Excellent game, but I took off 2 points for the overpriced monthly subscription price.

I don't mind games with a monthly fee (esp mmo's), but if we're already paying $40 for the game, there is no reason to charge an additional $15 per month. $5 would of been fine, and you probably would of gotten more people to buy it.

Best MMO on consoles/PC with cross-platform play between both. Also the best Final Fantasy game to come out in years. This is a must buy for fans of classic Final Fantasy games and MMOs alike.

It's absolutely not for the casual gamer, who wants an ordinary campaign or a game they can jump right into. It takes time, but it pays off into an engrossing massive fantasy that relishes in your freedom of gameplay. After 20 hours, you should have a decent understanding of most aspects of the gameplay and be into the main quest. What was complex will become second nature, enabled largely by the intuitive PS4 controller. What was hokey or dull becomes very alive with solid lore that stays very true to the Final Fantasy classics. The game seems most influenced by FF I, II, and III (in the west). If you played these games when you were younger, you'll delight in seeing their evolved return in MMO form. There are so so many things that you can do -and perhaps the greatest achievement of the game- is that most of these things are actually quite fun. Navigating becomes realistic, combat becomes more strategical, and even things like crafting become truly entertaining in their gameplay. Being able to quest with every class on the same character really makes it interesting. Another great achievement is that it does not feel grindy or like you have to farm. Again, there is so much to do- you can just let your character explore or you can plan your objectives with goals in mind. The culture is excellent, join a nice Free Company, and the social element of the game also becomes a pleasure. The graphics on the PS4 are very good and really show the detail of the Final Fantasy artwork, which flows without delay everywhere you travel. The music is great and the lack of voice acting is, in my opinion, mostly a plus. I can't stand when you hear the same voice actors playing different characters in a game. Also, I can read much faster than they speak. Perhaps they could have been improved with some more voice acting in cut scenes, but for the most part, I prefer it as it is. With all that being said, there is nothing particularly mind blowing or ground breaking in the game. It still has its frustrations and repetitions, particularly in side quests. The plot is your standard Japanese anime about good versus evil, other dualities, and the need for balance. The dialogue is mostly well written and there is a ton of dialogue content. Personally, I hate the ye ole English style of the dialogue. The subscription price is warranted for the content updates. It's just a solid Final Fantasy MMO. You can really choose to do whatever you want in this game. Nothing is forced.I t's a great game to enjoy for many hours - ultimately, for the freedom it gives. Expand

Let me start off by saying that this game is awesome. I didn't know it was an MMO. I tried World of Warcraft 3 different times and didn't get it. It took awhile to get the layout of the HUD and buttons to my liking, especially how to customize the target cycling, but once I did, this game became very engaging. I'm not the type to sit and play for 3 or 5 hours straight. I do 1, maybe 2 hours tops and this game plays to that style as well. I'm a solo player too, and it gives me the option to pair up with other players that are at the same point I am in the storyline, so I don't have to pout over the fact I don't have any friends (online).

THE ONLY reason I took off a point is because of the HIGH $15/month subscription fee. I don't see myself paying this for more than 2 months unless they lower it to something life $5/month. Even if I don't finish the story, the steep price tag on the monthly will cause me to cancel it and get on the internet to find out how it ends. Who knows, I might change my mind as I get further in.

    I highly recommend this game.

sure there's no voice chat over the game (but there are other means of chatting), and there are not many ingame synchros,.... but when strafing through those panoramas, having plenty to do, you wont mind at all..

seems as if, this game has become what many where hoping for from TESO, which couldn't deliver.. (didn't expect FFXIV to be so epical..., only at the begging, as a MMO noob, there was a lot to understand/get used too, but once you get over that start phase and into the "wild", it will gripp you as much as Skyrim did back then...)

I had tried out the free trial at first, and played until level 35 (which was the trial level cap at the time). For the first 10 levels, I thought the game was boring, and I had no idea why I had seen so many good reviews for it. Still, I wanted to play more, and I was holding out for the game to get better than it was early on.

    I'm glad I did.

I leveled up more, play more story quests, did dungeons and trials and all that, and I realized how fun and interesting the game actually was. The story was easily the strongest part of this game. It felt like a roller coaster, going from generic, to interesting, to depressing and melancholy. The gameplay is also complex yet simple to understand, using the classic WoW style of abilities that you use that have different effects. The open world has various areas that are all different from each other. Eorzea as a whole is beautiful to explore, whether it's the luscious green forests of the Black Shroud, or the harsh frozen wastes of Coerthas.

Even though the story is the best part of FFXIV, I just have to commend the multiplayer aspect. Running a dungeon or trial with friends was fun, and the high level raids that are available at level 50 require strategy and positioning that made beating them all the more satisfying.

My only problem with this game is the monthly subscription. It costs double to play this game for a year than what it costs for PS Plus and Xbox Live for a year. Other than that, this has to be one of the best multiplayer games I've ever played. Nay, this is one of the best games I've ever played, period.

This game brought Square Enix out of ther money hole. This game is awesome. You can have one character level in every class which benefits you because you can use certian skills with every class making you even stronger. I would give it a 10 but like all MMOs, they get very annoying toward the end for your final gear and very repetitive.

