    I don't normally buy games on day of release, but this one I did, so first impressions after about 10 hours play. Its a pretty game, but pretty in the 'shiney plasticy claymation' graphics style so common on the next gen consoles. I dont know if its a next-gen tech thing, but I'd prefer realistic to claymation (or 'bound in flame' style cel-shaded) any day. Story is OK. but then I thought DA 1 and 2 were great, so I'm almost a guarenteed DA3 story fan -lots of the characters/nps/location are recognisable which suits me fine. Character classes, skill trees, progression mechanics, combat mechanics are also very familiar to past DA players. There also the companion interaction with dialogue choices prompting the 'x likes/dislikes you more' reactions. Thats great. Lack of player character face/body customisation bugged me. Like 'Bound in flame' its a choice of limited presets - maybe its a next gen 'limited character model' thing. I wanted a human character with white hair - so the presets left me with one with green lips ........... ah well, at least it matches the green magic. A lot of people have bigged up the sidequests. Well so far its the same old 'go there, get this, speak to them' stuff. Theres a bit of sidequest 'build a camp'/spread your influence' for your faction metagame in there too like the army recruitment in the previous dragon age (or camp captures in Skyrim).     This game is unplayable. My save files got corrupted twice now. I am not even sure I want to start for the 3rd time. If you bought the delux edition - DON'T download the DLC's. They are the reason my saves got corrupted.

It feels like Diablo but with a different visual viewpoint and with a party rather than solo. There's lots of dialogue but none of the quests or drama feels like it means anything at all. And the combat is not about much more than clicking X. In fact, just    Zzzzzz. That's my review.

    I really thought, based on the way people talk about Dragon Age, that this game would be a lot deeper. It feels like Diablo but with a different visual viewpoint and with a party rather than solo. There's lots of dialogue but none of the quests or drama feels like it means anything at all. And the combat is not about much more than clicking X. In fact, just about every action is not about anything other than clicking X. YES I KNOW you CAN press other buttons, to execute alternate attacks based on skills you gain as you play, but you don't have to in order to win. That's the problem. All those extra attacks and spells are no more useful than a new pretty outfit in an MMO. They are unnecessary. No strategy required. Hold down X during a battle and run all around the battle zone. You might die a couple of times, but it won't take very long to win. In Skyrim I felt more like I was the character and that I was a part of the events happening around me. Discovery felt like discovery. Dragon Age; Inquisition feels extremely artificial. I can't even swim. Try to swim in the ocean and you hear a screaming sound (it's supposed to be your character; why would she scream in the water?) and then the game resets with you just next to the shore again. There are slopes that are not very challenging but for some reason you can't climb them. Small walls you inexplicably cannot climb over, even though any 7 year old in the real world could. So, basically, beautiful visuals, but the environments don't feel open world-ish. Instead I feel somewhat channeled artificially. There are tons of barrels and other things that you cannot open. They are just decoration. You can only open select ones. You cannot loot everyone you vanquish. Nonsensically their weapons and armor are not available to loot unless the game decides to give you something, and what it gives you is not really related to the animal or bandit you killed.

    Ultimately, the game is fun in a mindless sort of way, kind of like a very elaborate Tetris. For a much more involving RPG try Skryim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Arena. The combat in Arena and Daggerfall is more interesting because as you wave your mouse around, your character waves his/her weapon, so you feel connected to the combat - no just hitting a single key. Arena is very old and has crappy graphics by today's standards, but it is gripping. I think it's free now and legally; just google it.    … Expand

    Game tried so much but didn't completely succeeded in everything. Graphics were great in 2014 but something was lacking. Not the best Bioware stuff

    The one word I can think of to describe this game is decent. Nothing, in my mind, excels at what it does. The story is pretty good, the characters are pretty good (humorous), the gameplay forces you to be tactical when the difficulty spikes and the variety of characters allows you to tale different approaches to gameplay. My biggest gripe with the game is the fantasy world itself. It feelsThe one word I can think of to describe this game is decent. Nothing, in my mind, excels at what it does. The story is pretty good, the characters are pretty good (humorous), the gameplay forces you to be tactical when the difficulty spikes and the variety of characters allows you to tale different approaches to gameplay. My biggest gripe with the game is the fantasy world itself. It feels generic. Bland. There is much to explore but I felt no desire to. The npcs that occupy the world have no character and most of what there is to see is wilderness. Very rarely that you'll run across a village or town and when you do there is really nothing to see of interest. There are a lot of side quests. I mean a lot.     But let's talk about the gameplay. The combat is great. You can pause a battle and have (almost) full control over the situation. Choices actually matter and have consequences. And the game world is gorgeous. It's a full fledged open world with rich details that is just beautiful to look at.

    The character customization is the best that I've seen in an RPG so far (pretty sure PC elitists will correct me on that). You can craft and modify gears, which comsumes materials. Depending on what kind of materials you use it affects the bonuses of each crafted gear.

    The main cast is a mixed bag. I like the cast from previous entries much more. (Some characters from previous entries will make a comeback.)

    One thing I really hate about the gameplay is that you cannot longer assign points to your attributes when leveling up.

    But overall I'm having fun. For those of you who wants a more polish experience you might want to wait for a patch or two.    … Expand

Even though I'm new to the Dragon Age series, I read a lot on the lore and I could understand most of the stuff that's going on in the game since it's very story-driven. This is one of the few games I played that have story choices with major changes and consequences.

    The graphics are vivid,    Over 80 hours into the game now and felt it's the best time to review it. No spoilers, promise! Even though I'm new to the Dragon Age series, I read a lot on the lore and I could understand most of the stuff that's going on in the game since it's very story-driven. This is one of the few games I played that have story choices with major changes and consequences.

    The graphics are vivid, not too dull nor bright, but just right. The combat is fluid and allows users to perform combos. The tactical menu is an amazing feature, allowing players to set up how their Inquisitor and his/her companions should attack stuff. It's not too grindy and it's a nice change from RPGs that force players to kill monsters endlessly in order to reach a certain goal, be it a level or a rare item.

