Being a fighting game fan of the 90s, I've always wished for a game that was ACTUAL martial arts as opposed to projectiles and juggling based fighters. UFC 4 is my first venture into the game's franchise and there's no health bars, only bars that show how much pain is being dealt to your individual body parts and even *THOSE* UI bars are so small enough that sometimes you don't pay attention to them.

And you really don't need to because the amount of animations in this game is staggering to me. You get punched directly in the face and when you block, your fighter shows the pain and sudden jolt reaction of taking that sudden hit as if he reacted like a real person. Get popped in the face several times, and that same block turns into an anxious and trembly defensive look in such a way that you KNOW to back away from your opponent without the need of a health bar... and that's the great thing about this game, is that you can FEEL the fighter you are playing, and learning the various styles of martial arts feels different through most of them. One fighters jab may be entirely different (hit power and feeling) based upon a fighter's height and reach. And the way any strike will land never instigates a 'canned' animation system to where you feel an animation 'activate' like in most games where you can see "Animation A" transitions to "Animation B".. It all just animates dynamically.

I don't know how this all works, but I hope the devs maintain this game as time goes forward, because I think it could make this franchise into a thing of beauty, especially going into the PS5. I'm hyped for what a UFC 5 would look like. I give this game a 10, because it's a breath of fresh air in the gaming industry, and we need more of this, .. it's nice to see something great in AAA that's not an FPS.

Giving it a 10 to round out the 0's. Its an 8/10 for me. The gameplay is great where it needs to be. GnP is kind of lame but this team also fixed UFC 3 which was horrible at launch. Career is better than UFC 3 and is actually fun to play. The 0's are unwarranted imo because its better than UFC 3 in all areas.

While I've never been much of a sports sim guy, as a relatively new devotee to all things mixed martial arts I decided I should probably at least TRY a UFC game at some point in my life. I must say I'm quite happy I did. It's clear that a lot of work went into capturing the feeling of what it must be like to be in a real MMA match. Fights require a lot of strategy as you have to manageWhile I've never been much of a sports sim guy, as a relatively new devotee to all things mixed martial arts I decided I should probably at least TRY a UFC game at some point in my life. I must say I'm quite happy I did. It's clear that a lot of work went into capturing the feeling of what it must be like to be in a real MMA match. Fights require a lot of strategy as you have to manage your stamina across multiple rounds while fending off attacks your opponents are directing at multiple levels of your body and trying to break through their defenses with some of your own. It can be a real game of chess and the only way you're going to get a more authentic experience is to step into an octagon yourself.

Most of my time was spent in the "Career Mode" where I created my own fighter and carved out a nice little legacy for myself in the sport's biggest promotion. Rising from an amateur scrub into a reigning, defending UFC champion proved to be a satisfying bit of fantasy wish fulfillment, especially since the time spent in-between fights in training camps leads to a believable sense of growth. As you complete sparring sessions not only do your techniques naturally become more effective as you drill them, but you're also be rewarded "Evolution Points" that can be used to upgrade various stats. It allows for a lot of flexibility in crafting your own fighting style. You can also use these camps to hype your next PPV and build friendships with or trash talk the competition to learn their special moves or establish rivalries respectively. Honestly, outside of the character customization being somewhat limited and awkward to use the only real complaint I have with this portion of the game is that it needed a more natural conclusion. After becoming a double champ and finally achieving G.O.A.T. status there's not much incentive to keep playing, and if you do decide to burn all the way through your characters longevity all your greeted with is an anti-climactic box of text that basically just says "yeah, you retired."

Multiplayer offers a healthy amount of modes and options to customize matches. My personal favorite being Knockout where wrestling and jui jitsu is eliminated, both players are given a health bar like in a traditional fighting game, and every round ends in a finish. Going online is also where you'll find the real test of your skills as things like the new grappling assist system that simplifies the controls are practically useless when faced with living, breathing competition. Plus, the huge roster of past and present UFC stars, each with their own stats and abilities that are constantly being adjusted through a live ranking/rating system being controlled by none other than legendary hall of famer Daniel Cormier himself means the balance is constantly shifting in meaningful, exciting ways.

