Do not get deceived, this is NOT a Pay to Win game. First and foremost, even if you pay there is no PvP. Secondly, the game does not require you to spend real money in any way, in fact, even if you pay, it's still a matter of luck. Lastly, I have not used money in the game and haven't felt like I need it even when I haven't got what I wanted from the gacha.
The game is has not even released the whole content and there is still so much to do. And knowing miHoyo, they are going to do an excellent job expanding the world, story, characters, dynamics, etc., so I can't wait to see what they add.
The game is free so I encourage everyone to try it, if for some reason you don't like it, you still wouldn't have spent money on it.

-Diverse characters that hit many anime tropes (could be a con)
-Lots of loot to manage and collect
-Surprisingly decent voice acting, even for the mascot character
-Freeform navigation like in BOTW but without the problems of rain making it impossible to move and panting when running out of stamina.
    -Charming art style
-Lots of quests and daily activities
-You will have your waifus and husbandos
-Surprisingly interesting story, if not a bit cliche (chosen-one isekai)
    -Co-op
-Bosses found in the world are all unique and interesting in terms of attack patterns etc.
-Combat, though simple, still feels good and each character has unique and engaging abilities to experiment with.
-Lots of equips to micromanage (could be a con)

    Cons:
-Drop rates on rare item/characters are extremely low outside of the guaranteed "every 10 rolls" pity reward.
-Economy is very convoluted with more than 7 different currencies to track.
-There is a mascot character (may be a pro of you're a masochist)
-World is not empty, but only largely filled with common encounters and chests that offer little reward in the short term (supposed to be farmed in large numbers for character growth drops)
-Having only unlocked the first 3 areas, the environments are still all relatively samey. About 80% of the map looks like "Hyrule Field" (grass and cliffs) with a small potion being mountains or wetlands. the Chinese-inspired settings in some parts are nice.
-Unintuitive menus that makes quickly micromanaging the gear of several characters a huge chore
-Co-op unlocked only after about 10-15 hours of play (can be faster or longer depending on how you tackle it )
-Co-op has restrictions in place limiting the kinds of quests playable with friends and limiting the visitor's drops (they can't steal the host's world chests)
-Not a huge diversity in common enemies - you will mostly be fighting slimes and goblins.
-Very slow to level characters even after just early game.
-Low frame rates in cinematics and some frame drops during gameplay
-Map is slow to navigate with limited stamina and lack of mounts, along with fast travel spots not always placed in the most useful locations (though many are at least NEAR important areas)
-As late game approaches, will likely need to wait real time to allow resources to replensih or invest real money into resources to allow for farming rarest materials (I have not gotten to that point yet though)
-There is no way to set a custom waypoint on the map for which to travel towards via minimap (though you can place markers to indicate points of interest on the world map)
-Armor / accessories you equip do not change your appearance (only entire outfits are options)

Overall impression: If you like BOTW you will like this. It lacks the polish and the compact, rich world, but scratches that same itch. Basically trades the physics sandbox for RPG elements and a grind/chase. For a game that's free and with a very unintrusive gacha system, it's a no brainer.

As someone who has put forth actual money to purchase some of the game's additional features I Can say wholeheartedly with no hesitation even if I had not done that I would still be enjoying this game immensely.

Is this game perfect? No, it isn't but at the same time I find that anything really negative I have to point out would be either nitpicking or petty. Now I do admit I wish they did have some sort of offline mode just in case they may have some type of potential server(s) issues preventing users from logging in. As far as my connection for the 4 days I have been playing I have not had any relative lag or logging in issues.

I'm sure at sometime in the future when this game is to a certain point they will probably insert some sort of 'payment wall' but as for now this is an absolute delight to play. I hope everyone is enjoying it as immensely as I am.

    4. Addictive, there's TONS of contents inside this game, which could take weeks to complete if you're a casual gamer. I've always found myself lost in the world doing a lot of different stuffs.
    5. Waifus

    Cons:
    1. No custom key binding --> hope they fix this in future updates
    2. Artifact enhancement is not really optimized (cannot see what artifact are we sacrificing)
    3. No equipment lock
    4. FPS drop / spike on PS4
    5. Still not optimized on PS4 --> LOOONG loading time

Overall this is a pretty solid game in its foundation, there's still a lot of room for improvement, but nothing that cannot be solved with some decent patches and quality of life improvement, hope they listen to our critics!

Amazing Story, cutscenes, gameplay events and animation. Only problem I really see the the lip syncing and resin. People are mainly giving low scores due to the lack of comprehension that it’s a Gacha game some they’re bound to get shafted, which as a F2P I’ve had no difficulty playing the game as they give out good characters to play with. Overall thought I’d give the game a solid 8/9

A very solid free-to-play anime action RPG. The story is enjoyable, the graphics are beautiful, and the exploration gameplay is engaging. It should be noted though that the endgame is a bit lacking in the current iteration of the game, which makes it less enjoyable as a service game.

It is essentially fantasy RPG with a unique loot rind combined with a diverse set of funny and unique characters complimented by some well hidden adult humor that will have you laughing out loud.
The combat flow is fun and actually quite interesting. Basically you choose 4 main characters and switch between them and their skills depending on the enemy, each of their skills and equipment. Without getting to detailed each character has 2 skills multiple passives, a main weapon type and an element! the combination of all these with 3 other character means combat is very dynamic.
Some final thoughts: Genshin Impact's MSQ and side quests are both easy to follow and interesting while the musical score is simply setting a new level for games and I garuntee you will be talking at least 1 screenshot an hour this game is so pretty . All in all a must play

    Side notes
The game ran smoothly for me on PS4 pro

Some of these early reviewers seem to think this game is P2W or P2P and it makes me doubt they made it very far into the game. In addition to being essentially a single player experience (and therefore impossible to be a P2W) the game provides you you with 4 main characters through the MSQ the devs throw "premium" currency at you, send free character pulls in the game mailbox, have characters rewarded for beating in game challenges, and always seem to have a give away event running. At no point did I feel like I couldn't do something because of their monetization scheme but do be careful because gatcha is still gambling and it is incredibly east to spend money without noticing how much you have spent. (This game is way more rewarding to play as a F2P )

p.s don't get me started on these BOTW haters lmao

I don't want to like this game as much as I currently do, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.

