Driveclub had serious potential ... but ultimately not much more than potential as the game just doesn't measure up to all the grand marketing blurbs. After all the problems for the first 2+ weeks, this game is lucky I'm giving it a 4.
If you have PS4 and XB1 as I do, do NOT buy this game. Get Forza Horizon 2. Maybe 'The Crew' will beat FH2.

If you are looking for one of the most boring, generic games ever this still isn't good enough for you. Think Forza, but easier with less cars, and less tracks, all with a boring, bog standard online mode. This game starts by showing you the controls and then dropping you into a race on a pretty hard track. As someone who doesn't play a lot of racing games, I didn't even know what some of acronyms (DRS and KERS) so I had very little idea how to actually control the vehicle. It was a terrible enough beginning that I deleted this game.

I would not recommend this to anyone who isn't a hardcore racing game fan. It's not going to bother to show you how to play.

The game doesn't offer much except for okay graphics and effects and the worst car handling ever on a console. The idea was nice but the realisation is terrible. Don't waste money or time on this game.

Jogo não inova em nada, estilo jogo de celular com estrelinhas para desbloquear, apenas tem som e gráfico bonito do resto, servidores após meses do lançamento ainda apresenta problemas.

    Fiasco de 2014!

This game is terrible. They would have to pay me to play it again.

If you don't believe me, ask yourself this... why would PS+ give a decent major game away for free?

Driveclub is a PS4 launch game that tried to bring something new to the online racing genre but ended up being a huge disappointment.

Driveclub was delayed for more than a year and its eventual launch was botched because servers didn't work and weather effects were missing. The developers brought servers back online, added the weather effects, and afterwards supported the game for a year with dozens of free and paid for DLCs. When everything calmed down though, what game did we finally have in our hands?

Driveclub was meant to revolutionize the racing genre, by bringing people together in Clubs (think of clans or groups) who'd collectively race, progress and challenge other players and/or Clubs. A new social racing game for the online age. But the execution failed, because I never felt I had to be in a Club to progress. After winning 5 career tournaments (15-20 races total) I stopped playing because I wasn't having fun, unfortunately.

The driving itself is a mix of simulation and arcade and is fine, but the races are played in walled environments. I know it's not an open world racer like Forza Horizon, but older Gran Turismo games had more freedom than that. When driving well you earn points for the Club, but if you crash with other cars or against the environment, or exit the main road, you lose points.

The graphics are supposed to be Driveclub's main selling point, but they also hurt the game. I read reviewers raving about the "amazing graphics" but I wasn't in such an awe as other people for some reason. These graphics had the side-effect of forcing the developers to target 30 fps instead of 60. But what impressed me for sure were the weather effects like rain, fog and snow, as well as the day/night cycle. Yet again, these effects can completely obscure your vision (no matter what camera you are using) and make you crash the car.

Driveclub is a game with many pros and cons, but I think it's a failed experiment.

In my personal opinion I think drive club is a unique high quality game which is great, but in my opinion I would like the game even more if you could drive around freely and customize the cars like for example wrapping the car different colours, customizing wheels that sort of stuff. It is great game on the other hand but if you could do more on the game it would be greater. Drive club is a game which is great fun and exciting as you have to complete mission in order to unlock more cars this makes the game more challenging. A good thing about the game is that you can also connect the ps4 steering wheel and enjoy the game more. Expand

Shutdown servers mean buying 1/4 of a game. Wish I could've seen what was here. No compelling reason to play. Very limited vehicle selection, no customization, small number of tracks. I only gave a 1 because it didn't pull a GT7 with microtransactions

It's simply one of the most dissapointing Racing games i've ever played. Graphics are okay and i like the concept behind the game, but steering and drive control are simply horrible designed. That the servers are down and 90 percent of it's features are not longer avaiable is also a bad joke. Thanks god, this game never gets an sequel.

Driveclub is a must-have for any PS4 racing fan. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys a good arcade racer. It’s challenging, but teaches you how to overcome every single one. Because of this, Driveclub is far more rewarding than its peers. This coupled with fantastic graphical fidelity, impressive sound design, and adrenaline-inducing sense of speed makes Driveclub one of the best racing games available on current-gen systems.

When you're on the track Driveclub is stunning to behold, but it's held back by a lack of event types. [Christmas 2014, p.74]

The sense of speed offered by Driveclub reminded me of the brilliant first GRID and I was having a lot of fun until I realized that cars are indestructible. Whether you stroke a wooden fence or smash into another vehicle at 300 km/h your car drives exactly the same afterwards. [Dec 2014, p.66]