I played the Beta phase A and I hated it... I couldn't read anything because the text was so tiny I felt like I was going blind trying to read it and I only played it for like 3 hours. I am so glad I gave it another shot! I play alot of games... I mean alot... and part of that reason is I get bored easy so I play a little of this game and a little of that game and move on, but this game has captured me. The text size is fixed and once I got the hang of all of the systems and the new controls (to me, a console gamer) and understood not to run around in circles trying to shoot an arrow (who knew) and finally got some badass gear, I fell in love with this game.
It was about hour 5 of gameplay but every hour after has been so freaking sweet. I've generally had a bad attitude about mmos because it seems like you're constantly having to talk to people and interact with non npcs and it just seemed like a bother, but this game lets you play alone most of the time and when you are required to group for a dungeon or raid it does it for you! You get mounts, pets and other awesome customization items. I don't even want to think about how many hours it would take me to level 50 all the jobs... but I'm sure gonna try.
This game even made me think about cancelling ps plus and just by the sub for this... and I might...
At first I was worried that I wouldn't be able to cancel after my first 30 days ( when I was sure I would be done with it) but they don't even charge you unless you sign up! I bought trials fusion this week too but haven't even touched it. That's saying something.
If you like RPGs, customization, playing alone or with friends, awesome graphics, grinding, a good story, switching from weapon to weapon, magic, crafting, xp, final fantasy or if you were scared to get into an mmo... this is the game for you. It is almost perfect. I can't think of any negatives. This game will consume you. Get it.

Basically I saw potential and was thrilled to see that it would be a full upgrade for ps4 a few months later. Flash forward to the early access weekend. I played this game pretty much all weekend and I can say that it is very fun. I did not feel the need to grind that has kept me away from many mmorpgs in the past. Literally everywhere you go there is a quest, leve, or dungeon to take part in. You never feel like you have to go out a farm creatures for hours on end to gain exp. This to me was a major plus as I have not felt obligated to put in hours to advance in the game at all. The one point mark off is the same as many user reviews, the lack of voice acting, while you may read all of the dialogue, I find myself skipping most of it. This however does not detract from the experience as its easy to piece together the story without reading the massive book of dialogue that is present.

    Overall the graphics are great
The controls with the ps4 controller are outstanding(if they make more mmorpgs that use this format, I would def play the genre more on ps4)
The game if over all fun.

I would recommend the purchase, or at least a look if you are not a regular MMORPG player such as myself

I don't write many reviews, but when i do it's for games that really grab my attention and i feel need talking about, weather that be to heavily slate or praise it, or if i just feel people need to know about this game.

I'm writing about Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn because it's the first MMORPG in a very long time that actually feels like a game again. This may sound strange, but MMO games today are more about the end game content, micro transactions and constant grinding.

Take World of Warcraft as an example, over the years since Wrath of the Lich King, the game has become easier and easier, players are shooting to the level cap faster thanks to features put into the game by Blizzard to allow players to skip past everything easily. Anything that once required hard work to earn is now handed to players on a silver platter.

Because of my expirience with many MMOs i was reluctant to start a new one, so when i did try and went for Final Fantasy XIV i found myself emerged in a world i couldn't leave, enhanced by the fact that it's played on the PS4.

This is not to say that playing the game on a PC would reduce the enjoyment of it by any means, but while playing Final Fantasy XIV: ARR on the PS4, i've found that it barely feels like a grindy boring MMO at all. Using the controller to quickly switch between abilities, smoothly navigate the User interface and freely interact with the game world makes for a very fun and unique expirience.

But let's talk about gameplay for a second, what sets it apart in terms of gameplay from other MMORPGs? Players are given a choice of combat classes upon creating their character, but this does not seal their fate as to what they play, because at any point in the game, a player may switch their class to any other class in the game and eventually level all classes to maximum, this is true for both combat related classes and crafting or gathering classes.

Each class is topped off with a unique mini story quest chain every 5 levels into the class that makes it worth leveling that class just to find out what happens next.

Speaking of quests, leveling and classes, there's much to do in the game to earn XP and level yourself up, including FATEs, which are random events that pop up in every map offering different challenges each time for players all around to jump into and earn XP, Gill and other bonuses, then you have Dungeons and Gildhests, pitting a team of 4 players together against numerous foes and bosses, and lastly, the Primals.

Let's backtrack a second though, I want to talk a little more about the gameplay on a PS4.
I know some people are thinking "It's an MMO, there's gonna be TONS of abilities and items that players will want to use, how can you fit all of that onto a tiny controller?" Well..

The "Crossbar" which is the PS4s version of a Hotkey Bar is made up of 16 blocks devided into 2 sets of 8 on both the left and the right, and accessable by L2 for the left, and R2 for the right.
Each set of 8 is layed out to look similar to a controller, with 4 buttons representing the face buttons, and the other 4 representing the D-pad.
"Ok, 16 buttons isn't bad, but that's still not enough!" you might argue, and you're right. Many players will want many more buttons than that quickly accessable to them without needing to switch crossbars, but that's where the extra hotbars come in. Once turned on through the config menu, players can access a whole other set of 16 blocks by simply holding down L2 and R2 in a certain order, L2 then R2 for one set of 8, or R2 then L2 for another set, giving players access to a whole 32 abilities and items at a time!

Lastly, User Interface and HUD. Players have alot of customisation in the config menus and have complete control over how their screen looks, from resizing every part or window, to moving it somewhere else, It's such a simple feature but really helps make a game.

