrack has more variation than BotW, making the game feel much less monotonous (literally). The game's quests feel much more carefully designed to lead you to different corners of the map, which has a ton of secrets and surprises just like BotW. There's also no weapon degradation, which has the downside of making chests less exciting, but the upside is that there's no drawback to engaging enemies in combat (if you're skilled enough). The story is more involved, and does a much better job of providing context and agency to the game. There is also a good amount of sidequests, none of which are particularly mind-blowing, but are more involved than your typical "kill 10 rats" trash quest.

Overall, I think Genshin Impact is worth giving a shot. I plan to drop the game when the Gacha gets too bad, but I'm ~8 hours in and I've enjoyed my time in game so far (except the first 30 minutes).

I would totally give them 10/10 rating if not for the **** mobile energy system getting in the way of character's progressions.

Meet resin system. The mobile game standard energy system, making almost all of playable character's progression options gated by time. For 1 resin recharge time every 8 minutes. You need 16 hours to refill the capped amount of 120 resin, which will be used up in less than 30 minutes game time.

You want to level up your characters? Spend resin.
You want to increase level cap of your characters? Spend resin.
You want to increase your characters talent level? Spend resin.
You want to upgrade your character's weapons? Spend resin.
You want to increase level cap of your weapons? Spend resin.
You want to get artifact for your characters? Spend resin.
You don't have enough currency (mora) to do any of things above? Spend more resin.

This might not be a problem if they make the recharge time faster or the amount of drop increases but right now it's just plain disgusting. Someone already do the math on reddit and to fully leveled one of your character, with no mats it took weeks if not month. You can spend money to recharge half of cap amount and even that is limited to 6 times a day with a total of $10~. This is so stupid that even if you whale and spend on their main monetization which is gacha, you might not be able to use the character's for month.

The problem is that the resin system is so obscured until you spend around one week of playing the game. You watch the game with brilliant shiny glasses until you finished the main storyline that abruptly end, and reach Adventure Rank 30 and start to notice the problematic resin system. And when you finally reach Adventure Rank 35 the problem is becoming way more apparent.

Genshin Impact grossed $100 million in less than 2 weeks. I believe those people have yet to reach AR35 when spending money on this. I bet a lot of people regret spending their money way to early in the game just to meet with this time-gated content. If not, then Mihoyo successfully laid them in their predatory monetization traps.

I suggest you to stay away from this game at least until they actually heard the community, and change this massive **** system.

Si bien el rendimiento no es el mejor, no creo que arruine la experiencia. Hacia mucho tiempo que un juego free to play no ofrecía tantas cosas para hacer sin gastar un centavo, incluyendo un buen modo historia y un mundo abierto rico.

Stupid kryptonite games, copying nintendo, capcom, putting mobile game routines on consoles and PCS, junk pictures, empty worlds, very little to explore, rewards for exploration are nothing compared to top-up, illegal program implantation, **** like games.

Gameplay is fun, but the Gacha Rates are horrendous, need to spend about ~300$ to get a (Guaranteed) 5 Star Character and then you just need to get it 7 more times to fully level up...

You can play without paying but starting with Adventurer Rank 30 you need 8 Leveld Characters to progress through the Dungeons. And with those Gacha rates getting a Team like that is pretty costly. (Free

TLDR: Unless you spend thousands of Dollars don't even bother investing some money.

1.There is some fun gameplay, but limited.
2.More gameplay is gated by resources, resources now matters more than gameplay.
3.Feed players with limited daily/weekly/monthly activities that give resources so players don't starve, but never give them enough if they don't PAY. 4.Players who played for an enough long period will be very attached to the game as they've spend so many time

4.Players who played for an enough long period will be very attached to the game as they've spend so many time keeping log into the game to finish those repetitive activities as a part-time job. They now are the Gacha slaves who will defend the game no matter what because they just do not want to admit the characters they rolled and the resources they spent actually does not worth too much.