    First the negatives:

-Chinese Rootkit: the anticheat is straight up malware, and the Devs being based in china means everything the game collects on your computer will find it's way to the CCP. For the love of all that is good and holy, DO NOT install this game on any device that holds sensitive or personal information. I dusted off my PS4 for precisely that reason. It's also supposedly coming out on the Switch down the road.

-You CANNOT delete your account on PS4: Feel cheated that the male MC turns out to be a femboy and want to switch to the much more classy female MC? Hope you're willing to create another PSN account.

-Poor performance on PS4: The game lags and stutters pretty significantly. Attacks that hit many enemies at once will land you massive frame drops, and the game frequently eats your inputs. Given the success of this game, there's a chance this will be improved down the road.

-Gacha: The game is designed and optimized for people willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a slot machine. It will seem like you don't need to spend money at first, but it flips a switch once you've played enough to become invested in the game. The game is still technically playable without paying money at that point, but it halts you from gaining exp or advancing any of the other RPG mechanics once you've depleted your allotted daily resources.

-Terrible Voiceacting (English): it's just bad. Their voices feel like knives in my ears. Luckily you can skip dialogue, but there are some unskippable cutscenes.

-The Tutorial: The first 30 minutes of this game are a complete slog, as the game bombards you with exposition and dialogue. It'll be ~20 minutes of terrible voiceacting before you can finally go off and explore, and even then there are a bunch of story set-pieces to watch before the training wheels actually come off.

-Shameless BotW clone: This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but everything about this game is derivative. There is nothing original about the game, its mechanics, its story, or its music. If you can get past that....

    Now the positives:

Simply put, Genshin Impact improves on BotW's formula in many ways. In just the first few hours of gameplay, the game already has more enemy variety than BotW, and enemy encounters are a lot more varied. Each character also has a different playstyle, some more unique than others. The game straignt-up gives you 4 characters for free, and if you're lucky enough to unlock more, the gameplay can get pretty varied. The soundtrack has more variation than BotW, making the game feel much less monotonous (literally). The game's quests feel much more carefully designed to lead you to different corners of the map, which has a ton of secrets and surprises just like BotW. There's also no weapon degradation, which has the downside of making chests less exciting, but the upside is that there's no drawback to engaging enemies in combat (if you're skilled enough). The story is more involved, and does a much better job of providing context and agency to the game. There is also a good amount of sidequests, none of which are particularly mind-blowing, but are more involved than your typical "kill 10 rats" trash quest.

Overall, I think Genshin Impact is worth giving a shot. I plan to drop the game when the Gacha gets too bad, but I'm ~8 hours in and I've enjoyed my time in game so far (except the first 30 minutes).

Genshin Impact is probably one of the best free to play games for console of all time, right up there with fortnite.. this time theres more of an action jrpg meets breath of the wild feel, you choose your starting twin, the other is kidnapped and its up to you to rescue them, throughout your journey youll meet new characters that the game gives you for free, and there Is the option to buy new random characters which is where the fee to play aspect comes in.. howver I found this to be highly optional.. here youl be running from checkpoint to checkpoint, unlocking chests for new gear and adventure xp.. something that is actually the most important aspect on genshin ompact.. exploration.. you need to explore to progress the game which is ultimately what made me stop playing 13 hours in… the grind here is absolutely abysmal… I loved progressing this weird story that was impossible to follow for me.. going through the dungeons, just to see where this world would take me next, what enemies and bosses it would throw at me.. and after a while the game starts flowing down, you go to this point now go explore to unlock the next chunk of the story.. so you do that, gaining adventure experience, leving up your charcters, finding new weapons, it was so addictive.. I didn’t mind the break.. im bac, lets continue this story.. heres 2 or a 3 quests.. now you need adventure level 15.. okay… I guess I can do that.. go out.. do the actually thoughtful side quests… a couple hrs of grinding.. ive maxed out my charcters, now I can accend them and level them up twice as much.. I finally get to get back to the main story.. and wall… 1.. I get 1 main mission until the game is like come back after you reach adventure level 25…. Twenty… five…
I just grinded for hours to go up 3 levels.. and you want me to go up..10.. more.. levels… sure theres a level 18 main story sitting there… but whos to say I don’t grind 3 more hours for those 3 levels.. doing mindless, exhausting, map cleaning.. only to get one 15 minute long story mission again.. with nothing on the other side but climb 8 more levels for that level 25 mission.. I couldn’t.. I just couldn’t do it.. I tapped out.. that being said.. my ascension to level 15 was great.. genshin impact rally is a great game with a beautiful world to explore… and at the very least, youre going to get a great.. free… 12 hour game that sure oyull have to youtube the ending for unless oyu have literally nothing else to play and want to sink what looks like over 40 hours into opening chests and activating teleportion posts..
Usually I can grind for a great story, but like I said earlier, it was hard for me to follow, and a story that didn’t make sense in the context of the games delivery.. you cant tell a story of urgency while telling me to go find wheat for a boy to feed ducks… same issue I had with the story in the witcher 3.. you feel like its important that you find and help this person, but hey go do this other stuff that in the grand scheme of the story isn’t impactful in any way… tell a different story…
it’s a shame that such a large emphasis on grind took the wind out of the sales for me.. but I really can appreciate this game for how great of an experience it offers as a free to play..
    I give Genshin Impact
    an 8/10