I should probably wrap this up, i know it sounds like i've been more positive than anything towards Final Fantasy XIV: ARR, but that's because there's not much to say negatively about this game, it does well what many other MMOs fail to do at all. The graphics are beautiful, allowing each player to really emerse themselves in this magical world. The gameplay i've already spoken about enough, even if you've played a hundred MMOs, FFXIV:ARR offers something new you'll come to love. Overall i would give this game a 10/10.

    Thanks for Reading.

First off, I want to state that MMORPG subscriptions do not bother me, as long as they are not exorbitantly expensive. As I received the game as a gift, I'm not going to comment on its price either.

    Now, on with my review.

The story is fairly solid and well written, but also the overall theme and elements of the story are typical of the series. The leveling experience is easy, with a lot of alternate methods to use to help mitigate the monotony of grinding. The game's replayability is very good, as you can level every class and job on one character.

The endgame is very diverse, if a bit shallow in depth. Currently it's a trivial affair to gear up in raid-level gear and begin raiding literally within a few hours of hitting level 50.

But the major flaws in the game are very evident as well...

Crafting is needlessly overcomplicated and perhaps the most tedious and downright infuriating system I've ever experienced in ANY game. In order to even have a chance of successfully crafting top-end items in high quality, you are almost forced into having every crafting class maxed out... which is a terrible game design decision that SE has made.

While some may not agree with me, the lack of a basic service that most MMORPGs have, and is expected to be a standard in the genre... And that is character renaming. There really is no reason why this hasn't been implemented.

TL;DR: FFXIV:ARR is a very solid game that is a vast improvement over its previous incarnation. But glaring flaws prevent it from becoming a great game.

I'll remain subscribed, but only in the short term.

I absolutly love this game! I am almost at level 15.
Pros; MMORP with good graphics on PS4, Emotes were amazing, chocobo music was enthralling, great story line, and amazing combat!

Cons; the map functions were very frustrating at first, some controls are very unnatural. It really feels like a port from P.C. (which it is).

Wonderful MMORPG! 2 points off for the frustration involved in signing up and the immense amount of gold spammers on the servers. The developers need to enact more effective methods to prevent these accounts from continuously sending you spam messages. Other than that, a really great game with an awesome story (a rarity among MMOs)

The MMO is a crazy world. Being a fan of the Zelda series on Nintendo, I instantly loved the charm and beauty of this world, and I think I'd have kept up my subscription if it wasn't for the fact I was playing alone... if my friends had the time I did to put into it, it would have been amazing. That's not to say the few hundred hours I spent over a 3 months were not well worth the subscription (you get 30days free - so paid additional £8ish per month for 2 extra months) ... the realm is diverse, abundant with things to do and the RPG elements like crafting and buying gear is excessive. You can even craft to sell to other human players, which was a nice touch.
Alike most levelling MMOs though, this does end up with a lot of grinding the same enemies in areas to rank up to be able to explore new levels. The earlier levels are easily done via the open world missions and those guild requests etc, but by the time you are early 30s in level, it does take slog along the same bits to level successfully. I'm a RPG fan though, and dont mind this so much.

I'm really looking forward to the new FF games on the PS4 coming out this year now, but have saved my account and will one day like to re-explore A realm Reborn and try and get those later stage levels.

A brilliant game, lovingly made with great mechanics... Try the current Free trial and I'm sure you'll be a fan in no time

Where most MMO's seem to resent that they have to tell you a story ARR actually seems to be enjoying it. In fact, it's probably the best story in a FF game since 9 (granted, that's not a high bar...). I really can't praise this game enough.

Some other things I like about this game:

-The NPCs have actual personality. I still click past their text half the time but I still appreciate the effort!

-Quests are for more than gear and cash. They also unlock tons of extras like dungeons, mounts, pets, access to new bosses/dungeons, new gameplay mechanics, and silly dances. This makes your quest grinding surprisingly rewarding

-I FREAKING LOVE the duty finder. If you want to run a dungeon you don't have to go around begging for people to join your party. You can just open the DF, say you want to run a particular dungeon, and the DF will make a party for you. As someone who spent many an hour in FF11 begging white mages to join my group this is greatly appreciated.

-Chocobo racing/breeding just got added and it is exactly as stupidly addicting as you remember it being in FF7

CONS: This game doesn't do instant gratification well. In fact that's the main reason I have problem getting others to join (that and people really hate to pay subscriptions these days). As I wrote above much of the game's content is unlocked through quests and exploration. The downshot of that is you can't do a lot of group activities until later on in the game. In fact in many ways the game is basically a single player game until you unlock airships and dungeons around level 15 (I think).

It goes beyond that though. Most of the cool stuff in this game you will have to put some effort into getting. Your early gear will look like ass, your early quests will have you delivering pretzels, and your early gameplay options will be limited. This is by design so that you appreciate it when you're dragon kicking a 2 story tall Ultima weapon in the face in your aetherial battle-thong. However, this seems to be a big sticking point for many more experienced/impatient MMO players who don't want their hand held and just want to turn on the game and be a badass right from the start. I guess I can understand that, but I found the payoff more than worth the effort.

This game is not without it's flaws but most of those flaws have to do with patches, subscription fees etc (problems which are expected from almost all mmos). But as a game, as a final fantasy game in particular, this game is amazing. It's worth a shot for anyone who's a fan of mmos and/or final fantasy games.

