Game is really good and creative. There ain't a lot of bugs but you do run into the assassins creed issues when trying to climb. The night hunter mode is garbage. It's so one sided they should put you out there with a diaper and binky and no weapons.

With Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide still lingering in everyone's brain, Techland have created something quite spectacular. You take on the world of Harran, a city being overrun with zombies and mutants. The parkour aspect of the game is delivered very well, and can make getting to far away places exciting and fun.

Dying Light takes on a crafting system similar to Dead Island, where you have the ability to find blueprints to create special weapons and have the option to repair weapons to reuse. The NPC's in the game are also similar to those in Dead Island, all looking very similar and acting the same.

The game also draws some elements from Far Cry 4, with some characters and missions reminding me of the people of Kyrat. Although these are mostly good, one particular part of the game (towards the end) is a direct reference to Far Cry, which leaves you scratching your head in Dying Light, and having nothing to do with the game.

The story is surprisingly good for Dying Light, as I had no real expectations after Dead Island. Techland show their creative story telling side, and shine throughout the game with no real weak spots.

One gripe I have with the game is the difficulty at the start. I constantly found myself dying in encounters with a group of zombies while only having weak starter weapons. Also, your first encounter with bandits can be extremely painful if you don't have a solid plan and decent weapons. I found myself loosing my cool at these points and struggling to find a reason to get through the difficult stretches.
Once you finish the story though, the game and city of Harran truly open up to you. With great weapons and loads of abilities, I find myself extremely enjoying the end game, both day and night, probably more then I was during the story.

Dying Light's greatest strength though, is the day/night cycle. Surviving during the day while trying to find loot and leveling up your character is enjoyable, but when the sun goes down and the volatiles come out, the gameplay switches from run and kill to stealth and silence. A chase by a volatile is an extremely terrifying thing as you try to get to the nearest safe zone. The night time is infested with these creatures, while also spiking up the difficulty for the AI zombies. Techland knew this, and made night time double XP for kills, which can give you a reason to stay outside and fight. Once you see the sun rising, you feel a great sign of relief and accomplishment.

The multiplayer and Co-op is definitely worth a play as well. I found myself in tears of laughter playing with friends, as the game offers so much enjoyable moments when enjoyed together.

All in all, Dying Light is one of the best zombie games out there. With great graphics and visuals, a fluent parkour system, a terrifying day/night cycle and a surprisingly solid story, Dying Light is something to be enjoyed by most, and to feared by many.

    In just a few words:
+ graphics are nice (runs smooth)
    + sound is good
+ parkours mechanics work better than Assassins Creed in my opinion
    - normal zombies are kinda boring and no challenge
    - battle system is very "dead-island"-ish (aka sloppy)

    Overall impression:
Fun, gory zombie splatter experience which just makes way more fun with a few friend around

There is zombies everywhere, chasing me and they can't let the urge of biting me in the neck go.

Dying Light is a very solid zombie-slashing/parkour game. The combat feels heavy and it feels great, and the awesome gore helps a lot with that. The parkour on the other hand is also good, but it could have a little bit more depth to it. Think "Mirror's Edge" and by that I mean the ability

Dying Light is a very solid zombie-slashing/parkour game. The combat feels heavy and it feels great, and the awesome gore helps a lot with that. The parkour on the other hand is also good, but it could have a little bit more depth to it. Think "Mirror's Edge" and by that I mean the ability to pull your legs in while jumping, making it even more fluid. Also sidewall running would be kind of awesome.

Just think about, running sidewalls, jumping away and in the are land an axe in a zombies head and just run along, towards the horizon. It would simply be awesome. Now, don't misunderstand me - I think the parkour is great and adds variation and a feeling of freedom. And jumping around at night being chased by Volatiles is an awesome feeling that everyone should experience at least once.

I do however wish that all weapons would scale with your level. Because later in the game, you get access to katanas, machetes, picks etc but baseball bats, crowbars and hammers get a lot more rare, which takes away the creativity of killing and the usefulness of 50% of the blueprints (blueprints is an permanent upgrade to your weapon, for example electricity or toxic and fire).

And sure, they could have been more creative when it comes to sidequests, some sidequests are really fun in terms of the character(s) you will talk with, which adds a little bit of humour - which is a fine contrast to the otherwise morbid world. But the structure of most quests gets repetitive - but the totally awesome combat and parkour does a perfect job at making the quests either fun or solid.

And with this I conclude my review. The story is OK, nothing new, but nothing bad either. The graphics are fine, except for some parts; the water is not that good looking, but everything else look either very good or good! For the sound, there is no problem with it. You can hear skulls cracking, zombies screaming right behind you as you run for your lfe.

So, I definitely recommend this game to anyway that is looking for innovative zombie killing!

The polarizing spirit of Dead Island resurfaces in this game in a much more polished incarnation. In terms of mechanics, the game feels like a cross between Dead Island and Assassin's Creed, while foregoing the weakness of both. In its beautiful open world, you hunt for loot, supplies, and a variety of mission types. The game has an incredibly palpable sense of environment, further enhanced by nighttime's elevated dangers. In addition the satisfying loot and parkour, there's also a really great character system. Just playing the game nets you points that you can use to further strengthen your zombie-slaying prowess.

While the game is by and large a great title, there are few things that I wish were improved or changed. For me, item durability seems a bit low and that trivializes most weapons for me. On the plus side, this makes you cherish your good weapons even more. There are also a few moments where the parkour can be a bit obtuse, just like my vocabulary.

