With Dead Island and Dead Island Riptide still lingering in everyone's brain, Techland have created something quite spectacular. You take on the world of Harran, a city being overrun with zombies and mutants. The parkour aspect of the game is delivered very well, and can make getting to far away places exciting and fun.

Dying Light takes on a crafting system similar to Dead Island, where you have the ability to find blueprints to create special weapons and have the option to repair weapons to reuse. The NPC's in the game are also similar to those in Dead Island, all looking very similar and acting the same.

The game also draws some elements from Far Cry 4, with some characters and missions reminding me of the people of Kyrat. Although these are mostly good, one particular part of the game (towards the end) is a direct reference to Far Cry, which leaves you scratching your head in Dying Light, and having nothing to do with the game.

The story is surprisingly good for Dying Light, as I had no real expectations after Dead Island. Techland show their creative story telling side, and shine throughout the game with no real weak spots.

One gripe I have with the game is the difficulty at the start. I constantly found myself dying in encounters with a group of zombies while only having weak starter weapons. Also, your first encounter with bandits can be extremely painful if you don't have a solid plan and decent weapons. I found myself loosing my cool at these points and struggling to find a reason to get through the difficult stretches.
Once you finish the story though, the game and city of Harran truly open up to you. With great weapons and loads of abilities, I find myself extremely enjoying the end game, both day and night, probably more then I was during the story.

Dying Light's greatest strength though, is the day/night cycle. Surviving during the day while trying to find loot and leveling up your character is enjoyable, but when the sun goes down and the volatiles come out, the gameplay switches from run and kill to stealth and silence. A chase by a volatile is an extremely terrifying thing as you try to get to the nearest safe zone. The night time is infested with these creatures, while also spiking up the difficulty for the AI zombies. Techland knew this, and made night time double XP for kills, which can give you a reason to stay outside and fight. Once you see the sun rising, you feel a great sign of relief and accomplishment.

The multiplayer and Co-op is definitely worth a play as well. I found myself in tears of laughter playing with friends, as the game offers so much enjoyable moments when enjoyed together.

All in all, Dying Light is one of the best zombie games out there. With great graphics and visuals, a fluent parkour system, a terrifying day/night cycle and a surprisingly solid story, Dying Light is something to be enjoyed by most, and to feared by many.

There is zombies everywhere, chasing me and they can't let the urge of biting me in the neck go.

Dying Light is a very solid zombie-slashing/parkour game. The combat feels heavy and it feels great, and the awesome gore helps a lot with that. The parkour on the other hand is also good, but it could have a little bit more depth to it. Think "Mirror's Edge" and by that I mean the ability to pull your legs in while jumping, making it even more fluid. Also sidewall running would be kind of awesome.

Just think about, running sidewalls, jumping away and in the are land an axe in a zombies head and just run along, towards the horizon. It would simply be awesome. Now, don't misunderstand me - I think the parkour is great and adds variation and a feeling of freedom. And jumping around at night being chased by Volatiles is an awesome feeling that everyone should experience at least once.

I do however wish that all weapons would scale with your level. Because later in the game, you get access to katanas, machetes, picks etc but baseball bats, crowbars and hammers get a lot more rare, which takes away the creativity of killing and the usefulness of 50% of the blueprints (blueprints is an permanent upgrade to your weapon, for example electricity or toxic and fire).

And sure, they could have been more creative when it comes to sidequests, some sidequests are really fun in terms of the character(s) you will talk with, which adds a little bit of humour - which is a fine contrast to the otherwise morbid world. But the structure of most quests gets repetitive - but the totally awesome combat and parkour does a perfect job at making the quests either fun or solid.

And with this I conclude my review. The story is OK, nothing new, but nothing bad either. The graphics are fine, except for some parts; the water is not that good looking, but everything else look either very good or good! For the sound, there is no problem with it. You can hear skulls cracking, zombies screaming right behind you as you run for your lfe.

So, I definitely recommend this game to anyway that is looking for innovative zombie killing!

The polarizing spirit of Dead Island resurfaces in this game in a much more polished incarnation. In terms of mechanics, the game feels like a cross between Dead Island and Assassin's Creed, while foregoing the weakness of both. In its beautiful open world, you hunt for loot, supplies, and a variety of mission types. The game has an incredibly palpable sense of environment, further enhanced by nighttime's elevated dangers. In addition the satisfying loot and parkour, there's also a really great character system. Just playing the game nets you points that you can use to further strengthen your zombie-slaying prowess.

While the game is by and large a great title, there are few things that I wish were improved or changed. For me, item durability seems a bit low and that trivializes most weapons for me. On the plus side, this makes you cherish your good weapons even more. There are also a few moments where the parkour can be a bit obtuse, just like my vocabulary.

So should you get this game if you're looking for some good zombie killing action? Absolutely. Quit reading my rant and buy it, son!

One of the best games available on PS4 until now. The story is not the main force of Dying Light, but the music, the sound effects, the graphics, the gameplay & the possibility to play the entire game in coop make me think that Dying Light is near to be a must-have if you like zombies games.
The atmosphere of Dying Light is also remarkable.

    8/10 without hesitation.

