    I want to give my honest review. LONG time fan of Dynasty warriors.
    This is by far the WORST in the series, and I was really looking forward to it. Put in 40 hours.
    -First the frame rate problems are just unacceptable in 2018. I am talking below 15fps.... -Open world is generic making every mission feel the same. We lose the old each stage looks and feels different from past DW and SW.    I want to give my honest review. LONG time fan of Dynasty warriors.

    -Open world is generic making every mission feel the same. We lose the old each stage looks and feels different from past DW and SW.
    -The new combos are just as bad as renbu from 6. Just push square all day and once in a while R1 for a counter or charge....
    -The story is only good for a few characters, others are treated as generics with no unique interactions. Which is a staple for DW...
    -Hunting, seiges, fishing, grappling hook, ALL very gimmicky and get lame after one use.
    -NO more ultimate weapon missions.
    -Plays like a beta, sometimes officers vanish, other times floating.
    -SOOOO many clones
    -Did I mention the frame rate? GROSS
    UNPLAYABLE!

    Seizure inducing garbage. Game plays like a constantly buffering video. There's really no point going into the specifics. This is just bad, trust me please. Don't waste your time

    Even the biggest fans will eventually feel atleast slightly disapointed in a game that was made with probably with a low budget ( maby not ,but it feels like it),it's like a bad B movie

    Anyone giving this game higher than a 2 has clearly never played a DW game before. This game is very lazy with boring battles, poorly executed open world, no COOP, and bad voice acting. STAY AWAY

So the big selling point of this game its open world and for a company that is super lazy in the making their games this automatically had me worried and i can say these worries where well founded when i played it, koei has made a super bland open world with not much in it with an ok day and night cycle to add insult to injury the battles have been separated in to little fetch quests which have you running around this bland environment wondering why they could't implement full battles in these places instead, voice acting is awful and ok their is a big cast but most sound bad with maybe one or two sounding ok, the roster is impressive the deign of the characters look pretty good but unfortunately combat feels really bad and we have lost a lot of weapons i mean where is zhang he claws at? in summary an open world dynasty warriors sounds like a good idea if the right amount of time,effort and money where put into it unfortunately this isn't even close a bad tech demo stay away.… Expand

    unplayable mess of a game.it is boring,bland and the lip synch is way off.it legit feels like it tries too hard to be AC Origins which was also a snoozefest.

    Being a Dynasty Warriors fan since DW2 and playing 99% of all Musou games i can honestly say; this game is utter garbage.
    The gameplay is gone.
    One button combos for idiots. The open world is a joke. Every major town is copy paste. What good are new characters if they all play the same? The game runs like crap on a normal PS4.     The open world ruins the gameplay. There's too much empty space, and every character feels the same. Walls may as well not exist since every character has a grappling hook. There's also a hunting mechanic, but the animals just stand still and let you shoot them to death.

    This is the epitome of an open world game that has no reason to be open world.

    I have been a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series since DW3 and I was very excited and hopeful for this game. I am very disappointed with it. I appreciate the developers for taking the game to new places and adding a bunch of new features, but for every new feature, the game creates new issues.

    - There was no improvement in graphics from DW8, in fact the game looked worse at times - The    I have been a fan of the Dynasty Warriors series since DW3 and I was very excited and hopeful for this game. I am very disappointed with it. I appreciate the developers for taking the game to new places and adding a bunch of new features, but for every new feature, the game creates new issues.

    - The frame rate makes the movement look clunky
    - The open world system immediately adds hours of very repetitive, boring missions
    - Even with the fast travel system, it take a while to get anywhere and your horse runs into walls constantly with the auto-run feature
    - Every mission boils down to "go here, kill this guy, leave" with little variety
    - The english voice acting is terrible; they made my favorite character (Xiahou Dun) sound like a teenager
    - The combat system felt even more repetitive as I found myself using the R1 attacks over and over until the enemy dies. Also they took away charge attacks which were the game's bread and butter
    - Hunting and fishing aren't fun, although I am hopeful for future implementations of them
    - The crafting system is cool and interesting, but the game can be beaten easily without it so it makes this feature seem unavailing
    - The story telling took a new approach, which is fine, but it is very time consuming and the enthusiasm seemed very low to the point where I found myself skipping dialogue after just an hiour of playing

    Overall, the game took a giant leap, but in the process created many new problems and ultimately removed what made the series fun in the first place. I hope that DW10 addresses some of these issues, but for now I would not recommend playing this game.    … Expand

    They changed the whole combat system and it sucks...it sucks hard. Its more "mash Square" then it has ever been and it seems like its trying to be 4 or 5 different games in one. Batman's context counters, Far Cry's gathering/crafting sprinkled with some Just Cause grappling hook nonsense and DMC's main combat system. I want DW8's combat back. it was fluid. It was clean. It was 5000% better then this.