So should you get this game if you're looking for some good zombie killing action? Absolutely. Quit reading my rant and buy it, son!

My experience with Dying Light has been an addictive, well rounded game mechanic with plenty to do. The XP upgrade system is excellent and worth pursuing, and the parkour style works really well in terms of it being a bit hard to master at first but then you can really start to rely on it once you understand it well. Visually the game is beautiful though I find skins a bit bland overall.

The only real gripe I have - and its a big one - is the story and voice acting. Terribly boring and predictable scenario and characters you meet. Their accents are all over the place (and not in an interesting/good way) it feels 'b' grade in that category. Its the kind of plot that feels deeply immature and dated for its lack of fresh personalities or decisions. I'd rate the game lower but I think it would do a huge injustice to the efforts put into the rest of the game which are top notch.

Also as I'm late to the game (few patches already implemented) I have found it to be glitch/bug free which was surprising given other reviewers reservations.

Highly recommended overall. Varied, addictive and fun.

I waited a year for this game to come out. And when it finally did, i was not disappointed. The gameplay is incredible, and the graphics are nothing short of gorgeous. Just exploring the massive open world is a blast. The only downside is that the story isn't super original, and there is a very cliche hallucination level at one point. other than that, i loved it, and i still can't put it down.

Dying light. A truly amazing game with so much content. The game itself looks gorgeous and the parkour system is absolutely fantastic. Dying light deserves a solid 9 rating. The reason being is because the story and the many clichés brings it down a little bit. Either way, an excellent game that I can't stop playing.

do not listen to what others say - this IS Dead Island, set in the middle east.
Here's the thing - and really, I knew this going in - but my cousin lives in another state and he wanted to play this game, so what am I gonna do? I dropped 59 on this garbage knowing it would suck. OK, so if you like to jump around like freakin spiderman and crack zombies in the dome with pieces of concrete

I dropped 59 on this garbage knowing it would suck. OK, so if you like to jump around like freakin spiderman and crack zombies in the dome with pieces of concrete on a pole, get this game and enjoy. For me, what makes zombie type games fun is the desperation, the lack of ammo and the struggle to survive with minimal supplies. This game has not sense of urgency, no semblance of a plot and no characters that are remotely interesting. You basically jump around rooftops, but not it a cool, graceful way like Assassins Creed or Batman, but just silly, cheesy motions that make you feel invincible. And I guess that's my problem, I don't think you should be a superhero in a zombie apocalypse. One final point here - the voice acting. Wow. It's worse - yes, worse, than Dead Island. Terrible sounding middle eastern stereotypes - and I'm just gonna say it and probably catch heat - I wish they sounded "American." That's my preference. If you found the accents in Dead Island annoying, you will want to mute your TV for Dying Light. What this game is NOT (and yes, I know it doesn't pretend to be) but it's NOT similar to , say The Last of Us, Resident Evil or even Dead Rising. So, say Left 4 Dead had a baby with Call of Duty, that would be Dying Light - with worse voice acting and lamer weapons. It's cheesy, did I mention the voice acting is terrible - and you're basically a superhero who only dies when you run into a huge crowd.
I give it a 6 because it's still worth $27 for trade in....

Maybe it was because that i had gotten better at parkour and fighting or maybe it was just because that i had figured out how to actually play it. Because the way to play Dying Light is to have fun. That is the reason to pick up this game. Not because of the story, not because of the gameplay but because it is fun and a little bit addictive sometimes. So should you pick up this game. If you're not tired of zombies and want to have fun, then yes. But if you expect an amazing plot and memorable characters, this is not where you should look. Then you should check out a game called "The last of us" (that is if haven't played it and you have a Playstation 3/4). But i will give this game an 8/10 cause of the high fun factor.

The explanation for the button layout is pretty stupid saying it 'aids the free running', when if you consider games where you jump and climb all over (Dishonoured) that use standard trigger settings and are still totally playable, it makes little sense.

As for the environment, I found dead island far more interesting, colourful and varied, and to be honest I enjoyed the game more. The enemies in dying light are boring and seem to have had little to no effort put into their design...they're just grey.

All in all I think this game was poorly put together, the voice acting and gameplay make it seem like a rush job, along with the unnecessarily fiddly controls (going against the tried and tested button layouts never pays off.) I didn't enjoy this as much as dead island.

It was bad enough how hard the game is in the very beginning, but you couldnt change the difficulty. AT ALL. (unless you update) SO I get completely leveled up and Im enoying the game. I was getting towards the end of the story, so I decided to let the game update for the DLC. Now the ENTIRE damage system has been reworked. I could understand adding a higher difficulty, which they also did, but for the casual player...someone whos already got 102 fugging hours in the game, to so drastically change the way you have to play....its very frustrating. So now my options are 1) quit playing it and dont finish a game i have over 4 solid days in 2) accept it and try to finish a game im no longer really having fun with 3) Delete the whole thing and start completely over again. If you enjoy zombie games, if you enjoy action games, RPG, think you'll get a kick out of this one. I'll update fully when I'm done it, but I'm liking it. Getting people to come into your game and help you out and you both progress in the story is great! Give it a chance!

The parkour isn't Mirror's Edge levels of intricate, but that's okay because if it was the movement system, while amazing, would have been too much of a distraction from the other gameplay elements. That said, the parkour is very good and exactly at the level it needs to be.