A reboot of the unsuccessful Final Fantasy XIV, A Realm Reborn fixes all of the things that were bad from the original, and adds new on creating a massive and immersive open-world, and powerful narrative, as well as lots of customisation, side-quests and freedom.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has you create your character first. You can choose from several templates, such as the feline-like Miqo'te, the minute Lalafell, the giant Roegadyn, the human Hyur or the elf Elezen. You then have to select a world to play in, however this can be quite tricky as most of the worlds are full. Finally you'll have to select a class such as Gladiator, Archer, etc. Each one will give you a 'home' city: either the rich desert city of Ul'dah, the lush forest city of Gridania or the seaside city of Limsa Lominsa. Classes can also be upgraded by levelling up a different class, allowing for more combinations. There are also secondary classes such as Botanist, Miner, etc. which allow you to gain XP and rare items, as well as something to do in your spare time.
I won't go into the narrative too much, but along the way you'll have to fight demons, monster tribes and work with strangers, performing your duty to clear dungeons. While the start of the main story will be different depending on your city, the narrative will eventually merge together as all the cities combine to face an ultimate threat.
In conclusion, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a fantastic MMORPG that allows for great online play, whether it be clearing dungeons with strangers or messing around with them using funny emotes. The amount of customisation is something we don't usually get in a Final Fantasy game, with literally dozens of different armour and weapons available. Square Enix also continually update the game with new characters and classes to allow for more freedom and build on its already strong narrative, particularly with the Heavensward expansion, which feels like a whole different game in itself. However, and I probably should've mentioned this earlier, the game does require a subscription, which you can choose to update monthly or yearly - whilst not overly pricey it can get annoying when you get to a really exciting part in the game and then run out of spare change. Just two words: BUY IT.

Now before anyone thinks 'But the game gets SO MUCH BETTER' that's a crock of **** if the game fails to captivate the player in the first few hours (which should be it's best moments of gameplay), then it has failed the rest.

The first few quests I found myself doing were the worst: Fetch quests. I was told to go and pick up some items, or talk to some random NPC in the city, and these just dragged ON AND ON until I explored the whole city. I know the game is trying to convey a sense of exploration and meaning in exploring the city, but forcing the player and guiding them through linear tunnels of quests is certainly not a good way to make a first impression.

Eventually, I finally got a quest where I could try out some combat. I thought that this must be the area where the game must shine, but instead it was mostly just cycling my 3 skills and dodging some telegraphed attacks, shown as little quarter circles and such on the ground you have to move out of or you take large amounts of damage .

At about this time, I noticed that this game must have taken some huge inspiration from Guildwars 2 (One of my all time favorites), The telegraphed attacks, weapons changing gameplay, the FATE system, the personal story, and so on. However, minus the personal story, they seem patched on and no where near as competent or fun as the games role-model.

I got to about level 10 when I stopped playing, and boy did it feel like forever. I was really bored and disinterested and level 10 is generally the area where MMOs should pick up but unfortunately Final Fantasy XIV didn't seem to be going anywhere special.

Obviously this game is trying its hardest after its previous launch failure to be a great MMO, but it has completely and utterly disgusted me in the first few hours of gameplay, which is something no game, especially MMOs, should do. The only thing going through my head when I was playing this was 'I wish I was playing Guildwars 2, it does this so much better'.

The graphics on this game are superb. I have loved the Final Fantasy series since I owned my first 8 bit cartridge. BUT the UI / Control System and Quest tracking on this game is a total mess. Thus, I believe 5 is a bit generous (I was leaning more towards 4.) In summary, a beautiful, unplayable console MMO.

Most MMORPG's fail in my opinion because they do well in one area but lack in all the others. This is a well rounded MMORPG experience that will be a safe buy for any MMO or Final Fantasy fan. My main dispute with the game is the main quest line. I couldn't help but not care about any of the quests in this game except the final ones. You have to prove yourself a lot which in hindsight is expected, but the way they make you prove yourself is stupid. For instance, before you are allowed to fight a harder boss, you must first kill something that is incredibly easy. They try to hype up what you are doing as something difficult but it really isn't. Just time consuming. The game didn't offer me enough challenge or variety when it came to this aspect of the game.

I wish MMO's would realize that dragging the progression of a story on and on in attempt to milk dollars from players is a thing of the past. At least it should be. Why not create a shorter story line experience that doesn't beat around the bush and stop forcing players to do meaningless tasks? Why not offer other content that is as satisfying and fun in order to help players level up? None of the dungeons I played really wowed me, as well as the gear received. The queues were surprisingly long considering how many people are currently playing it. I didn't walk away feeling accomplished for looting a rare drop like I have in other MMO's such as WoW and SWTOR. I never felt like I had an advantage in this game when it came to gear because it never seemed like I killed enemies any quicker with or without better gear.

I know it seems like I just s*** on this game, but I did enjoy my experience with it. I'm hoping that other companies would look at what Square Enix did and implement the same effect in remaking some failed titles. *Cough* Mass Effect 3 *Cough* *Cough*. Anyways, 7/10 is a fair score for this game. Good job Square Enix!

*There is no enough real endgame content, it is only one 8 man raid with 4 boss fights. (can only do 1 time a week)

*The game has a lot of restrictions to favor casual players and keeping the game becoming obsolete because of the lack of real endgame.

