It could be a great game. Fine original combat mechanics, cool visuals, competitive gameplay. But it has one problem: online almost doesn't work. From every 10 matches I can finish one, or two. In other cases players quitting, game crashes, etc... And it's a pretty big problem for an online game.

Competitive Style - The game really does drive those players who are spammers to lose quickly and often. Calculated moves and techniques will win over repetition in this game.

The problem is everything else that chops away at its top tier core. Servers have been a catastrophe for me (primarily 4v4 modes). Disconnects mid game, unable to connect to games (no, its not on my end). Combine that with long loads and it is nightmarish just to play. One of them on their own you can deal with, but combined you can spend gigantic chunks of time just trying to play.

The second flaw is the incredibly greedy and stingy progression model. It almost feels like a free to play game more than a full product. Progression models can be addictive and a good time, but make no mistake, this is not one. Its trying to score big of microtransactions.

The last big flaw is the larger game modes. Having something dynamic vs pure dueling adds some important and necessary life to the game, but too often can they devolve into snowballing gangbeatings. When you find those 1v1s or 2v2s within these modes, the game is at its best, but there will be no shortage of times you get blindsided in encounters.

Its just the nature of the beast. Unlike say a shooter where you can kill an opponent in a second or two, when you have a minute long duel, it leaves a much larger window for interference, and things start snowballing as people fall 1 by 1.

This makes For Honor a very bipolar game. Sometimes you are in awe at just how much fun you are having, and the next you wonder why you waste your time. Certainly a game worth playing, but just how much someone likes it will depend how much these issues bother them.

A fighting game with peer to peer only connection is doomed to atrociousness, with response times dependent on having a good host- and finishing a match then dependent on that host sticking around the whole game. Nothing worse than having a fantastic game only to have the host rage quit in the last 3 minutes, and rather than try to find a new host the game just drops the entire match like it never happened.

Due to this, it's not even possible to have fun with this 'game.' It's more of a frustration simulator than anything else.

For honor however fills a gap in the genre that until now dark souls pvp was the only real option, (unless mount and blade has moved to console) and as great as dark souls is it's not very deep in the mechanics end.

But For Honor is not without it's problems. Primary the P2P multiplayer is beyond ridiculous in this day and age. I've lost count of the times I've been disconnected in-spite of my decent connection, died to someone I just executed or the match has paused or best of all I spawn already dead. Case in point I've played for three hours before writing this and only managed to complete three matches.

This is of course less pronounced in duel or brawl modes due to the smaller number of players but how fast you progress is tied to the modes with more players present granting more EXP at the end of a match. I suspect that a large part of this is due to the programming involved as I had few if any problems during the beta.

Matchmaking is frankly terrible with teams often being one person and some bots vs four players, and other times one side simply outclassing the other by a wide margin.

As for single player, it's simply tedious. there are very few check points so dying because of a mistake simply results in 15 minutes playing the same section you have already beaten, repeatedly until you either give up or power through. in the end i finished it on the 'hardest' difficulty by simply running past most of the enemies to fight the boss of the level who is itself only difficult because the UI is missing and it has it's health boosted to a ridiculous level.

In short the game is fun but isn't worth the asking price, there's only so many times you can get kicked from a game because the host has a bad connection before it becomes rage inducing. If they fix the P2P issue (how i don't know) then it would be an 8/10 it's a decent title but honestly could use some work and a lot of polish. As things stand, don't buy it.

Played arround 15 hours, I just can say that the game is not that bad, but gets repetitive easily.
And the p2p ruins it all, host leaving or lagging in the middle of a match, players being replaced by full health bots.. Sincerely, it could have been great, but right now is garbage as some people and reviewers said...

For Honor on PS4 stands apart In an Age of COD, Battlefield and Titanfall. As a casual game player it is harder and harder to enjoy competitive game play as our lives become more priority over "prestiges". For Honor brings us into a world of competition that is rewarding and difficult.

    The Game:
It is a war game like all the others but its world design and combat mechanics making it a fully enveloping game. Combat mechanics include a block mechanic where you must move your analog stick in the direction to block an attack. Blinking red and shield graphics tell you whether to block parry guard break or dodge to the left. Body movements help you decide which side to attack on your opponent. This is by no means a button mashing game. You must use your own reaction time and combos to defeat your opponents. Weapons and characters are fantastic looking and can be made more unique through leveling up. Using your own emblem and armor/weapon choices to make you stand out in the orange and blue teams.