    There are a few grips however that brought down the score just a tiny bit. Obviously there will be glitches but there are certain game-breaking glitches as well. I really wanted to romance a certain character but a weird glitch prevented me from doing so, and I hadn't realized it was a game-breaking bug until I looked it up, many hours later. Also, after completing the story, there's this feeling that the game is hollow, empty and there isn't much to it anymore. Every companion I talk to doesn't have the conversation wheel anymore. Even more so, the companions themselves and some furniture disappear every once in a while. I don't know if this is a glitch, but good thing I have a save before the final fight.

    Even with the glitches, it's still a must have for any RPG fan. This game, in my books, is also a GOTY contender.    … Expand

    A decent game , the story was quiet boring although gameplay was quiet fun. The combat is quiet clunky and slow from time to time. The graphic was great and is one of the only reason that im giving it a score of 7. The number of content is quiet decent although it does get repetitive after a while. They could be more innovative with the multi player. Still an acceptable game and worth the price.

    I was a fan of Dragon Age series and was so much hyped for this game but it punched me hard.. This is a typical business game I would say, it's fixed in a model and has nothing creative. They say the world is huge, true, they say there are a hell lot of things you can do in the game, true, however, all of those are repetitively boring. I think I've almost lost my faith in Bioware..

    Inquisition is a tremendously vast game, providing more than 100 hours of content sprawling over an impressive eleven areas throughout the countries of Ferelden and Orlais. This is quite the departure from developer Bioware’s usual RPG formula, which most commonly includes 4 major areas in addition to the starting tutorial world (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins) sometimes including smaller areas for vignette style side-quest exploration (the Mass Effect Series). Additionally, Inquisition is the first console era Bioware game to exceed an average playtime of over 70 hours (Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights being the only other games in Bioware's catalog to do so).

    Adding to the overwhelming amount of game-play that Inquisition has to offer are the visuals and Dragon Age: Inquisition looks stunning on the new generation of consoles (Xbox One & PS4) as well as on PC. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Xbox 360 and PS3 releases of Inquisition. The amount of texture popping that occurs in the previous generation consoles in near impossible to miss and, while it doesn’t take away from the overall function of the game, presents a very underwhelming feeling to those who choose to play this game on older hardware.

    While Dragon Age: Inquisition certainly doesn’t fail to impress, it does feel streamlined compared to the other titles in the Dragon Age series and while there is an emphasis on exploration, the content within each of the vast areas are very similar to one another and have little relevance to the plot aside from leveling your characters. These things start out as minor issues but, due to the length of Inquisition, the repetitive aspect of many of the side-quests and certainly the crafting system (I can only collect so much elfroot before losing my already fragile grip on reality) can really bog down the player experience, especially on the back-half of the campaign, where the narrative loses some of it's steam where it should be doing the opposite.

    Dragon Age: Inquisition is a wonderfully crafted game that boasts incredible visuals and a narrative that is truly engaging...when you're playing a story mission that is. As much fun as Inquisition can be to play, I can't shake the feeling that it's just a single player MMO (and that is far from a good thing) so while it makes great strides in technical ambition for both Bioware and Western RPG's as a whole and does well with making the player invested in the characters and world that it has crafted, it falls just a little short.

    *Editor's note: the DLC released for Inquisition during the first year of it's release definitely makes the narrative feel more engaging (Trespasser in particular) and while this adds positively to the experience overall, just makes me wish that the core game emphasized on it more.    … Expand

    Purely amazing upgrades to the Dragon Age series. I've played em all, and this is the best one. Big open world maps, lots of intertwining story arcs, lots of back to the root RPG mechanics. One of the best RPGs made to date.

    Multiplayer built around the single player game. Pros good storyline, great companions. Cons the lack of arcane warrior, poor usage of maps, single player is way too short. Lack of a tutorial.

It is your typical Bioware role playing game, you have a crap ton of dialog the main focus in these games are usually so, then you have a open world to run around in etc. This game is nothing like skyrim, or a Bethesda game, the world is not that complex their is no Night or day cycle etc. If you ever played Neverwinter nights you wouldFirst off I want to say, this game is fun..     Their is allot of action and some people may not like all of the dialog at times it can get cumbersome. None the less it is a good rpg game.

    I am a little concerned about the value. I pre-ordered my copy for the ps4 downloading the the weapon dlc etc. On 2 occasions The DLC disapeared at start up and I could not load my save games. I had to contact E.A each time to get a code to use to re-download the dlc because it is not in the playstation store yet etc. in order to continue playing my save.. I ended up deleted the dlc weapon out of my inventory and I am praying that fixes it. This game has some glaring technical issues some which force you to reload the game and some that can be game breaking if you cannot contact EA and get new codes for your dlc weapons. My suggestion to people that get this for christmas or later NOT TO USE THE ANY dlc codes until this has been fixed or you can invest many hours into your game and not be able to load your save because your dlc just vanishes...

    Bioware will get it patched and E.A customer service did not hesitate to help me and give me new codes..    … Expand

    The short of it: I enjoyed playing DA:I, but found many elements of the game weighing down on the overall experience. Bioware made a huge game, which they may have tried to throw everything and the kitchen sink in to; much of the game comes across as uninspiring, repetitive, and clunky after the time it takes to complete an average play through. After the 40 hour mark, I began feeling like the game had lasted long enough and that I just wanted it to end. There was still so much I could do, but it just didn't seem like it was really worth it.

    I'm left thinking, had Bioware cut down on a lot of the filler then they may have had more time to commit towards building a more engaging/fun experience (with less bugs!)