Where I think some complaints come from are from how the game changes about halfway in. What starts out as a survival horror game where resources are scarce, weapons are weak, and where you are likely to die if you encounter even 4 or more zombies, let alone a speciality one, later becomes a more fast paced zombie stomp romp that's fun to play with your friends, allowing you to quickly dispatch zombies with ease.

Some people came for the survival, some for the romp, the fact is you get both, and that's a good thing. I have no idea why people don't like the genre mesh, if I am paying this much for a game and it had better give me as much as Dying Light has.

So bravo on making a much better version of DI, but maybe next time attempt to play it a little unsafe and create something brand new. If you've played every zombie game ever made and you're tired of zombie games, thats your own fault. This is the best zombie game I've ever played and going in the game with a friend( yes you can co-op the entire game) exploring the open world, finding the easter eggs and loot hunting is the most fun i've had in a long time, it's got a fallout/far cry feel to it.

The game is pretty, stable and fun. The story so far (12 hours in) is better than I expected. The parkour is fun but would be much better if the jump and grab worked all the time unstead of just 2/3 of the time. It is so annoying jumping up and down uselessly while trying to grab a ledge while zombies are breathing down your neck (why do you need to look up to jump up - seems unnecessary). I wish they would get the code from Uncharted or Assassins Creed or Shadow of Mordor for parkour and this would be one hell of a game. Yet I am still playing because it is still fun and I seem to care what happens. Combat is decent, but you feel pretty underpowered at first and the game pretty much encourages you to run away from most fights (although you will have to fight to clear safehouses). I can see it getting tedious if one played the game nonstop start to finish (which is what the reviewers are doing more or less), but in 2-3 hour chunks it is good fun. The quests do bring this game down a little. That much is true. Just when you think you have finished a quest, they say, "Oh and one more thing you have to do before I give you your reward." Yet, they are fun enough to keep me playing longer than I have played in a long time. Night is scary and I haven't ventured out much yet because I am a wuss. So far I have 2 quests that require night and I did the one mandatory one. It wasn't too difficult (avoid vision cones on mini map which makes you move slower - if you try to speed run you will have 5 of them - special night zombies - on your butt in no time and they are fast). One other thing. The city design seems like it could have been better thought out to make running the roof tops faster and easier, but it adds to realism when your rooftops run out (not that jumping like this game is ultra realistic - but who cares - its a game). Also, a way to climb down would be nice (currently the only way down is to jump in trash bags or jump and hope it isn't high enough to kill you). Many have listed the facial animations as a detractor and while the characters are not super expressive, its not bad enough to take me out of the story (the animations are not robotic or anything). Upgrades and crafting are rewarding and well done. I am glad I took the chance on this game! Good fun that I see playing until the end (which I can't seem to do with most open world quest slogs). The parkour is done really well, but can be difficult at times because there is no clear cut pathway of what to climb/jump on as well as how to make it to an objective. Dying Light features three distinct skill trees that level up based on the objectives the player completes, the amount of parkour one does, and how many enemies the player takes down. The skill trees were one of my favorite mechanics behind this game as everything contained within was of great use; I actually felt rewarded by leveling my character. The open world is huge, and separated into two distinct zones in which the player can travel back and forth. There is no fast travel in Dying Light, which I found added to the game. It meant that I had to learn the terrain so I could make my way around quickly and strategically which added a good deal of immersion to my experience. The day/night cycle were a good addition to the experience as well. During the night, the enemies are harder to escape and will chase you down usually resulting in death. The trade-off is that you get bonus experience towards your skills at night, which makes leveling up quicker. The story isn't bad either, but the one-dimensional characters aren't going to win any awards either. I played Dying Light on the PC and would say that it's worth playing. Expand