The overall presentation of the game is kind of a mixed bag. As cool as it is to have the actual Bruce Buffer, DC, and Jon Anik lend their voices to the commentary and announcements helping sell the feeling of being in the UFC, the amount of repeated dialog means the novelty wears off pretty fast. Same goes for standing across from some of the most notable names in the sport as while the movement animations are flawless and lifelike, but the character models themselves are plastic and last gen. Particularly the crowds which are downright ugly and at times filled with too many of the same faces.

Repetitive sound and lackluster looks aside, I thoroughly enjoyed UFC 4. The gameplay captures all of MMA's complexity and nuance without ever sacrificing the fun, which is exactly what you want from a sports simulator. Plus, as someone who has often dreamed of becoming one of the best combat athletes of all time, this provided me with a means of achieving that chimera.

I'm not sure why this game gets all the hate?? This is by far the best UFC game to date, in my opinion. Moves are fluid and intuitive. It would get a 10 but it really is a boxing simulator. You can win just playing the stand up game. The learning curve comes with the wrestling and BJJ.

Slight improvement of UFC 3, everything is a little bit better. Maybe some people felt cheated paying full price for this game, and I can understand that. However it is in my opinion the best so far in this franchise and I have had a lot of fun playing it. So for me it did not feel like wasted money. If you like the franchise this is a solid buy.

EA Sports UFC 4 is a solid game. It is ever so slightly improved over UFC 2 & 3. The stand up feels more fluid now that the clinch is free flowing as part of stand up. Grappling still sucks. Not sure who thinks holding your stick left or right waiting for a meter to fill is engaging, but they are wrong.

Sound effects are okay. Graphics are still sub parts for a late 8th generation

Fighter selection is very good. Some glaring legend omissions are a bummer. Such as Randy Couture, Ken Shamrock, and Frank Mir.

Theu added ads, which is ridiculous. EA is still greedy as ever.

The clinching is supposed to be apart of your game plan but it’s hard to use it for anything but dealing damage, there’s only like 3 clinch positions and it’s easy to escape from cause all you gotta do is move backwards, you can’t do a clinch based strategy like fighters like Kamaru usman do to try and out point their opponents because it is so easy to get out of it and there’s not much variety in it, clinching feels better and worse than 3s cause 3s had the ability to use the clinch to control your opponent for long periods of time and sort of trap your opponent if you were good enough at defending transitions but the transitions look way to effortless in the clinch and on the ground but like I said 4 has really good animations so the 3 positions you can do in the game look beautiful..... unfortunately the grappling still has issues the transitions have prettier animations but they still look way too effortless and almost like your training on a dummy they should have made the transitions longer and more drawn out like a struggle because in reality that’s what grappling is, two guys fighting for control, one guy tries to go somewhere, the other tries to stop him from arriving, but grappling in the ufc games in general just doesn’t feel right, they did make some of the transitions longer and feel more like a struggle, but not all..... striking like I said is super smooth and feels really good, every time you land a good combination, it feels amazing because it looks amazing, the striking animations look a lot less robotic than they did in 3 and genuinely look like real punches and kicks, the story modes the main attraction of the game and is a huge step up from 3s repetitive and clunky story mode that really didn’t flow well at all, 4 introduces new ways to find yourself into the ufc, which is really nice for if you want to replay the story mode with a different fighter and have a different journey..... overall I’d have to give it a 8.5/10 not an incredible step up from ufc 3 but a step up nonetheless Expand

The basics were similar but the ground game control took a full career playthrough to grasp. The game's general layout, point system, and objectives also took time to orient.

Generally though, this is my favorite UFC game so far. There are some controls and features I miss from the old game but the sheer amount of new features and improvements they've made make for a lot more interesting of an experience. The biggest improvement is the fight week simulations leading up to your fights. The career mode lets you enjoy a more realistic approach to what athletes go through by simulating injuries, time in between fight offers, and promoting your fight through various activities. These additions really make for a fun and more thought-out approach to not just your fight but your athlete's career.