    I had really high expectations for this considering I had played & loved the previous Dragon Age games. At first I was completely happy and it was giving me everything I asked for. The graphics are amazing and shows off next-gen in all its beauty. Dialog is equally impressive, hundreds of lines for every character that can be easily missed. How much did they record?! Along with that, the voice acting itself is obviously amazing. BUT, I've played around 70 hours so far and have pretty much discovered all locations and feel as if I'm coming towards the end of the story. Now there are so so so many side quests it's unreal. But I'm not interested in them anymore. They feel so similar to each other it almost feels like you're repeating the same thing in a different location. Kill that guy. Collect this. The main story is totally forgettable, nothing great at all.I love the game, but after a week of playing Ive become bored and considering CEX are offering £40 for a trade in, in cash, I think I'd rather get that money and buy something else. Unfortunately, that being said, the game still has issues, many of which are glaringly obvious flaws that hinder the experience and prevent it from being truly great. While I can't deny that DragonDragon Age: Inquisition is an excellent threequel that unites the disparate gameplay philosophies of it's two predecessors and FINALLY establishes the core identity of the Dragon Age franchise. Unfortunately, that being said, the game still has issues, many of which are glaringly obvious flaws that hinder the experience and prevent it from being truly great. While I can't deny that Dragon Age: Inquisition is a massive RPG with a generous wealth of content , I can say that it is an experience defined by design choices that feel awkward and counterintuitive.

    When it comes to story, dialogue and quest design, Inquisition is the definition of a mixed bag. You assume the role of the self-insert hero, The Inquisitor, who can save the world because of their unique ability to close Fade rifts and stop Demon-geddon. To truly do this, you must assemble the Inquisition - a fantasy taskforce of badasses whose job is to broker peace and unite nations while staving off the oncoming demonic invasion.

    While the overall premise and narrative setup may hint at the 'most epic chapter in the Dragon Age anthology', in reality Inquisition's story and dialogue feel laboured, plodding and dull. It takes a while to get things moving, but even during Inquisition's more 'exciting' moments, the execution of these moments feels underwhelming and uninteresting.

    As for companion characters and their personalities and dialogue, they too suffer from the same underwhelming quality of writing. Even the side-quests you take part in to attain these new companions feels uneventful and oftentimes uninspired. I know it's wrong of me to criticise the creative talent responsible for providing me with sources of entertainment, but these are the same people who produced the Mass Effect trilogy, and while that could be boring at times, it still had plenty of interesting characters and story moments.

    On the combat front, Inquisition wonderfully marries the meditative pace of Dragon Age: Origins with the frenetic action of Dragon Age II, but with less than perfect results. For me, I found Inquisition's combat to be plodding and frustrating when compared with other 'smaller' more action oriented games that had better, more satisfying combat. To perform basic attacks, you simply hold down the attack button. While I have no issue with this per se, I do have an issue with enemies not reacting to getting hit by attacks. This results in battles looking like clumsy, awkward encounters with everyone swinging their weapons around with scripted animations. On top of this, there are no options to block, parry, dodge or sprint which further compounds my frustration and dislike with Inquisition's combat.

    With it's collection of sizably large open world-like maps, exploration in Inquisition should feel exciting, but in actuality it's not. While your characters can jump, they can't ledge grab and the world's design feels dated. Furthermore, your 'trusty' mini-map in the bottom corner of your screen in next to useless because it is mostly transparent and only highlights enemies and points you in the direction of quest objectives, acting more like a compass than a mini-map. What I really don't like about the mini-map is that it provides no helpful information on the topography of the land or whether you're following a path or what to expect when it comes the orientation of the world. This is by far the worst mini-map I've seen in a videogame and makes me wonder if Bioware got lazy and took shortcuts with its design implementation.

    Another point of criticism is the menus and the inventory system. For one thing, the menus feel convoluted and try to mimic the 'Mass Effect look'. Secondly, on the character screen, the font colour and type is all wrong, and the text boxes are awkwardly implemented (plus all the RPG jargon gives me a headache - just give me well explained stats and I'm good to go). When it comes to inventory, Bioware should have allowed players to carry more stuff. With a game as big (an obvious understatement) as Inquisition where players will pick up thousands of items, there needs to be A LOT of inventory space. This is one of my biggest frustrations because I would constantly need to clear out my inventory every 10 minutes.

    In all honesty, I think that Inquisition is a good game that is absolutely buried beneath bad design choices that hinder more than they help. I can see what the game is trying to be - an fantasy adventure of epic proportions - but what holds it back are things that make the experience more boring than it actually is. Maybe one day I will come back to it when I have finished every other game and appreciate it for what it is because I won't be actively thinking to myself that "I could be playing something MUCH BETTER THAN THIS".

    In the end, I think Dragon Age: Inquisition defeats itself with the immense scale of its own size and ambition, further compounded by poor design choices and underwhelming writing.    … Expand

    Good - fear not DA fans who have yet to play this, it is miles better than the hugely disappointing DA2. Graphics are nice, story is good with the overall quality of the voice acting far above the vast majority of games, what we have come to expect from this and the Mass Effect series. Combat and character movement in general is much improved and is more visceral than the ludicrously weightless, cartoon feel of DA2. Like all good RPGs, there is a huge amount to keep you occupied.

    Bad - The mini map, oh my god the mini map! Don't know how they have done it but it really is the worst, most useless mini map in any game I have ever played. Be prepared to constantly check the main map because the mini map is pointless. Tactical cam can feel a bit clunky and 9/10 times isn't really necessary, ditto lock on. If you're anything like me and like to complete the vast majority of side missions, clearing an area of the map can become a little tedious, but only a little. There are still a few bugs, most of which I have came across are cosmetic in nature. The story is decent but not as interesting or original as Origins, nor are the characters. Probably one of my biggest issues with the game is the ridiculous lack of amror variants. RPG's such as this should have hundreds, instead there are only around 3 or 4 different looks for each character. Note to developers : you can never have 'too many' sets of armor. Even Dark Souls 2 doesn't have enough and it has at least 20 times as many as Inquisition.