This game is more or less the same, vehicles are replaced by parkour, core gameplay remains the same with mostly melee combat, with loot used to find better weapons/ or to create items, throwables, medkits, etc. But It definitely feels like a sequel and is no Dead Island 1.5. Now, the story is just as generic as Dead Island (maybe more?), it really is cliche as a zombie story you can get. Now for the pros and cons of this game. The pros are the parkour of this game, it adds a fresh twist to the game and is generally fun, especially with the grappling hook. The general game play (open world, combat, graphics, looting/crating, etc) to me is good and fun, but everything is limited. You'll be using the same weapons throughout the game, just with stronger stats. The blueprints to create stronger weapons was also limited; its basically adding fire, electric, impact, and toxic; except they make it look like a lot by giving it different names for different classes of weapons. It gives the illusion of tons of blueprints to collect, when there aren't. This is definitely not Dead Rising when it comes to crafting weapons, its like a watered down version of it. The worst part of this game is probably the side quests, the majority of side content are either unrewarding, a grind, or copy and paste of each other. However protection quests are fun, challenging, and rewarding, and clearing safe houses are also fun. Overall good core game play, with a lot of so-so elements added to it. To recap the good: The Parkour, general game play. The Bad: Cliche Zombie story and grindy/ unrewarding side quests. When it comes down to it, I can't recommend this game to everyone as it can get repetitive like Dead Island, but guaranteed anyone who enjoyed Dead Island WILL enjoy this game just as much, if not more. Dying Light is generally a darker, more serious game then the former title, however the main antagonist Kyle Crane has some of the most bland and generic dialogue moments I've ever heard in a game. I'm not a big fan of Crane at all - he's about as generic of an American antagonist as can be, and most of his dialogue is just cheesy. That being said, the game's main story is engaging, and there are many side quests to do to keep you on your toes as well. I'm a fan of the new parkour elements implemented throughout the game - they seem to add an even greater element of tension and exploration. The soundtrack from this game is also very unique, and almost serves as a 70's/80's horror film throwback. The game can be a bit buggy however; the key things I have noticed is that the parkour elements can be somewhat unreliable at times, and when moving through the open world at a fast pace there seems to be some frame dropping occasionally. The durability and stamina systems would be more fair individually, however when put together they can make combat very frustrating early on. Fortunately, you level up fairly quickly by gaining experience for doing just about anything and everything. It's also fair to point out that the graphics for this game are great - they may not be the best that the PS4 has to offer, but it's a definite step up over previous gen titles. Dying Light is sure to develop a cult following just as the Dead Island titles - if you are looking for a first person zombie basher with rpg elements and a fusion of parkour gameplay, then you'll probably enjoy this game. Sure, graphically the game is nice enough(mainly because of some pretty lighting), but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about there being close to 100 zombies on screen at once(including big ones that throw cars),being able to go in and out of like a thousand random buildings, and how big the map is. I also think the game has a really cool soundtrack. All in all a great game top to bottom, sure the story is pretty average but that's not even that bad considering the game doesn't need a great story and this story isn't bad at all just nothing to get excited about. Dying Light no question has gorgeous graphics from the beautiful sunsets to the well designed land marks; all aspects that helped shape Dying Lights diverse atmosphere.
Even when it rains it adds more fidelity to the game, DL detail is also surprisingly noteworthy to w/destruction of debris to the ability to venture through buildings, Techlands art & design team certainly did their job here.
Another cool instance is where you sometimes do a slow motion attack when hitting a critical slash which i thought was cool.
    + Great Atmosphere.
    + Epic Landmarks.
    9/10

    Sound/Music -
The SFX were great, the sound of weapons smashing into zombies was all to satisfying also the sound of crashing through a roof or ACTIVATING car traps were spot on.
Sound actually plays a big part in the game, using any gun or explosive is a risky move; which attracts all zombies in the vicinity.

Licensed music in the game would’ve been good, it’s unfortunate though the start screen music was the only noticeable piece of music i remembered in the game.
Voice casting wasn’t great but not bad either, actually it was just average; the voice actors weren’t bad but i think the poor script writing sure effected the voice acting here.
    - Average Voice Acting.
    + Spot On SFX.
    + SFX Importance.
    7/10

    Story/Characters -
The story is what lacks most for Dying Light, it is very mundane & short which is disappointing after presenting us w/this great open world experience.
Most characters were dull & i had NO INTEREST in the main protagonist Kyle Crane but the main antagonist Rais failed to impress me the most, his design seemed unoriginal & cliche.
The supporting cast was disappointing too & was probably worse; Rahim was annoying, Jade seemed more negligent then helpful & most of the other characters just seemed pointless to the story.
Despite all the above its the side missions that were interesting, they were fun & they SAVE the game from becoming a bore & even the side mission characters were more interesting and appealing.
    - Short & Predictable Story.
    - Lifeless Main Cast.
    + Great side missions.
    4/10

    Gameplay/Multiplayer -
Gameplay is highly addictive when it comes to killing zombies, the melee system is great & you have a fair amount of abilities at disposal for killing zombies which are quite pleasing thanks to the skill tree.
Sadly though i was disappointed with the gun variety & how they handle, i found myself hip firing instead of using ADS & the lack of variety in guns and top tier melee weapons disappoints too.
Blueprints keep the weapons fun though & there are some wicked mods in the game if you put time & effort into finding them.

The biggest major though is the parkour system; the parkour is really smooth and feels natural when leaping around and climbing.
You can do exciting things like leap from rooftop to rooftop too climbing a bridge & it gets even more intense at night when being chased which is very satisfying,

Multiplayer is also a lot of fun and is best played with friends making the story easy but enjoyable.
Everything can be done with friends except the end, quarantine zones & challenges are easier too.
Be a Zombie is a fun PvP feature but can be frustrating at times for both the hunter & the zombie.
    + Satisfying Melee System.
    + Fun Parkour.
    9/10

    Technical/AI -
I barely witnessed much frame rate drop, if so it didn’t effect my experience throughout my play throughs but there is a few problems like survivors getting stuck, the mission log not functioning well in co-op, all the little things that i witnessed throughout my gameplay.
The A.I. wasn’t too bad, Rais men were relatively smart and even zombie runners were unpredictable for a while but i’d say the AI works fine.
    + Steady Frame Rate.
+ Good A.I. 8/10 Trophies/Challenge/Replay Value - Trophies is bugged so be warned, as for the games difficulty it all depends on how you play overall. Its a moderately difficult game but if you’re playing w/friends then the game can be quite easy. The replay value is great & expected from a open world game, you have statues, notes and blueprints all to find and i easily spent 80+ hours on Dying Light. -/+ Easy Trophies. + Moderate difficulty. + Vast replay value. 7/10 Overall - This game is fun for any type of gamer, but if you really love your story driven games then this is not for you but if you are a Dead Island fan, love open world games, finding collectables and high action then this is a definite pick up for you. A great buy and definitely worth the MONEY despite the cons. Final Rating - 7.5/10

The two maps in this game (large scale and linked) are some of the most beautifully crafted, detailed, STUNNING maps I have ever seen.