    Combat system aside... The graphics and performance is sub par. So much so that this game reminds me of PS2 days(PS3 for the character models). Drastic frame rate drops, textures not loading/loading so slow you see the seams, and the miserable voice acting. It has never been this bad. I walked up to a castle with flags on the roof...They were not moving. Just static at full wave like it was constantly windy but they didn't move. The animations on characters, clothing and, hell, even the combat is bad. Its stiff. There is no polish in this game. Its like they shipped the alpha version of the game. And lets not forget the terrible animal textures.

    I am a long time Dynasty Warriors fan...And I'm telling you to not get this game. Avoid it until its either fixed(That's going to require a massive overhaul) or its so cheap you can get it for a song. I'm trading this in for a game i know isn't going to be busted.

    Just tried it again with the patch they threw out. 1.03 i think it is...it helps the frame rate issues...but they are still terrible. Even small battles turn into running in mud slow.

    Aperently those with PS4 Pros are having fewer issues in regards to frame rate.

    I am still returning this game.

    P.S to the "critic" who game this game a 100 rating... How much were you paid to write that?    … Expand

According to the broken physics, the charecters' motions are lifeless and look unnatural when each part of their body or cloth moves. Second of all, the game play is quite boring. Just mashing buttons again and again. How you play the game in your first 30 mins will be the same as when you spend the next 20-30 hours. It is really repetitive because you have to do the same thing again and again, so you just mash the buttons over and over for hours. There is no variety of missions since you just go kick some bosses' asses to make a progress in the story, even the side missons are not that different from the main ones. So, that's why the core gameplay is repetitive. Next, the collectibles including crafting systems are not attractive enough to go and collect them. Third of all, the presentation is weak because the cutscenes are dull, lifeless and ugly. They are not fun to watch. Moreover, the dialogue scenes are so borinh that I don't care to watch even though I love reading the Three Kingdoms novels. As a result, with low-end graphic, cheap production value, broken physics, repititive gameplay, and uninspired story presenation, the game is not worth your time and money, and it is listed as one of the most disappointing game of 2018.… Expand

    Why bother even having walls and doors anymore when you can just scale over them like Spiderman?! To incorporate this open world you've had to break vital gameplay features crucial to the series. Spending seconds or even minutes moving to another destination in the previous days could have been considered a tedium at best when trying to get back into the action, but now you've made it a core feature. Travelling to other locations and having to pause and look at your map every 10 seconds is NOT FUN.

    Granted, the idea of a huge battlefield and being able to traverse a vast world is a great idea in theory. However, having to encorporate this "open world", you've had to fill it with boring travel distances and empty wastelands of nothing. A feature which you then decide YOURSELVES is a bad idea by giving us a teleporting quick travel feature FFS. Even YOU don't want us to see your boring open world.

    Who cares about online coop or even offline coop right? It's 2018, a staple feature in the series has been split screen coop way back since the PS2. Gone you say? Thank god for that, it might have been fun to share this barren landscape with somebody else but at least I don't have to let my friends suffer as well. I have to stab myself in the face with horses that like to bash straight into trees all day long.

    Not only is this a buggy mess, with characters and animals spawning in walls and not even responding to attacks when you snipe them from far away, you thought it better to sap out even more fun by making all the characters feel and play the same and removing ALL of the creative weapons you'd implemeneted for them over the years.

    Why not just go the whole hog and make every single character have the EXACT same weapon and the SAME move set. You're practically there with that already, may as well go the whole hog and Musou attack your entire history of game design documents for this game.

    I'm only pleased that you made so many sequels and spinoffs to good Warriors games in the past, that I have still yet to buy. Now I can go back and play those instead, whilst trying to ignore reality and pretend that this absolute travesty ever existed.

    I'm not even sure if I want to trade this game in anymore as doing so will mean I will be intentionally harming another human being. Let's throw Dynasty Warriors 9 in a land fill along side E.T.

    I was a bit looking forward to this game but I had my doubts. Lots of it, and unfortunately my doubts became real. The game was meant to refresh the series from stagnant mechanics and this one struck the series across its legs and cause the entire series to collapse. I don't think this the series will survive this latest installment.

    Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition came out on PS4 came out 4 YEARS AGO, and it is a much better game, a true dynasty warriors experience plus packed with content.

