    The game itself is great, when you get to finish a match. Otherwise, constant and random so-called disconnects will render most of your matches wasted time, as you wont get any rewards.

    Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now it’s rare for me to get into a multiplayer game. Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of coursed influenced by my personal opinions.

    (2) Broken. Basically unplayable. This game is so insufficient in execution that any value would be derived in extremely small quantities, if at all.

    Bad Business Practices
    (-1) Always Online. If you're not connected to a server you can't experience the game in any way. Even the single player content is locked to you if the servers are down. Perfect example of why gamers hate the online requirement. Five years later, this game is unplayable due to bad servers, kicking you back to the main menu every 10 min. If a company is no longer going to support the game, they should be required to provide an update to at least make the single player content accessible offline.

    This review is based on the current, Sep 23rd 2022, condition of this game on PlayStation. I’ve been going through my backlog and was going to give this game a try for the first time. My first 30 min of trying the game, I got booted to the start menu five times. I first tried the training mode but wouldn’t even let me select any of the tabs. They were either locked for me or I kept on getting a note saying the party leader needs to start this. I wasn’t in a party...just me. I gave up and decided to just start in story mode. Story mode chapter 1.1 says I don’t meet the requirements to start. I’m starting to think, what can I even do in this game. I jump into multiplayer. Finally, something that I can play! I only run into AI lobbies and they are easy. Gets kicked to the start menu. Don’t waste your time with this game in 2022. May have been decent in 2017-2018 but it’s not playable now. At least to newcomers.    … Expand

    9/10 this game has very good combat system, lot of heroes to play, nice skins, very good game, but two things are so annoying 1. This situation when your enemy spams R1(on PS4)or game sends you to 367 reputation on Kyoshin(for egzample)2. These 7 years old kids who buy every new or tlxic character like new pirate. This game is so fun in my opinion and Im in this game like 1 year, I know9/10 this game has very good combat system, lot of heroes to play, nice skins, very good game, but two things are so annoying 1.     Just get gud at the game, this games aged pretty well, way better now than it was in release wich makes some comments aged out like milk

    It's still poorly balanced, as female characters are more OP because Ubicrap is very SJW and politicized, plus they ruined the game after an update that swapped status bars for nonsense perks that are so weak that make zero difference in the gameplay... It's because of this game that I never bought anything else from Ubicrap

    For Honor is a disappointment. When For Honor was announced years ago and I was looking forward to it. I played the beta along with so many others and it was amazing. The gameplay was fun and interesting, I could have a genuine good experience. Then the game released. I think for a few months maybe even a year, the game was good. But then ganking became a huge problem. The name For HonorFor Honor is a disappointment. When For Honor was announced years ago and I was looking forward to it. I think for a few months maybe even a year, the game was good. But then ganking became a huge problem. The name For Honor suddenly became ironic. The only way to have an enjoyable experience was any other mode but Dominion (by far the most popular mode). Ganking isn’t necessarily the problem, I can survive one occasionally, but it’s the fact that the game is based upon combos and weapon speed. It’s not like Rainbow 6 (Ubisofts other hero based title). Your hero can do 23 damage on a light attack but it may take some time, but another hero does 22 and has almost double the swing speed. I know my review is years late but after installing the game, deleting it from not finding any enjoyment, then reinstalling for some miracle that it’s changed multiple times, I have to make one. I think the biggest issue may be SBMM and every game being a sweat fest, but we haven’t really experienced the game without it so we don’t know if that’s the true issue. But from my gameplay it’s heroes and bs combos. I understand For Honor can be considered a fighting game. Much like Absolver or Street Fighter. You have a character and combos and utilize those to gain an upper hand in combat. But I don’t think For Honor should have ever been a fighter like this. I wanted a 4v4 teambased game set in medieval times. It didn’t need characters like Centurion with combos that can disable you for multiple seconds leaving you open to an almost immediate death if ganked and taken advantage of correctly. It didn’t need Hitokiri which has a 1 shot ability that could basically end a game of Siege once you’re in the final stage. It didn’t need Valkyrie which can trip your hero over and over with no limit other than stamina. And it most certainly didn’t need combos to make the game more engaging/interesting, but they added them anyway. I know some fanboys may read this and think that I’m just a bad player and can’t learn the game but that’s far from being true. Every game I play I can adapt to and learn fairly quickly. Whether it be a fast paced game like Call of Duty, a slower bounty hunting game like Hunt: Showdown, a strategy game like Mount & Blade, a full-on RPG like the Witcher. I can learn these games’ playstyle and adapt accordingly and do well. For Honor is no different. Of course I can’t prove it, but it doesn’t matter, my complaint still exists regardless. Heroes shouldn’t have combos. It sounds crazy in a fighting game but it’s simply my problem with it. It feels like combat doesn’t matter as long as you’re going up against a character that has a combo that can stretch out into 25 different moves unless stopped. I think this is why I liked the beta so much. It was a new game with new gameplay features to learn. Nobody really knew how to effectively use combos yet. They just used basic moves like the running attack to chase down enemies. It felt like each swing mattered and I had to genuinely defend against my opponent. Now all the game is: find teammate in combat, lock onto enemy, hit enemy when they are stunned and kill enemy or be on the receiving end of that. It’s not at all the gameplay I remember or loved from the beta. It all becomes worse when you have to grind to get silver to buy the newest, most OP hero when they release. Some guy with a IQ of a raisin will just buy it directly with cash, while people who don’t want to spend anything extra are stuck grinding for days maybe weeks depending on the play time. Then by the time normal people can get the hero they get nerfed a few days later. Honestly that type of design decision baffles me. “Yeah this hero looks cool. I tried her in training but I don’t know how she’ll actually do in actual games” then you spend 10000 silver on a character you don’t end up playing as because they either don’t suit your playstyle or are just trash in regular matches. And you don’t get refunds on heroes. I just wish the game wasn’t a ‘Ubisoft Moment’ and was actually designed to be the game it should’ve been. At the very least it shouldn’t have had SBMM. Every game I get into it says “skill level = on par --“ while the enemy team is 60 reputation above me on their 48 rep heroes. While my team also says on par but they’re rep 4 on one of the starting heroes The games prime was over before it even officially released (the beta) and it’s sad. This game deserves only a 0 from me and it’s not from hate or malice. I’ve genuinely tried to like the game but it does not want me to. I regret every single dollar I spent on For Honor and I wish I would’ve spent my time playing something else.… Expand

