Fallen Legion Revenants is full of fun, engaging combat, an interesting premise, and entertaining dialogue. However, the poor pacing between combat and narrative creates a disconnect that makes the experience monotonous at several points. This is by no means an irredeemable title. However, it is definitely preferable for players who do not seek to experience a continually engaging narrative and just desire enjoyable strategic combat. When it comes down to it, Fallen Legion Revenants does nothing especially egregious. It just fails to live up to the potential its opening preambles and premise set.

Between its beautifully hand-drawn artwork, stellar voice acting, and unique battle system, it’s obvious to see that a lot of love went into making Fallen Legion Revenants, and that’s something that I like to see. While there are some unfortunate flaws that present themselves too readily for me to ignore, I still don’t think that that makes this a bad game. A niche game, yes, but not a bad one.

A bit messy and not deep enough, Revenants feels like a missed chance for Fallen Legion, but the plot and its characters are intriguing.

Fallen Legion Revenants isn’t without its issues, namely in how chaotic combat can be at times due to players having to keep track of multiple characters in real-time. Additionally, countering can be tricky because the game doesn’t really telegraph when enemies are about to strike. Still, the branching plot is fairly compelling to those interested in a dark fantasy with a touch of emotional pathos, making Fallen Legion Revenants worth a look for fans of old-school JRPGs.

Despite the introduction of new mechanics, considering the years that have passed since the release of the first two Fallen Legion, Remnants feels more like a step back than a step forward. The developers missed the opportunity to finally create a product with a strong visual identity, resting on a fairly bland style and a simple and repetitive gameplay.

A third chapter that sticks to its predecessor in every possible way. While Revenants does not lack interesting aspects, it also painfully shows its low budget nature. In particular, confusing combat and poorly delivered story are its most significant flaws.

Fallen Legion: Revenants is a mixture of successful and unsuccessful components and ideas, and the final package fails to impress; and aside from some good story moments and solid characters and dialogues, there is not much to praise.

I find it odd when a sequel in a series does little to set itself apart from its predecessors and Fallen Legion Revenants especially perplexes me with its monotonous combat and minimal gameplay elements. Great artwork, though, even if Rowena looks like Soma Cruz.

An adventure with a particular narrative mode and with different game mechanics from the crowd.

Frustration is bad enough, but pain? Unacceptable. [Issue#186, p.82]

Ultimately, Fallen Legion Revenants is one of the worst games I’ve played in some time.

NIS America did a great job witht he localization. Joe Zeiga and the other Voice actors did a marvelous job bringing the characters to life, the sound, the ambience, the gameplay, all of it is supurb. So far it is an easy trophy hunter game as well.