I've heard complaints about microtransactions and advertisements. Maybe these were issues at launch because as I play this in early 2023, I haven't seen any. There are options to purchase more in-game currency and cosmetics but I've never been ambushed by advertisements. I also have not experienced outrageous glitches. I've seen one or two here and there and a few frame-rate dips during some fighter cut scenes but from a technical level, I have no real complaints.

What I would have liked to see is more "work-out" training options in the career mode instead of just sparring sessions as well as a couple of extra positions for jiu-jitsu (no butterfly guard option so far). I also would've liked to see career integration with the kumite and backyard locations if possible. I realize some realism could've been lost but hey, it's a video game.

Overall though, it was a tough game to understand the mechanics at first but once I got a hang of it, I enjoyed it a lot and am excited to begin a new career on hard difficulty. I have no doubt other critics of the game faced compromising issues in the game's early life cycle. I also have no doubt that some players are incredibly biased against EA and unable to recognize all the fun the game can offer, especially now. Some players even admit to not even playing the game and wanting to downvote the game simply because EA is the publisher. These reviews shouldn't be acknowledged unless someone has actually given the game a fair shot.

If there are any new players considering it, I would say give it a chance. I found it on sale for $10 and it was well worth the money.

The reason why I was disapointed is the story line was as weak as it could be so after couple of voice lines and contracts only thing you doing was just to seem to keep fighting and fighting; while this is the main game this franchise still reeks of potential for me like the days of EAs once popular Boxing franchise. Because my expectations was beyond that I was hoping the game could be more than a game that you only fight against others. Well unfortunately UFC 4 is not much different although not ultimately bad either. It makes you create a fighter directly and you starting to career - not that different from the other games in the UFC franchise even the tattoos are similar to last years game, I mean the little details matter when you are entering into the 4th iteration of a potential on a global scale as there’s not any other worldwide sports venues that consistently have spawned in the fashion of UFC, even boxing as popular as it was in past years fans ultimately look for the next best thing in line with the events they enjoy. Although it's still fun to play but I can't say UFC 4 is amazingly so different than UFC 3 if you ask me to be completely honest and take the gloves off. The offline offerings include one-off fights in traditional MMA, Stand and Bang, and Knockout mode (with a new health-bar system that mirrors that of traditional fighting games), as well as custom events and tournaments. However, the destination for offline play is career mode. This year’s career starts off more cinematic, as you work closely with your head coach to learn how to fight, rack up some wins. I do enjoy an immersive experience and making the jump to the professional circuit and beyond always leaves a satisfied feeling for me. While I have to say this the KnockOut mode is nothing but purely Mortal Kombat styled
mode added and for a moment I thought Is this the future of the Franchise that rose up from the ashes as a worldwide success. It seemed more like a mini game they chose to throw in instead of polishing on the games overall polish and expanding beyond the offline career mode. Hey maybe take it to the next level and provide an environment that’s open globally for all to compete for world wide rankings and a true ranking of ones skill, ALA Toughest Fighter, I am truly excited for the next generation of gaming and I think UFC4 could have just been an example of what to expect at the end of a console generation a solid game that doesn’t really do anything wrong without breaking what has worked to date, next year we should really begin to see some of these franchises move in the direction of promising futures or possibly continue on the same path. At the end of the day if you’re a fan, heck yes it’s a must have. This game is far from a let down it’s just my desire to see the UFC franchise rise much as when I play WWE games, sometimes I wish I could plug in an N64 controller and play today’s games with the control and immersive experience these games delivered on a much less powerful platform with greater results. Only time will tell us the future so for now pick up a solid priced UFC4 and throw down just don’t expect a complete overhaul until we get our hands on UFC5.