MiHoYo surprised everyone with this open-world RPG! This game presents us beautiful graphics, charismatic characters, good fight mechanics and interesting world exploration. The only problem I see is the grindy "Gacha" loot system that demands too much money, but it can be played without any cent invested in the game. I'm really looking forward to the future updates :D

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Rarely review on a game but here goes my opinion after playing for 10+ hours. To begin with, this is a very solid game even if it's not F2P. I can say it's better than a lot of 60$ games out there. Yes the game probably gets a lot of ideas from BoTW but I feel it’s more like a fusion of a lot of other games like Nier:A, FFXV, Xenoblade, and HZD, which I don’t mind anyway.
Even though this is a free game, it’s not a play to win game like some people stated (as least up until the point I am now). The characters you got from story progress are good enough. Everything can be upgraded by farming (apart from constellation?). They even stated there how you can get the materials for the upgrade materials. The loots are surprisingly generous too for a F2P game.

    Pros:
    Beautiful graphic
    Fantastic character design
    Interesting combat system
    Music
    WAIFU

    Neutral:
Pacing. You can’t proceed the story as smoothly as other single player games. You will constantly need to do some side quests and explore the map to increase your adventure rank
Story. Pretty straight forward too without a whole bunch of lore bothering me
Dialog is not as tedious and dull as some other games (e.g. DQ XI).

    Cons:
It doesn’t run smooth on my PS4 slim. Stuttering here and there.
Some searching the area for certain clue / item side quests are frustrating. But it’s common in open world games anyway.
The map is too big for my liking, filled with similar groups of monsters and treasure chest.
No cross save between PS4 and other platforms.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Pretty good for a free game. Interesting open world, combat mechanics and abilities, and a decent story. You can easily put 50+ hours in it and not get bored. It is in no way pay to win so ignore those comments. However, I will have to agree that some systems need to be fixed so the game becomes less grindy.

This is a great game with a LOT of content and guess what? It is totally free and you don't even need strong characters to play the story. The gacha system is only a plus for those who want to play with different characters.
Again, this criticism comes from babies that probably wanted all the characters for free LMAO.
You can beat this game with 4* CHARACTERS ONLY.

    Solid 8/10.

Genshin impact copies botw in some very obvious areas. However, it retains its own identity. Some are apposed to putting gotcha games on console, yet it is a free game. From the hours i have put into it, there seems to be no need to pay any money, you can win with any character. Overall i would say this game is very promising, and i hope it continues to be as good as it is now in future updates.

I have been playing non stop all week and it's been a blast every moment. Alot of the negative reviews cite pay to win, some of them just use racism to bash the game. But Honestly the game gives you a lot of the "premium" currency through game-play and while the drop rates could definitely be better they also could be much much worse. So it's not really "pay to win" it's more like "pay for expedited progress." The game does take a lot of inspiration from Breath of the Wild that is obvious with it's world exploration but it also adds on to that with multiplayer and no terrible durability system that renders weapons useless after a single battle so there is that. And obviously, this review only works for ver 1.0, anything about this review after update (ver 1.1, November) might be different and irrelevant, so keep in mind. (reviewed on PS4, PC, and Mobile. 30-60 Hours of gameplay, AR 41) (well, English is my second language, so i'm greatly sorry if there's a grammatical issues in this review, Enjoy!)

    1. Gameplay
Yes, i know, this game is highly inspired by BOTW, but here's the thing, there's a lot of uniqueness in this game's gameplay, like the complicated elemental influenced in the environment and combat, balancing gameplay between one characters to the other, and artefacts that you need to masteries on each role of your characters.

    2.Story
This game is, based of what i've been played, the best story for free to play game out there. each characters has their own story (even though still some of the characters, but it will be updated) the archon story (main story) is also complex and worth to follow, but.. this argument is only for Monstadt or prolog chapter, why? because the chapter 1 (half of it) and so on, still not yet been updated.. but still, prolog chapter is so long and it can take you like 5-15 hours to finish your activity in Monstadt. Not only story inside the game, but the lore, the other support materials outside the game, and the collectable books (or i can say, light novel) are also great.. overall, even thought archon story is not yet finish, but for free game, i was really amaze of what i get from it. but.. because the story is not yet finish, after AR 36 you most likely to feel empty and not much to do except for finish the daily quests and try to build your characters better.

    3.UI/UX.
when i first time watch SAO, the only thing that i want from that anime is the game that has the simple yet complex mechanism in their UI, somehow, i never actually find one, even in the "SAO the game". But, this game finally get it, they can show how the complex UI can be simplify by only "you know where to put it", like no longer big and useless button on your screen, the characters tab that simple and informative, and chat tab (thank god) that not fill your entire screen (especially for mobile) that make you cannot see what you want to see. Yes, there's still a lot miniscule issues in UI/UX, like no special "change party" button, no macro for food and power-up, and other little issues, this is ok for me, but many people have been let down by this issues.

    4. Scoring and World Environment
For free game, they really hire Beijing Orchestra to score this game, it makes me.. little bit guilty for play this game for free because the quality is on a par with other east-RPG games, well, fairly speaking, i found that some of the background sound music is similar with FF or NieR, but that's fine by me.

Liyue and Monstadt is full of content, a lot of things you can do and most of them are rewarding, from slaughter the hilichurls around the maps, and finish the random challenge. The beautifulness of the landscape of Liyue and the great city of Monstadt are one of selling points of this game, almost all NPCs has it's own story and background (just like the playable characters), like you can actually know every characters in Monstadt and their occupation so when you need something or you find something in the mission you can predict where it will be going.