    The Matches
Multiple game variations including elimination, duel, brawl and dominion (my personal favorite). There is a steep learning curve as reaction time is a must in parry, blocking and guard breaking. But each character has strengths and weaknesses that you can take advantage of given the time. Including A.I bots makes the game much more enjoyable as it gives you a bit of practice before taking on the "elite" players of the game. Even with higher gearscore you have a chance to defeat a more experienced player through either use of level defeating (throwing em off a ledge or into a fire pit or spikes on a wall). It also includes a "revenge" mode which will help less powerful players get an edge on the more experienced players. This ability can be good in some cases and a nightmare. In my opinion that makes it balanced. All matches can be played vs computers or players.

    Dominion - capture points
Skirmish - fight with a.i soldiers with buffs
elimination - 4v4 duel with buffs
brawl - 2v2 duel but with no buffs
duel - 1v1 duel no buffs

    Server issues
The game does suffer through networking issues. I will openly admit I have been kicked while winning battles and losing but gives many of us regular players the wonder if people are losing to keep their "K/D ratios" or if its one of the many errors the game is causing. Many of these can be put aside as every single game on either psn or xbox live has ran into these issues. We can only hope they will be fixed in the future.

    Gear and Loot
The Loot system is very unique as you can play with one character and reward another through purchasing chests or gear crates. It includes many different variations which will include defense, attack, revenge mode. The gear will obviously get better as your "prestige" in the game. The first level giving you initial blue gear and so on and so forth. IF you like the stats you have on your current gear you have the ability to upgrade all the loot you find to a certain point. Breaking down other armor you are not using for materials to upgrade your favorites.

    The Goal of the Game
Completing Orders, attacking the other factions and obviously better loot and prestige. The game itself is a game resources and you get those resources from (obviously) combat. Winning battles gives you steel, and gear but also deploy able troops. The more wins the better amount of troops you can deploy on the world map. The more territories you attack and defend gets your faction points. Those points decide the fate of your faction and the "bonus chests" you get at the end of a round. Those rounds then decide the fate of that current war which lasts about 2 months. As the game is new I am not sure what happens at that end of all the rounds.

    Final Thoughts
The game is a great fighter game. It is a tough combat system but rewarding with practice. Worth a buy if you enjoy competitive combat but are willing to take the time to learn characters. Levels are fun and the amount of diverse characters give it much replay value. So grab some buddies pick a character and show the world how honorable you are!

The fighting system in For Honor, in my opinion, is revolutionary. The duel and guard system is a fresh way to play a game like this. Anticipating your enemies attacks and blocks, mixed with parry, guard breaks, environmental kills, revenge mode, executions, and revives create a complex combat system that leaves you with a rewarding feeling when you defeat an enemy. The warriors are fun to play, and it is easy to fall in love with at least one, so with enough practice and playing you can become an formidable opponent.
    Single-player:
The campaign is split into 3 parts where you play each faction in each chapter. The developers were right when it does explain the current state of the world in which you are plunged in the multiplayer, however someone playing can't help but feel apathy when playing it. The story isn't great, save for a few moments, and the characters are forgettable. There isn't much to say about the campaign because it's hardly even a campaign. Poor writing, and uninteresting characters really kill it. I found multiple times where the story could have been better, and where cool twists or events could have been made, were not. Overall the story is forgettable but worth doing for the steel it awards you for multiplayer use. It's fast enough to where you're not wasting too much time with it.
    Multiplayer:
Lets get one thing straight. Peer-2-peer servers were a horrible decision for this game. Either due to bad connection, or people rage quitting, the game can suddenly stop taking you out of immersion. That, mixed with a almost seemingly toxic community (already) can leave a bad taste in your mouth. People crying "Play with Honor!" or even "You want Honor play 1v1" can just get annoying (However I will agree, i hate it when people throw me off a cliff). At Least it's like that in PC, maybe the console community's are better. Now into actual multiplayer game play. They give you a hand full of game modes; Duel, Brawl, Dominion, Elimination, & Skirmish. Duel is always 1v1, Brawl is 2v2, and the rest is 4v4, all have option to play against bots. All game modes are fun to play, and can leave you frustrated and raging pretty easily. The games pull you into it, leaving your heart race in a close match as you charge your enemies. It's part of the game with 4v4 and you start getting ganked by the entire enemy team, but hey, that IS part of the game, don't let people tell you otherwise. Some people will play with honor, but most won't. The maps are for the most part good, but some get stale if you play them too much. One of the better things is the customization of warriors. There are loads of paint options (earned through leveling up), helmets, weapon shafts, blades, axe heads, handles, armor, and a lot more. Emotes and effects to add to your warrior add that bit of flare. The game's strong point is its' multiplayer, and even though there are some problems it can be a fun and rich experience, that will leave you craving more.
    Overall:
For Honor is not a perfect game. However, it is a fun game that can also infuriate you. I DO recommend this game, as it seems ubisoft will be pretty dedicated to it (even though no dedicated servers).
    Tl;Dr:
Really fun game, sucks at some parts but forgivable.
    Pros:
Combat, Warriors, Customization, Game play, Atmosphere, multiplayer, dedicated community
    Cons:
Little to offer single player, Peer-2-peer connection, some toxic community