They infuse elements of Moroccan, South American architecture, a stunning walled city surrounding by gorgeous cascading cliffs and a fantastic beach. Heck there are even ruined Roman aqueducts, it's insane!!! So many small details.

And the fact that you can now traverse the high rise roof tops is incredible. It's also filled with TONS of loot, eye candy, zombie hordes and beautiful indoor environments.

    What I LOVE:
Story is engaging and cleverly written (cliched enough to not take itself too seriously)

Mechanics are smooth as butter, free-running is astonishingly well built and easy. The melee combat is intense and satisfying.

The sound design and voice-overs are TOP notch. The music is fantastic, a play on the films of the 80's Zombie revolution in the likes of Romaro. The zombie sounds and shrieks are bone chilling; especially at night!

Lot of satisfying secondary missions very finely crafted to augment the main missions; the story always makes sense and always further develops the characters.

Fantastic Coop and PVP (Zombie mode) mechanics.

Fantastic atmosphere! Doesn't take itself too seriously but is also dark enough to make it tense and gritty.

Runs great on PS4, occasional frame drops but I rarely notice it enough to care. Would have obviously been nice at 60fps, but even PC is having trouble apparently.

    I can't understand how this game hasn't gotten a 90%+

Then thrown in a day and night cycle where being out a night is much more dangerous and the last thing you want is to be caught out while the sun is going down and you've got a very scary atmosphere. Combat is very satisfying and is similar to Dead Island but much more improved. For the zombie genre fans out there, this is a very good game which you'll enjoy but for people who can't stand the zombie genre, I don't feel like this will do much for ya. They've also continued to support the game with paid and free DLC four years after release. I mean that's pretty cool. Expand

This game is a decent fps zombie game, too bad that the idea is overused and they tried to copy dead island idea, they failed miserably, but at least this game is interesting and somewhat fun to play.

While the graphics are nothing special and the story is lackluster, Dying Light still manages to provide plenty of zombie-slaying fun thanks to a fluid, well-designed parkour system, and satisfying, rewarding combat with tons of weapons and skills to unlock and try out.. Another fact that I somehow don't like is a timing issue let's say. Example: you have this mission which sound so urgent and you have to go immediately in a certain place, but actually you can do all the side missions including bringing crayons to children during a span of 4 5 game days and then go to the urgent place. It kind of loses first impact you get from the game, impact you get in first missions when there is no side mission. The controls can't be fully changed so you have to get used with those, and if you played many shooters lately with other controls you feel this issue in some moments in the game Expand

Dying Light is the spiritual sequel of Dead Island (by the same studio) it had the ambition to be even better, but did they succeed in their enterprise ?

Technically the game is very good, with very beautiful graphics for early 2015, specially the light effects which is obvious thanks to the day/night cycle. Everything is detailed and you don't feel like the city was built using only a few models of building thanks to all those details. The animations are top notch too with great realistic feeling when you're running and such. Also it is important to point the lack of glitches (very rare in open worlds game) and the solid framerate even when there's a lot of zombies on the screen.

Concerning the gameplay we find everything we encountered in Dead Island : focus on melee fights, very important looting system and the use of mods to upgrade your weapon, the possibility to play in coop, an open world with a lot of side quests, and the introduction to modified zombies the further you progress in the game. But we also had the parkour abilities of our character which enhance all the trips you have to make in the city making a run in the rooftops equally fun to a brawl with zombies and the previously mentioned day/night cycle that introduce a new kind of gameplay (at night) when you're the prey of the strongest kind of zombies (who might be a player if your enable the option) that also allows new emotions. Those two additions make for a worthy (unofficial) sequel. The only downside is the repetitivity of the game, a flaw that plagues many open worlds and you won't encounter new situations during the second half of the game.

Concerning the story, it's pretty classic for a zombie outbreak with themes such as the search of a cure and the biggest threat being other humans. It won't win any prize but it's efficient and you can rely with the characters. The game also offers a lot of side quests and it's good to see that most have their own stories (a few of them are just request on a billboard) that makes them more interesting and you want to see them through, some will even impact your environment. If you want to finish the game at 100% you can expect more or less 30 hours of gameplay with 12 for the main campaign, it's in the good average for this kind of game.

In conclusion Dying Light improves on the Dead Island formula and it's without a doubt the best zombie game available for PS4, but it misses originality in its gameplay and its story to appeal for gamers that aren't interested in zombies. But if you like to smash the heads of the undead I definitively advise this game.

Having to run from different parts of the maps without a fast travel option allowed for so many fun parkour and zombie killing moments. Even fully leveled up, you can sometimes find yourself in a pinch even with the lower level zombies.

They really created a fun world where you have the necessary tools to survive. Also the slightly campy story, filled with the John Carpenter style music, really sets a great tone for the overall experience. Then you have your day & night cycles, which create entire moods of their own both in tone and difficulty.

The main campaign is a solid length due to the fact that if you try to progress too soon, the missions may just be too hard to beat. It creates a need for you to explore and get in intense situations so that you can build your character.

I will admit, that sometimes the courier aspect of some of the missions was a bit tedious and a let down. However, all the moments in between more than make up for that shortcoming. Having a zombie player invade your game can also be an insanely tense experience during the in between moments.

If your looking for a fun game, with a fun world, this is definitely worth your $60.

Did I mention the games parkour mechanics are better than other parkour-based games like Mirror's edge or Assassin's Creed?