*The crafting system is obsolete since they have let ppl know that dungeon gear will always be better than crafting gear. And you need to level all the crafting classes to be effective.

*The Customer Service is terrible and when they answer they send you a copy-pasted generic response with no help at all.

Fast forward 5 years since its release to the new version which I decided to play out of sheer boredom. It's still just as terrible. Not sure what they meant by "rebuilding the game from the ground up" because it is literally the same awful game we all played and walked away from 5 years ago.

I'm an MMO vet, dating back to the mid-90s. I've played/beta tested pretty much every MMO worth mentioning. Let me just say that there is little to no improvement over the last version. First off, the game starts out by making you do the most mundane quests imaginable in the starter city. You are literally BEGGING for excitement at some point. Nevertheless, you will keep playing because you think "surely it will get better". Nope. It actually gets worse.

The UI/HUD is a nightmare. Why you need so many options is beyond me. Second, you need a magnifying glass to read anything, even on my 55" big screen. Oh, and the map?! Useless. Plus it's microscopic and can't be made fullscreen...

Combat is just as bad. No fluidity. No fun. Just the worst.

I wanted to like this game. I really did. But the fact is, it's a waste of time. SE has no idea what they are doing in the MMO realm and should have just cashed in when they had the chance. How this game got any positive reviews is amazing to me. Paid reviews are the only answer here, as you can clearly see in the difference between REAL user reviews and the obviously fake ones. Anyone rating this game higher than a 5 or a 6 is a paid reviewer I promise.

Anyway, this is a cash grab and a mediocre attempt at making back some of the money they lost during the first release. Nothing much has changed at all. It's still awful, just has a different name (sort of).

No voice acting either, so I hope you like reading tiny text for hours on end. Immersion? Yeah right. Unless you are referring to being immersed in failure, in which case Square Enix has that in spades. Can you hear me all the way back there in 1996? This game will take you there I promise.

Now mind you, I WANT to say something positive here. I'm not the kind of guy who writes purely bad reviews. But to be perfectly honest, it's mediocre in every area. Literally EVERY area. Don't waste your time or money. I would return it, but I bought the digital download. Well done, Square Enix, you got my $20. Now please, sod off.

I never review games because for the most part I don't really think anyone should care about my personal opinion on games, I think that everyone should be able to make an educated decision on their own based on their own preferences and whatever information is available to them from whoever their trusted resources are, and there are plenty on the internet.

That aside, I felt compelled to write this.

Two reasons, and I wont go into very much detail on the first. Number one, this game is absolutely awesome. I'm not even an MMO fan, but this game is the game I wanted desperately for FFXIII and FFXIII-2 to be. It had that Final Fantasy feel that I have been feeling without for many years and it was nice to see it again. There are a million reviews about what is good about this game and I will just leave it at that.

Number 2, and the most important part of this review. I downloaded this game a few days before it's official release on the PSN and pre-ordered it on the SE official page. First off I uploaded the two 12 digit codes given to me on my receipt to the PSN and still couldn't play it. That was because unknowingly to me, my PS4 did not upload the licenses I was entitled to from my PSN purchases. It took me a few hours of forum searching and one unanswered trouble ticket to SE to find on my own, with no warning of this issue whatsoever. That's fine, I'm a capable adult and I'm relatively resourceful. Three days of outstandingly fun gameplay later, I'm looking forward to getting back on, and.... "No valid service account is available to play FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn". It's been 36 hours and I just finally got an acknowledgement that my trouble ticket that I put in for this error has been received and I should get a reply "within 2 days".

Now, I'm a firm believer that any game that doesn't work should be default receive a "0" ranking. But I was having such a good time with it, and I'm legitimately sad that this issue has happened that I had to be real and come to an approximate middle ground for my rating. Apparently many people who bought this game from the PSN in Europe are having this problem and a few people have actually gotten through to SE and received a work around. I have not. So in conclusion, do your research. From what I understand, most people who bought physical copies are not having this problem. People who bought the game from Amazon and a few other places found work arounds. I'm one of the few that cannot. I encourage you if you are an MMO and/or FF fan to play this game. Like I said, when I was actually in the world, I was enjoying it much, much more than I anticipated. Just don't end up like so many of us who have put money and time into this product and are victims to SE's customer support.

    Now to my review....

For the price of the game and the monthly fee I was very strict going into this one so....

    Good:
    - Graphics are amazing, PS3 and PS4 versions do not compare graphically or framerate wise.
    - A lot of stuff to do
    - A lot of class choices

    Bad:
    - Like I said in good "A lot of stuff to do", for someone like me that can also be bad if I'm trying to do too much at once lol.. I can't multitask :X
    - Doesn't feel too interactive with other users really.... Everyone just walks by you without a hello or gesture... Seems kinda like a SP game just full of more functional npcs lol (No I don't expect this all the time but it just makes the game seem not like an MMO.. WoW was more "chatty" per say..)
    - Doesn't seem worth the $15 a month, thankfully I got a free month free. Deciding if I want to do a month or two but than this game will probably sit on the shelf unplayable collecting dust...

A very enjoyable MMORPG. Some questing is repetitive, but most of these types of games will have that. I would recommend to anyone looking for an MMO on a next gen console. The online subscription is a bit of a drawback but if you are playing it as I am it's totally worth it. This is probably the best game out on PS4 right now and I look forward to all the hours I have yet to experience on it!

