FIFA 15 takes the series into a whole other level with gameplay that betters the surmounting hype that threatened to engulf it.

In a series that is synonymous with incremental improvements, FIFA 15 manages to feel like more of an evolutionary leap.

FIFA 15's improvements don't jump out right away, but they rapidly manifest themselves in smarter teammates, livelier stadiums, and more tactical gameplay.

On the pitch this is soccer at its finest, even though the defense seems to be weakened. But off the pitch you get a patchwork of more or less untouched game modes, half-hearted emotions and inconsistent atmosphere that favors the English Premier League.

Is it overflowing with newness for anyone that’s already gorged the past year’s soccer bounty? Nope. But it’s still the very best soccer game in town.

A marvelous soccer game, and it's certainly better than FIFA 14, but the series' improvements felt even more marginal this year. The game captures the thrill of soccer unlike ever before, but the new, emotional player animations are only a small addition to what was already a great product.

FIFA 15 could’ve been brilliant. The presentation, different modes and gameplay are top notch, but the online gameplay often doesn’t function like it should. It’s strange to realise what we’re willing to accept just to play a football game, but the simple truth is that there is not a good alternative right now. The game is passable, but PES 2015 has a serious chance to win the cup this year.

I've played this game probably over 100 hours to date, and while it's a mixed bag, it still comes out on the better side of soccer games. For my review, I will mainly concentrate on gameplay and things that have a major impact on the user experience, because those are ultimately what determine the replay value of a sports game.

On that note, here's what I've found to be good in FIFA 15:
    - shooting is much improved and is more enjoyable than before. There's still a lot of shots (particularly volleys) that go off target, but on the whole you have better control over your shots than ever before. I've managed to score some absolutely stunning goals in FIFA 15.
    - Passing is also quite good, and the computer AI has been tightened up.
    - ball control is better than ever before, allowing you to pull of some nifty dribbles.

As for my gripes, there's plenty of those, many of which have been carried over from previous FIFA titles:
    - player switching on defense is still maddeningly random, causing you to pull players out of position because the AI assigns a relatively random defender for you when you tap L1. (PES is SO much better at this).
    - your computer controlled team mates still don't care about loose balls, at all. They'll just jog blissfully ignorantly in a random direction instead of dashing to the loose ball to create or prevent a scoring chance. Combine this with the faulty player switching and you've got an explanation for a couple of swear words in every game.
    - the computer controlled defenders play way too passively, no matter what setting you put it on (I've tried to put the AI on 100% pressure and 100% aggression, and it only makes a relatively minor difference.). This makes it frustrating for those of you who (like me) want to play high pressure defense and force quick turnovers a la Barca or Bayern Munich. Put another way, the defense is designed to play with a more patient and conservative approach, but come on, this is a video game!
    - the menus are still SO slow. I was sure this would be fixed on PS4, but nope, looks like that's just the way they've been coded. Bizarre and maddening.
    - while the gameday updates to squads are a great feature, most of us don't want to play without our star players even if they're injured or on international duty in real life. Forcing us to manually put all the top players back into the starting lineup takes 2-5 minutes of precious time before every game. Really, EA? You want us to fiddle with the lineups that much every freaking time?! Why not adopt a feature from PES that made the computer put all the best players on each position by a single touch of the button?

While I am waiting for these faults to be fixed in the future, I have to admit that although they are all quite maddening, they are all relatively minor and don't distract too much from an otherwise very solid football game.

For FIFA 16, I just wish EA don't just keep adding new features for the sake of marketing, but actually go back and fix the most glaring ones from previous versions.

Having said all that, if soccer is your game of choice, this is as good as it gets, and it's very good. Just don't buy it expecting perfection.

Only problem is the game speed is now stupid and unrealistic ...PS4 version is soo buggy its unplayable, only way to play the game is by signing out of PSN.... Its very much a case of one step forward and 99 bugs backwards... If you already have FIFA 14 keep it and skip this years poor buggy update, hopefully PES15 will turn the tables on EA's greedy early joke of a update at full price Expand

Without doubt the worst FIFA I have ever played....

Feels very scripted, can be massively frustrating and feels unrealistic. Far too often you feel completely at a loss to what is happening and feel that no matter what you do it is out of your control. You can create chance after chance after chance even with Messi/Ronaldo and its just miss after miss after miss regardless of your skill level or what you try. then in the 90th minute the keeper inexplicably cannot save a simple/weak shot.

I've pre-ordered FIFA every year since the switch from Pro Evo. I will be very cautious before I spend any money on FIFA 16.