    Do not get this game until they patch it up because performance is terrible. For 60$, you can get many better games than this. This game is going to be on sale for cheap very soon or if you are itching for    Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends Complete Edition came out on PS4 came out 4 YEARS AGO, and it is a much better game, a true dynasty warriors experience plus packed with content.

I've played every single Dynasty Warriors game including the Extreme Legends and Empires spin offs and this is the only game series I've played that seems to get worse and worse.     -Cons Just about everything. Graphics, Disappointing combo system, Grapple Hook that literally lets you skip EVERYTHING. The whole weapon system is just bad insane drawn out running from A,B to C back to A. Every single area feels the same and very washed down and lazy.

    -Pros Character Design I love they are pushing new characters but this game was poorly done.

    I expected a lot from this but is so pathetic that they thought this game was what we wanted... This is the first game I will not buy Empires or Xtreme Legends.

    The open would is an interesting take on the Dynasty Warriors games, but it doesn't excuse the lack of content and the boring world to explore. Just stick to Dynasty Warriors 8.

Finally and worst of all they took away most peoples weapons so now there are only 4 weapon types and they sold the weapons they had in Dynasty Warriors 9 as DLC.     Those "professional" reviewers don't know donkey bollocks, praising the realism.. cause that's whats always been important in a real DW game. The dub is terrible, didn't use any of the good actors, the weapons are dull as is the combat, the half baked far cry wannabe mechanics are poorly done with animals just standing like spawned gmod npcs. The death of an otherwise great series.

It forced me to waste several hours in the action tutorial just to tell me that I had to do it again. Now I didn't just immediately waste a ton of time. The other issue that I have personally found is that the generals don't render in, my character is batting off enemies while waiting for the general to pop in and then as the said general is the only thing worth fighting.

    The game feels completely empty, they should have named the game Chinese horse riding simulator with occasional gathering and fighting. Now fighting itself is dead as a doornail in this entry to the series. Mash 1 button with occasional Musou attack and that's it, while they have reintroduced archery most arrows will bounce off their targets and mainly serves to shoot wild animals for materials. Fishing is also a sad joke, mash 1 button and tada fish. The hideaway mechanic seemed like a good idea at first but mostly it serve's to remind you how empty the game is, and inviting officers over to bond revolves of them asking "Feed Me" and if you remembered to buy a stove, you are now playing how to make a cat like you simulator.

    My final note, this game has so much potential but as it stands right now id suggest holding off until they add more to the game, I hope if they continue making Extreme legends and Empires.     full of audio bugs and glitches. Not a real open world experience, far too many fmv sequences linked together to skip. And the attack list are complete and utter crap.

    The open world, ok, good idea but it doesn't work for me. Especially because of the teleport which kind of break the immersion. Or the grapple to climb walls making attacking a place... Easy to say the least. It's an empty world with very few people to fight overall.
    The combat system.. OMG what a shame ! They're was a perfectly working system in all previous games, they turned it into a "press square to win". No strategy whatsoever as your character will automatically attack whoever he wants, sometimes having to turn around or dash a little to attack an enemy when you wanted to hit the one in front of you. You can lock an enemy to attack him and that's it. Then press square! There are a few counters, then a finisher. Interesting idea but makes it even easier.
    The mission system could be interesting, but the gameplay just ruins it. Attacking a castle is only climbing the walls using the grapple, and killing the officers inside. Quite blank here.
    The craft system is just here to give you a weapon then forget about it.
    Much fewer weapons than previous games. Much fewer items also.
    Bonding with officers has absolutely no interest not rewards.
    Tons of loadings.
    Some enemies don't appear. I thought those issues were over but no, they're back!
    The horse can automatically run to the destination but good luck with the most broken path finding ever. You either end up running around or blocked somewhere.
    Everything seems broken or unfinished.

But, they not only removed the fan favorite weapons, they also sold them back to us as DLC. It's ridiculous and scummy of them. Especially when the weapons unlocked now have a limited moveset thanks to the weapon no longer being the character's main weapon any more.

    The story mode is lazy and boring. Any amount of interesting cutscenes you'd see in the other games is completely removed and instead just shows a character that walks on screen, says something, and another character moves. Rinse and repeat. There are a handful of interesting cutscenes, but they are few and far between.

    The only good thing I can say about this game is that it looks real nice, for a Dynasty Warriors game. It looks pretty average compared to many other big name games. In fact, I kinda prefer the look of the older games. Yeah, they look dated but they have a fun style.