If Mirror's Edge and Dead Island had a love child, she'd be named Dying Light. ThatIf Mirror's Edge and Dead Island had a love child, she'd be named Dying Light. With gorgeous graphics, great controls (depending on your ability to execute them) and a creepy atmosphere that had me unknowingly biting my tongue as night began to fall, you get an immersive, open-world Zombie apocalypse experience that transports in a way very few Zombie games (if any) have done before. That being said, if you've ever played Dead Island before you'll notice a few of Techland's and many other open-world developers clichéd approaches to storyline filler, most notably the infamous and incessant "fetch quests" that too often can pull one out the realism of what an open-world game should strive to achieve. You take it with a grain of salt as the overall experience is still spine-tinglingly immersive. However, in a real apocalypse scenario I would not be out scouring the world for crayons or coffee for people too frightened to venture out themselves. Sure you can just decide not to be the city's errand boy to a certain degree, but you're compelled to help for the rewards and you figure maybe you'll just randomly stumble upon these items anyway...so sure...I'll pick them up if I see them. The voice acting is pretty decent and the dynamic weather system and day/night cycle is a significant part of the backbone of the experience, hence the name "Dying Light". Rummaging through buildings and picking the locks of vehicles looking for supplies while contending with Zombies is a manageable experience, or racing for an air-drop trying to get it before the merciless gang of survivors beat you to it, while fun, is not particularly challenging. However hearing over the radio that night is falling advising you to find shelter adds a level of urgency and fear because once night falls you're screwed and the simplest of tasks becomes a fight for survival that you may not come out of. Some of the most enjoyable experiences were getting caught outside at night and finding a little shack or sewer pipe to hunker down in, crouching still with your light off while you hear the grunts and moans of Zombies around you outside, searching for a meal. Do they pass by your little hiding spot or do they happen to stumble in or spot you through a window, letting out a blood curdling scream and alerting every Zombie in the area of your presence, prompting you to either fight or run? It's all random so unless you've found a designated Safe House you never feel safe, which is great. The Parkour element brings open-world to a whole new level and it makes you realize that previous open-world games were not as "open" as we'd have liked them to be when you can't scale a building, jump from rooftop to rooftop reaching for a ledge to grab or eventually the use a grappling hook to essentially go where ever you like. The upgradeable weapon system is great too, but early on the weapons are weak and basic which I believe turned off a lot of gamers who played for a day or two and wanted their money back. I personally enjoy having to scrounge for a plank of wood and knocking a few heads back and forth, hoping it will last long enough to beat my foe. It adds to the realism and the need to be resourceful and inventive in your attacks. After a while though the weapons become more useful and the satisfaction from lopping a head off with one swipe of your machete, or severing the arm or hand of a Zombie as they reach out to grab you doesn't really get tiring. There is no limit to the damage you can inflict. This was apparent the first time I split one right down the middle. If you're out of weapons or just like being a bit more efficient and clever as opposed to the hack and slash, a simple firecracker thrown into an oil slick will attract your foes and light them up. With a 3 pronged ability system you begin to unlock other attacks and abilities which are also integral parts of your arsenal. Such as drop kicking a zombie into an array of hazards and impaling them on spikes and bent bars on windows that were once used to barricade survivors until the creatures inevitably broke through. Point is, you have options outside of your weapons. The online portion is enjoyable and adds a new element to the gameplay. Whether you team up with a few friends and battle the hoards, or take on the an invading player in the form of a super zombie it's a lot of fun. If you choose to "Be The Zombie" you'll enjoy a whole new upgradeable character, full of unlockable abilities to help you eradicate your human adversaries. Hunt them down, stalking them in the shadows while watching them with infrared vision. Let out a scream and watch their movement scramble taking satisfaction that you're getting in their heads, then pounce when the time is right. There's a lot to enjoy in this game, and if you can take the clichés and, at times, pointless fetch quests with a grain of salt you'll see that the pros definitely outweigh the cons and there is no other Zombie game out there like it. Then i got like two hours into it and suddenly it was just MUCH better for some reason (and i am not quite sure why). Maybe it was because that i had gotten better at parkour and fighting or maybe it was just because that i had figured out how to actually play it. Because the way to play Dying Light is to have fun. That is the reason to pick up this game. Not because of the story, not because of the gameplay but because it is fun and a little bit addictive sometimes. So should you pick up this game. If you're not tired of zombies and want to have fun, then yes. But if you expect an amazing plot and memorable characters, this is not where you should look. Then you should check out a game called "The last of us" (that is if haven't played it and you have a Playstation 3/4). But i will give this game an 8/10 cause of the high fun factor.

The story and characters are interesting and you get thrown into the world of dying light from the second you pick up the controller when GRE subcontractor Kyle Crane has to try and find a cure for the disease.

My one complaint with the game is that once you beat it, there is very little to do other than continue to bash zombies or upgrade weapons. I have not played any of the DLC's, but it looks like the developer is wanting to continue to add content.

When the night falls, however, this troubled world undergoes a dramatic transformation that gives the gameplay a new dimension. You, as a hunter by day, become the hunted. The infected increase their strength, but something more sinister lurks in the dark to begin its prowl.

Playing at night is really hard and requires a lot of skill, knowledge of the map and, of course, luck. I myself avoided playing at night, because it's nearly impossible. The devs did not lie when they said people would be frightened to play in the night.

The parkour works surprisingly well, it's fluid, it's intuitive and it's easy to jump from roof to roof, climb things and so on. Again, if you know the map well I guess you can do impressive things, win a lot of time and avoid the zombies better.

The graphics are beautifull, it's a true current gen game.

What I didn't like in this game was the fact that in the final missions it's too easy to avoid combat with the zombies, all you need to do is run, which is very frustrating and erases the difficulty of the game. Also, the final boss is defeated in a QTE sequence, which is very, very lame.

Also, I found the story very stupid and childish.

All in all it's a great game and a must have for every PS4 owner.