The fighting system is pretty good, although some of the abilities you can unlock seem a bit overpowered and unrealistic, like the slide-kick which can outright kill two of Rais's men at once if timed correctly. The zombies are a danger at first but eventually even the scariest ones become easy to handle.

The story is fairly decent, side quests range from "cool!" to "meh..", character writing could have been better. Crafting seems a bit limited but at least it has a crafting system unlike some games. The thing I would have most liked to see is a more 'Fallout-style' character creator, with maybe some exclusive perks depending on character type or something.

You can't judge what to buy from someone elses opinion alone (Alien Isolation and Pokémon:OR/AS would be a prime example of this, too much water anyone?). It borrows from popular titles (Skyrim lock-picking) whilst building upon their initial foundation for the game, Dead Island.

When I played the latter I didn't quite enjoy how goofy it felt most of the time. So although they have similarities in their function, the tones present are entirely dissimilar, and that's why I'm enjoying Dying Light to a much higher extent.
I purchased the game day one and have been playing for a few hours each day. One long thing to note before I continue, and avoid if you're playing, is directly quitting the game after sleeping in a safehouse to make it either day or night. I did this because of the lack of a manual save function and didn't know how much progress I would lose or rather, when or what triggered autosaving. As it appears, a characters skills and the story are saved separately, so to my dismay the next day when I booted up the game, I retained my story progression but lost all of my items, blueprints and skill points. Only in that instance and from doing what I mentioned above specifically, did I experience the glitch.

Now, you can always build up your skill points again (which I did) from engaging in the games brilliant parkour system and the Dead Island-esque combat. You can't however, regain a medkit blueprint in order to heal yourself as it's a tutorial acquired item (Gauze and Alcohol). My temporary fix for this, until a patch is released, was getting another medkit blueprint using different materials, specifically herbs. But I come by those a LOT less frequently.
Speaking of which, gathering the resources in the zombie-infested slums of Harran is quite gratifying, along with the added challenge that you are always (generally) in danger. There's been many a time of tossing and tossing fire crackers in order to shift the attention of the undead away from a welcoming air package. That is until you acquire the camo ability, effectively letting you rub the zombo gunk all over yourself from a dead zombie and blending in with the crowd (Walking Dead eat your heart out).

With Harran in mind, I've read about two reviews mentioning the games map-size and that it's average. Now obviously there's some serious lack of progression in the game to announce such a thing. The slums are quite large, they do blend in after awhile and it begins to feel like you know the place as well as your own home. What they fail to mention is Sector 0, or Old Town. This is a different section in the game and a different map entirely (albeit smaller). I won't spoil it's aesthetics but I was in such awe of seeing this brand new area to explore. I wished the map was bigger and they chose the slums to be the smaller of the two. That being said it is still a big and beautiful map.

Despite very minor hitches and peoples suspicions about late review codes and what state the game must have been in, I have only experienced the one glitch that I mentioned earlier. Which is a lot less than I did playing AC: Unity.

My advice would be to pick up this fabulous title and give Techland your support. A lot of the bad I've read is simply that it is not 100% original, but rather a mesh of various popular mechanics, which is honestly not many. The main one that hits everyones minds is Mirrors Edge parkour. But I simply fail to see how you could possibly have made it any differently. It's a man jumping and hoisting himself up on buildings. There's not a lot of room for variation. If you're not a picky critic, and aren't expecting a Telltale plot in the ways of the games story, I can guarantee you'll have a lot of fun playing Dying Light.

Music - nothing sensational, but fits the mood perfectly, the main theme is absolutely great. And the mood is much more serious than Dead Island, with no blinking objects around the world you feel like you are there instead of the game holding your hand and showing you the goodies around you. You have to work carefully for your progress while being careful of the masses of zombies around at all times - great survival element.
Love the colours - more realistic than most games (including Dead Island and even GTA V), the setting and the colour palette might remind you of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - and this is huge compliment.
The horror comes at night, when you become the prey and vicious zombies will chase you in the dark - and this is how nights in videos games should be (unlike the well lit ones on Rockstar's and Bethesda's games).
Bottom line - fun to play, intriguing main story, tons of good side quests, great visuals and fitting music. Pretty much better than anything that came out in 2014.

This game is worth a punt. It looks good with a few oddities that don't detract from the game. There's a palpable underlying worry when faced with any group of zombies, that you'll be manhandled to death. That's not to mention the hulking zombies and the newly turned that come running interrogating load sounds.

Yes the plot is a bit thin and the voice acting could be better. Whilst the story and the missions are slightly under par it's a fun jaunt that's keeping me interested. In fact when looking at the sub par score blasted about by the so called critics I think it proves that Meta Critic should reverse the way it represents the games. To be less critic orientated and more user orientated. I have severe reservations that the critics actually know what they're on about. Even so I say play this game. It's fun. It's tense at times. The fighting whilst, overly clumsy rewards and punishes to the correct degree. It's not perfect and I wonder at people who expect 100% perfection are in fact being 100% realistic to any degree.