    5.Political Issue and Gacha Mechanism
Look, i know you are all worry about how the most of the free games are pay to win, but for this game, it most likely play (and grind until you crazy) to win. the characters mostly balance, even 5 stars it doesn't matter, if you cannot play the characters then you cannot play the characters not because you don't have money to get better characters. I can say, you can actually play the game until AR 40 without gacha. Gacha itself is always guarantee you 4 stars of above if you purchased 10 times, so, don't worry for every free players out there, you still have a chance to get Klee. the only issue about this game that related to money, is maybe the resin, but don't worry, you will feel it in AR35 and above, so as long as you play this game just for fun, this problem might be not the big issue for casual players.

the real issue is, yeah.. political issue and everything about yourself is being supervise by the government of the place where mihoyo was born. but come on, even the US government know everything about yourself.. or other countries. Well, still this is the major issue for some people, so just keep in mind.

overall, this game in ver 1.0 is a great game, fantastic world, and wonderful story, and if you still feel this game is not for you, why didn't actually give it a try, it's free after all.. that's why, this game is solid 8,0 for me, i like this game and looking forward for the next update

If the game didn't have microtransactions that make you stronger and all I would give the game a 10, but the gacha-mechanics make it a little unpleasant to play; the gems farm is toooo slow, reaching the point where it's almost impossible for a F2P player get a 5-star character in a fair amount of time.

Mihoyo tried to bring an experience that mechanically and in his exploration of the world follow the trend of Zelda with a vast and inhospitable map where part of the fun is how to interact with the environment making use of his elemental and physical abilities, what make the map itself and organically exploring a central part of the fun and progression of the game.

The gameplay and Surprisingly fun and the exchange of characters to perform elemental interactions makes the dynamic and interesting combat the soundtrack has a estiloproprio being very hot to hear the characters and the narrative make use of various cliches of anime and Japanese games but despite of that they still try to bring something of their own personality having some interesting missions.

As for the bad part it is very obvious although you play this game alone the whole structure of its evolution is a mmorpg being necessary a lot of grind to get ahead however as your game is little affected by other players and it is not possible to do everything the content in multiplayer we ended up with the bad part of an mmorpg without the good part that is the interaction, on Paywall I don't believe it exists for a simple reason no matter how much money you spend it will only bring you more characters and weapons others resources are only obtained through the resin system that makes it impossible to farm consistently.

In short this game is only worth it because it is free however all his problems are based on the fact that he is free, I believe it is only worth playing the first 30 hours that are really fun and bring something different however if you don't like Grind or MMORPG stay away from this game you will only get frustrated for those who like the genre it certainly has problems not being the best alternative on the market however it is completely possible to have fun without putting your money Mihoyo despite making mistakes has been helpful to improve the game and follow a typical MMO update schedule with a long time between major updates but if that doesn't bother you go ahead.

Genshinimpact is a good first attempt by a studio that is still unexpected in making games for consoles and PCs but that seems to try to put some affection in their work if they manage to abandon the addictions of the mobily platform has a good potential to bring very interesting games in the future.

I’m gonna list the good and bad points of this game. I’ve played it for a month and a half and i’m AR 38

    Good:
-Best soundtrack for a free game that i’ve ever heard
-The world looks nice (when it loads in)
-Element interactions are interesting and fun
-Paimon is a mascot that doesn’t want to make me bash my head against a wall for once (is still a bit annoying)
-English voice acting is good for most characters
    -Generous rewards at the start
-The story is constantly getting added to and the map will be soon as well (Right now only Act 1 and the prologue is accessible and I believe they are adding a whole new nation called Inazuma soon
-Despite what most people say, the resin given out each day is enough as long as you aren’t addicted to the game
    -I like the cooking system
    -The quests are pretty fun

    Bad
-It’s REALLY poorly optimised for PS4 (I’m not playing it on PS4 pro so i can’t vouch for what it’s like for them) it lags if you fight like 5 or more enemies at once
-The gacha rates make normal gacha games look generous with their rates, I think the probability of getting a 5* character from a single wish is 0.01% or something ridiculous like that, so you HAVE to use wishes in bulk in order to get something good
-Buying primogems is a scam, it’s about £20 ($25) to buy 10 wishes. Although using 10 wishes guarantees a 4* or higher, that also includes weapons so basically you pay £20 for a CHANCE to get a character -The free characters you get are utter rubbish compared to the other characters (The only good ones are Fischl and Xiangling, but they were only free for a limited time, so if you didn’t get them then, they are gone forever unless you get them in a wish)
-The game is made in China, so it censors anything that the CCP doesn’t like e.g Tibet, Hong Kong and even MiHoYo (the company’s name) for some reason
-Loading times from one area to another are too long, the loading screen is like a minute and then you still need to wait another minute or 2 for the world to load in properly
-A lot of characters in this game are lolibait from normal lolis like Fischl,Xiangling and Barbara to literal children like Qiqi,Klee,Diona and Sucrose
-Enemies scale in level to a ridiculous extent once you do ascension quests
-A lot of grinding is required once you get to around AR 25, since you need certain materials to ‘ascend’ your characters and weapons to higher levels so they are more powerful
-Sometimes the game dialogue doesn’t match up with the subtitles
-Quite a lot of glitches, not the fun kind either
    -Normal domains are boring
-The game’s story is so generic, with so many made up fantasy words that you would need a whole encyclopaedia to translate one sentence

Overall, I’m giving it a 7/10, even though there are more cons than pros, it’s a free game and most of the cons can be avoided provided you don’t spend a single penny on this game. So here’s my advice:
-Exploit the shops and rewards in limited events as much as you can, they usually give out good rewards
    -Don’t spend money
    -Play on PC
    -Skip the dialogue
-Don’t waste your special resin, you only get one per adventure rank, and a few more
-Don’t neglect to pick up anything when you are walking around even if it feels like something insignificant like pinecones or mint or sweet flowers

I'm not really into free to play/mobile games e.t.c, but when I heard that Genshin Impact is a role playing game inspired by Breath of the Wild, without pay to win microtransactions, it caught my attention.