Many will remember that Techland the developer behind Dying Light was also responsible for Dead Island, another open world zombie game from a few years ago. Although I really enjoyed Dead Island at first I found it became boring and I never ended up finishing the game. Techland has said that Dying Light is the game that Dead Island should have been and I couldn't agree more. I've read a lot of user opinions that expressed concern that this would be another Dead Island and I'm happy to say that although they share similarities Dying Light clearly stands above. The basic story of Dying Light is that the city of Harran has fallen victim to a virus and you are sent in to receive intel. Although the story isn't perfect and there are some typical cliche plot lines I enjoyed the story compared to a lot of reviewers. Roger Craig Smith the voice behind Kyle Crane (the main character) does a fantastic job. Gamers will remember him most notably as Chris Redfield from Resident Evil. I found myself thinking exactly how he would respond before he would in situations and this added to my compassion of his situation and the characters around him.

Now I stated that this game is both fun and terrifying both of which are reasons I enjoyed playing so much. During the initial stages of the game the player is "weak" before he has undergone many upgrades to each of his three abilities trees (more on that later). This means that when thrown into the thick of things your best option is to run and to do it during the day. This is where the "parkour" style of the game similar to Mirror's Edge gives players the upper hand against the hordes of zombies. Even when not trying to avoid the enemies I found myself taking the high road, climbing from building to building to building. This is fun game to explore and I hope that if there is a Dying Light 2 this aspect is expanded upon. The best part of all the climbing and jumping is that as you do it you gain experience in the Agility tree and for each level you can choose a skill to expand upon such as a Drop Kick, Slide and many others. This further entices you to take the road less traveled as you try to gain every ability.

Sometimes however you can't always run and that's when it's time fight. Dying Light offers a few different melee weapons such as machetes, baseball bats, and hatchets among others in addition to a few different guns. Melee weapons are found randomly with differing attributes and can also be upgraded to improve their damage, handling and durability as well as add unique effects like fire or electricity. As the player gets stronger so do the weapons that can be found and this, in addition to weapons breaking over time, means you're constantly keeping a few on hand and changing weapons as you progress. I never found this to be too annoying and Techland did a great job of keeping the system balanced so it never became an annoyance, just another factor to deal with. As you fight you gain experience in the Power skill tree which grants you different abilities like a 360 degree attack or slashing down at enemies as you jump down upon them. Like the agility tree, you'll want to upgrade this tree as well and you'll be forced to do so at certain point whether you want to or not.

The last skill tree (available from the start) is the survivor skill tree, which is advanced by completing main and side story missions as well as helping random encounters throughout the game or by picking up airdrops. Abilities include traps and allowing the player to expand their inventory storage. This tree can only be fully completed by seeking out all the side missions in the game which are plentiful. From a completionist stand point you'll want to complete these as you go as the the amount of experience gained is relative to the point in the game at which you receive the mission. Alternately you can always return to these missions once you complete the game so there is never a need to complete them immediately.

The last part of the game experience is the terrifying aspect. Now this will vary from person to person to point that I've heard of some people being unable to play the game. I find that to be a little extreme and for me it was more of a exercise in anxiety control especially when you venture out a night. The game rewards you for this though with double experience point to the agility and power tree, however there are stronger enemies about and vision is obviously more limited. Without spoiling anything let me just say that the night can be a little terrifying in the early stages of the game however by the mid point I wanted to explore the darkness just for the extra thrill.

All in all I really enjoyed Dying Light and I would highly recommend it if you enjoy any combination of parkour, zombies or open world games.

Going off the same formula and streamlining certain elements while expanding on others, Dying Light is a zombie apocalypse heaven.

Jumping off from Dead Island and improving on it in every way, the gameplay is more streamlined and less clunky than the original, and movement in general feels a lot better. The new parkour system is just what the zombie genre needed, as it turns out. Adding free running elements lets you outpace the zombie hordes quickly and efficiently, and gives a new vertical element to gameplay, allowing you to scale up buildings and hop across rooftops. Despite its first person perspective, the parkour system in this game actually works really well, though of course sometimes it gets a little confused, as more than once I tried to grab onto a ledge and the game would space out and let me fall. Not that big of a deal when there's another ledge below it, but it's a pretty big one during the moments where you're hanging off 1000 story death drops and the parkour HAS to be accurate, though in those moments I have enough confidence in the engine to register all my movements and grab onto those ledges. And then you get a grappling hook later on in the game, letting you soar across rooftops and completely ignore gravity Rico Rodrigues style. Yes, please.

Like Dead Island, you have a plethora of options to choose from when it comes to zombie murder. The weapon crafting system returns, letting you create lightning machetes or flaming sledgehammers, or flaming lightning bladed sledgehammers. Weapon degradation is still a thing, but at least you can repair weapons out on the field instead of having to go to a workbench every time like in Dead Island. Besides, weapons are plentiful enough to where you don't ever get attached to any one weapon. Weapons in this game truly are just a means to an end. The guns are better in this game, as well. Shooting isn't a complete detriment anymore as the shooting controls are actually good this time around, letting you pop off zombie heads with ease, though guns for the most part are only used against the human enemies who also have guns, since there isn't enough ammo in the world to go into the zombies sticking purely with firearms.