This is typical Chinese mobile/web game routine. Chinese players notice this pattern since Genshin's 1st day of launching as they are already very familiar with this. That's why its scored so low in Chinese gaming communities. I worked in Chinese mobile game industry before and what I can tell you is they do not value fun gameplay so much, they always treat that as a hook to innocent players. Instead they believe the business model and monetization is the only valueable thing in game industry. A famous quotation in the industry ,given by Shi Yuzhu who made a top grossing mmorpg about 10 years ago says "Put 95% of your good art resource in to the first 5% of the game". For the past 15 years, this twisted value in game industry almost killed Chinese console/PC game industry, especially blocking the single player game studio from having any resource. This is why Black Myth: Wukong is given so much credit as it is really a brave act to even try to make a good single-player game that focus on gameplay in China.

I admit Genshin has a much longer single-player RPG gameplay period than those typical P2W or Gacha mobile games. However as I suspect the game is still applying this terrible routine and as long as their management team still believes in the value of business model and monetization instead of gameplay, there's absolutely no reason the resin system will be reworked. They will probably feed you more resin when you get raged with activities until less people talks about it.

Well I'm not a Mihoyo employee so you might consider all this just my personal guess. Actually if Mihoyo decide to change Genshin into something more like a single-player RPG or an MMORPG I would be happy as well. But again, taking consideration from what this company has done in the past, for Genshin CBT and other games, that chance is too low.

I'm giving this game a zero because this is in my view what it deserves. I keep hearing "If you don't like gacha games then you won't like this game" like this is a concept we should all accept? This "game" promotes child gambling. How the f*** is this legal and why have we normalized it? We used to unlock items and characters in games by putting in hard work and earning them. You pouring money into this game or any game like it means you are supporting child/adult gambling and the gambling addiction that comes with it. I guarantee if you stop giving this game company and all the other gacha game companies money, you'll force them to make way better games and if you have the empathy and compassion you'll save people from throwing their lives down the toilet. To make a long story short this is WRONG. When people are paying 2000 dollars for one character it's time to pull the plug on this. If you want good video games now and in the future you have to learn to say NO. and adults to gam

Pretty good for a free game. Interesting open world, combat mechanics and abilities, and a decent story. You can easily put 50+ hours in it and not get bored. It is in no way pay to win so ignore those comments. However, I will have to agree that some systems need to be fixed so the game becomes less grindy.

An enjoyable game, but only to a point. Where that point is depends entirely on the player, because every player copes differently with the feeling of growing boredom which comes from repetitiveness.

Essentially, you have to do the same things over and over again to grind resources, which will allow you to: a) make your characters stronger, b) continue the story as you can only progress

Essentially, you have to do the same things over and over again to grind resources, which will allow you to: a) make your characters stronger, b) continue the story as you can only progress the story after you acquire a certain Adventurer Level, c) enter additional dungeons. You can cut this time short by buying premium resources with real money.

That being said, the game is not pay-to-win. It is 100% beatable with a free-to-play account, you just have to prepare yourself for a festival of grind. So if you're not into grinding and you don't want to spend your money on it, I would take a pass.

I've played genshin impact on all platforms which includes pc, ps4 and a high end android mobile device. From what I've gathered is that the ps4 version does tend to have a few performance and control issues which hopefully can be fixed in the future. Whereas pc runs the best (no surprises there) I think its best if you hook a controller up to your pc as well for the smoothest experience.I've played genshin impact on all platforms which includes pc, ps4 and a high end android mobile device. Genshin Impact is a well above average RPG to which we will dedicate many hours, but that gets lost in a monetization system typical of the gacha genre that sometimes demands too much from us. However, the free to play experience is wonderful offering us a beautiful and colorful world that can boast an absurdly good character design and a story capable of keeping us hooked.

Genshin Impact is part of a wave of titles from China that is slowly eroding the bad stereotype that Chinese devs are devoid of creativity and skill. While the initial comparisons are there, Genshin Impact does go beyond to distinguish itself…now if only the gacha rates and the free primogem are better I would have no hesitation recommending the title.

Genshin Impact might not be the most original game in a lot of respects, but it certainly has a wealth of things to offer players should they still be willing to give it a chance. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my time with it, and I plan to continue playing once future updates are implemented. The fact that it can be played for free is also quite impressive given just how much time you can invest in the game, especially with people perhaps staying at home more and being on a budget. All in all, Genshin Impact is a surprisingly solid action RPG adventure!