I can't share my thoughts for the story because it's not complete yet but it's quite intriguing so far.
The gameplay is pretty good. It looks cool, it feels satisfying and it plays well.
The world is arguably the best part of the game, it's fun and rewarding to explore this massive world filled with content and unique areas.
It's quite impressive how this game has more content than most full-priced titles out there, even if the quest design is quite repetitious.
Also, the art style is quite beautiful.
Unfortunately though, there are some things that bothered me a bit.
There's not enough enemy variety, grinding to level up the Adventure Rank in order to progress is tedious after a while, and I hope the developers will add mounts in the game someday because the traversal feels slow at times.
The microtransactions were an after-thought for the most part, but more characters should've been for free.

    Pros:
    + Good gameplay
    + Very fun exploration
+ Huge world filled with content
    + Great art style
    + Co-op

    Cons:
    - Not enough enemy variety and repetitive quest design
    - Grinding and monetization
    - Slow traversal

Genshin Impact is one of the better free-to-play games I've played, however, I hope the developers won't get lazy in the future because this game has a ton of potential.

    Do I recommend it?:
Yes, it's fun and for free.

Essentially, you have to do the same things over and over again to grind resources, which will allow you to: a) make your characters stronger, b) continue the story as you can only progress the story after you acquire a certain Adventurer Level, c) enter additional dungeons. You can cut this time short by buying premium resources with real money.

That being said, the game is not pay-to-win. It is 100% beatable with a free-to-play account, you just have to prepare yourself for a festival of grind. So if you're not into grinding and you don't want to spend your money on it, I would take a pass.

Not much to say, I like it and I'm not a weeb.

I do see a lot of dungeon crawler-Zelda DNA involved and it is fun when I do play it.

I will criticize that it has very mobile gaming marketplace to gamble characters/gear (Gacha) it is largely out of date design for western audiences, BUT still a very valid and popular form of monetization for Asia.

Would i feel better about it if the game developer gave us a solid release schedule and prices? Yes.

I am having a huge amount of fun with this game. I went in with a highly suspicious attitude due to the free gacha format and it being a BOTW clone. At Adventure level 20, I do not see an obvious push to have to spend money to win the game. The potential is there so I am holding out until endgame for a final judgement. But I am using all the free characters and do not feel hobbled.

Things I enjoy about this game:Huge world to explore, developed lore, game rewards exploration. Things I do not like: online connection required, gacha format, timed energy stamina for opening certain chests, crafting material gated to day of the week, feeling guilty about BOTW cloneness.

Here is the why I forgive myself for the BOTW cloneness....no weapon durability! It such a relief to explore a BOTW type world without your weapon breaking every few fights.

I think I would pay full price for this game without the time gates and gacha mechanisms.

I have a mix of positive and negative things to say about the game. Let's start with the positive stuff.

The world and environment look beautiful. The combat is simple yet fluid and the elemental reactions are also pretty interesting. I like the dungeons and having multiple characters with distinct gameplay to choose from. It includes co-op which looks pretty enjoyable but I haven't tried yet.

    Now, onto the negative stuff.
I know it's been mentioned plenty of times but it is obvious to anyone who has ever played Breath of the Wild for even one hour that this game is a clone of it. There are way too many things that work exactly like BotW to very specific levels. I'd be fine with using its features as inspiration but blatantly copying is not cool. While the combat is good it doesn't compare to the greats such as The Witcher, Dark Souls, Nier: Automata, etc. (Still above average though). The characters look super generic and I swear I've seen them all in cheap mass-produced fantasy anime. The lip-synch during dialogs is awful. The story isn't very interesting and the pacing is all over the place.

Overall, Genshin Impact is a good-looking BotW clone but besides its glitter, it doesn't offer much new and feels like a cheap mix of BotW and generic-looking anime characters + bad mobile game p2w features. But not everything is bad, the game is functional despite suffering from low FPS every now and then and its world and dungeons are still fun to explore. Perhaps it is too soon to rate this game yet, it might still surprise me and I might improve the rating. Time will tell. As of now, I'll consider this game a decent effort at trying to emulate Nintendo's success but not quite there yet.

The game has its ups and its way downs.

    Pros:

-The world is large and interesting enough to explore.
-The battles are fun and enemies can get quite hard if not careful.
-Game rewards the use of multiple characters.
-Story is interesting specially for anyone not familiar whit Honkai.
    -Characters have fleshed out profiles.
-Its overall a enjoyable game to spend 3-4 hours playing per day.