    The Good..???:
Much like UFC 3, the striking is the same on a From a Aesthetic level, Tweaks to the Striking, such as Stamina Management and Little animations such as leg kicks have been made, Not much has changed honestly, but is still competitive and fun
Improved Knockouts! this was a Surprise to me i never thought they would do it but they did, this came in a later update a couple of months ago which was well needed (even though i think the UFC 2 knockouts are the best of the series)
Adding and updating fighters on a consistent enough basis
When your in your groove or in a tough fight, thats where the game shines the most, have a back and fourth was with someone, throwing intricate combos, slipping, countering is the best part of it and you'll get that

    The Bad:
Grappling as a whole is absolutely boring and cheesy, minor changes have been made to the god awful ground game that hasn't been changed for around 6 years, as of now, the rear naked chokes are broken and very hard to escape, AVOID GRAPPLING, PLAY STAND AND BANG IF YOU WANT THE FUN FROM THIS GAME
EA have Focused most of their time on making Cosmetic skins, banners, badges ECT instead of the actual gameplay, take of that what you will.
they removed the ultimate team mode that they killed in ufc 3
Career mode is very shallow and needs your imagination to get enjoyment out of it, still very repetitive like the old EA UFC'S, minor details have changed but not the ACTUAL GAMEPLAY, only things outside of gameplay, which make zero difference and are actually a DRAG to get through like the training and media promotion

At first during the beta of this game, i was impressed with how real the clinch looked, but now the clinch is the biggest draw back of this game by far, the clinch is a massive problem for this game, when you come up against a player who spams clinch they have tried to fix this, but it still persists as of me writing this and has made me avoid ranked mode all together, now on to ranked mode, you can only pick from 3 Weight classes an hour because nobody wants to play the heavier and lighter weight classes because of the repetitive gameplay lack of fighters in the lowest weight classes,

    Conclusion:
this will also still be hard for new players to pick up but Alot easier than it was in UFC 3, give it a go if you like UFC or Technical Fighting stuff, you'll have some fun and learn rewarding combos, get frustrated by cheese like clinch spamming and grappling but you'll find some enjoyment through a scrappy bloody fight, Technical Striking Mind games, beating a Cocky player or a crazy knockout you got :) (This is my Favourite of the EA UFC Games, Up there with UFC 2)

The punches and kicks have no little impact. The stanima system is a joke. Dont even get me started on the submission system. They should have taken another year for this game. Im glad people are finally taking a stand against the lootbox system in gaming. Ea gets a point for that at least. Its sad now days that they have to patch games post release as i as i am not a fan of this tactic by gaming standards. Especially unfinished fighting games. They should have reworked the gound and clinch system exactly like THQ undisputed 3 from 2012. The striking has little vairety for my tastes and The AI clinch spams. I could go on and on, but id save your money and wait for a sale people. P.s. THQ Nordic should buy the rights back and make ufc how it should have been all along. Expand

Otherwise, after you take the second belt, the strongest simple starts in your career, and nothing happens. You have to protect the belt from the same opponents, because there is almost no progress in the ranking. 2) allow the player to create tournaments on back yard and kumite. 3) Kumite mode is cool, but **** when you hit a person in the face with these gloves, the whole face should be covered in blood. Do more damage, the entire arena should be covered in blood in this mode. 4) the same with the back yard. Remove the gloves from the fighters, I myself fought in the street, we did not have any gloves on. Remove the gloves and add the blood. These modes will become popular and adored. Expand

Every time a UFC game comes out, I always play through most or all of a career mode run, which I believe takes 15+ hours if you play it to completion. However, you will notice the flaws throughout the duration of the game. Essentially this game is the skeleton of a UFC game, everything is there but everything is unpolished. The gameplay is fun but clunky, the controls are good enough but not well thought out, the career mode maintains your interest but feels soulless, the graphics are mediocre, the soundtrack is really bad, and the sound design is bland. With everything considered, I did play most of a career mode shortly after this game came out and had a decent time for close to 15 hours, and I am revisiting it for a second time and having a decent time. There are a lot of frustrating exploits and broken gameplay mechanics, but you learn to work around them when playing the AI. It’s not a great game, the necessary skeleton is there, but it’s a very lazy release. The first UFC Undisputed game on Xbox 360 was extremely innovative for the time, UFC Undisputed 2 added the complexity the first game was lacking, UFC Undisputed 3 completely refined the first two games into a perfect mix. That was the last time they tried to make a good game, the reboot that happened after produced some lazy quality games. If you’re a fan of MMA or really enjoy sports career modes, you can have some fun with this game despite its glaring flaws. Expand

As someone who knows little to nothing about UFC, this game seems like a carbon copy of the previous entry. It's just as empty as every other EA game and while the visuals and fighting do feel quite nice, the game modes are far too bare bones and there is very little to actually do.