There is probably somethings I missed, but really this game is good. Even though some players can be annoying, most are pretty good. If you are even slightly interested in this game, check it out.

The only down side as i am sure everyone is aware is the Ubisoft have saved themselves some money on servers making the game more frustrating than it needs to be, you can not stay in a lobby and play game after game as you will keep being kicked due to lack of players and that does also happen mid game leading me to stop playing due to game rage.

But take that away and i would give it a 10/10 and i have already talked several people into buying it and playing it. If Ubisoft would admit their mistake they could make this a franchise along with the likes of Call of duty and destiny as i would be buying the updates and yearly game for the foreseeable future.

-Peer to peer isn't broken. Occasional disconnects happen, as with the occasional 2-4 second pause in play, but I haven't experienced any netcode/tracking errors nor any advantages granted to the host of the game.

-Gameplay isn't repetitive, but deeply engrossing. Some see this game as having a tri-directional block and two types of attacks, when the game at its heart has about 10 unique combos per character, 12 feats per character many of which are unique to them, and a total of 12 characters. Not to mention you have grabs, guard blocks, charges, throws, unique character traits such as not being able to stay in a block, or being able to attack whilst evading, and you have yourself a game with a high skill cap.

All of this to say it isn't perfect, but it certainly isn't deserving of a 0. I think the average it's gotten of about 80 is accurate. The single player falls flat, the menu navigation is necessarily over complicated, and not enough is done to guide new players into combat during the game. Sure, you have advance tutorials in the menus, but as with most high skill cap games, a good deal of learning should be done whilst actually playing, something that For Honor under delivers on. Most of the time, if you're beaten, you have no idea why or how to change up your strategy short of accidentally stumbling on something.

Overall I'd rate it an 8.5 for myself, as I'm a fan of these types of games. The use of environment makes for interesting show downs, with nimbler characters (if they're smart) drawing enemies to open ground whereas slower ones might opt for choke points. Some classes have distinct disadvantages against others, but the use of environment balances things out, which I think is a nice touch. Overall, if you're the type of gamer comfortable with failing, into competitive combat, and enjoy high risk-high reward plays, this is the game for you.

Its story mode is trash and the AI for bots are generally pretty bad. The online mode however, when you actually connect to a server, is very enjoyable and takes some practice to master. Also love the warmap, fighting over different areas with the two other factions. I wish they had done more with it and made every area a unique map.

For Honor is a game that shows you a new experience in a fighting style type of game and it is doing that in a really great way. You have 3 factions and 12 characters to play, with 6 more characters coming out this year. Ubisoft is doing a good job with following the game and it has been no dissapointment whatsoever for 60$

What is good about the game?:
-You have a 12 characters that are designed good in how they fight and how they look, and more to come
-You have 3 factions which makes you feel you are a part of something while also makes a commuity growing.
-Graphics are good and up to date.
-The maps look great and more to come.
-It has a simple feel to the combat, yet also showing great depth making this a fighting game EVEN casuals can enjoy.

