The worst part is the lack of direction. I don't mean in a defined "story" or arc, I mean, original elite didn't have that, either.. but there's absolutely no direction in how to do what you need to do. The tutorial missions are sparse, contextual help is non-existant, and the fact that it's "open world" means your spit out into a space station and you gotta hit the Internet every 5 minutes to figure out how to use the various screens.
Also, it's hard to believe that landing is harder now than classic Elite. I was so excited when I slotted it through the space station on the first try only to be flabbergasted that I had to drop it onto a pad, a task even harder than original Elite's entering the space station. 4500 credits for a Docking Computer in Optional Internal. Trust me, newbies, you'll want that.
It's daunting. It might be fun, I'm not sure yet, but it's certainly not what classic Elite was, for better or for worse.… Expand