    Verdict - Not perfect but a solid RPG which fans of the DA series and the genre itself will appreciate. It kind of plays like a cross between Skyrim, Dragons Dogma and DA and has addressed most of the issues from the awful DA2. Not as engaging as DA Origins but if you're looking for a new rpg to play and like the games I mentioned above, you won't be too disappointed.    … Expand

    7.3/10: It's better than DA2, not quite as good as DAO (DA1).

    The least important aspect, the graphics: good enough but a mixed bag. There is a lot of shine to surfaces and characters but terrain textures are bland and unimaginitive. Gameplay: clunky. The characters and terrain mix poorly, they feel very separated partly due to mediocre animations (especially walking and jumping    7.3/10: It's better than DA2, not quite as good as DAO (DA1).

    The least important aspect, the graphics: good enough but a mixed bag. There is a lot of shine to surfaces and characters but terrain textures are bland and unimaginitive.

    Gameplay: clunky. The characters and terrain mix poorly, they feel very separated partly due to mediocre animations (especially walking and jumping animations) and combat is uneven and static.

    Sound: Best part of the game. The SFX are convincing, voice acting is great and the music is superb. If only the rest was as good as this.

    To finish with the most important part: lore/immersion: hampered by the mediocre gameplay, besides that it is clear a lot of time has been put into it. It helps enormously if you've played DAO and DA2 cause the game does not try to introduce the world in any decent way to new players. The entire beginning of the game is bad: beside a 1 second explosion in the menu (yes, the MENU!) there is no good build-up to the genesis of the Inquisition. It feels like in the time one would go to the toilet the entire inquisition is all of a sudden an organisation known to all, even though it didn't even exist in the introductionary phase. It took me 17 hours (according to the time shown in save game) to get any real feeling into the DA:I world, opposed to the instant immersion DAO offered.     There should be more things I like or dislike about this game after I complete it. As you can see, I compare a lot of the pros and cons between DAO and DAI because DAO is the best in the Dragon Age series and DAI is like a step forward and two steps back. I really want to like this game more and giving a score of 7 is me being generous. If you've played DAO, you will be disappointed by the lack of content DAI offers.     My personal opinion is if you are a fan of RPG's like me, then I do highly recommend that you try out Dragon Age Inquisition. It brings a lot to the table and has at least 100 hours of meaningful content to entertain you.     PROS:
    -You can run through the game on casual or normal and the combat will be pretty easy so you can focus on the characters and story. However you can also crank it up to hard or the brual nightmare mode (no thanks) for a ridiculous challenge that will make you think a lot more. It satisfies any level of gamer.
    -Yes the story is a bit banal but it serves the purpose and I enjoyed exploring the worlds and hearing the character dialogue and banter which made up for the story. You have a good amount of choice in who you hate on, or who you end up seducing, which is always fun.
    -Huge open world keeps the experience fresh and there's A LOT to explore. You can continue to change up your team to suit your surroundings and quests. I don't agree with other reviews that it's boring or has too many fetch quests.

    CONS:
    -You must use tactical camera in hard and nightmare mode, but unfortunately tactical camera is not polished the way it should be for its required use. I'd say 60 % of the time it's all good - but in tight and awkward spaces it can be very frustrating to maneuver and gets wonky.
    -Yes there are frustrating bugs and most of them for me revolved around the tactical camera. I had the camera warp ALL THE WAY across the map on the Storm Coast, dragging my entire party with it and placing them out to sea. Wasn't even touching a button.
    -I don't love the static NPC model you find in this game within towns. I'd like to see more living breathing towns to interact with.

    Overall DA:I is solid and I will continue to enjoy the last 15 or 20 hours I have left. It could have and should have been at least an 8 or even 9 but the bugs and unpolished tactical camera are pretty egregious. My personal enjoyment of the game keeps it in the green at a 7 and I think this is the right direction for the series.    … Expand

    Great Graphics and free roaming. Still seems a little to pre programmed in the overall story line while selling itself as every game unique. I did not find it that unique. Still a great game to play. Hours of fun.

    A really good game, ridiculous amounts of content... Clocked up around 100 hours playtime i think...

    Narrative wasnt great tbh and i found the difficulty not to be particularly challenging (i played with a party of four mages and with barrier equipped on each i basically didnt get hit)

    Graphics were ok, but not amazing...

Navigate to the exclamation points, pick up a quest, find it on the map and complete it for a little reward. This system works as delivery mechanism for content. The problem is the content it delivers usually has nothing to do with winning the game. In fact, you could probably skip more than half of it and still beat the game. It is also used ad nauseam which is another problem with these systems.

    In this case, the Bioware developers took a known system from a popular MMORPG and reused it without asking themselves if the system was what brought people to the game. I'll give you another example. The crafting collection process.

    In this game, you collect resources much like you do in WoW. A herb or mining node lights up and you interact with it to obtain it. Each. And. Every. Craft. Mat. You. Need. Must. Be. Looted. By. Hand. Things like this are a good example of how WoW can be a great game in SPITE of some of the things it does which cannot be confused with fun. Nobody likes farming nodes in WoW.

    Note how many WoW players get banned for running quest bots, collect bots, fishing bots, BG bots, etc. If people are getting banned for botting it odds are pretty good it isn't a fun part of the game.

    I miss the original Dragon Age: Origins. It felt like a true successor to the Baldur's Gate franchise. It could have been even more epic but they were on the right path. They've fallen in love with other games and have retooled some of the worst features in those games to incorporate into their work. That's tragic really. Dragon Age Inquisition is a BEAUTIFUL game to look at and the story really isn't all that bad. The problem will always be in how the content is delivered. Dragon Age Inquisition does a shameful job in that regard.

    In a future iteration I'd like to see them return to a smaller, tightly woven storyline with sub plots that are all wound up before the final ( main ) plot is.