Instead of multiple classes like Dead Island, you instead have a single character that has 3 skill trees offering different advantages that suit certain playstyles. A skill tree focusing on agility allows you to run faster, climb higher and evade the zombies easier, while also giving you tactical options on the field such as the ability to jump up over a zombie's head for a boost up and away from danger, or enhancing your parkour abilities with rolling recoveries. Another skill tree focusing on fighting ability, letting you slice, cleave, smash or crush your way through the zombie hordes, and give abilities like a head stomp that instantly kills downed enemies. A final skill tree focusing on straight survival, letting you last longer against your enemies in general, providing health buffs and regeneration, also letting you camouflage yourself with zombie guts, letting you pass through entire hordes completely unharmed. You can choose which skills you want to get as you go, but in the end you'll have enough skill points to get all of them anyway.

The story is better than Dead Island's that's for sure. It doesn't take itself quite as seriously as its predecessor did, and it helps that the characters have some excellent voice acting and writing behind them, though it's still not a really memorable story, going through cliches like a check list and having a weird Far Cry 3 moment where you're hallucinating in a drug trip because if Ubisoft did it, Techland has to do it too, apparently. Also the final boss is a quick-time event because of course it is.

Of course the USP of the game is the day-night cycle. During the day, the zombies are slow and clumsy and dumb, easily outmaneuvered or overpowered by the player. However, at night, things get much different, turning the hunter into the hunted as super zombies begin to prowl around. You don't stand a chance against these enemies, requiring you to avoid them until daylight. These zombies are fast, powerful, and can easily reach you even from full sprint and even from rooftops, as they can climb very quickly. You must be very quick and use your environment in order to outpace them if you're caught. However, the braver player will stick it out during the night, as you receive double XP in the dark. Zombie sandbox by day, survival horror by night. This dichotomy in Dying Light's gameplay is a very interesting one and is fun to play.

Dying Light is much more fun than its predecessor, and does a lot of things right. With a better story and expanded mechanics, Dying Light 2 could be a solid 10.

However, Dying Light perfects most of its former self's weaknesses, by streamlining the gameplay and taking care of the buggy/glitchy mess that DI and Riptide were.

The biggest addition to the gameplay formula is the parkour movement, which seems blocky at first, steadily becomes fluid the more you upgrade your abilities. Another notable improvement is the story; which is much more compelling and is fleshed out pretty well by the main character's voice actor. (Whom did the voice for Resident Evil 5 and 6's Chris Redfield, so zombie fans will like that!!)

Overall, the campaign along with its side quests will take you some time to get through, as the areas you explore are large and take time to get between areas. Ironically, walking on foot doesn't get that boring, unlike its predecessor, which almost forced you into zombie hordes just getting point A to B. As for the quality of the campaign, it's okay, rate the story around a 7 in terms of writing.

Dying Light is worth your time, if you like zombie/apocalyptic action games, Mirrors Edge and Dead Island. Hope you enjoy it!

The crafting mechanics are surprisingly good. However, towards the end of the game, you feel like a God. Your skills and weapons get really high and the enemies remain as there were in the beginning.
The parkour mechanics work really well. At some stage in the game, you feel like the spider-man.

The graphics feel a bit dated not many expressions on the characters faces and the dialogue is a bit silly in some occasions.
Overall, if you are into post-apocalyptic/survival games I'm confident you will enjoy this.

Dead Island.
Dying Light 2 всё же вышла, не превратившись в долгострой, и это здорово. Слышал в паркуре и боёвке изменения к лучшему. Сюжет думаю останется на прежнем уровне, но это не так важно. Думаю буду брать, немного погодя.

With that said, Dying Light is also one of the most fun, addictive and enjoyable games I've played in a while. It' just very fun to run around, easily scale buildings, whale on different types of zombies and create exceedingly more powerful weapons. The story is simple but well written, and it gives enough context for the gameplay and enough incentive to keep going. And the continuous support for the game even five years later is nothing but amazing. From it's so-so graphics to it's unoriginality, Dying Light doesn't seem like it's any good, but the clever mix of all of it's elements and their skillful execution (barring the occasional bugs galore) give the game a lot of charm and make it surprisingly great. This is a decent FP Parkour Zombie simulator. Basically, it's Mirror's Edge with Zombies. If you liked Mirror's Edge, you'll enjoy this game. But there's more to the game than just that and it both helps and hurts the overall experience.
Starting with the story, you're a runner for the good guys, the Tower people, who are looking for a cure for the zombie outbreak, while also a spy for the organization who wants to take the cure and do mysterious things to it. The story is decent enough and with Troy Baker, who is basically just printing money with all the VO gigs he's gotten since the Last of Us, giving a very well done performance, it can suck you in at times. There are giant lulls in the story and not all the characters are very well done. But it works enough to keep you invested.
The gameplay is fun but can take some time getting used too. Like Mirror's Edge before it, it can take a bit to really know when to jump and what you can and can't grab onto. After some trial and error early on in the game, things become a bit more easier later on. The biggest problem with the game, however, stems from the fact that they force you to run everywhere. There is no waypoint system in the game whatsoever and that, by itself, probably added a good 1-2 hours on the gameplay. Yes the running is fun but when almost every quest takes you to all 4 corners of the map, a waypoint system is just about mandatory. Needless to say, I stopped a number of times because I was tired of running past the same spots over and over again on the same quest.
The music is very hit or miss, mostly miss, but the zombies sounded great. The graphics were good in some spots and terrible in others, especially when you would look at zombie corpses on the ground.
The main problem I see here is that there is just a general sense of "been there, done that" with pretty much everything in the game. Dead Island did the zombie FP thing, Mirror's Edge did the Parkour, and there are elements of other games mixed in, but nothing is particularly memorable. In a few months, I don't believe anyone will remember this game for being one of the best of the year. The biggest crime that the game committed was that there's nothing for it to really hang its hat on at the end of the day. It's a decent game that won't be turning any heads.