    Cons:

-The Gacha is horrible, its current rates are at 0,6 whit our 76th pull having a 20% rate to give the impression of good rates, making it actually a soft pity, whit the hard pity being the 90th pull that guarantees a 5*
-More then 50% of the current 5* characters are limited, the game keeps expanding and each update usually has 2 new 5* banners that last around 20+ days and then just poof, issue is that 5* characters who appeared in the 1st banners of the game (Venti and Klee) wont appear for most likely a whole year, which is stupid.
-Banners suck, currently the special banner gives the players a 50% chance of the 5* they get be the banner character, meaning that there is a chance to get one of the always available 5* characters, which the game then makes sure your next 5* is the banner one, issue is that you can still get 5* Weapons in the same banner, meaning that you can get 2 5* pulls and them being a 5* weapon and a perma 5* character.
    - 4* characters come at the rate of 10 pulls, meaning that usually 85% of the pulls till a 5* will be 3* weapons whit no actual proper use, as 4* and 5* weapons outclass them easely.
-Prices are a literal scam compared to how many pulls you need to do in the game, the current most expensive pack (over 100€) literally doesn't give enough Primogems to even reach 90 pulls for a guaranteed 5*, meaning that someone can quite literally waste 100€ in this game and not get a single 5* character and just a bunch of 3* weapons and a few 4* characters.
-Resin, the material used to get dungeon rewards, is caped at 160 and takes more then 15h to fully restore, making the player use 50 Primogems to replenish it by a bit, which actually makes the price rise up if the player wishes to do so again.
-Game locks characters and weapons behind either 1-2 months of saving (meaning you have to skip banners) and gives the players the are minimum in Events, creating the illusion of reward, wen whiteout events players cant even do 1 pull per day, meaning that some players cant even get 30 wishes before the banner is gone, wen the game requires us to do between 70-90 pulls 99% of the time.
-Getting the 4* characters needed will eventually become impossible because they will keep adding more and more of them, making the special banners the only reasonable way of getting the 4* characters players want, which leads to players needing to skip banners to save up for even 4* characters, its disgusting.

Overall, Genshin is a Mobile Game ported to PS4, but whit a Gacha system 10x worse then normal, the game itself is GREAT, but its monetization and economy are DISGUSTING.

How could it be fixed ?

-Lower Primogem Pack pricse by 50%.
-Lower 5* soft-pity to 40 and hard-pity to 50, making so players get 3-4 4* characters and 1 5* character every 50 wishes or get rid of the randomness and make it so we get some type of ticket to redeem the character of our choosing (4* ticket and 5* ticket).
-Make banner characters permanent, the banners give them a 50% chance , so they should just remove the 50% chance and put the character together whit all others in the normal banners so they can still be gotten for constellations.
-Switch the Character/Weapon Gacha for a non random shop and monetize cosmetics and outfits intead.

Initially I gave this game an 8 out of 10 because I thought it was overall a fun f2p open world rpg, with a cast of colorful characters and overall a simple but enjoyable combat, but the more I played the more I realized the issue with the game itself, and how I couldn't really enjoy it as much.

Now I could start with the fact that the game is greedy, which it is, but i want to be honest here: the extra characters aren't "really" required to play the game, they're only needed to play "optimally" and that's mostly it: in today's era where people like ultra optimized runs, having specific combo of characters is a wet dream coming true, but this also comes with the problem of how expensive the game becomes in this regard.

Besides characters, everything else is also tied to rolls - for the exception of experience, but more to that later - so the game actively expects you to roll and roll and roll in order to obtain
    1) Better characters
    2) Better weapons
    3) More constellation stars, which are given when you roll a double.
    4) The currency which is gotten from doubles, in which you can use to to obtain extra items.

It easily becomes a vicious cycle here: yes you are able to roll without paying but it takes a lot of time to grind the required primogems to obtain 10 rolls - and yes you WANT to do 10 rolls as it gives a guaranteed 5 star roll, which may also be a weapon too by the way - and while you can play freely and without actually paying money this can become a problem when it comes to weapons and other stats: I never paid a single dime but I struggle to find better weapons due to my lack of good rolls, and the battle pass (yes, there's even a battle pass now) really doesn't incentivize you enough, and even then you can probably get one weapon anyway. It's just a lot of money to play decently, and it can be frustrating when you try to play without and suddenly you get a block because "Oh crap I don't have any good weapons now". And while there's crafting, their weapons are subpar in comparison to rolls and battle pass.

But this is nothing, I haven't really tackled on one of the major issues of the game: the resin system. The resin system is essentially your amount of available activities you can do as it dries up the more you do them. This is nothing new to be honest, other mmorpgs do similar ways with fatigue systems and the like, heck Granblue Fantasy does the same (but better). The problem here is tied to the exp and money you are needed in order to play the game and how this can very well be a problem in the future.

Let me be straightforward: the game is not easy to level up after a certain threshold, as it doesn't require you to kill or grind enemies but to grind books, the most expensive and rare giving you 20k each plus a certain amount of mora (the money) you must spend. This can be extremely problematic later on because the price gets higher and higher, the exp required gets to millions and the money expenses get more and more and the only way to farm money after you're done with everything is to farm ley lines, which are tied to resin: this means the resin can actively hold you back if you don't grind well.
But unfortunately, there's more: after a certain levels you get (20 levels until 40, then every 10 levels) you need to do what's called an ascension, which is basically what I'd call "level break" as you need to grind some materials in-game and of course spend some mora, which is actually not a lot. The problem? You need to do certain bosses and said bosses might drop one out of, say, 2 or 3 of the items required for your ascension, but due to the resin system, this might drain your storage and force you to try again and waste more resin! You have 160 resin (up from 120) but a boss can take 40 resin! That's 4 attempts before you need to stop. Or if you pay money to recharge (or primogems, not that you want to).

It's truly a shame though because I think the game is actually nice: the story is nice enough, I like the quality behind it, there's a lot of voice acting and the characters are well designed and enjoyable, there are some really nice twists here and there that make the story very enjoyable (but nothing too mindblowing), but due to how the game plays and demands your full money it can be discouraging: I usually try to play around events because I know I can get some exp and mora boosts, so I can level up some characters. I have about 10 characters but I cannot level all of them because of the poor resin system and the lack of books (which cannot be bought with money but rolls allow you to obtain currency that you can spend on them).

Until they try to tone down some of the requirements for the leveling and upgrade system (I forgot you can also upgrade talents, which also costs mats and mora. NICE!), it's better to take it easy and maybe wait for when they nerf a little. Or just skip it entirely and move on.