    I'd love to see them throw this material collection system into the trash where it belongs. It isn't fun running around clicking on mine veins. Give me an option to drop a flag and have my army of peons do it for me. Or make it part of the war table.

    I'd love to say every one of my 80 hours playing this game were a blast. The truth is they weren't because a good portion of those hours were spent trying to access some node on the map to close out a quest that didn't matter in the greater scheme of things.

    This game cost me 88 hours of my life and i loved most of it.

    I realy enjoyed the vibe this game has. The storey is great... although the ending is a bit lack luster.
    The characters in this game all have personality, and the interaction feels great.
    This is a great game to escape the grind of real life.
    It did got a bit repetative, and thats why i dont give it a 8.

The combat was poorly done and they butchered the tactics system which made the first two games fun. Honestly this game was my most disappointing game of 2014. Go play DAO or hell even DA2 since it has a better story and sidequests as well as a functioning gameplay mechanic.

    When I bought the game I was really hyped with it, I was expecting an exciting and rewarding big opened world, but I was really disappointed when I saw it worked like GW2: Zones wich you can travel to and explore them. They're quite big, but not enough.

    The problem with this game is that sooner or later you get bored of exploring maps and not having a real opened world, I've tried to finish the main story on three different occasions and I haven't been able yet because I like to explore and achieve 100% before I leave the zone.

    I feel that I enjoy it when I'm playing, the personal problem I have with it is that I get bored and pass to an other thing.

    Someday I will finish it for sure, but no clue when will that be!

    I also tried out the PvP... didn't like it at all, I'd rather play TESO for that, it was much more fun. The PvE combat feels a little bit repetitive and you stay there waiting your skills to cooldown, auto-attack sucks.

    The crafting system is soooooo confusing, I don't know who did it, but Good Lord! It's awful! And the skill trees are a no brainer, it makes nonsense that you can upgrade everything...

    Regardless of all the problems and bad things it has, you'll enjoy playing it, PvE! Seriously, don't play PvP in this game.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dragon Age Inquisition is a good game! It has all the components it needs to be a great one with minor tweaks. The Dragon Age games best feature, has for me, always been the story and Inquisition doesn't fall short here. To be able to see Morrigan again, AND MY KID, was the best moment of the game for me! Never had a strong connection to Varric, so to have him on my team wasn't as cool.
    Now, I said a few tweaks could make this a great game, and I'm thinking of three things in particular. Firstly, the tactical camera SUCKS! One of the best things of the first two games has been broken and burned. It's more or less useless here, but then again, you don't need to use it at all. The game is very easy to play through without any trouble, and that's another of the game's flaws. Origins was hard! Even on normal it was hard. Spells and abilities had a bigger impact on how battle would go. Crowd control was also a lot better in Origins and DA2, but Inquisition battle has a flow to it that the other games don't. This might be because you don't need tactical camera and pause the battle to know you'll win.
    Second big flaw to me is that the numbers are simply too big! When I an enemy archer takes longer to kill than the enemy tank, something isn't right! The first ten levels in the game doesn't have this problem as much as the late game. Then having two enemy archers can be annoying as f*ck! They simply won't die. As some of the other reviewers have pointed out, it's like a MMO, where the numbers get so huge after a while it seems just silly!
    Third flaw is the tactics option... You know, being able to chose what spells to use when and such? Not in this game! The AI for your team is really bad in my opinion. They run in circles, don't use their abilities, chug their potions like alcoholics and don't have a clue what to do. In the tactics menu, you get the choice of attack who the PC/any other party member is attacking or defend PC/any other party member. That's it.

    As bad as these three things are for the player experience, the rest makes up for it! The world is fantastic! I'm a lore freak, so to read all the lore in this world makes my head spin. And where the previous games had four dragon fights in total, this one has 13 or 14! And they are fuuuuun!
    I wish they had more choices though... The ones that I do, especially during the main quest-line, doesn't matter to me. If you don't like Hawke, you won't care if he/she dies in the fade. BUT Dragon Age Keep fixes this with some handy tricks from your world state, so it kind of works out for the best.

    Total score: A strong 7! The three things that I mentioned, pisses me off while I play, but you'll make it through the game anyway. And you'll want to. The story is so damn good! And don't hate on Solas! He's cool.    … Expand

Wonderful visuals and a far more refined combat system, which is exactly what I was hoping for. What I didn't expect, on the other hand, is that almost none of my choices would actually make a difference until about half way through the game. I didn't buy Inquisition for the combat or the visuals. I love that they've been improved, but I bought this game for dynamic storytelling, something which Origins handled with such care. Something I thought would be stronger than ever in this game by default, but so far I don't think a single choice that I've made, aside from maybe choosing my species, has affected anything at all. I've played through to where I am multiple times and everything that I do leads to the the same dialogue and outcome. The changes are so slight. So... Has it been disappointing? Yes, of course. Origins introduced me to the actual role playing elements from the very get go and they were subtle, handled with care and I actually felt like I could change something. I guess that's my main problem with Inquisition. Not once through my fifty or eighty hour playtime did I feel like my character was truly mine or that the world was mine to mold or shift. It doesn't feel like much of a role playing game to me. Its awfully strange to pick up the box of the game that I just purchased and think "I... I'm seriously unsure if I want to play it again".     Beautiful world, interesting characters, great details, good adventures. However, bad game design and mechanics, why keep pressing the button to find item every step I go? Story is so poor, and doesn't make sense. Crafting and micro manage each team member is a put off. Not fun and not enjoyable after a while of playing.

    Vast world, great combat mechanics, and great character. Main mission is a bit short but the side missions are abundant and fun. However, this game doesn't intrigue me as much as Skyrim or Witcher. The reason lies in the kind of boring combat system and not-so-fun world roaming.