You should have 100% customisability by now... your 4 games in and the CAF has not changed... no new body types or better just use a scaling option like the WWE games do. I should be able to create all the different fighters I want from history with scary accuracy and change their records to reflect their IRL records and be able to have fun not feel restricted by who you've hand picked as the 10% who will make it to your roster.. I should be able to pick from 10 different kinds of kicks and punches for each input to give it a great unique feeling and change them for my CAFs so fighters I create really look and fight the way their IRL counterparts do.. but your focusing so hard online play and pushing out what we even had in UFC 3 being able to change attributes and moves that I will not be buying any more UFC games unless you HEAVILY invest in CAF customisation and really make it open-ended create anyone you want like the WWE games

I AM A HUGE MMA fan I train, I grew up watching it from the age of 9 and it really pisses me off to no end to see EA UFC be this bad...

But everything else is either the same (graphics) or worse (controls, ground game, created fighter customization). Controls for UFC 3 were intuitive. Each face button controlled a different limb. So you knew exactly what you were doing when you modified a strike based on the button press. Now, it's needlessly jumbled up. Modifying a punch now throws a kick, and vice versa. What possible reason could there be for this? It's nonsensical and unintuitive. The worst change comes with the popular Create A Fighter feature, which has been so dumbed down that it's not fun or rewarding on any level. You can no longer control stats, perks, OR moves for created fighters. Given that CAFs are the primary way most players spend their time in these games, this is a huge mistake. Not being able to customize your moveset is an absurd limitation. It results in every single CAF being essentially identical. They've replaced this meaningful customization system with a generic template system. They seem to think that the newly ridiculous and cartoonish appearance options (stupid hats, anime hair, various clothing items) will make up for this. It doesn't come close. What made UFC 3 enjoyable was the deep levels of customization, being able to create characters with unique move sets, stats, and perks. Now this feature is useless, and the game with it. I no longer have any reason to play it, and deeply regret my purchase. Expand

Unfortunately UFC 4 seems to have taken a different approach from UFC 3 which was based on simulation and fun.

UFC 4 disrespects the sport and feels as if the budget was lower for the game than previous titles, perhaps the budget was lower due to poor sales.

The Dev team have some serious work ahead of them to fix this, gameplay mechanics and animations need the most work.

Create a fighter is easy to use and you can be as in depth or ridiculous as you want it to be. The fight now matches are typical ones you’d expect and have featured before. K.O mode is your typical fighter mode with each fighter having a health bar and going best out of three similar to your Tekken or MK games. The extra modes again just seem bland and like they are there to fill some space however I’m sure some people will find joy out of them.

Gameplay wise there are some improvements, however the ground game isn’t exactly tweaked as they may have advertised. There’s just simply been an assist option, whilst this makes it easier to transition on the ground by giving you three options, it also makes it a lot easier and more predictable for opponents to counter transitions. This is the area of the game that still needs work the most.

The submission system has improved once you figure out how to use it properly as the game doesn’t do the best job of explaining it to you.

The game in its current form does feature a game breaking bug, occasionally when loading into online fights, ranked, blitz etc, the character select background screen will basically takeover the screen and impede you from seeing the fight your taking part in. This became extremely frustrating as it extended to every mode of the game.