Touted for being one of the most advanced gacha games on the market to date. The game is heavily focused on exploring and grinding items, gear and materials to level up characters. Majority of these characters can be obtained through the system known as "wishing" where most desired/popular characters are locked behind a very low success rate of less than 1%.

The story/plot revolves around a brother/sister who can cross worlds and dimensions at their whim. Depending on who you choose, the other will be trapped by an unknown god and your chosen character will be stranded on a planet, stripped of all their powers. After a timelapse cutscene you are introduced to Paimon, the most annoying character since Navi...before you even knew what you had, you patented it, and packaged it, and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you're selling it! [slams table]

Playing on PS4 has been difficult as constant connection errors, severe lag, and frame-rate drops are an issue. While the game is fairly nice looking...the game, for the most part, is barren, very uninspired and clings to all the anime tropes to convince "otakus", "Weeaboos" and those with addictive personality disorders to spend mind-numbing amounts of money (primarily aimed at wealthy (in stupidity) players who like to brag about being "whales") on a gambling system with little to no actual return.

The characters are nothing but generic anime tropes. "witch girl" "brooding and powerful dark knight" "500 year old child character" etc...most characters are easily in their teens as they all are shorter than every NPC in the game (with a very few amount of actual looking adults). Which leads me to believe it's a game aimed to sell a slot machine to young and impressionable youth.

The MC (who is easily in their teens in appearance), for being a god that travels worlds and is hundreds of years old themselves act and sound maddingly inexperienced in everything. They easily get duped by NPC's and played like a fool. They are a god! I expect them to at least try to act like they know what they are doing. voice acting, for the most part, is serviceable.

Often times dialogue does not match subtitles and at the very lease is hilarious at times. Treasure chests are placed in the most obscure places. often times on a hill where contents will roll down hills as they grow legs and laugh at you as pathetically chase it in vain. World level is pathetic attempt to conceal powercreep that will always keep your characters underpowered forcing you to level (or purchase) upgrades. It literally serves no other purpose. The only way to outpace this powercreep is to focus on one character pushing their power beyond the "world level" difficulty....temporarily. You WILL eventually fall behind the curve, maybe not in the content now but eventually. The items you get from higher world levels are basically repackaged lower level stuff with higher stats. Essentially keeping you on the hamster wheel of perpetuity.

Now I'm not saying the gacha is terrible in itself. The gacha part could be better and more inclusive of people who have a sane level of reasonable value. I think if they weren't trying to sell their used Toyota Corolla's like they are new Lamborghinis then there wouldn't be so many upset people. Doing the math you'd have to spend hundreds of dollars, something around $365 for a guaranteed 5* which may not even be the character you want. Then let's throw in the fact that you have to roll 6 of the same character just to max a character and you'd have to be on some drugs to think one character is worth a month's worth of rent for the average person.

fanboys will argue, "well you don't have to spend money." which just comes off as snobby elitism. Let's be real, these are infinitely reproducible characters that hold no intrinsic value. This argument falls in the "if you don't like it, leave" and the "if she didn't dress so sexy, she wouldn't have been raped," level of stupidity. why do videogame companies get to ignore the basic fundamentals of supply and demand of economics because of some dumb youtubers who promote the gambling aspect up the ass? You could scale costs to be more inclusive. first bundle of 10000 gems per month. $10, second $20, third $30. etc...at least give lower $ players a **** chance. They could also just put the characters for a price, 1 Diluc = $15, why is that so wrong but gambling $365 is so right? That way everyone gets to choose the way they get the character. why not let us control world level to be more inclusive of people in many skill levels? Before you start mouthing off, remember, it's a single player game and everything someone does in their world has zero impact on you. Fanboys will fanboy and when it comes to gacha games the Stockholm syndrome is strong.

Its the most publicized and divisive game out there. Remarkably better than I imagined for a game ripping off nearly everything in Breath of the Wild. Its a little rough sometimes, framerate is trash on PS4, I don't think the localization was great and the menus are god awful but its basically as average as any other time wasting mobile MMO out there on the market. You don't even need to buy into all the monetization stuff to be able to enjoy the game for a while and its free so why not give it a shot. Surprisingly relaxing time I had with it and casually accessible gameplay that didn't feel boring at all. Watch my review here for my thoughts on the game : https://youtu.be/QqGsiQ460Z8 Expand

Basically everyone who feels attracted to "Jrpgs", should try the game. Yeah, it copied a lot from Zelda. Thats not bad, coz Zelda is easily the best game in the last decade. But, the world is not as vibrant as the world of zelda. Theres not so many things to explore in the World.

Why am I only giving an average? Thats because of the Gacha mechanics, that u have to accept, if u really want to have a character to ur liking. It s just hard to live w/o a good character, in an OW game u want to spent 60 hrs. Secondly, there may be no paywall, but theres a huge grindwall at the end. And if u want to push on fast,...well then u have to pay money.
Third, the difficulty level is just too easy. Fourth, yeah believe it or not, u cannot invert the y axis. For me really hard to play,...well this relativises my complaint about the level of difficulty ;-)

If u dont have issues with these issues, go 4 it.

There's no pvp, and so far at level 17, I haven't felt the need to buy anything. So for me, it is basically a free game with nice combats, good character's design and a beautiful world to explore. Is it worth your time though? There are better games out there and the performance on ps4 is not really good.

Edit: now at world level 30, the game progression is very slow and you are left with 3 choices:
    1. farm like crazy and waste your time
    2. waste your money on the O, 1% slot machine
    3. Stop playing "mid game" and say goodbye to all the characters you spent 30h improving.