    Cons:
-Not the best story, this is a subjective point and i'v heard alot of people actually enjoying the campaign. I don't drag the game alot down in score just because of a bad campaign (IMO) because this was displayed as a multiplayer game. The story gives you no feel for the characters, no attachments whatsoever and tells a tale of a warmongering knight, you are given 6 chapters for each faction and the "missions" you will be doing are rather boring. The only good thing is the cutscenes and some of the voice acting.
-Repetitive. The game is repetitive and will get boring after a certain amount of time, just like any other fighting game. I'v played this game for about 240 hours now and i can certainly see the interest of the game dropping down, atleast for me. This has not only something to do with how repetitive the game feels but also the balance and how rewarding it feels to win a match.
-Balance. This is ubisofts first attempt on a fighting game and it really shows. The balance in this game is something that can OFC be fixed, and in every fighting game you will have some kind of unbalancement. Some of the matches feel cheap and it feels like you cant do anything except taking a blow, just because you picked a character that does not have great tools.
-The feeling of reward. There just is no feeling of reward in this game, you win a match and you're like "huh, i guess i won" and will shrug it off. In SFV or MKX i will get the victory with reading the opponent correctly and executing a combo that i'v practiced on, this will really get me riled up! I REALLY miss that feeling in For Honor, and my guess is that it is way to simplistic and you can cheese your way out of most fights, the challenge is not that great when it comes to players, sadly. I will say that they are going to add ranked and tournament mode which will make this game more competitive and maybe even more rewarding, but until then. This is still a problem.

My reasons for judging the game are subjective and the only reason i post this is to have my say in the matter. Some people praise this game WAAAAY too much and others hate on it too much.

I hope this review is a little more helpful than your "avarage" metacritic user reviewer.

Well, Ubisoft decided to go with early 2000's tech and use peer to peer servers where if the host quits, it ends the match. Hell, even if the host doesn't quit, the connection to the match is likely to crap out and leave the 8 to 10 minutes you spend working towards that win pointless as it just collapses on top of you with an error code. But hey, good news! There's a single player campaign... That relies on both connection to their garbage servers and is more shallow than TitanFall 1's campaign. Its only purpose for existing is to roughly set up multiplayer and give you rough tutorials for the controls. And even those fail to tell you everything that you should know when it comes to combat. All around this game is another steaming pile of garbage that Ubisoft has released, right next to The Division and Assassin's Creed Unity.

As someone who loves studying the history of these cultures depicted in the game, the idea of them all doing battle in a semi-realistic and competitive environment was enough to get me completely on board. Which makes it truly heart-wrenching to write this review. In this game's current state, I simply can't recommend it. It's been nearly ten months since the game's release and the game is still plagued with bugs, connection problems, and abhorrent balance issues in spite of constant promises of improvements from the developers, who've only shown themselves to be more and more incompetent as the months have gone by.

Let's start with the bugs and connection. In 4v4 modes such as Dominion and Elimination, I'd say matches completely disconnect 30-50% of the time. Given the game's peer-to-peer connection, this wouldn't be nearly as much of a problem if player's were compensated and rewarded for their achievements and time played in matches that disconnect. Even though this would be a no-brainer feature to add (at least as a band-aid fix while proper fixes are worked on), it remains entirely absent.
Onto bugs (and exploits). This game has a ton of them. Up until a month or two ago, there was a bug known as "flicker", where basically, due to a rather lenient input window for certain attacks known as 'zone attacks', it could first make the attack appear to be coming from an entirely different direction before going into the zone attack's proper direction. Given that zone attacks are often some of the fastest moves available to heroes, this glitch could be exploited to a game-breaking degree, turning already hard to deal with attacks into un-reactably fast, risk-free moves. Combine this with another glitch known as 'unlock tech' that allows attacks not technically aimed directly at players to be uninterruptible and unpunishable, and it makes for a very frustrating experience. While flicker has been fixed, unlock tech remains, albeit in a slightly different manner.