But i think it wasn't very well implemented, the game is incredibly repetitive, getting really boring after 4+ hours, with a handful of good skills and powers, a lot of side-quests, but almost all of them with no depth at all (kill 10 sheep... great,I really didn't see much of what people said about this game...     Slow start (the first open region is the worst), then it really picks up and then kinda worsens at the end again. Cool RPG mechanics, graphics show its age, but the gameplay and combat are still fun. Massive FPS drops during dragon fights and few crashes, which shouldn't really happen 7 years after release.

    In game money is very tight and crafting seems like a grind for resources. Yeah as if I a buying MT's fts EA/Bioware.

    I kind of miss the camp-fire intimacy of DOA. Not enough character interaction between all the gameplay padding. The new characters are mostly likeable. The combat scaling is so WTF fun. Going into some areas led to I was running for my life seconds later. So no hand holding when exploring lol.

    Not really interested in the rivalry between the Templars and the Mages. It just feels like a old tired out recycled plot after DAO. The green stuff in the sky and the mystery around that was interesting, because it was “shiny” new.

    The edition of the war table and I looked at that and was thinking what is the point? Yeah Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition are about great wars, but they primary APRGs not a war game. Bigger is always not better if it is done in a loose sloppy bad grindy way.

    I did enjoy the story in part. I liked the usual Bioware party chat between characters and the fun flashy combat, but not the grindy quests and the obvious padding travelling from A to B. Technically has some issues. Weird graphic glitches with the occasional rare BSOD in my first completed run of 130+ hours.    … Expand

    It looks great and i enjoyed it but you can really start to see the impact of EA here, there is a strong main quest and the characters are compelling but the amazing world they built has little to do in comparison to games like Witcher 3. Lots of fetch quests and combat is over before you can employ most tactics.

    Combat seemingly felt the heat of Frostbite, with the ability bar being reduced from all the abilities you can possibly hope to use in the game to a measly eight slots. While this may seem a small change, one can quickly see the consequence: the combat is MUCH faster. Having so little skills to choose from, cooldowns are kept low. This effectively renders the already clunky tactical camera a pointless feature, as you will end up smashing the same buttons over and over again with no real thought put into how to approach a given situation. This doesn't even highlight the fact that the often wide-open terrain that an open-world lends itself to, does little to add tactical flavor that the series is known for.

    The environments are varied and beautiful in their own ways, even by contemporary standards. Yet, while these would be nice to look at, one will quickly discover the lack of any real content within these picturesque landscapes. Meaningful objectives to make the areas feel alive are few and far between, with boring MMO-style fetch quests being all too common.

    And, perhaps the most disappointing of all, the story itself falls short as well. The central plot struggles to make itself feel important in the grand scheme of things. The subplots that surround it are nice on their own, but I couldn't help feel as though the threat that was supposedly lingering underneath the surface was an annoying afterthought rather than the impending doom that it should have been.

    The characters serve to salvage a rather lackluster story. While not necessarily the best cast in a Bioware game, it was one of the most stark reminders for me that I was playing a game by that studio. Characters develop, have emotions, goals, and motives -- often making it known should they disagree with your decisions. While not necessarily as nuanced in interactions as in Dragon Age's previous two entries, it still makes for a pretty good bunch of characters to adventure around Thedas with.

    In the end I must say that, for Bioware, it was a let down. I went in expecting to return to a world that once made me want to stay by virtue of its fascinating story and interesting gameplay. Instead I got a middling story, barren countrysides, and lacking combat all with a nice paint job. It is still a well put together modern fantasy RPG experience, but for a game that was trying to be at the pinnacle of that mountain, Dragon Age: Inquisition leaves much to be desired.    … Expand

    Some of the character's interactions are pretty cool, and the DLC Tresspasser is mandatory and a must play. But overall there's too much dull content via collectibles and generic sidequests. Lacks a proper villain.

    I'm fashionably late to this discussion seeing as how I didn't get the game until Christmas and didn't have the opportunity to play it until after my birthday two weeks later. At time of typing, I have completed every trophy in the game (sans the Nightmare mode [and, by proxy, the Platinum] one; the Persuasive one is bugged although I have 15 agents) and have collected every mosaic,I'm fashionably late to this discussion seeing as how I didn't get the game until Christmas and didn't have the opportunity to play it until after my birthday two weeks later. At time of typing, I have completed every trophy in the game (sans the Nightmare mode [and, by proxy, the Platinum] one; the Persuasive one is bugged although I have 15 agents) and have collected every mosaic, bottle, landmark, blah blah blah. I was at 104 hours when I finished so I really don't get why people are saying they have 150+ hours and still aren't done.

    I digress. I have several legitimate concerns about the way DA: I padded out content. I see a lot of people saying "if you don't like it, don't do it!" but the problem with that argument is the fact that the fluff-to-content ratio is extremely lopsided. When I completed the game, I still had 273 Power left and nothing to use it on. That right there tells you there is an EXCESSIVE amount of fluff that does little towards the progression of the game's story itself. Likewise, since the game opens up many of the areas early on - right after Skyhold, really - it's possible to go through and hit a wall with character progression within the first 30-ish hours of the game. By the time I went to the third major story mission (Halamshiral), I was wearing the very gear I would be wearing for the remaining 50+ hours of gameplay. This progression ceiling does not only apply to the story progression but also to the fluff as well. When I finished collecting all the shards and opened the final door in the Oasis, I was rewarded with gear that was markedly inferior to the stuff I had crafted or found 10+ hours prior. This doesn't even touch on how poor the context is behind most of these side missions. Most of it boils down to: Go do this because Inquisition.

    The War Table is a great example of poor design and fluff in action. Multiple 5+ hour missions that grant minimal reward. Even some 12+ hour missions! Here's a practical example: I sent Josephine off on a 15 hour mission of negotiations in northwestern Ferelden. The next day when it was complete, I got a four line paragraph explaining what happened, a whopping 106 gold and an Amulet of Power. Woooooooo. Likewise, the War Table is a poor substitute for materials gathering. If I send Cullen out to gather minerals, it takes him 15-ish minutes (give or take, depending on agents) to come back with 6-8 minerals. When I gather minerals from a node, I gather anywhere from 1-4 per click and there are almost always 2-3 nodes in close proximity. In the same 15 minutes, I can easily gather three times as much. Plus, you cannot send all three of your people to gather from the same resource or region, thus making gathering via your War Council an even bigger slog than doing it yourself.