    Hint: choose life ;)

I love the characters' interaction in this game, except for the MC, but at least, Paimon makes the interaction around the MC more interesting. The battle is interesting, especially the elemental reaction in this game. I love combining elemental reaction in a fight. The story, even though it is not the greatest story I have seen, but it is not that bad. The huge world can be a pro or a con for a player, as it would be interesting to explore the huge world, but also it is extremely exhausting to explore it.

Some people say that this game is not for F2P. I admit that we need money (and a lot of luck) to get the best characters and weapons in this game. Not to mention the resources needed to level up those characters and the weapons. But even without paying money, I still can enjoy this game a lot.

I'm AR 38 and haven't spent any money in this game. My team consists of 4 stars characters, my weapons can be forged at blacksmith, and I still can play most of the content in this game. Defeating the enemies took longer, sure, but that's all. Well, it is difficult to beat the time challenges (Abyss), but it is not a problem since even with somewhat weaker characters, I still can enjoy most of the content of the game.

However, even with all the pros I mentioned above, I still feel that the resin is bad. Like, really bad, that it makes an 8/10 game becomes a 6/10 game (or even less). I believe most people that play in console and PC will spend at least three hours or even more playing a game. Especially when they can only play in the weekends, they may spend their entire weekends playing the game. But the resin is limiting the playtime. It is not bad for mobile games, but it is not good for console and PC games. Daily commissions and killing three world bosses only take half an hour to an hour. After that, there is nothing to do.

Yes, there is nothing to do, since for someone who have finished all the quests, including the side quests and opened most of the chests in this huge world, there is really nothing to do in this game.

Like people said, the world becomes barren once you do all the quests. Exploring the world once again to look for chests is not worth it. The monsters are too weak and not challenging enough to make the games fun. Also, even though the level of the monsters increase, the rewards from them is still the same, aside of the materials for ascending characters or weapons. The experience is minuscule that you can ignore it. The mora (the currency of the game) is also like a drop of water in ocean. It is not rewarding at all grinding for monsters, so, there's nothing to do after doing all the quests besides doing daily commissions, that somehow becomes a chore rather than a fun thing to do in a game.

Want to increase your level by killing monsters? Theoretically, it's possible, you only have to kill thousands or even tens of thousands to increase your level by one. If the world is not so huge, it will be easy to kill ten thousand monsters, but in this game, because the world is huge, it took a lot of time just to go from one monster's camp to another. So, yeah, theoretically, it is possible to increase your level by grinding monsters, but practically, I don't think anyone would intentionally grind like that.

So, in my opinion, this is really not a game for console and PC. Or even if you want to play in console or PC, play it as a side-game. Or don't play it at all, as it is not designed for console and PC gamers.

Good gameplay but I can't even grind it that much. It gets boring. I grind for the sake of grinding and not to progress the story. Not a game for me.

Visually, the game is very appealing, with bright colors in the city and fields, and darker yet still vibrant colors at night and in the more cavernous areas. Additionally, the game is free-to-play, but the world and amount of things you can do are quite large. Despite this, there are some things that shine in a negative light for me. Among these things, is the game's constant need for an Internet connection, regardless of playing with other players or not. Players with an unstable or inconsistent connection won't find much enjoyment in playing with already unresponsive controls. Despite having a large open-world adventure with many missions to play, game-play seems to get stale after awhile. Missions seem less and less varying with each new mission you get. The stalest missions seem to come from the main storyline, as most of the time you spend is just on the text you read and preparing for each chapter's "climax". A trifling I have with the main story, is your companion, Paimon. A wholly large amount of time is spent with your companion, but the time is not well spent. I have found my adventures with Paimon to be mildly infuriating as the experience feels arguably worse than that felt with Navi in The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time. This brings me to my next point, the story feels drawn out. The experience is absolutely packed with hand-holding and long-winded conversations between characters. What can be said in a single sentence is often prolonged to ten or more, and you can see yourself mashing the A button to get through it all, right from the beginning. Lastly, the game as a whole, feels extremely grindy. When trying to get materials, or leveling up, you have to work quite a bit for a lackluster reward. And you find yourself spending most of your time doing just that, which gets old fairly quick. If the workload was decreased or rewards increased, I can see the experience not being as mundane as it is now. With everything being said, Genshin Impact is free-to-play, has interesting moments, and has a lot of room for development. Expand

The game gets boring fast. The story didn't seem interesting. No platinum trophy for all the ridiculous grinding. Feels like an incomplete game.

I realy like this game, I dont mind if its PVE or PVP but damn...RDR2 on my ps4 slim is smooth as butter, yet Genshin Impact barely holds up with 30 FPS in few best situations, most of the time it drops to 15,20 FPS. Would like to see stable 30 FPS soon.

Genshin Impact is a well above average RPG to which we will dedicate many hours, but that gets lost in a monetization system typical of the gacha genre that sometimes demands too much from us. However, the free to play experience is wonderful offering us a beautiful and colorful world that can boast an absurdly good character design and a story capable of keeping us hooked.

Genshin Impact is part of a wave of titles from China that is slowly eroding the bad stereotype that Chinese devs are devoid of creativity and skill. While the initial comparisons are there, Genshin Impact does go beyond to distinguish itself…now if only the gacha rates and the free primogem are better I would have no hesitation recommending the title.

Genshin Impact might not be the most original game in a lot of respects, but it certainly has a wealth of things to offer players should they still be willing to give it a chance. Overall, I greatly enjoyed my time with it, and I plan to continue playing once future updates are implemented. The fact that it can be played for free is also quite impressive given just how much time you can invest in the game, especially with people perhaps staying at home more and being on a budget. All in all, Genshin Impact is a surprisingly solid action RPG adventure!