    I'd stay away from this one. If you want a better Dynasty Warriors experience, go with 8 Xtreme Legends or 8 Empires.    … Expand

    The combat by it self makes wanna break my console, please just bring back the old DW 4 combat when it really feels like you are a warrior by fighting strong armies, with DW9 it feels like fighting papers! I have never seen a game that makes the armies 3ft tall this is stupid!!! The playable Characters are NOT giants!!!! Adjust the heights!! Like how they were in DW2-DW3-DW4.
    I have gave only 1 point for the open world not going to deny it interesting to explore but you guys can make it more alive with moree Mysteries to explore! Please please please I don’t want to play Zhang Fei with Lubu’s weapon just make us stick with one character’s weapon i don’t know who told you it's a good idea to change the weapons!! No they are not at all it just makes the game boring and makes me play any character with one weapon.. then just get rid off all of the characters and let me edit my characters and choose any weapon i want, yes that what i meant it felt like i always play with one character with a different SKIN!!! I really really hope you guys listen this time

    -each character has his/her own weapon (unchangeable)
    -Army Sizes -better AI like how they used to be in DW2-3-4

The worst part is changing the fast paced and cool moves of the characters for a plain and slow fighting style and worse, change from a fun combo to a boring gameplay. Other thing is that someone took all the characters soul sfrom them and now they look like they dont feel much from what happens. When guan yu died in 7 and 8 i felt really sad, here i thought ok. I really hope empires fix some of that since i love this franchise a lot.… Expand

    Do yourself a favor, take note of which critics gave this game great reviews and ignore their opinions on anything ever again. There's just so so so much wrong with this "game" it's like a ps1 game that somehow just got released. Go watch Jim sterling tear this game apart and even THAT doesn't cover everything. I got this game on psn for 2 bucks and it's still a huge ripoff

    I had a lot of issues with this game. This is the least enjoyable Dynasty Warriors game I’ve ever played by far.

    * Very empty open world, spending a lot of time traveling from point A to B with nothing of interest in between points. There is fast travel however, it usually only takes you about half way there, still leaving you with a solid 30 secs to a minute of bland and boring horseback    I had a lot of issues with this game. This is the least enjoyable Dynasty Warriors game I’ve ever played by far.

    * Help menus that are supposed to pop up as new mechanics are introduced however, they don’t pop up to explain when you’re ready. By that, you’re still completely unable to fish/tame animals etc when they pop up as they pop up when you first see a wolf or when you receive a fishing ingredient randomly (you still don’t have all that’s needed to do the thing they’re teaching you about) leaving you annoyed as you have to stop what you’re doing to read the thing and then spend the effort to try and remember the details (then inevitably forget)

    * Second fight in campaign mode left me frustrated. Dozen archer towers w archers that all aim at your character (nobody else) with perfect aim that take out 20% of your health. No arrow incoming indicator. You can shoot arrows at them however you’re vulnerable to the men on the ground who will be attacking you, you’re also outranged by them by a significant margin.

    * You also start the game off only being able to play as Cao Cao (totally fine) however you almost immediately unlock about 20 characters that ALL RECEIVE the same 10 second guitar-shredding intro back to back to back. It was honestly actually funny. It was *this* close to being a plus.

    * This story is yet again the exact same thing as every other DW game for some reason? Starts off with the rise of the yellow turban rebellion?

    * It took me **2 and a half hours** to finish all the objectives in the first mission? Idk if you’re not supposed to play it like that. Maybe you’re only supposed to do *some* of them, game didn’t say any of them were optional or more secondary than others, so I went ahead and did that. The game organizes the missions by having the “beat the head general” objective at the top and then every other objective is listed underneath without too much guidance as to which one(s) are more helpful to defeating the whole battle. Mind you I’ve put in a TON of hours into precious DW games and I know how to navigate battles. While you used to just be able to look at the map and sort of create a path to victory as in previous DW games, this map is honestly enormous and doesn’t really let you know how to create your path to victory nearly as well.

    This honestly left me turning off my console just feeling terrible about my purchase. Really disappointed that this is the most recent DW game. It honestly may have turned me off for quite a long time unless they manage to do something different and with an actual purpose next time. Pros

    * The combat felt like DW. Makes you feel very powerful

    * you can choose your weapon no matter what officer

    * there’s a shop/blacksmith system that you navigate in a city with your chosen officer.

    * you can forage to craft items although foraging feels to take away from what you want to be doing in this game * there is fishing.    … Expand

    In theory a lot has changed in the latest Dynasty Warriors (open world being the most notable addition) but in reality it’s the same game. It can be really enjoyable and at times impressive in terms of scale, but I got bored with it quite quickly. [04/2018, p.72]

    It’s such a shame to see the state of this franchise in 2018. Dynasty Warriors deserved better than this, and I hope Omega Force gets another shot to do this franchise justice, because this is not how the tales of the Three Kingdoms should end.