    I found a lot of the character development quest lines and conversation trees banal and paper-thin, not anywhere close to the same level of character development found in other Bioware titles. The Cassandra/Varric character development seemed to the most well fleshed out while Iron Bull and Sera were the most entertaining to keep in the party for random banter. But, by the end, I felt no real attachment to any except the ones who started the quest with me (notably Cassandra and Varric) and doing the ally quests wasn't all that satisfying. If anything, it felt like an obligatory BioWare staple of throwing a whole bunch of allies at the player just because they could. Assuming the full party is acquired, did the player really need 3 warriors, 3 rogues, and 3 mages, in addition to whatever class the player character is?

    The main story arc was decent enough, if not slightly generic, and at least it kept me invested. In looking back, I could have finished the game around 30-40 hours and felt satisfied, perhaps even moreso.

    Beyond the fluff issue, gameplay is often clunky, especially if you play melee classes on harder difficulty level, and the game pushes the player into FAR TOO MANY menu screens for inventory and character management.

    I don't regret purchasing or playing the game and I gladly give it a 3 out of 5 (6/10) overall but I see little compelling reason to play it again. The characters hold little interest and the outcome will be mostly the same (only very small changes in the ending slide show) regardless of choices made.    … Expand

    I did a lot of side questing like almost all of the side quests I was getting bored with the game and decided to start the end sequence. All the choices I made, getting cole an amulet, helping French chick get out of debt, in the wrap up were utterly and completely ignored.
    I got what faction I sided with the power struggle with the king queen, I got one other faction and a minor detail about the inquisition.
    I don’t play 40 hrs to get 3 small narratives some of which were not really of significance.

    Definetly unworthy of a ten let alone the critics 9.    … Expand

    Not to mention the completely uninspired villain story.

    Those of you rating it 10 clearly don't know or remember or have played games of real quality. This has length and breadth but no depth.

    I fear for ME4 and if this sells well it will only confirm to EA that they are on the right track.

    Charmless, dull, repetitive. Doesn't hold a candle to Skyrim, which is a MUCH better game. If you love interactive storytelling adventures, and adore watching endless poorly acted cutscenes, this is the game for you. Otherwise you'll get sick of it fast.

    DA:I is overwhelmingly ok. The characters and story are bland. The combat lacks any bite or real hook to it. I found myself wandering aimlessly through the (beautifully rendered but generic) world, spamming spells and attacks. I never got invested in what I was doing and at times it was unclear what I was SUPPOSED to be doing. Ten hours in and I was really missing the gripping story or interesting characters of something like Mass Effect or KOTOR.

    The game is serviceable but it's void of any personality or life. I think the combat would work better on PC because controlling a bunch of characters and powers is not all that intuitive on a controller.    … Expand

    Boring combat systems feel acceptable on PC, but are tragic on ps4.
    Only one character holds any actual charm, and the world feels overly open, causing the narrative spine to get lost or side-saddled. There is enough there to make plenty of playable hours, but certainly not a memorable experience.

    + crafting system is useful and provides regular upgrades
    ~ but huge swathes of gear look identical,
    - are visually jarring and do not 'fit' with the game's wider aesthetic

    + landscapes are beautiful from a distance
    - but fall apart under scrutiny and lack attention to detail

    - character animations are utter garbage

    ~ character designs are wildly variable, from 'actual living sentient creature' to 'hideous abomination' - which would be fine, but the way the game treats these characters makes you think it's not at all intentional

    ~ live combat works fine but is uninspired and not very fluid
    - whereas tactical combat is a big step down from Origins

    - custom tactical patterns for party members are very limited

    ~ host of easily exploitable bugs
    - accompanied by an equal number of entirely bizarre, immersion-shattering ones

    - main story is dull, and while fun to play through is not at all engaging

    - generic LOLSOEVIL villain that it's very difficult to care about

    - dialogue is stiff and doesn't feel 'real'

    - typical awkward new-Bioware sex scenes

    + long enough that you won't feel hard done by at the end
    ~ but some sections drag on tirelessly, especially early on

    Bit of casual fun as long as you don't expect too much from it. Worth picking up if you can find it in a bargain bin somewhere - pretty sure I saw it for £22 in Tesco recently.

    I should point out that I avoided reviewing DA:I on release because I was butthurt over it not being a worthy successor to Origins and Mass Effect, but I've calmed down a bit now and have no problem giving it a 6.    … Expand

    game gets boring pretty quickly. The game need cooler and funner to use abilities, specially on the warrior class. the Templar, Reaver and Champion classes are not fun to use at all. My rating for the game play is 2/10 but as far as graphics and story line go I'd give it a 9/10. This game comes across as a failed attempt to try and duplicate skyrim.

I also didn't like how, say, a Templar Knight enemy has crazy amounts of health, when if you played a Templar knight, you would be at a disadvantage because they made the game a party dependent game. I realise you don't "have" to take a party with you, but you're pretty much screwed if you don't. The only way to solo any group of enemy in that game is if you went with the Champion line on warrior.

One of the many gripes about DA2 was the constant reuse of areas and how overly small the whole game was, so they decided to make vast open spaces and then.... fill it with awful fetch quests. Collect x amount of shards, collect x amount of stuff for party members. It was like playing an mmo on your own.
    I didn't finish the game, it bored me to tears. I got quite far into it, I think I was near the end but simply couldn't be bothered with the rest of it. I found the side quest "The Bloody Baron" in The Witcher 3 far more engaging and better written than the main plotline in DA:I.    … Expand

    1. Why won't my party members drink their potions? Why does Solas not drink lyrium potion? 2. Why won't my party members use their bombs? 3. Why won't the mages stay out of melee range?     2) Окружающий мир 10 из 10. Куча пещер, погодных явлений и разнообразных локаций делают игру поистине увлекательной и заставляют игрока не откидывать в сторону геймпад. Побережье, пустыня, горы и все населяющие их - всё выполнено восхитительно.