Overall it’s a fun experience that looks good and is enjoyable but still feels lacking in some areas of the game. Career mode has taken a step in the right direction and hopefully they can further improve on that in future instalments
If online is where you spend most of your time, you’ll be really disappointed. Best not to pick this one up until the purple screen bug is fixed for this one

A big supposed aim of the development team was to not alienate new players by imposing simpler controls, with these controls being literally just changing the names of transitions on the ground, which is optional anyway. The standup controls have been changed by using different inputs involving holding down certain buttons. This was not only a very unnecessary change, but it also means that whenever I try to throw a lead body hook, I can instead more often find myself going for a single power leg takedown, which will more than likely just be very easily denied. Additionally, the stand-up severely lacks the excitement you felt when trading strikes in the previous entries, with each strike seeming to have little impact, and leaving you underwhelmed. Furthermore, there is no drive to make you explore fighters to see which best fits your play style, with only the top 5 of the division ever being seen on online matches due to their higher stats.

The weakest of the gameplay mechanics has always been seen as the ground game, which personally I though was great, but still needed a few changes to keep it exciting, but this game has made it somehow worse to play, with the ground and pound being either overpowered or ineffective whatsoever. Additionally the new submission mini games feel the same, with them being more

Damn shame for the rest of us who just want a game made by people as passionate about MMA and the UFC as the people who will be playing it. Expand

Still, team EA sports still fail to grasp the most basic principle in any online fighting games: if a move/system is too easy to spam and be effective, then it's better to add a counter or punishment mechanic when they fail, or you gonna have a spam feast. 4 UFC games after and they still implement all these low IQ moves and keep spammed by every high rank guys online. that's why ranked matched is infested with piggy back spammer, clinching spammer, take down spammer because these moves don't take 2 brain cell to execute and nearly impossible to defend against, and you know what's the best part? they can all be spammed over and over even when you get out with hard effort.

That's why no body will take UFC 4 seriously for esport, and it still average 3.5-4/10 in user reviews 4 games in a row. This team is beyond hopeless, really hope EA can release the UFC license to 2K again

I have to say EA has scammed the people who bought this game including me. One of the coolest things in past UFC games you could create a fighter and making him/her unique not just with looks but with their stats and which places they are good in but here the only unique part is the looks and not only that the clothes are so stupid and immersion braking. Have you ever seen a ufc match with a guy wearing a lion head with Gucci pants and a glowing top ? No people who bought this game want immersion and to feel like this is the closest thing you can get to experiencing the ufc without actually being in the cage and it fails with the immersion. And not only that they removed stats so you don’t get to choose with moves with the freedom the other games have you, you choose a class and that means your fighter isn’t even unique because everyone has the option to change the style before the fight. The game is supper buggy and anyone who played the game for an hour can witness a humongous amount of bugs and glitches and if you don’t experience bugs you will for sure experience you getting smashed in by a clinch spamming 20 Devision fighter, the clinch is so broken, you can’t even block some shots when you try to leave it so not only you get punished for not ducking the clinch you also get punished for trying to not get clinched spammed. Plus there is no hud, so new players, good luck cause it’s gonna feel like you are taking an exams and not revising at all. Mindless changes is another thing like why change the take down buttons that mix with the body punches, the amount of times I went for a takedown and got countered with a submission is unbelievable, there is so many buttons that are the same for punches/ kicks which can make you throw the wrong move and boom you are on the canvas while your opponent is doing the renegade ( this is a joke but the emotes are absolutely pathetic, who asked for them?). No changes to the ground game is bad, I get that it might be hard to improve up on it but could of gave us new animations or more realistic transitions like in the clinch? Why the clinch and not ground game? Another thing is that some of the fighters don’t even look like what they actually should be, for example Kamaru usman, he looks kinda skinny and not buff, he’s probably the most buff guy in the welterweight devision right now and many other fighters have big heads. Career is an improvement but damn they are good at advertising, cause half of the features die out in the end of the career, you still gonna be fighting old fighters like wayyy old fighters or just random no names which I don’t know which is worse, you can’t call out fighters by yourself, they have to say something to you before or someone has to mention something about your opponent so then you can comment, that’s so lazy otherwise career is decent but maybe just a little too long to an extent but a big improvement on ufc 3’s. Adding irl ads into a game is just brain dead and that’s what they did instead of fixing the game because that is definitely what we want and they definitely want to immerse us with all the epic Gucci, and lion head clothing in the game... yeah no, they just want money and the ads were added for like a week and only they removed them when there was a lot of game articles about it and did the classic PR bull***. Stamina doesn’t drain fast enough and everyone has the toughest of thanos or something cause you can knock someone 8 times in the span of one round and they’ll probably survive and the scoring if things go to a decision is atrocious I’ve seen dozen of score cards that had a clear better performance and had nothing better then the other opponent but yet still won, like what you can just stun someone 12 times, throw 203 strikes, 2 body health events, 1 leg health event and 67 significant strikes and still loose. Overall this game can be better then UFC 3 but is it ? No definitely not, the game is £60 but should be £25-£30 tops, well that’s at least what I’m seeing from my experience and I’ve been playing since launch, I do think EA will make it into a good game, but in 2 or 3 years, so wait until it’s 60 or even 70% off otherwise you’re gonna waste your money like Me and thousands of other people that bought the game. ( the score would have been 4 but the fact they added ads into a game and did nothing about it when the community was saying so much until articles were published about it takes away 2 points, pathetic, there should be a feature where you pay half the price if the game is not finished but somehow ea would rig that as well). Cons: UFC 4 is a re-released, inferior version of UFC 3, which in turn is an inferior version of UFC 2. I paid $60+ for what is essentially an alpha version of a game. At this point, buying EA games is like staying in an abusive relationship. I should know better, but they took control of everything I enjoy (NFL, UFC, Soccer) so I'm stuck.

