Never heard of it. Watched some YouTube video's, and i gave it a try:

Men..this game is so addictive. The whole exploring stuff is stunning. Are u into sci fi, then this game is a must buy.

Reminder that this game has a steep learning curve.

The best, most realistic space simulation i have ever played. Absolute freedom, huge galaxy, big variety of missions, realistic challenge and not just a pewpew space shooter, pvp and pve multiplayer. This game has it all. So far i haven't encounter any bugs (the game is already out on pc and xbox a long time now so it would be weird if it had bugs) and it runs smoothly on ps4 and ps4 pro alike. Only negative thing is the online only solo game cause i would like to be able to play solo at least offline. This is the space game I've been waiting for all my life. No Man's Sky was great but it was a survival game is space not a simulation. I'll be playing this for years to come. Hopefully they won't ever put down the servers or at least make the solo offline sometime in the future. Space sim lovers have to play this and everybody else who don't afraid of a challenge you should try it. Top notch! Expand

A hardcore space simulation with a relatively steep learning curve.

You're free to pursue whatever profession you desire, trading, combat, smuggling, piracy. Where the game really stumbles is through the reputation system by which you unlock missions. It essentially forces you to grind reputation through repetitive tasks.

This could almost be completely ignored, if Elite's biggest flaw didn't exist. Player interaction is extremely minimal. Exciting and compelling encounters with real people is what this game desperately needs.

If you're a big fan of space sims, it's a no brainer. Sci Fi fans in general should check it out. But it's certainly a niche title with a couple really frustrating shortcomings. The potential for greatness is there, but unfortunately seems just out of grasp.

if you like space simulation this is the one, its better than no man's sky.
The atmosphere its very well done, it feels like you are there...in space, and as you know...in space no one can hear you scream ;)

its a nice game i have 10h of gameplay and iam loving it.
Buy the legendary edition because you can land in planets with that version.

1986 just returned with great graphics and sound. It's more complex than the original, and many casual players will get lost in the flimsy efforts to help you get comfortable.

But overcome this, and you'll taste why so many people find this game to be, well, Elite.

I'm sure this game has loads of content & potential however the learning curve on this beast is so steep it's practically vertical.

The tutorial missions offer a basic overview of controls, however there are no real pointers when you get into the actual game. This game could have done with a few tutorial contracts to help new players on there way. I have seen many people state

I have seen many people state that it's best to watch Youtube guides on how to play the game but they are all at least 40 minutes to an hour long and often in several parts!

I want to learn how to play the game whilst i'm actually playing it, not close the game down & stare at youtube for several hours before I even remotely know what to do.

A lot of players have commended this game on not holding your hand but I don't think the answer is to let go of your hand, run away and turn off the light switch!

    ++(UPDATE)++

After finally figuring out how to play this game I must say I am impressed with the immersion and scale of the universe so I have decided to change my score from a 5 to a 8.
A large jump I know but despite the frustrating opening hours I have grown to enjoy the game.

I still maintain however that it needs to be more accessible to new players by guiding you through the first few confusing hours of what to actually do.
In short Iv'e decided this game is worth it but you will have to sit through some boring long winded tutorial videos before you even think about sitting in that cockpit.

Not that it makes much diffeence for me. Because if I can start the game it still crashes after 10 seconds beacuse of the bugs in my solo game campaign. So Frontier had a year to come up with a PS4 version and than delivers a game that crashes continuously and endlessly. Biggest dissapointment in my gaming life. Total failure from this gaming company. Expand

This isn't my 1984 version anymore.

It's not even comparable to Oolite which was "modernized." The worst part is the lack of direction. I don't mean in a defined "story" or arc, I mean, original elite didn't have that, either.. but there's absolutely no direction in how to do what you need to do. The tutorial missions are sparse, contextual help is non-existant, and the fact that it's "open world" means your spit out into a space station and you gotta hit the Internet every 5 minutes to figure out how to use the various screens.

Also, it's hard to believe that landing is harder now than classic Elite. I was so excited when I slotted it through the space station on the first try only to be flabbergasted that I had to drop it onto a pad, a task even harder than original Elite's entering the space station. 4500 credits for a Docking Computer in Optional Internal. Trust me, newbies, you'll want that.

It's daunting. It might be fun, I'm not sure yet, but it's certainly not what classic Elite was, for better or for worse.

Do not buy this came in it's current state. It is broken and unplayable. Disconnects happen so often, you will spend as much time being booted out to the main menu than you will in the actual game.

This is a huge shame, as it looks and feels fantastic. However, it is not worth a penny until they fix it.

As mentioned just about everywhere else in the universe, the learning curve is very steep and not enough controller buttons to bind to every function. Definitely not a strap in and shoot game, but a simulation.

Everything is great except for the oh-so-often server disconnects. Even playing solo (not really offline) you get disconnected in the middle of something important. That is half the time. The other half, it freezes for well over 10 seconds while you wait for it to catch up, even with nothing going on.

Maybe the issues will die down once the big sale is over, but maybe it will get worse with this big event they have in the next week. We will see.

well this was my Initial response but after playing a week I'm totally sucked into the game, what I first thought was boring and frustrating now is relaxing and fun, the chills you get from the game can not be described early on you definitely need to spend some time with it..

It's an above average space simulation with quite a bit to do: exploring, pve and pvp dogfights, trading commodities, and your actions have an impact on the overall universe. The Horizons DLC adds another layer to the game with planet exploration and passenger missions.

That being said, it's not for everyone. It's lacking a bit on the planet exploration (can only land on planets with no atmosphere) and it's a simulation to a fault. Long travel times, boring systems (systems with just stars appears too often imo), and the lack of interaction with NPCs will turn off some people.

There is quite a bit of fun to be had here. It's just not for everyone.