Dying Light no question has gorgeous graphics from the beautiful sunsets to the well designed land marks; all aspects that helped shape Dying Lights diverse atmosphere.
Even when it rains it adds more fidelity to the game, DL detail is also surprisingly noteworthy to w/destruction of debris to the ability to venture through buildings, Techlands art & design team certainly did their job here.
Another cool instance is where you sometimes do a slow motion attack when hitting a critical slash which i thought was cool.
    + Great Atmosphere.
    + Epic Landmarks.
    9/10

    Sound/Music -
The SFX were great, the sound of weapons smashing into zombies was all to satisfying also the sound of crashing through a roof or ACTIVATING car traps were spot on.
Sound actually plays a big part in the game, using any gun or explosive is a risky move; which attracts all zombies in the vicinity.

Licensed music in the game would’ve been good, it’s unfortunate though the start screen music was the only noticeable piece of music i remembered in the game.
Voice casting wasn’t great but not bad either, actually it was just average; the voice actors weren’t bad but i think the poor script writing sure effected the voice acting here.
    - Average Voice Acting.
    + Spot On SFX.
    + SFX Importance.
    7/10

    Story/Characters -
The story is what lacks most for Dying Light, it is very mundane & short which is disappointing after presenting us w/this great open world experience.
Most characters were dull & i had NO INTEREST in the main protagonist Kyle Crane but the main antagonist Rais failed to impress me the most, his design seemed unoriginal & cliche.
The supporting cast was disappointing too & was probably worse; Rahim was annoying, Jade seemed more negligent then helpful & most of the other characters just seemed pointless to the story.
Despite all the above its the side missions that were interesting, they were fun & they SAVE the game from becoming a bore & even the side mission characters were more interesting and appealing.
    - Short & Predictable Story.
    - Lifeless Main Cast.
    + Great side missions.
    4/10

    Gameplay/Multiplayer -
Gameplay is highly addictive when it comes to killing zombies, the melee system is great & you have a fair amount of abilities at disposal for killing zombies which are quite pleasing thanks to the skill tree.
Sadly though i was disappointed with the gun variety & how they handle, i found myself hip firing instead of using ADS & the lack of variety in guns and top tier melee weapons disappoints too.
Blueprints keep the weapons fun though & there are some wicked mods in the game if you put time & effort into finding them.

The biggest major though is the parkour system; the parkour is really smooth and feels natural when leaping around and climbing.
You can do exciting things like leap from rooftop to rooftop too climbing a bridge & it gets even more intense at night when being chased which is very satisfying,

Multiplayer is also a lot of fun and is best played with friends making the story easy but enjoyable.
Everything can be done with friends except the end, quarantine zones & challenges are easier too.
Be a Zombie is a fun PvP feature but can be frustrating at times for both the hunter & the zombie.
    + Satisfying Melee System.
    + Fun Parkour.
    9/10

    Technical/AI -
I barely witnessed much frame rate drop, if so it didn’t effect my experience throughout my play throughs but there is a few problems like survivors getting stuck, the mission log not functioning well in co-op, all the little things that i witnessed throughout my gameplay.
The A.I. wasn’t too bad, Rais men were relatively smart and even zombie runners were unpredictable for a while but i’d say the AI works fine.
    + Steady Frame Rate.
+ Good A.I. 8/10 Trophies/Challenge/Replay Value - Trophies is bugged so be warned, as for the games difficulty it all depends on how you play overall. Its a moderately difficult game but if you’re playing w/friends then the game can be quite easy. The replay value is great & expected from a open world game, you have statues, notes and blueprints all to find and i easily spent 80+ hours on Dying Light. -/+ Easy Trophies. + Moderate difficulty. + Vast replay value. 7/10 Overall - This game is fun for any type of gamer, but if you really love your story driven games then this is not for you but if you are a Dead Island fan, love open world games, finding collectables and high action then this is a definite pick up for you. A great buy and definitely worth the MONEY despite the cons. Final Rating - 7.5/10

The flaw? You are an errand boy and most of the things you do, especially in side quests, is go to point a, to point b, then back to point a. There is also no fast travel so I felt that the traversing got to be a little tiring. The concept is good but it is limited. However it is fun for awhile and I would recommend the game.

Dying Light is a very different type of zombie game, especially when compared to Techland's previous zombie franchise Dead Island. Ditching the campy over the top fun of those games, Dying Light goes for a more dark, dreary and serious take on the genre, while also taking many elements from other games. Ditching the campy over the top fun of those games, Dying Light goes for a more dark, dreary and serious take on the genre, while also taking many elements from other games. With Mirror's Edge inspired parkour, the climbing mechanics of Assassin's Creed, Dead Island like combat, exploration elements of Far Cry, and even some RPG elements from Fallout, Techland has created the most standout game in the zombie genre to date. However, that's not saying very much.

When it comes to the combat, it's largely reminiscent of Dead Island and Dead Rising. Weapons have a limited amount of uses before they break, and you can use blueprints to craft new and improved weapons using supplies you scavenge in the world. In the beginning of the game, you'll feel incredibly underpowered, with zombies feeling like sponges and humans that feel unfair and cheap. It forces you to use your resources intelligently in the beginning, and as you naturally progress and get more powerful, the moves and damage you can do feels like something you've earned from your struggles.

The gunplay doesn't fair as well as the melee unfortunately. Gunplay still isn't very refined, with a stiff iron sights mechanic and bullets that straight up miss what you're aiming at, gunplay falls short of the typical shooter. Luckily, the game usually doesn't require any real precision from you.