That said, the concept remains unique and I appreciate the fact that developers are trying to offer the players something new and different.    … Expand

Unfortunately this game has gone down hill big time. Tons of glitches, trophies don't work, horrid balancing with cheap exploits being the fastest path to victory.     Im in love with this game as it its just so fun. the execution system is amazing and all. On the other hand the story is useless unacuracte and outdated. Also the matchmaking system is genuinely dumb as when i didnt have a rep i was put against again rep 40s. The rank system also stupid like why percentages what is the point. But genuinely i have with the game aside from the toxcicty part

The matchmaking systems is ridiculous, you will be put in matches with overpowered teams who will destroy your team by constantly spamming the same attacks 4 people vs 1.     What started out as being one of the most fun and addictive games I've ever played is now my most hated game. The people that play it are just so toxic now its disgusting. I always get messaged something horrible after every match. But I don't blame them. There are just so many things wrong, at this point I can't even look at the game without getting frustrated.     تشعر بالحماس في البداية لكن للأسف ينطفى ذلك الحماس بعد فترة، ربما ثلاث أشهر بالرغم من أن نظام القتال جميل وبه سلاسة نسبيا واللعب التعاوني ممتع

The combat system is **** to all hell, evertime they try to fix something they break like 8 new things. This game has so much potential but anytime there's progress it gets **** to all hell.

    Current meta of for honor is unbalanced, tons of microtransction. 1 game will only get you a total of less than 100 steel(for honor currency) which make this game more grinding. it took at least 150 match to unlock new heroes not including unlocking gears and upgrading it. Toxic community.

    Worst game ever by ubisoft,thanks god to psnow i didn't throw my money to this TRASH.Story mode is sucks.multiplayer mode is pay to win.That's why i deleted this game after 2 hours.I don't know how much take the develop this TRASH but i can honestly say.You just throw your life time to trash while you develop this game buddy.

Поиграв в релизную версию оказался очень доволен, карт и арен стало еще больше, добавился 5ый режим игры в мультиплеере, также очень порадовало наличие в сюжетной компании кооператива, что позволяет пройти его с друзьями. Масса мелочей для кастомизации , эффекты , эмоцииИграл в закрытую и открытую беты, наиграл не мало времени, игра тогда еще зацепила своим редким и интересным сеттингом. Поиграв в релизную версию оказался очень доволен, карт и арен стало еще больше, добавился 5ый режим игры в мультиплеере, также очень порадовало наличие в сюжетной компании кооператива, что позволяет пройти его с друзьями. Масса мелочей для кастомизации , эффекты , эмоции , зрелищные и разнообразные добивания надолго сохранят стимул коллекционерам не покидать игру. Отдельной галочки здесь заслуживает боевая система, которая хоть и сложна, но безумно интересна, это говорит о том , что проект очень перспективный и будет лишь развиваться в дальнейшем, набирая большую базу игроков. Говорить про графику, движок , анимацию и локации я долго не буду , они очень хороши , в этом можно убедиться , посмотрев трейлеры. Игра очень хороша и разработчики обязаны развивать её до потери пульса!… Expand