Starting off with, the career, it's definetely a big improvement from the last game. It's not as repetitive and you don't get bored after 5 mins of playing. The only bad thing is that the stuff at the start of the career, like messages from other fighters etc. become less frequent throughout the career, so when you're a champion for example, it's just about fighting and fighting the same guys again and again. Not to mention, it's really unrealistic since you can be a champ and fight like a guy no. 7 or you can be a contender no. 5, you beat the top contender, but you don't even move up in the rankings. The bad thing is the actual fighting... The BLOCKING SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY BROKEN, pretty much all you have to do is to spam a jab jab straight combo to break your opponents defense and then you can just kick him in the head to end the fight. If you're a fan of the sport like me, and you're used to more slow-paced fights. Then don't buy this ****
The core gameplay is more like mortal combat than it is an actual sport... The damage system is also pretty much mortal combat, your opponent can throw anything, you counter him with a perfect hook or an overhand, but it doesn't do anything to him.. cuz why not.
The stamina stuff is also another **** In UFC 3 for example, it was really realistic, so you couldn't throw strikes like a madman and your stamina would be gone quickly. In UFC 4 however... At least from my experience, you can kick, throw strikes, everything like in a anime fighting game, and your stamina would the same as your opponents for some reason... The ground game is really not a huge improvement also. All they added was that you can throw both hooks and straights on the ground, which makes it pain in the ass to defend against. The new submission system is also not bad, even tho I feel like it's too hard to submit someone even if they don't have any stamina left. Don't recommend it, if you really wanna buy it, then wait for a sale and get it for around 10-20 bucks. You better just watching the real sport instead.

The learning curve it's so steep here I've returned it after 2 days of getting my career mode character knocked out every time I try to start.
There doesn't seem to be a way to change the career mode difficulty (I've searched everywhere online) so you're destined to fail.

I tried Madden once (as a UK guy) and it was equally as confusing but I think If I had enough desire for the sport there is a way to learn Madden, this game however, I just can't see it.

There's always the argument that making a game easy will kill the game, and fine, I'll give you that... but this is unplayable... if you want new fans and players of the games then you need to have a path that feels rewarding... getting knocked out and not being able to knock the com out in career early on is not the way to do it.

Really bad game from a new player viewpoint.

In spite of sporadic issues with the controls and the monetization model, UFC 4 is a great fighter, even if one bases it solely on the expansive career mode. Long-time players will be disappointed at Joe Rogan’s absence from the commentary booth this time around, even if Daniel Cormier and John Anik’s excitable tones are perfectly serviceable.