The parkour mechanics are fun, and climbing works very well. It takes a little getting used to, but you will get the hang of it, although I'll never understand why Techland thought a sprint meter was a good idea. Aside from that, you can scale most of anything, though there are some occasional inconsistencies. The grappling hook is also a cool add-on, if it weren't for the fact that it's auto lock is unreliable about half of the time. Overall, the sprinting is good enough that it actually makes me grateful that there's no fast travel.

There are a variety of zombies, including spitters, Titans, Virals (recently turned and still retain human semblances), giants with clubs, boomers and even screeching babies. None are exactly unique, but there's enough variety to stop it from getting stale. The scariest of them are definitely the volatiles, powerful zombies capable of parkour but incredibly weak to light, only appearing in dark places or at night.

Speaking of which, night is truly where this game comes into its own. More powerful zombies appear and at times your only choice is to run, but Techland smartly encourages you into going outside by doubling you XP. Fighting, running, and accomplishing goals all attribute to three primary bars of experience, with each having their own respective trees of skills and upgrades. At night, the amount of experience you get for doing all these actually tempts you to leave your safe zones.

The most impressive thing for me was this game's side content. Not only is there a massive amount of stuff to do outside of the main campaign, but all of it is well thought out and fun. There are multiple side quests which feel like their own self contained stories, consisting of multiple objectives and story arcs. There's quarantine zones which require you to enter 8 unique areas and pick up drops or clear out the zombies inside. There's even small things like air drops where you have to race to an crate full of supplies before any scavengers get to it. There's also safe zones where you have to seal off an area and clear the zombies inside, rewarding you with an area where you can sleep, store your items into a portable stash, and even respawn when you die. What's great is that all these quests have meaningful rewards which make you want to do them.

Dying in this game works like multiplayer, causing you to respawn at a checkpoint or safe zone without resetting any safe zone. The caviot is that dying causes you to lose all experience points you've been gaining since you last used them.

Overall, the story is pretty weak. Despite the amazing world and atmosphere, Dying Light fails to make you care about its people. Moments that are meant to have impact or meaning fall flat, the main villian is a cliched stereotype that only serves to annoy you, and the ending refuses to wrap up the story purely to sequel bait.

The worst thing about this game by far is the challenges. About half of them require you to accomplish insane objectives that the game doesn't even provide you the skills to do so. It's in these challenges where the game's mechanics are revealed, and they become huge rage fests. Admittedly, they are clearly multiplayer focused.

As much as I want to praise this game, I can't ignore the issues. Whenever the game is all about mindless fun, it's great, but whenever the game requires any skill, the mechanics in place do not provide that. Combine that with a weak narrative, and Dying Light is fun but not remarkable.

I didn't go into it expecting much, but I was more than pleasantly surprised. First of all the graphics (I'm on PS4), are extremely pretty, with foliage that sways in the wind, and lighting that looks gorgeous no matter what time of the day in game. Next is the game play. The free running system has breathed new life into the zombie genre. Its fluidity mixed with the tactics you can use make for some interesting situations to get into or out of. My main problem with the free running system would be the tower climbing. It feels like it was tacked on and it feels a bit difficult to climb. The combat, which is largely melee, is fine tuned to feel fluid and hits feel like they connect in the best most brutal ways. Last, but definitely not least, is the soundtrack. The ambient music, the action music, it all works beautifully to create the true ambiance of a zombie outbreak. Techland has made a very solid zombie game, with a few hitches here and there. Definitely a solid 7/10, and I would recommend this game to anybody with a PS4. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel that this game does not offer a great amount of variety and has a lack of new boss zombies. There are the normal zombies, runners, nightmares, goons, spitters, boilers, boomers, and then the demolisher. Unfortunately the demolisher only appears around three times in the game unless you go hunting for one.

The co-op aspect of the game is fun and allows friendly competition between you and your friend. You can challenge each other throughout the game on various missions like climbing tower races and kill the most zombie in a time limit. You can also play through the single player story together with single player cut scenes. They do not allow you to play the final level together and show that there is no reason why you needed to be split up.

Story wise this game is seriously lacking with boring characters and deaths of characters you meet maybe twice. The deaths feel meaningless and try to make you feel sad with off theme music and emotional out bursts from Crane. The mission that take you through the story are mostly diverse and fun to play including my favorite mission called The Pit. While playing these missions you will probably glance over the story surrounding it.

While not hunting zombies or playing main missions there are tons of side missions and other things to try in the city including clearing out safe houses, climbing towers, racing to air drops, and free running races. There is also the be the zombie DLC that alows you to invade a friends single player game and fight at night over the zombies nests. I have a problem with this only because it is such a small mode it could have been included into the game and DLC.

The game has enjoyable gameplay and good graphics even though it suffers from a terrible story with a poor ending. The story has very little emotional attachment to any characters. It does have a wide variety of weapons and crafting new ones. So i give this game a seven out of ten and declare it a good game but not at full price.

This game is a pleasant surprise. This is especially true after the fiasco that was Dead Island. This game is full of pros and cons, but the pros certainly outweigh the cons.

Pros - Character movement control: the parkour system and verticality make you feel like a total badass. As your jumping from building to building, avoiding the zombies sprinting after you and grabbing at your ankles just as you hoist yourself onto a roof is oh-so-satisfying. This system puts the subtle fear and subsequent "whew" moment back into a zombie game. As more and more zombies flock to you the more noise you make, you have to make the tactical decisions to stay and fight a little longer or GTFO by any means necessary!