The story dungeons is the most retarded thing. Who thought it would be a good idea, to FORCEFULLY make people group up to complete the story? Not that I don´t like grouping, but I spent 2 hours trying to find a group with the in-built dungeon finder.

The quests are incredible boring, and I simply gave up at level 34.

Combat is boring, guild wars 2, Elder scrolls online, and many other MMO´s have much better combat. And while the game certainly tries to make it better, by you having to dodge skillshouts, it ultimately falls flat.

Only some of the cutscenes have voiceover, making the rest feel lazy and imcomplete

I played this on PS3, PC and PS4. The PS4 version is the only one I enjoy but on PS4 I give it a perfect 10. The graphics are so much better, frame rates are great, and the touch pad makes all the difference with controls. If you have a PS4, thid is the only must buy title, until Q4 when ESO finaly comes out, maybe.

Square Enix under went n astonishing make over for a Realm Reborn! the game had great potential and some of the best character designs seen in MMO's to date. However the console chosen for the game was not quite ready to handle the vast amount of data needed to run FFXIV, PS4 even with the best internet connection speed cannot handle MMO's, it's FPS (frames per second) causes the game to be choppy and chalky in heavily populated areas or large graphic fighting. infact for most of the 70+ hours I played and adventured in the game, there were very few places I did not experience the constant skipping and lag. After purchasing the game you will have to wait at least 4 to 6 hours to play it due to the enormous download needed to play plus all the patches and updates. Another problem with the PS4 is that even if you put the system on standby it tends to shut down all downloading and when you start the system back up you will be commencing your downloads from where it stopped. It took my PS4 nearly 11 hours to get all the data needed and I have a great internet connection. Ultimately though the game is nice in graphics and the idea of the game was great, the console is not the best platform to use for such an expansive game. I just feel in the time it takes to download everything needed to enjoy the game, the juice is not worth the squeeze.

While u want to watch the story the other players which are many levels above u rush it and u wont fight for a whole hour (its realy around a whole hour) and the end gets completly destroyed. ty square enix for the worst quest of the game.

There is very little that can be considered ground breaking in ARR, but at this point that's not what many MMO players are looking for. The class system is the standard melee/ranged dps, tank, and healer broken up in various ways. The dungeons contain trash, bosses, and loot. There are quests that require you to find bears, remove their asses, and turn them in. There is a crafting system in which you can make armor, potions, and other goodies. In short, this is your standard MMO of the kind that was first codified by Everquest and made popular to the masses by World of Warcraft.

So why play this game? In short, because all of the standard elements are polished to a mirror shine. One character can be any and all of the classes, and in fact can borrow select abilities to use from other classes you have leveled up, so it behooves you to master at least two or three. The classes are nearly perfectly balanced in their roles, providing you with a reason for choosing any of them in their given role. As an example, I prefer to tank with a paladin, but that is a matter more of preference for their visual aesthetics than a real gameplay advantage over warriors, the other current tanking class. This is a nice change from having to start an entirely new character just to try out new mechanics or abilities of a class, though lovers of alts will still have plenty of reasons to roll a new character.

The quests have a good mix of humor, interesting game play elements, and standard kill x or fedex. The best part are the engaging storylines, which is more or less on par with a single player JRPG story. It's not exactly the best story ever, but the push and pull of imperialism vs city states, individual freedom vs tyranny, science vs magic is engaging enough to push you towards finishing the next quest.

The dungeon system is one of my personal favorite parts of MMOs, and ARR does dungeons better than most, possibly even better than any others currently. A dungeon finder tool is available from early on, and even the first fights you face are not tank and spanks. Bosses position is very important, whether from environmental hazards or because you need to activate traps, or because of adds that need to be kited, killed or maneuvered. I can't speak to healer or DPS experiences, but as a tank I was never bored. I also wasn't punished for being new; early fights teach you about different mechanics and how to deal with them in a helpful and organic manner. I didn't really feel like my hand was being held, nor did I feel like I needed to watch a guide video twice before even trying new dungeons.

The crafting system is again, polished. You can pick up any profession, though there are certain limits on which you can master. Crafted products are useful and if you are a serious raider certain consumables will be needed as always, and useful to everyone else. Crafted armor is decent, but I found that it wasn't profitable to spend a great deal of time keeping my armor updated as I leveled until I branched out into other classes and wasn't picking up gear from my main quest.

The graphics and UI are pleasing and easy to use and understand. Abilities have satisfying animations and rotations are easy to understand though hard to master. Sound is pleasant and at times memorable, though most of it is only passable. The voice actors are usually good, though what is actually voice acted is sporadic at best. There is plenty of content and while most of it is the usual filler there is enough fun stuff that it's cathartic for those who love the standard MMO setup.

To sum up, this is a good, solid game. If you are looking for a new MMO to try that doesn't come with the baggage of a dozen expansions and years of development, this is a good pick. It probably won't convert you to the genre if you already don't like it, and it won't break your addiction to *insert game/drug of choice here* if you are already dedicated to one. This is simply a well done, high quality product that we have seen before and already know if we will like. For many, that's more than enough.

It took me a few days, but after playing with the PSN 14-day Free Trial I found myself buying a copy of the game for both the PC and PS4. This is not a game you just pick up and evaluate within the first hour.