    The game has a story mode that felt so tacked on that you almost could see the board members screaming, “WE NEED A STORY MODE. YOU SAW WHAT HAPPENED WHEN BATTLEFRONT DIDN’T HAVE ONE”. This to me is a prime example of a game that should be multiplayer only, but while I say that the story mode had some fun parts. The set pieces and some of the boss fights were fun as **** The characters you play as… well two of them seem like they could’ve had an interesting story. You start with the Knight campaign where you are a knight who has been recruited into the Black Stone Legion. Which sounds like my Swedish metal band. You basically help the villain Apollyon start a war. A game with just this character could actually be interesting, but we have two more campaigns so eh **** it. Then we have the Viking campaign which did fell like the eh **** it campaign. I had no clue why you were doing anything, and quite honestly they seemed like they were just there. The game gave zero ****s about the Vikings they are sort of the worst faction to play as. Last you get the Samurai campaign where you play a disgraced samurai and you are hunting down the Black Stone Legion to put an end to them. This last campaign showed me that they really had two stories to tell, but had to cut them short to have the Vikings shoved in there. The story is a short 6-hour campaign that serves as a great tutorial to the actual game.

    The actual game is the multiplayer where it is a battle for dominance between three factions. Or honestly two because no one but me and like 6 people picked the Viking faction so were are just getting our asses kicked (the first week at least). Regardless you can battle other online foes or bots which are badasses compared to what you fight in story, but still stupid at times. I will say that if you don’t have the combat down to a T then you’ll be in trouble fast and only end up feeling super noobish. The combat is the best part of the game. It is the strategic blocking, counter attack system that is hard to describe except look at Game of Thrones on how they fight and you’ll get an idea. It really is something to marvel at, and I’d love to see it in a 40-hour RPG. In saying that it takes time to get used to, and online you can either get into these badass fights, or some dude spamming one button over and over cause it is nearly unblockable. You can customize the **** out of your warriors and gear if you really care about that **** It can feel a bit free to playish because they want you to earn it by paying the iron price or with actual money can you buy fake money for better gear.     ​Overall if you get the chance definitely rent this game to see if it is your cup of tea. It is something new and different from what we are used to and I appreciate that.     My favorite fighting game. Seriously fun too play. Has a big learning curve and horrendous U.I, besides that it's one of the most enjoyable and balanced PvP games on the market. There is absolutely nothing else on the market like For Honor except for maybe Chivalry.

    A game which specifically requires a millisecond of reaction is running on 30fps on consoles making the animations half smooth, in addition of letting players with a stable ping above 100 to remain in the game.
    It takes me on average 10 minutes to find a server of 7 players in totall (me being the 8) and thats for the most popular game mode in the game (dominion) and my nat is always open, internet always good so connectivity is never an issue for me.
    If anybody is even reading this i am a totall rep 124 and i dislike this game in every way.
    And i am gonna avoid talking about the super crappy launch state it was at the beginning with p2p servers and getting kicked 7 out of 10 games.    … Expand

    Gets old and repetetive very fast. I really tried to it for over 100h but it still sucks. There are clearly much better characters than others. Some have really cool and unique features but most of them are dull spammer. Out of 1 matches maybe one makes a little bit of fun because people actually play for fun and not to spam.

The servers are still awful, and you will very frequently lose connection even with perfect internet speeds. The team balance is also basically non-existent, so get used to playing with bots against a full team of players with a far higher level. Its a fun challenge but it get's boring real quick. But f*** it, if you wanna play - do it! I'll just say don't do it competitively as you will waste a lot of your own time like I did. And do not take it seriously!… Expand

    Its story mode is trash and the AI for bots are generally pretty bad. The online mode however, when you actually connect to a server, is very enjoyable and takes some practice to master. Also love the warmap, fighting over different areas with the two other factions. I wish they had done more with it and made every area a unique map.