I've never really been a fan of the Dead Island series. I found it to be clunky and tiresome, with missions that never seemed to have any soul. I didn't go into it expecting much, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. First of all the graphics (I'm on PS4), are extremely pretty, with foliage that sways in the wind, and lighting that looks gorgeous no matter what time of the day in game. Next is the game play. The free running system has breathed new life into the zombie genre. Its fluidity mixed with the tactics you can use make for some interesting situations to get into or out of. My main problem with the free running system would be the tower climbing. It feels like it was tacked on and it feels a bit difficult to climb. The combat, which is largely melee, is fine tuned to feel fluid and hits feel like they connect in the best most brutal ways. Last, but definitely not least, is the soundtrack. The ambient music, the action music, it all works beautifully to create the true ambiance of a zombie outbreak. Techland has made a very solid zombie game, with a few hitches here and there. Definitely a solid 7/10, and I would recommend this game to anybody with a PS4. Expand

This Game took Co-op into a whole new level, plus the main story and the side missions are just epic, killing zombies in this game is so satisfying xD.

I just HAD to write a review for this one.
I definetly wasn't gonna pick up Dying Light - i'm simply not into zombie games usually.
I watched a few streams on Twitch og damn it seemed like a lot of fun. I ended up preordering it shortly after and i am having a BLAST playing this game. Dying Light reminded me that games are about having fun, thats all really, we tend to forget that

I have been playing COOP for a first time in a looong while with a good friend and what a blast, every aspect of single player coop are done RIGHT in this game, other developers should definetly take notice.
We still have a lot to do in Dying Light, the game is just HUGE. Value for money dudes.

I personally don't get all the negative reviews this games has gotten from the so called "critics".
It's a blast to play solo, it's tremendous fun playing with friends.

Dont cheat yourself of a good experience. Take the Plunge..!!

This was a really good game. Overall it was fun, and looks beautiful. The sound design is a bit, mucky to me however, and there was the occasional drop in framerate, never dipping bellow 40 as far as I could tell. The different weapons and special infected keep the game interesting, though sadly I really wished they could have used larger cities and to throw in some vehicles. The second city is great, but so small it doesn't at all fell that fun to explore. The first had no really memorable places, except for the bridge. The story is rather mediocre and doesn't really seem to know where it wants to go until you begin to head out for the second city, and it only ever has slight flashes of interesting characters at certain points. And lets call the villain what he is. Okay. His dialogue is pretty awful, though he seems to be an over all interesting person. So this game is what it set out to be. A fun, open world, zombie sandbox game. Can't wait to compare it to Dead Island 2, which in my opinion, well have to do a lot to differentiate itself from Dying Light, a fun game with a lot of meaty substance. I didn't even mention the Co-Op functionality as well as the great fun of the VS. play as the infected mode. Expand

What I found to be helpful is to stand on top of rooftops and plan out your path. If I had one complaint it's that as you start leveling up it starts making the game easier, I am a casual gamer though so this did not bother me so much as there are a ton of missions and side missions to keep you busy, and there are definitely still challenges. All in all if you enjoyed Dead Island I think you'll enjoy this game. Expand

Dying Light is probably the most detailed and ambitious open world zombie game I have seen. It properly captures a good mix of zombie fun with zombie fear along with satisfying combat and a rewarding looting systems complimented with a good crafting system. Additionally, the story may not have been too compelling, but was good nonetheless. Numerous side missions within two large open maps to explore allowed plenty of content and the how the game handled combat, creative, and evasive mechanics kept all that content varied and fresh.

I found its main story to be somewhat satisfying, there were some parts that shocked and amazed me. I actually enjoyed the main characters and the overall realistic and more serious tone of the story fit well with the game as a whole. Side missions became a very enjoyable part of the game; and the characters involved with them were are unique and I didn't feel like I was doing a chore, getting a reward, and moving on. Most of them had some extent of story to it which easily made up the fact that they were mainly errand boy missions; and the games many creative game mechanics allowed it to be very enjoyable as I could usually take a variety of approaches.

Creativity is especially encouraged; I could use a variety of movement abilities and combat abilities to combo together and execute some very enjoyable and satisfying moves. The games 3 skill trees allowed me to get more and more abilities that all added to the game as a whole. Ideas like zombie camouflage were plain genius to have while abilities like drop kick and grapple are among the funnest to do in combination with other abilities. I almost always found a new skill to spend a skill point on that would significantly change my play style or at least give me an ability that would make a difference whether in or out of combat. Some others include snapping necks, using zombies as a pole vault, tackling, throwing my weapon, among many abilities that would allow me to craft awesome equipment.

But the creativity doesn't stop there. A huge and overwhelming amount of weaponry allowed me to take up almost any combat style I felt like taking. And its not limited to just melee weapons, but various throw-able weapons like throwing stars, grenades, and Molotov. Not to mention guns, which seemed unfinished, but did not bother me one bit as I much preferred melee weaponry (which was not only funner but encouraged) and almost never used guns, but its good to see that the option to use them was there. The addition of weapon upgrades with elemental effects to both melee and thrown equipment created significantly more fun. These ideas really lived up to and surpassed the idea of creative brutality, not to mention many traps varied around the city. All these options gave me many tactical approaches that were so very satisfying to pull off.

Yet there is still more; craft-able equipment like riot shields (with elemental options), firecrackers, flares and others like grappling hooks and the oh so important UV flashlight all had a place in the game. Possibilities became endless, and the fact that some of these required blueprints only encouraged exploration around the map which further encouraged the games smooth movement system.

The two maps of Old Town and Harran were both very complimentary to the parkour system and the many various structures were located to allow and encourage smooth movement. Exploration was very fun as new areas felt fresh and the hunt for better loot, material, and blueprints fit well and did not at all feel like a farm fest.