REBOOT: Make no mistake, the original Final Fantasy XIV was an awful game. The developers recognized the mistake and literally killed it. A Realm Reborn isn't just a flashy subtitle.

CONTROLS: Done surprisingly well for a console MMO. They do take some time getting used to, and developing the muscle memory for your L2/R2+Button combinations. Even using Remote Play and being extremely lazy (playing from my bed) felt alright enough to play. I'm told there are people who do end-game instances on the console, but I would definitely recommend using a keyboard and mouse for that. The controller controls work just fine.

GAMEPLAY: Standard MMO gameplay. There are a few different ways to level classes, depending on how much grinding you want to do. The best feature is that you can switch classes as easily as switching weapons. One character can level any class or job, defeating the need for alts unless you want to raid multiple times a week.

LIFE: The game is doing well, several servers are locked almost 23 hours a day because of the number of people playing, and there is the first expansion pack coming this summer. There are some cash shop options, but the game relies on subscription costs. Thankfully, the game is not overly plagued by a microtransaction store or F2P-esque elements.

** (2) the market is as rudimentary as you can get, supporting only global sell orders with instant delivery. You can make money gathering/crafting/trading, but forget about any economic sophistication: being a merchant isn't a first-class role.

THE MOST CHALLENGING thing about this game is the sheer number of game mechanics and things to do and learn. However the game is pretty good at helping you keep track.

There are a number of things that hold this otherwise fantastic MMO back from being what it should be. What this game shows is that there's a lot of untapped potential that can only be fully witnessed if one is willing to jump into the excellent expansion for this game.
With a myriad of truly unforgivable bugs at launch (which I did not have the misfortune of experiencing but have heard legends of) and a sloppy presentation in the story, there's too many missteps to ignore. Knowing all of these things, is this a bad game? The answer is a resounding no. The graphics are gorgeous for an MMO and the areas keep you wide eyed and give you that sense of awe which is so appropriate to games like this. The gameplay is standard fair for an MMO which is no small feat but does nothing to differentiate itself too much from the pack.
There's always something to do here and it's easy to lose yourself in this world, which is what MMOs do best. But the biggest flaw in this experience as it currently stands is in the story presentation and the voice acting. You will often find yourself doing menial, uninteresting tasks just to get to the next bit of interesting content or to the next story point. While this is not unheard of in MMOs it does stick out since the story itself, until the end at least, is not particularly compelling. This lack of depth can be attributed to some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard in a video game.
There are so many moments where I got invested into the story only to find myself laughing uncontrollably to the horribly bad acting in some of the most important story moments. These moments ripped me clean out of the world, broke my immersion and reminded me that I'm playing a video game. This is not why somebody plays an MMO. MMOs are designed to get lost in and when the game takes you right out of the world it's a fairly big disappointment. Now that the expansion has come out, people in the community laugh and look upon these earlier, cringy moments with endeared affection. But if one were to experience this game without the expansion or anything to look forward to after ARR, then the flaws could leave one feeling a little disappointed.
If you do happen to pick up this MMO, power through the base game to get to the expansion and enjoy the game for what it gets right. The atmosphere, the mechanics and the positive community that it puts a lot of effort into maintaining. Underneath it all, FFXIV is an amazing game that I've put, literally, thousands of hours into and wont stop soon as the new expansion looms on the horizon just a few months away. Just be prepared to skip a lot of dialogue and cut-scenes as you go through the story missions. Trust me, you will be eventually if you play this long enough.
But if you want to get lost in a beautifully rendered world based on Final Fantasy, then this is the MMO for you, flaws and all.

The choice is yours on how to fill your time as the game offers several options, of course, the high point would be your main mission which has a story that gets better and better until its epic ending so and you like a badass story will have a lot to do. In addition, we have several Craft options that just as the classes do not limit you to a number, being possible to have them all, so you can participate in all stages of building your equipment or decorate your house and undertake in the game market, we even have dungeons with very varied mechanics that can be done in groups of 4 people to larger groups of 24 or 48, yielding very cool mounts and minions.

As you can see no how to summarize FF XIV shortly after all the game offers you countless possibilities so if you are a fan of final fantasy or you won't find a way to have fun in the game, then enjoy the free trial and invest some time to spend a little slow start that will be worth it.

Is kind of hard to rate an MMO because my experience can be significantly different from everyone so I'm going to focus more in the "Single player aspect" and not the social aspect.

As you may expect, ARR is a massive game with a ton of quests and jobs to do, the first hours may be overwhelming with all the menus and options and skills, etc, but once you get the gist of it its more or less easy, the control scheme its very good or at least to me felt nice, so instead of buying a keyboard and mouse for my ps4, I stuck with the controller.

So let's do the bad first, the main story its at times and mostly in the first and mid half really slow, its no surprise tho' because Square needs you to take things slowly and take you at least 2 months of subscription but it can be very punishing, the thing goes more or less like this: you accept a quest in some town, you need to take care of some enemies or search for something or someone in another town, then you go to another specified point and then you go back to the requester, this procedure is going to be your best friend for at least the next 30 hours so you better like it or accept it, the main cast is serviceable at first but it develops nicely by the end (more of that later), the dungeons have interesting mechanics but are easy and slow to take, so sometimes it can be boring to do grinding. Speaking of gameplay, there is a lot of positioning and role mechanics that are very fun and interesting, also if you already have friends in XIV or want to invite new ones, the dungeon system has a syncing mechanic, so everyone can join the fight and be rewarded, so that's a good feat, obviously the thing is more fun if you have friends, but if you're a lone wolf like me you can also have some fun, because you don't need to know or speak to any other player in order to advance, it can be played as a single player.