Onto balance. There are four classes of heroes: Vanguards (jack of all trades), Heavy (slow and defensive), Assassin (mobile and damaging at the cost of being slightly weaker defensively) and Hybrids (mixtures of the other three). Orochi, a samurai assassin, has two viable moves at a competitive level of play: Top light attack, and zone attack. This is because all of his other moves are easily counterable or just outright useless compared to simply parrying, something all heroes can do. This in turn makes Orochi a predictable and boring hero to play as and against. Now let's compare him to Warlord, a viking heavy and one of the strongest heroes in the game. As a heavy class, Warlord has faster light attacks, better dodging abilities, obviously better defense being a heavy, he has an unblockable headbutt attack that deals a small amount of damage and is fast enough to apply pressure on a defensive opponent, he has a hilariously long throw distance of 6-10 meters in a game filled with lethal environmental hazards, he can throw players against a wall for considerable damage even greater than his heavy attacks, his heavy attacks are uninterruptible past a certain point in his animation, and can be chained into light attacks as well as vice versa. Remind me how are these heroes even in the same game? One has a symphony of usabillity and viable options, while Orochi (much like multiple other heroes in the game such as Warden, Kensei, Shugoki, Conqueror, Lawbringer, Berserker, Raider, the list goes on...) can only spam one or two usable attacks (if that even) to compete. This doesn't even begin to describe the larger underlying balance issues such as defense maneuvers in general being far too rewarding and safe compared to attacking, the game being based almost entirely on reaction time as opposed to other fighting game fundamentals such as spacing and mindgames, and it makes for a game that is simply boring and fundamentally broken at a competitive level. Combine this with a slow, ignorant, and indecisive team of developers, and it makes for a game that can only be described as frustrating on every level. They have promised fixes to most of these problems I've listed, but after many months of patiently waiting and watching developer streams, these remain to be only promises with no real ETA.

Nonetheless, this game has a truly massive amount of potential, and still has its fun moments from time to time, which makes it all the more frustrating to see it slowly die like it has been. If the game does eventually get the fixes it so desperately needs, I'll update and/or remove this review. But I wouldn't hold your breath.

I hate to use the expression "game-breaking", but really.. why would they introduce such a feature in a game that's supposedly based on skill, precision and tactics? You may argue that these items may be obtained for free, over time, but like in most micro-transaction based games, the amount of currency you get by being a non-paying player is frustratingly slow, and I personally think it kills the joy to try and rank up "the hard way" while some people below my rank are constantly in God mode.

Like in most Ubisoft games, it's clear that the team that developed For Honor have tons of talent and creativity, but the end product is shamefully ruined by the capitalistic nature of this company. I know I have been disappointed by Ubisoft for the last time. At this point in time, there's no doubt, whatsoever, that they're all about quantity over quality. It is very possible to do well in For Honor, if you're an exceptionally skilful player who don't mind investing a lot of time in a game that's designed to frustrate you into spending money beyond the asking price of the base game. I would not feel sad at all, if Ubisoft suddenly went bankrupt. They deserve worse. The talent of their developers are being tragically wasted.

The above reasons make me believe this game is overhyped. I ended up spending minimal time on it. Once I went around everything the game has to offer, I moved on by lack of interest. I respect that people can like the mechanics (that’s always subjective). However, FH’s content is poor, and that cannot be questioned. That said, the concept remains unique and I appreciate the fact that developers are trying to offer the players something new and different.

For Honor is a great concept with a wonderful, fresh and unique battle system that delivers well. You start off the game creating an emblem on a shield, after that is complete you have the choice of playing through single player or multiplayer; there is no really point in playing single player unless you want to unlock stuff (This is mainly a Multiplayer game). From there you can choose which multiplayer mode you want to take part in, duel ( 1 VS 1), Dominion ( 4 VS 4), and Brawl ( 2 VS 2). I really enjoyed playing duel the most the other ones I was carrying the people I was playing with and then getting destroyed; after you choose the mode you want to play you choose the faction you want to represent, and from there you can choose three or four different warriors from that faction that are all unique with different weapons and move sets.

For Honor is a solid game with a cool concept and great gameplay, but it suffers terribly from the peer to peer network it can take minutes to connect to an opponent, while in game your opponent can glitch out on you so much making it impossible to play and giving you a loss that is a huge problem.

This can turn people off because that is practically the only faction you have to choose if you want to stand a chance. As for the controls I find myself yelling at the game because I have the analog stick in between two ways of the defense mechanic. This is causing my character to get repeatedly being hit over and over again causing him to finally die. Which leads me to my next point, the spamming in this game is incredible terrible. Let me give you an example at the start of every match you run up to your opponent and press o(b) to stun him then you can hit him 3 times then stun him again, which doesn't even give your opponent a chance of fighting. It's all great and all until it happens to you. Another thing that can happen is you can repeatedly press O(B) to stun your opponent until he falls off the edge. This is why I have a hard time playing multiplayer, because you or your opponent don't get a chance at actually fighting its just spam after spam after spam.