    That was the main issue I want to address, even though gameplay is good, half of the playlists are dead, you'll either run out of patience or the game will automatically kick you out of matchmaking.
    The balancing in this game is also questionable, with each new hero being released, it just makes the older characters seem unplayable and have uninteresting kits, take lawbringer for an example, one of the first heroes to be released, still has not received a rework or a buff after 11 heroes has been added to the game.
    Now on to the campaign, the developers stated that if players wishes to enjoy a singleplayer experience, the campaign was more than enough, it will satisfy them. Leaving the fact that the campaign requires internet connection when you are just playing alone aside, the heroes in the campaign had their pre-reworked kits! The developers are soo lazy that they paid no attention to the singleplayer aspect of the game what so ever, it has remained untouched since launch, imagine a new player playing the campaign and moves on the multiplayer, only to realise that the hero now has completely different moves, it's like playing the campaign is soo pointless other than to enjoy the story which by the way, isn't even all that good.
    I have been playing the game since its launch, and as much as I wanted it to succeed, there are just too many issues with the game, and that it just seems like the developers are too lazy to fix those issues, or paying attention in the wrong place, the game had soo much potential, it is sad to see the game turned out the way it did.    … Expand

I will write this review keeping in mind players who plan on playing For Honor in the near future. I will try to keep this as short as possible.

    I'll start with the issues. The community is incredibly toxic. Opponents will send hatemail, teabag you, and use the text prompts to "thank" you for an easy win or "sorry" you lost. Ubisoft chooses not to patch these features out.

    Extremely steep learning curve. Not only do you have to master the move set of your character, but you need to know the move set of every other character to best counter them. This will take a while. At least they match people up based off skill and experience, but pray if you're new you don't fight more experienced players.

    Bad balancing, Newly released characters are always overpowered, and Ubisoft takes forever to fix them. Even old characters are still either overpowered or underpowered. There are a handful of characters you would classify as "balanced."

    Useless modes. There are modes in the game that are hardly played but kept in, and modes that people really love that are taken out (ice battles, carousel of death).

    Long wait times. It can take a long time at times to get placed into a game. Varies from day to day.

    Now for the good. Once you start mastering the game, the game becomes incredibly addictive. There are no other games like For Honor out right now. It is one of the most high intensity games I've ever played which requires you to be engaged every second you play. Despite all the flaws I mentioned, it is one of my favorite games ever. I'd give it a 9.5 from an enjoyment standpoint.    … Expand

As such it's far more advantageous to simply wait for your opponent to do a thing, then do the counter to that thing, and then win. Because of this matches become boring slogs with two opponents staring each other down waiting for the other to make a move. The loser of these games end up being the first one to lose their patience and actually play.

    Mastery in this game is not achieved by learning the ins and out of your character but by memorizing the timings and counters to the moves of every single other character. In a normal game these kinds of things would be communicated through animations or other kinds of visual queues. But the artists for this game were to busy modeling the several thousands of cosmetics you're expected to pay for instead of making sure the game didn't look like an incomprehensible mess. Am I supposed to block this attack? Parry? Counter attack? Dodge left, right, or backwards? Well you've better have memorized it and every other attack in the game because you're not going to be able to figure out how to react just by looking at it. Things which look like they're dodgable aren't dodgable, characters glide across the ground, teleport behind you, and lunge 20 feet across the map. Clearly communicating the state of the characters on screen and their attacks is the one job that the art in a fighting game has and For Honor fails miserably.

    These are all issues which were obvious over a year ago when the game came out and yet they have not been fixed. They know they're never going to get a second chance at the numbers they had at launch so now Ubisoft is prioritizing extracting as much money as possible out of the whales who've had the poor judgement to the game. The game has not been fixed, will never be fixed, and isn't worth anyone's time or money.    … Expand

    The game in it`s current state is much better than on release. Characters got reworks, new maps and game modes added, new Marching fire upcoming. The connection issues are no longer present for most of the time. Whole new faction incoming in September... Give this game a chance now. It`s worth it.

    The game as of right now is amazaing! The server issues have mostly been fixed and tons of new content is added. And with the Marching Fire update coming. Its gonna be great! If you like fighting games with a really unique system thags easy to learn hard to master. Try this.

    At this moment game freezes and lags fairly often with no correlation to intensity of what is happening on the screen or connection quality. On average, your character does what you expect him to do when you press the control key/try to make a combo or trick in a battle just 3 out of 4 times. For a game with combat system depending so much on correct timings and pace all these points are inexcusable and destroy the experience.
    More over, all the game modes except 4 v 4 Dominion seem to be completely abandoned by the players (generally, on-line is low). There is also a 1v1 mode which is not absolutely dead, but 3 out of 5 times matchmaking brings you to the 3 rounds of painful humiliation by significantly more experienced player as there are very few still playing this mode.

    Disconnects and infinite loading screens are in place as well, patches and updates make more chaos in in-game balance rather than performance improvements or core gameplay problems fixes..    … Expand

The only reason I can not give it a 10, is because of the little things. Minor bugs here and there with matchmaking and audio and what not breaks the immersion. I love the game though and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys melee combat in any game!