    - Weapon customization / crafting: Options, options, and more options. You can make just about any classic zombie fighting weapon you can think of, and them some. All while able to add cool features like fire, electricity, and toxin to the weapon. Weapons will break after too much use if you don't fix them, making scavenging for more weapons a must. This only adds to the immersion that this game offers. However you can only repair items a certain number of times, which can be a little annoying, but it doesn't hinder gameplay.

    - Co-op: This game is at its best when you play with friends. Working together to take out large groups of zombies, or separating to accomplish missions at various points on the map gives the players a real sense of teamwork and need for each other. This is especially true when one player goes down and needs help. You can trade items you find and create all kinds of strategies to take on large zombies, big groups, or map hazards. Definitely play with a friend when you can.

    - Map / Environment: The map is huge. It can take 15 minutes sprinting and hurdling everything in your path without stopping to cross it. It is full of buildings, typical urban infrastructure, and environmental diversity. The graphics are not bad either. The other piece of this is the day night cycle. All too often when this is part of a game, the cycle feels too fast. "Day" lasts about 5 minutes in real time. That's just garbage. This one is much more solid and fair. Scavenging around during the day and keeping an eye on the time is a great mechanic and makes you feel a sense of urgency as you run out of daylight and the real "baddies' come out at night utterly destroy you. Get to a safe house!

Cons - Story: This is what plagues zombie games. It is laughable. No memorable characters, no surprise plot, and not that interesting of a bad guy (aside from the zombies).

    - Actual mission objectives: all of these feel like you're operating a switchboard. Go here and flip this switch, then go there and flip another switch. HOLY S*&%T this whole world is operated by switches! It gets a little annoying.

    - Lack of character customization: This one is pretty straight forward. You don't get to do anything to the character you play as aside from slap on painfully clothing sets. Some even have flags! Woot. Additionally you really never see your character from any other view than 1st person. It just doesn't allow you to get attached to who you are.

    - Lack of gun options: With lots of melee weapons, the devs just got lazy with the firepower options. there are a few skins for a pistol, and a few skins for a assault rifle, and that is pretty much it. I'd like to see more here.

All in all, you will have fun with this game. If is a fresh feeling to an old genre. Worth full price? yes, especially when playing with a friend. Pick this one up and go to town pulverizing some Z's!

Another year, another zombie game, but how does Dying Light fare in this crowded genre? In this review I will give my opinions and ratings for the following: Gameplay, Story, Sound, Graphics, Last Impressions. This will be followed by final score for the game.

    Gameplay: 8/10
    - For the most part, the parkour system in Dying Light is actually done surprisingly well. There is a clear feeling of momentum and pretty much everything you'd expect to be able to climb, you can. The combat is good. Weapons have some weight to them, and chopping limbs off is fun for a while. With that being said, the gunplay in the game is poorly done and feels very overpowered. Once you get your hands on a gun of any sort, the game loses any suspenseful feeling it once had.

    Story: 6/10
    - A cliche, over the top story is what you expect in a zombie game in today's day and age, and that's exactly what Dying Light gives you. The story features countless characters that you won't care about, and a main villain that seems as though he's trying his hardest to imitate Vaas from Far Cry 3. The plot twists can be seen from a mile away and the ending gives no feelings of resolve or satisfaction.

    Sound: 7/10
    - Classic zombie game sounds here. Nothing special, but nothing to really complain about. Most voice acting is done well enough, though some is not so good. Weapons sound okay, and chopping apart a zombie sounds how you'd expect it to. No notable musical moments, not that you'd expect a musical going into a zombie game.

    Graphics: 9/10
    - This is one of the areas where the game shines. Graphics look excellent, and for the most part the game runs very fluidly. The views you get from the higher building tops (especially in the 2nd area) are marvelous. Zombie look gross as you'd want them to, and some of the ones you encounter can be quite terrifying at first. The day/night cycle looks really good.

    Last Impressions
    - Dying light is a good game, but no more than that. I played most of the game with a friend, and if it hadn't been for the co op, which is quite a bit of fun, I may have not even finished it. The game doesn't throw anything at you that you wouldn't expect (story wise and mechanically) but can still be some quick fun and is a good pick up and play game. This game gets a 7 from me, but that is based off of my co op experiences, when played alone I would give the game a 6.

    Final Score: 7/10

    Graphics 9/10, Gameplay 6/10, Voice acting 8/10 = Overall 7/10
I will say they have improved since Dead Island. But this game is sort of a fetch quest with a twist. Multiple quest will tell you to go turn something on, go get this, go do that. The game is in no way bad, but it lacks something to make it very good. The parkour mechanic at times feels more a like a gimmick than anything. My

My biggest complaint though is the combat, weapons will break far to easily for my taste, and it will take longer than it should for a zombie to die. Overall I enjoyed the game, and co-op made it a bit more bearable.

Dying Light is an intense thriller in which the protagonist, Kyle Crane, works to save the doomed residents of Harran. Running the streets at night is a video experience which will get your pulse racing. In addition to the night survivalDying Light is an intense thriller in which the protagonist, Kyle Crane, works to save the doomed residents of Harran. The was marketed as a survival game, especially after the sun goes down and the zombies get faster and more aggressive and the viral zombies appear. Running the streets at night is a video experience which will get your pulse racing. In addition to the night survival modes the story attempts to really ratchet up the intensity and draw you in, sometimes succeeding, more often failing.

Dying Light is also a beautiful game and the graphics are 1st rate. The game has everything you would expect from an open world, including side quests and ways to waste time, however the game lacks the feel of Skyrim or GTA 5 where you could spend hours of game time doing nothing. In many ways that is a good thing. This is the zombie apocalypse, wasting time watching TV or playing cards or golf would not make much sense.