As for the Campaign goes it is decent nothing incredibly moving but also not terrible. The campaign about 70% of the time is literally just the multiplayer except that its telling you what to do. There is right next to no thought process that went into the campaign that would make it unique or that would make it worth your time. It also not very challenging even on a harder difficulty, the only time I had even a little hard time getting by was the boss battle. THE BOSS BATTLE. Seriously? It was the only reason any hardcore gamers would ever play the campaign is because of the challenge, and the boss battle is the only thing that could be scraped up? I'm not saying I like playing every game on nightmare or extreme difficulty. But I do like to have a little bit of a challenge once and awhile. This game does not offer it. As for the story line it is pretty cliche and there were no surprising moments that added to the story. It is all pretty predictable about what would happen in the story. I will not reveal it to prevent spoilers. There is a co-op mode and I'm not going to lie it was pretty fun something about something slicing up guys with a friend makes the story a whole lot more tolerable.

The graphics in this game aren't as great as Watch dogs 2 but not as bad as watch dogs 1. They do have pretty good graphics though to say the least. The blood is not very realistic as they appear out of the body not cuts. What I'm saying is you take a huge hit at a guys arm and his arm's ok but there's a lot of blood that appeared out of nowhere. With these type of games you need to have a wound where the guy was hit. Not like a game from an old call of duty game (or even newer cods) . All in all they need to patch a few things in the game before its too late for it. There is hope for the game but they have to nerf classes to make it more tolerable.

For Honor is a multiplayer game. The story is lacking a lot but the online gameplay is intuitive and interesting and unique. This is a title I will continue to play for a while. Goodbye crappy CODs. This is really all that needs to be said.

A 90 sec 1 on 1 you eventually win and execute the player is the best feeling. A feeling you can't savor because that player is routing right back to you for revenge. Most the players are respectful, no salt if they lose to you they say good fight as they charge at you for another go around. Also is it's a fair 1 on 1 85% of players a honorable and won't interfere. That said there's not enough to it , 4 ga,e modes online and a short single player campaign. but again $35-40 it's a game that is a must play. Expand

Since I couldn't give an 8.5 I'm giving this game a 9. It is by far one of the most addictive games I have ever played. Period. This is due to the highly competitive nature of the game and the very rewarding combat.

One of the biggest strenghts of the game is its combat. Its extremely easy to learn individual movesets (unlike other fighting games), the difficulty lies in how to string those movesets together plus how to best combine them to beat your opponent. Combat in For Honor is rivaled by no other figthing game in my opinion. Its nature as an easy to pick up, difficult to master game is executed perfectly.

There are essentially four game modes. Duel (1v1), Brawi (2v2), Dominion (4v4-territory type), and Elimination (4v4). Which mode you pick depends upon individual preferences such as how competitive you are and whether you prefer team play or riding solo.

There are currently 14 characters divided into three classes: Knights, Samurai, and Vikings. For the most part the characters are well balanced. Matchups are not rock, paper, scissor based like some people claim. When you're just starting out, you may have difficulty with certain characters. But once you become experienced this is not the case. I have been beaten by, and beat, every class there is. Victory is dependent on the player, not the class.

As much as I love this game, it is not without its flaws. Firstly, the player to player connection is at times terrible. However, this is more of a problem in the 4v4 modes. As someone who mainly plays Duel and Brawl, connection issues occurred probably 5 percent of the time. Quitting is tied to this. When a team or player is behind, or they simply just don't like losing, they'll just quit. And connection will either time out with the quitter or you'll be left with a bot. But Ubisoft is adding punishments to quitting like a wait time, so this is hopefully an issue that will be fixed soon.

Secondly, there is an extremely steep learning curve, which I think drives many people away from the game. Not only do you have to learn your individual moveset, but the movesets of every character in order to learn how to exploit individual weaknesses and avoid particular strenghts. There's also the mechanics of counter-gaurdbreaking (getting out of a grab move) and parrying which took me roughly one-two weeks to master and I still screw them up sometime. There's also the fact that many people playing the game now are very experienced. So winning matches will be difficult at first. However, once you learn all of these things. The game becomes unimaginably addictive and fun.

Third, there are character balancing issues. I said previously that victories are dependent on the player and experience, which are true. However, there are some characters that have advantages that make them more challenging to beat than the norm. For example, vortexes (move chain that is difficult to break out of), 50/50 moves (50 percent chance they do one move or another, and if you predict wrong you get punished), and moves that are too quick to defend against. A win is definetely achievable if you're experienced, but will require more focus than the average character.