    The combat is definitely the best part of this game. The multiplayer and story however are super lackluster. The multiplayer just doesn't really work, and the story was just terrible. The game had so much potential, let's just hope they improve with the next game.

    I'll be honest, For Honour is a special game and it's been a rocky road over the last year. I've put at least 200 hours in it and it always keeps me coming back, and the reason is that despite its many flaws, the gameplay is unique and you can actually see that the devs do care about this game, even though they might not know exactly what to do all the time.     The combat for this game is fun, but aside from that I could never recommend this game for far to many reasons. The insane amount of time or money to unlock things, the wait time to even get into a game are just a few of the issues.

    This is my third revised review, I have to say I am quite surprised that the devs really did listen to gamer's voices. Now they have launch dedicated server and it works so well. They also keep fixing balance issue. It is not perfect yet but still much better than the original state. I have noticed the increase in number of new players.     Ignore comments from people complaining about p2p etc. This will be addressed in the future by the developer also on console. The game requires some patience and learning the move-sets of the different characters. It is fundamentally simple by design and yet with a very high skill cap. That is not a basis to review a game, the game was never designed around the idea that one should unlock every characters items. you pick a couple of favorite heroes and focus on those, there are literally hundreds if not thousands of customization options. These options to make your heroes feel truly unique to you as it is rare to come across someone using for example the same type of armor, color scheme, armor embossing and symbols, gender and ornaments.

    Good graphics, excellent combat, plenty to unlock which is well structured to enable and encourage you to learn each character and keep you coming back. The game has a number of modes to play, all of which are fun and relatively short meaning you do not get bogged down in overly long matches. I would recommend any new player thinking of getting the game to play the practice modes, both basic and advanced. they do not take long, as well as to play the campaign and some duels against bots to learn one hero well before jumping into duels or matches against players. It can be quite frustrating getting rolled over by moves you do not understand how to counter or avoid. As well as this you will be able to try most of the base game characters to find one that truly suits your play style and even skill level..

    As with any game of this nature there will always be some balance issues between the classes. This is no different than any other game and again people complaining about overpowered heroes etc need to shut up and go and look at other games on the market. They all have these issues. It would be almost impossible for any dev to make upwards of 18 highly unique characters purely balanced and an even match for each other. It is a game of counters and strategies, get over it.

    All in all a great game that had some issues at launch which I think it is clear the developers want to get past to make the game a success.    … Expand

    But that does not matter one damn bit if I CANNOT EVEN PLAY THE **** GAME. I can count myself lucky if I can get connected to a match after the most frustrating 10 ten minutes of my day. That's if I'm lucky. This is even when trying to join a multiplayer mode listing the player population "very high activity". When I eventually do find a match and can actually join in a map I have to cross my fingers and hope I or other player and not booted mid-game which happens frequently. Even so much as creating an in game party with friends is just luck-of-the-draw as to whether or not I can even play against friends. Sometimes I get lucky, but alot of the time I get some "Can't connect, try again later" **** It's not long before I come to the realization that I am having less fun and exponentially more frustrated than I was when I wasn't playing the game.

    Be it known that my internet speed runs between 80-100 mbps. Ive tested out every single router configuration possible as listed in ubisoft's very own support page, including port forwarding, using static/dynamic ip, dmz and firewall settings, etc. I even went a step further to reinstall the game and rebuild the ps4 database for good measure. Absolutely no difference to the **** multiplayer experience whatsoever.

    What it really boils down to is that while the game itself may be great, by the time one can actually play the game you and your friends will all be too frustrated and pissed off to even want to look at this **** game to even bother a second time. Every other game developer whose games focus on multiplayer can connect to a match no problem with minimal wait times. But nope, not Ubisoft. **** you apparently because Ubisoft cannot even be bothered as a developer not to royally **** up step number one of facilitating any type of multiplayer game. But you know what pisses me off the most? I've played other Ubisoft multiplayer games such as Rainbow Six and The Division. And the sheer lack of competence in the ability to be able to connect to other players is not an isolated incident for Ubisoft. It is something they are consistently terrible at. Either they apparently just do not give a flying rats ass about the players who pay money for this garbage or they are just too stupid to learn from past mistakes. Or both. Either way, the Ubisoft logo and brand now I find synonymous with the word "garbage" or the phrase "do not buy", and you should too.    … Expand

    Bad controls, stupid lock on system, you need to grind the game for years to get all the characters and equipment unless if you are wiling to spend even more money on this game... the graphics are nice, that's all!

    Buy Chivalry instead!!!