Looting was a core mechanic and finding that new badass weapon was always a thrill for me and, although durability would seem like a problem, I always found a better, cooler weapon before it was even half broken. Looting was rewarding and the lock picking minigame made sense to me and I was perfectly content with it.

Combat feels and plays great. I've already mentioned many combat moves and there are many more still unmentioned. When I hit a zombie with a blunt weapon, it feels real, the sound gives a feel a realism and using sharp edged weapons are satisfying to use to dismember zombies.

Graphically, the game is beautiful, even the zombies are beautiful in their own way (except the Toads). The only bad thing about this is that the facial animations on characters are sometimes dull, but mainly on the non-important characters.

Zombies are as they should be: Dumb and slow, but very dangerous in numbers. Among the regular zombies are, however, many other zombie types that keep the challenges fresh and varied. one biter isn't a challenge and is rather a play doll I can enjoy messing with, 5-10 zombies will test my parkour and evasive moves, and 20-30 zombies is certain death.

    **Out of characters :(

Night time adds in a real scare factor that is executed wonderfully.

Multiplayer is VERY fun with friends and Be The Zombie is an AMAZING addition.

Dying Light for the PS4 is like a girlfriend who is drop dead beautiful. She's not very bright but still enjoyable to talk to. And she is so absolutely amazing in bed that you don't mind anymore that the reason she doesn't know how to dial 911 is because she cannot find the "11" button on the phone.

This is likely the first time I have had this much fun with a game since The Last of Us. Yesa, yes, I know. They are 2 completely different games. What I mean is that it doesn't happen often that a game can totally submerge me into the "set" if you will. Just like The Last of Us, Dying Light is a Vast, and beautiful play ground. Sure, starting off the main character in Dying Light (Crane) is a bit under-powered, which makes fighting zombies real difficult. NEWSFLASH! It is supposed to be. :-) Part of what submerged me in this game is the realization that Crane is not a super soldier that blows everything up and puts fifty bullets into anything that moves. He is a survivor. He survives, not dominates. That being said, as you progress in the game you will experience the almost perfect skill tree system. Survivor, Agility, and power are what you can choose from and each category has (I think 20 or so) different skills to choose from. Survivor points are awarded mostly after completing story missions, and quests. Power points are awarded for each zombie, or goon killed. Agility (which is probably what I find most fun) is awarded by "parkouring" your way around the huge map called Harran. The parkour was the highlight for me. If you know what to look for, and you will after some play time, you can move seamlessly and almost effortlessly across village rooftops or highway car pileups. A lot of people are reminded of Mirrors edge when playing this game. I have never played mirrors edge so I cannot say I agree, but I will say that this is a MUST play. Techland out-did themselves. I tried and tried to get into the Dead Island games but i did not like them at all. I just didn't much like the overall "attitude" of the game. It was hard to take seriously, but this came has risen to my top 10 for sure. Give it a try. Expand

Once you have overcome the initial difficulty of the game and voided confrontation until you are able, the world becomes easier to traverse. Anyone who hasn't got passed this needn't be voting as really it's totally unfair on the game. In my mind, this is one of the best games ever made... This game absolutely blew my mind. I haven't been following it's development, i only saw one trailer and thought "oh well, assassins creed meets dead island", and didn't have much interest in buying it.
Then February came and i needed a game to play with a buddy and Dying Light offered Coop, so we bought the game, hoping it would be any good.
The last Game we bought wishing for a good coop experience was Destiny (while we both got to Level 28/29 eventually, we didn't bother playing the DLC, it's stupidly repetitive and the Story just isn't there).
So we started the game with low expectations and mediocre experience thanks to Destiny.
    And it was awesome.
The Coop was seamless, the Story was absolutely great (i mean, it's not the best Story i've ever heard but it's good no less), the Experience was phenomenal. I really LOVE the City and the immersion, the other characters - even if they might be a little stereotypical, but some are actually quite well drawn.

The first night brought my heart up to it's limits, and even after a couple of hours we started running like little chickens whenever the 1-hour-warning started.
    The overall Experience was awesome.
I've experienced the Save bug, so i had to replay three Sidequests as my game wasn't saved properly (which was fixed shortly after), so i've put about 40 hours in the game.
Yesterday we played the last story mission and eventually got a notification "you're about to start the final mission, it can only be played in singleplayer" and we both immediately said "oh wait, no! don't start" and started running as fast as we could.
We simply didn't want the game to end.
It's maybe the third or the fourth time i've experienced this feeling in a game (the last time was The Last of Us, another might be GTA Vice City - and i've played games for quite some time now).
    It's just good.
Yes some things are not perfect (the first DLC sucks), but it's a really solid game.
Best game on the PS4 so far.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I usually don't give any games a 10/10 as nothing is really ever perfect but I was very disapointed at how low some of the critic reviews were. The game definitely deserves higher than a 74. Some indie titles are getting high 80's and that blows my mind (OlliOlli2.......). Dying Light isn't the perfect game and at times can be a bit frustrating but I thoroughly enjoyed the I am Legend'esk experience. I remember the watch alarm first going off and I was way off from a safe zone trying to finish up a side quest. I actually got chill bumps thinking about the scene from I am Legend. It is undeniable they took many of the concepts from that movie but it worked fantastically for me. I love the atmosphere of the game, the story, and the at times hilarious ways to rid the city of the zombie menace. Truly a game I will remember among the sea of titles for years to come. Expand