Next is the Single Player. Many people seem to have an issue with it because its uninteresting and bland, which I completely agree with. But people don't play For Honor for the single player, they play it for the multiplayer. Furthermore, the single player is essentially just a comprehensive practice mode. Its great for learning the mechanics of the game.

Finally the community. Because of these issues, the community is a lot smaller than it once was. You find yourself matched up with people you've fought against before. This isn't a constant thing, but at least once a day I fight around two differnet people I've faced before. The next problem is the commmunity can be pretty toxic at times. If they don't like the way you play or they're just jerks, they can quit on you, taunt over your dead body, and straight up send you hate mail. All these things have happened to me constantly over my during my time with this game.

I know it seems there were more cons than pros to this game, but the pros it does have far outweight the cons. The enjoyment derived from the gameplay of For Honor makes it a game I highly recommend. If you're patient and willing to learn, you will spend dozens upon dozens of hours playing this game. I hope my review was helpful.

I gotta say that I really love how the game works now. Matchmaking has been seriously improved considering the addition of dedicated servers and I always manage to find my way back to For Honor one way or another every couple of days. Considering the massive improvement the development team has put forth, and the progression that was made from release to the present. I have to give this game at least a 9. The only reason I can not give it a 10, is because of the little things. Minor bugs here and there with matchmaking and audio and what not breaks the immersion. I love the game though and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys melee combat in any game!

If that question has ever came up with you and your friends well does For Honor not answer that at all. For Honor is the latest and newest IP from Ubisoft and I have to say they almost had a great game here. I’m getting to far ahead of myself I’m B-rod and I’m reviewing For Honor!!

The game has a story mode that felt so tacked on that you almost could see the board members screaming, “WE NEED A STORY MODE. YOU SAW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN BATTLEFRONT DIDN’T HAVE ONE”. This to me is a prime example of a game that should be multiplayer only, but while I say that the story mode had some fun parts. The set pieces and some of the boss fights were fun as **** The characters you play as… well two of them seem like they could’ve had an interesting story. You start with the Knight campaign where you are a knight who has been recruited into the Black Stone Legion. Which sounds like my Swedish metal band. You basically help the villain Apollyon start a war. A game with just this character could actually be interesting, but we have two more campaigns so eh **** it. Then we have the Viking campaign which did fell like the eh **** it campaign. I had no clue why you were doing anything, and quite honestly they seemed like they were just there. The game gave zero ****s about the Vikings they are sort of the worst faction to play as. Last you get the Samurai campaign where you play a disgraced samurai and you are hunting down the Black Stone Legion to put an end to them. This last campaign showed me that they really had two stories to tell, but had to cut them short to have the Vikings shoved in there. The story is a short 6-hour campaign that serves as a great tutorial to the actual game.

The actual game is the multiplayer where it is a battle for dominance between three factions. Or honestly two because no one but me and like 6 people picked the Viking faction so were are just getting our asses kicked (the first week at least). Regardless you can battle other online foes or bots which are badasses compared to what you fight in story, but still stupid at times. I will say that if you don’t have the combat down to a T then you’ll be in trouble fast and only end up feeling super noobish. The combat is the best part of the game. It is the strategic blocking, counter attack system that is hard to describe except look at Game of Thrones on how they fight and you’ll get an idea. It really is something to marvel at, and I’d love to see it in a 40-hour RPG. In saying that it takes time to get used to, and online you can either get into these badass fights, or some dude spamming one button over and over cause it is nearly unblockable. You can customize the **** out of your warriors and gear if you really care about that **** It can feel a bit free to playish because they want you to earn it by paying the iron price or with actual money can you buy fake money for better gear. (Boo indeed)

Overall if you get the chance definitely rent this game to see if it is your cup of tea. It is something new and different from what we are used to and I appreciate that. Know this the game is made for online if you are a story kind of guy or have **** internet this game is not worth your time. I give this a 3/5 for the gameplay and just being a new IP I’m more lenient on it for that. Until next time brothers in arms go hack some limbs off.