The game is driven by the free running parkour mode, and its well done. Kyle can climb virtually anything although the game does have some glitches in that there are things that Kyle can't climb that it feels as if he should be able to. This glitch does not ruin the fun though. Its incredibly fun to free run, climb and jump through the streets of Harran. The main method of survival is to avoid fighting (although at some point you will eliminate a zombie horde by yourself with only a sword just for the fun of it) and many times it involves making very fast free running choices while moving at full speed. Make a mistake and Kyle is eaten by a horde of zombies or virals.

With all the good described so far and the sheer fun of being a wall climbing zombie killing machine it probably seems like the game deserves better than 7 out of 10 as a ranking. The reason for the lower ranking is that the story is limited and the ending is not as fulfilling as it should be. The writers attempted to create a powerful bond between Kyle and certain characters early in the story so that certain scenes would be more emotionally impactful later. It fails. The hoped for emotional link never occurs. The player just never gets really invested in the characters (say as in The Last of Us, with Ellie and Joel) to care or to have the plot twists leave an emotional impact. Certain characters, like Brecken, just seem incomplete.

The main villain is Rais. While diabolical and certainly evil incarnate, he won't be memorable as a video game character. His henchmen largely blur together. Rais as a villain, like the story, just falls a little short of being great. He falls into a wide category of good, but not great, video game villains.

The main premise of the story of itself, while decent, fails to be great, or even above average. Its a good story, with some predictable actions and behaviors by government and quasi government agencies. The story has the requisite plots twists and drives the action toward a final confrontation. The stories biggest failing though is the final confrontation. Without spoiling anything the final confrontation is simply lacking. From the players perspective and Kyle Crane's, the ending is satisfying, but the manner is not. From a story perspective lose ends are left. While the general ending is clear there are multiple significant lose ends are left untied for the player to fill in as they see fit.

Dying Light is a good game. Its above average and if MetaCritic allowed me to give half points it would get a 7.5. It is an enjoyable game with the depth and breadth expected of an open world game. The story is solid, the voice acting is ok, its not great but its not terrible. However its not a great game. Its not a great game because it falls short of what it attempts to be. The story, the villain, the hero, the attempt to grab the player and emotionally invest them in Jade, Rahim, Brecken, Kyle and make you feel for them, care about them and their plight, all falls a little short.

Dying Light will scare you. It will be intense. Your pulse will race. The zombie baby scene will creep you out, maybe for a couple days. The parkour free running is challenging and fun. Its worth the cost to own the game. Just don't expect it to be a GTA 5 or The Last of Us level game. Its a good second tier effort.

    Good Night/Good Luck

Dying Light is what Dead Island should of been. A more action free slowing combat game. The story was nothing too special, but overall I did enjoy it. Especially going out at night.

Although the narrative is awful, and I also found the side quests to be bland, everything else about this game is great. Some of the most fun I've had in a co-op game.

I haven't played the multiplayer but i think it's pretty much you play with four friends and do side missions i think some story missions as well and you can also play as the hunter which is a very fast zombie at night. It's an okay game im waiting for the upcoming dlc which gives you a cross bow and let's you ride a dune buggy. AWESOME!!! Expand

Zombie games have flooded the market for quite a long time and still keep going today. To see Dying Light as "another zombie game" for me is a mixture of going through the motions and simply turning off my critique switch and just enjoying cathartic fun. It definitely is fun, there's a surprising amount of stuff to do in the zombified city of Harran. Parkouring over buildings and obstacles is very fun and its often overlooked nowadays in games where you have to glitch up the side of a mountain or building to get to your destination or have some sort of predetermined path to go on. Dying Light doesn't do this and instead allows you to freely explore the city at your own pace and progress.

So why would this game get a 7/10? I want to stress again, playing Dying Light is fun and I would consider a 7/10 a good game, but not a great one. There are significant problems with Techland's game that makes it difficult to praise it for what it lacks more in. The game can be incredibly buggy and enemy AIs can be underwhelming when reacting to your movements. The plot that the game focuses on is really cliche to the point it's cliche swiss cheese. Name a cliche point in a film or book or show, Dying Light has it, which is a shame because given the music is a 70s and 80s theme that placed emphasis on action over plot in the films at that time this game could have been far better. What I mean is the setting should've been the 70s/80s instead of modern day.

The durability system is fine, but the need to drop a weapon you like after running out of repairs can be very heartbreaking. The game does have a survival system in place to establish its rules on clearing out hordes and scavenging to survive, but many zombie games have done this to a far greater effect and as a consequence has only dulled the sense of enjoyment when scavenging the city. The repetition is quite taxing after the first few hours go by and the quests and missions you go
on don't really have much emotion or weight to them. They feel as interchangeable and deaf as the next one.

I like the enemy variety and the day/night cycle is a really great gamble for players to try to get more stuff at the cost of being killed easier on the surface, but the losses are so minor that it doesn't bother me because you don't lose the items you get, only experience. Later on the devs would update the game to make a mode that makes death more meaningful but really Dying Light doesn't make dying have any weight, rather it just spawns you back to your checkpoint area instead. The co-op is really nice, the dlc is underwhelming and weak, the pvp mode is bad and really the amount of fetch quests and backtracking can be really taxing for me to want to get back into for a second run.

Dying Light isn't bad by any means, but it had come in a point in time where zombie games were exploding with popularity and numerous titles that the game suffers almost from a identity crisis. It plays a safe way and doesn't try to be different, but can be enjoyable if you like something to do.