For the main quest, the boss battles are interesting and sometimes kind of challenging but never too much, so you need to wait a little to get the good of ARR, which takes to Pros of this game, the music is really good and different from one another, some boss battles are your epic fantasy stuff and others are more like rock or electronic, and everything works very well.

The story goes to good with the first ending to really really good in the endgame ARR patch, which I won't spoil but serves as founding ground for the next (or after?) expansion, that ending was like a solid punch to the gut. As for the endgame, is when things get really good, you unlock new and totally cool gear, raids and hard and extreme boss battles of the bosses, the extreme battles were the ones I enjoyed the most, you need to be in full sync to your party to get things done, like a synced dance where if one **** it up, there is a big chance that you'll be killed, it maintain the stakes in the sky and gives you goosebumps when you fnally make it.

It's kind of hard to sell this game to anyone since you need to invest a lot of time and money, but I think if you look for a good FF challenging experience, please look no further, this game contains one of my favorite fights and characters of the entire franchise, it can be that good.

This game is beautiful but is much more fun playing solo because of some toxicity within the community. As for gameplay, i just don't understand setting up a menu based rpg as a button-masher. The text-based story is compelling but for whatever reason the print is really tiny, and fighting with the absurdities of the menu will never end.

I'm convinced that this game is as good as a MMORPG can ever hope to get. Not to say it is the best MMORPG ever (which is arguable) but it is up there contending with World of Warcraft which is also a great game.

This is honestly the very best MMO on the market.
The community is sooooooo friendly and welcoming! This game respects your time, you barely miss out on anything when you take a break. It's so worth to get into!
This is also the most expansive, feature complete free trial that you can soon play until level 70 and it includes two critically acclaimed expansions with all content for

Game is fun, but the customer support is terrible. Had a gamebreaking bug that could be fixed by a GM, instead the "development team" had to look over it before giving me a sub lvl30 quest item that hindered me from advancing. Going to lose at least a week of gametime for no reason, all because of the bureaucratic mess that is SE customer support.

I'm going to start this off by saying that when I first decided to try this game, I didn't think I was going to like it. I'm not a fan of subscription models, and I had yet to ever enjoy a single MMO before playing it. I could not have been more surprised.

It's true that ARR has a slow start to it, but they had to make enough quests to fill it all the way up to level 50. Don't listen to

Everything about A Realm Reborn feels dated: graphics, animations, content, story, and so on. The music is still on par and iconic with all the other Final Fantasy games.

I've never liked MMOs... but this one has it all. It's cheap when you account for the fact that you get the first 250 hours (or more if you do side quests) for FREE. You get to decide if you love the game enough to pay after you complete Heavensword. I've actually saved money playing this game since I buy many fewer games. Then, the graphics are great. Final Fantasy XIV is a must play for all fans of MMORPGs. Especially, because it´s very beginner friendly and takes every new player by the hand. A very important point for casual players, because you can jump in and play some rounds. Graphics, gameplay and story are just on point. I can´t wait to play all the DLCs!

Лучшее ММО на все времена. В ней буквально прекрасно всё. А в довесок к самому контенту есть кроссплей с консолями.

Great game with loads of activities that will keep you busy for hours on end. I would recommend taking your time on the main story because it is well written and plenty entertaining. i would recommend using a keyboard to when playing for better typing than the on screen typing. I personally play with a PS4 Control and Keyboard.

FF online isn't just a game it's a community full of great players who are all fun to engage with. It's great that the devs destroyed the previous attempt at FF online and then tied it into the lore behind a realm reborn. It works really well and it's now become a mark of history. It shows that we can all make mistakes but its how we bounce back that matters. I do think it's strange how they didn't just call it Final Fantasy Online. Why the Xiv? I think level balancing for zones are annoying. Why doesn't it have a count down before restoring your level. I sometimes walk out of the zone and it stops me attacking till I select the option to sync again. The trial and game should be tied together. You pay for the game and a subscription? It's wrong to charge for a product you cannot use unless you pay monthly. Even if you have played the trial to level 60 you would still need to buy the game and subscribe to continue. Just make the game the trial. And offer the subscription when you complete the trial. I got the complete addition for half price which gave me all expansions and 30 days subscription which is a good deal. But if I had to buy a game and subscription and the expansions I probably wouldn't have continued past the trial. It just feels like so many different things to buy for 1 product. Speaking of trial I think this is a great move. Offering players an option to try the game shows they know this is a great product. Any company who is willing to give you something 1st before taking your money shows faith in a good product that they know you will wanna purchase when you try it. It's rare to see companies happy to do this because so many games get boring after the 1st couple hours. FF Online actually gets better the longer you hang around. You are constantly learning something new. Expand

Huge amount of hard content for those who love punishing themselves and truly working well as a team. Huge story to chew through too.
If you love Final Fantasy and MMOs then I recommend giving this a try!

By adhering to the cookie-cutter conformity of MMO tropes, A Realm Reborn doesn’t attempt anything wholly new but shines in its familiarity.