The devs main focus now is also making reworks on heroes that struggled to be efficient in battle. All the joy this game theoretically could deliver you by its flexible and complex (in a good way) combat mechanics, nice visuals and animations of melee fighting gets completely obsolete because of poor net code, weird volatile controls response and non-existing balance. Basically, all the aspects of game are slightly above mediocre level as a maximum.

At this moment game freezes and lags fairly often with no correlation to intensity of what is happening on the screen or connection quality. On average, your character does what you expect him to do when you press the control key/try to make a combo or trick in a battle just 3 out of 4 times. For a game with combat system depending so much on correct timings and pace all these points are inexcusable and destroy the experience.
More over, all the game modes except 4 v 4 Dominion seem to be completely abandoned by the players (generally, on-line is low). There is also a 1v1 mode which is not absolutely dead, but 3 out of 5 times matchmaking brings you to the 3 rounds of painful humiliation by significantly more experienced player as there are very few still playing this mode.

Disconnects and infinite loading screens are in place as well, patches and updates make more chaos in in-game balance rather than performance improvements or core gameplay problems fixes..

However, despite the thorough enjoyment I have gotten from the game, I cannot say it is without it's flaws. I will write this review keeping in mind players who plan on playing For Honor in the near future. I will try to keep this as short as possible.

I'll start with the issues. The community is incredibly toxic. Opponents will send hatemail, teabag you, and use the text prompts to "thank" you for an easy win or "sorry" you lost. Ubisoft chooses not to patch these features out.

Extremely steep learning curve. Not only do you have to master the move set of your character, but you need to know the move set of every other character to best counter them. This will take a while. At least they match people up based off skill and experience, but pray if you're new you don't fight more experienced players.

Bad balancing, Newly released characters are always overpowered, and Ubisoft takes forever to fix them. Even old characters are still either overpowered or underpowered. There are a handful of characters you would classify as "balanced."

Useless modes. There are modes in the game that are hardly played but kept in, and modes that people really love that are taken out (ice battles, carousel of death).

Long wait times. It can take a long time at times to get placed into a game. Varies from day to day.

Now for the good. Once you start mastering the game, the game becomes incredibly addictive. There are no other games like For Honor out right now. It is one of the most high intensity games I've ever played which requires you to be engaged every second you play. Despite all the flaws I mentioned, it is one of my favorite games ever. I'd give it a 9.5 from an enjoyment standpoint.

Awesome game. I have played it for the past 4 years and I don't get tired of it. I just hope Ubisoft make a new for honor and I will be happy

The story is disappointing but it isn't important.
The Matchmaking is ok, the combat system is well done but hard to get used to, the design is cool, the features of the game are too slow.

Good idea for a game but it got tedious and tiring facing broken dlc characters and getting told to eat **** and die for no reason. The toxic community ruins this game.

This game is really good. Beautiful graphic. Its hard on first, but after you know how to parry etc. its good.

Im in love with this game as it its just so fun. the execution system is amazing and all. On the other hand the story is useless unacuracte and outdated. Also the matchmaking system is genuinely dumb as when i didnt have a rep i was put against again rep 40s. The rank system also stupid like why percentages what is the point. But genuinely i have with the game aside from the toxcicty part

The story was pretty decent, but most everyone plays this game for the multiplayer, however over the years this game has slowly lost most of its casual player base and has been drowning in high reputation (level) players that know the in’s and out’s of the combat. not all players mind you are that bad but most of said players are unnecessarily toxic and sweaty and sap out all of the enjoyment out of most every match. The combat is still very fun but it’s difficult to appreciate when the game is so unbalanced and unbearable to play. If you were to pick up This game I recommend playing with friends, even the most infuriating parts of this game are still somewhat bearable with people suffering with you. Expand

9/10 this game has very good combat system, lot of heroes to play, nice skins, very good game, but two things are so annoying 1. This situation when your enemy spams R1(on PS4)or game sends you to 367 reputation on Kyoshin(for egzample)2. These 7 years old kids who buy every new or tlxic character like new pirate. And please return old cuztomization system. That's all, I recomand this game. Expand

An addictive, nuanced and surprisingly deep battler, prevented from being a killer by its lack of variety. [Apr 2017, p.73]

The campaign might disappoint, but the game’s one-on-one online duels will take you to Valhalla. [May 2017, p75]

A brilliant multiplayer battler with a combat system that captures meaty melee battles like no other, but a mediocre single-player unfortunately drags it down. [Apr 2017, p.86]
