    Dragon Quest Heroes 2
    Fun But Repetitive
A kind was murdered and you set out to travel the 7 kingdoms as your preferred character and class and set out to get to the bottom of it... This is a party based action RPG, you start out with 2 characters and along your journey you’ll run into more characters to join you on your journey... A lot of them you have to beat before they’ll join you

    Fun But Repetitive
A kind was murdered and you set out to travel the 7 kingdoms as your preferred character and class and set out to get to the bottom of it...
This is a party based action RPG, you start out with 2 characters and along your journey you’ll run into more characters to join you on your journey...
A lot of them you have to beat before they’ll join you though, which is a nice chance to see their stuff in action and choose if you’d like to swap them in as your party can only hold 4 characters at a time…
But each character feels unique and uses different weapons that can be bought in a little hub town
Which is where you’ll spend your time organizing your goods, crafting accessories for stat boosts, and playing through dungeons on line if you’d like
This is also where you swap your members and prepare for battle
The combat here is fairly swift.. But not as satisfying as it could be...
Sort of like the dynasty warriors games... there are enemies everywhere…
defeating these enemies will give you experience to level your character up...
Every character seems to level up at an even pace as well as inactive party members... and you dump your skill points into new moves and stat boosts in a skill tree
Combat here is very easy to pick up and super simple...
You’ll pull off cool moves by just mashing the light and heavy attack buttons
There are also special attacks you can use that use up magic points, and when you build up your super meter you basically go super saiyan and are invulnerable and have infinite magic points until it runs out
you can also alternate between your other party members at any time to use their special attacks too..
And eventually you’re even able to do tag moves as you swap
you also have healing gems and herbs for tough battles that replenish when you enter a new one…
Every once in a while characters will also drop coins when you beat them
These coins summons in that monster for some assistance
And each coin has its own unique action, some will even turn you into a giant monster for a short period of time
You can really only use them until you go to a new are though.. so there is no point in holding onto them even though the game advises you to…
That as well as your super meter depleting when you go to a new area is definitely a bit annoying and feels like a waste sometimes…
at moments id be holding on for an epic fight that never came and my time was just wasted slashing these a bit too spongy enemies…
And the game stays this way throughout…
The formula is fairly predictable with a few puzzly moments thrown in there to break the pace a bit..
But it’s a lot of get to the point on the map and level grind if you want…
its decently fun but definitely gets repetitive as again enemies do feel a bit spongy, causing the progression to feel a bit sluggish at time...
The story and characters are intriguing though and are good enough to pull the player through the end…
I did start getting bored on my journey in Dragon Quest Heroes 2..
But this action rpg is enjoyable one that I feel Dragon Quest Fans will appreciate... new fans can have a decently fun time with just game as well…
But the repetitive nature and spongy enemies may discourage you from finishing this 30 hour journey
I Give Dragon Quest Heroes 2
    a 7.5/10

    - Some missions are extremely annoying. You will have to defend some NPCs at times. If they die you will fail the whole mission and will have to return from the beginning. The game's artifical intelligence is extremely dumb and these NPCs keep jumping in the hordes of enemies, which makes it all the more annoying. You have no command to make him back off or something like.

    - The game has many characters, making most of them misused in the plot and uninteresting. Besides being useless. It would be much better if the game focused only on the two protagonists and some other character. At first the game was doing it right, focusing only on desdemona and the two main characters, but then the bunch of generic characters began to appear and I just did not care about anyone else there anymore.

    - The monsters are too childish, it looks like they were made for a cartoon for 5 year olds. Ridiculous.

    - Skill Tree useless and brings virtually no real change in your character.

Despite these cons, the game has its advantages, for example, the characters are well detailed and the graphics are well made. Combat is addictive and that's what motivates you to continue playing.

Not as good as the first game, but decent.

The story and character interactions are relatively bare in this second installment. Most of the character interactions now take place during battles, so it's hard to pay attention to them while you're busy killing things. So unlike the first game, I knew very little about these new characters. A benefit to that is that unlike the first game,

The story and character interactions are relatively bare in this second installment. Most of the character interactions now take place during battles, so it's hard to pay attention to them while you're busy killing things. So unlike the first game, I knew very little about these new characters. A benefit to that is that unlike the first game, there's no "power of friendship" nonsense going on here. It would have seemed especially weird here since only a few of the characters seem like friends (due to the overall lack of interaction).

And if you thought the story was generic in the first game, be prepared for an even more generic story here. It starts off good enough, but quickly looses steam due to a dwindling amount of story exposition. And like in all Dragon Quest games, the story is believable and competent (meaning not full of plot holes), even though it's aimed at kids. Not much to say about the plot other than you're saving the world because you're the chosen ones, of course.

Combat is mostly the same, but the open world makes it much less interesting. In the first game, you regularly fought 20+ monsters at once in small areas, which was great fun. In the sequel, you're in large open areas and you mostly encounter groups of 2-4 monsters scattered about randomly. Big groups of 20+ monsters are still there, they're just rare this time around. Also, there's more of a focus on fighting single strong special monsters. Given the large number of AOE attacks your characters have, these drawn-out single-monster battles are just not as fun.

Compared to the first game's segmented world, the open world in this game seems smaller overall, and is definitely less interesting. The location variety isn't as good as the first game, but is decent enough. As for things to do, there's really only chests to find, most of which don't contain anything interesting. So you'll primarily use this big open world to get to the next instanced battle, fight the occasional monsters (primarily for the game's quests), and get nearly-useless items out of chests. There's nothing else to do in it. Oh and the big kicker is when you get to a particular phase in the story, they make you walk all the way through that open world all over again with no teleporting. And somehow I ended up with less playtime in this game than the first game. They were really trying to pad it out to get the standard 40-hour JRPG playtime.

And then we come to the final battle. It seemed like it was supposed to be the battle before the final battle, because it wasn't very interesting, and not grand at all (like in the first game).

This isn't a bad game, but every aspect of it is just less good than the first game.

Annoying music, bland empty world map, boring characters, unbearable dialogue, meaningless story. Gameplay and visuals are not bad but thats it.

For a sequel made pretty much on the fly (in just a year!), DQH 2 is a surprisingly decent game. Plus, the English localization is top-notch.

Action RPG in a very colorful design where you will fight the large armies. It's nice, but it can quickly turn tiresome. [Issue#274]

Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is undoubtedly a step in the right direction, but it doesn’t feel like a big enough leap. There are minor gameplay improvements that result in a more unique and refined experience, but at it’s core the game is still struggling to pull itself away from the Dynasty Warriors series.