    3) Хороший сюжет, ради которого я и проходил игру. Нет, увлекательным его не назовешь, это как книга, которая нудная, но очень интересная,которую читаешь по страничке в день. Клише занимают большую часть сюжета. Неоч.

    Dragon Age Inquisition was a game I was looking forward to. Upon the announcement, I followed news of its production carefully, and I loved much of what I saw. After my distaste with DA2, I was hoping this game would bring the series back to the standard Origins set. I was wrong.

After my distaste with DA2, I was hoping this game would bring the series back to the standard Origins set. I was wrong.

    The main story is decent at best. But first, in order to understand what is going on, you need to have played a DLC for Dragon Age 2. Now, the game is set up with standard go here and do this. But each quest is plagued with some questionable writing (Here Lies the Abyss is dreadful in its writing). Choices often don't matter much by the end of the game. You end up succeeding in most cases against the antagonist, who is not fleshed out, and never feels like an actual threat most of the game, and doesn't really drive the plot.

    The cast. BioWare is known for having strong characters. And some are truly good. Varric makes a return, and his life is expanded upon beyond his role in DA2. Cassandra appears again this time as a companion, and is often brash, but supportive. Solas, an Elven apostate, is a character I have to give praise to as one of BioWares most complex and well written characters. I don't want to go into each character, but the companions and advisers are pretty good on a whole, with a few exceptions (Blackwall and Sera). Already mentioned was the antagonist, who is Corypheus, the antagonist from the Legacy DLC of DA2. With a cool back story, he really could have been crafted into a fine villain, but now remains completely forgettable.

    Side quests are often boring, context less, and a chore to complete. NPCs have no real depth to them, no sort of backstory for us to piece together really. A lot of the content is collecting stuff to fill out or just finding objects, all of which is dull. Not only that, but in order to progress through the main story, you have to do some of this. Power is required to do main quests, so players at some point have to deal with this garbage, most of which is not good, thoughtful, engaging content. Some cool areas and some interesting bits of lore can be found, but not much else.

    Gameplay. You have your traditional three classes; Warrior, Rouge, and Mage. Each offer different ways of playing the game. Tactics are almost nonexistent (despite BioWare saying this would be a more tactical game), and most fights require you to just spam you talents or spells (which you can only have a loadout of 8 instead of everything you have unlocked) without actually coming up with a plan. Most talent/spell trees don't really add new exciting abilities, instead just increasing damage or providing a larger range. The Ice and Fire spell trees are extremely similar, just as different elements. Healing spells has been completely removed (save for one spell from one specialization tree), as has the entire Entropy tree, which makes zero sense lore wise and it just taking away features for no real reason. You no longer have control over your attributes, with them being assigned by the game. Skills are yet again absent, but have a form of replacement in Inquisition perks and recipes. The established system from Origins has slowly been moved away from, with RPG elements being removed for a more streamlined game. I absolutely hate this.

    Dialogue. The dialogue wheel makes a return, and things remain the same. Top is typically nice, middle a more funny or charming, and bottom is direct or aggressive. I know a lot of people like this, but limiting players to the usual three responses and telling you exactly how things come across feels like spoon feeding to me. You can unlock special options depending on your race and any dialogue perks you have unlocked. Often times, however, the options you pick don't have very meaningful results.

    The Map. No longer do we have the exact same maps of DA2. Now, we have large ones, some completely massive. They look great, absolutely. But the are often empty, devoid of any real meaning. This goes back to the side quest problem. Often times, the maps offer nothing in good content to actually be worth your time exploring. One area is a massive desert that doesn't have anything going on in most of it.

    Of course, there are positive aspects to this game. The cast is for the most part strong, with voice acting being solid, and in some cases great. The game looks great as well, and BioWare deserves credit for that. But when you start to examine areas beyond that, things get worse. Ja, man kann man sich für 30 bis 80 Stunden in einem schier endlosen Freischalt- und Vervollständigungsfluss treiben lassen: Es gibt so viel zu bekämpfen, zu befreien, zu pflücken, zu basteln und auch zu entscheiden – nur dass sich dabei wenig auf die Geschichte auswirkt. Die potenziellen Erkundungsreize der schönen Landschaften werden früh von der Spoilerkarte erstickt und vieles wird schrecklich offensichtlich für Sammler verteilt - das Auffinden von Geheimnissen per Richtungsimpuls ist das Dämlichste, was die Kanadier bisher entwickelt haben. Das Kampfsystem schließlich ist nichts Halbes für Actionfreunde und nichts Ganzes für Pausetaktiker, aber bietet immerhin Komboreize in fulminanten Gefechten. Man wird letztlich in eine vollgestopfte Fantasywelt entführt, die einen für Wochen mit all ihrem Klimbim zum Surfen an der Oberfläche animiert. Da noch eine Scherbe, hier noch eine Sehenswürdigkeit und vielleicht noch einen Riss schließen. Die wirklich guten Rollenspiele sind wie Tauchgänge.     The story and characters are good, not great, but still good. And it managed to keep me intrigued throughout the game. The world also had a good variety with a lot of different places to explore.     The combat is like a mix between an action game and a strategic game but it’s not a good mix in my opinion. I feel like it should choose to either go back to the way Dragon age Origins handles combat and make it more strategic or make it a full-fledged action game. At the moment it’s like the game has an identity crisis and don’t know what it is which gives combat a weird and unsatisfying feeling.

    And a lot of things in this game is simply boring, unfortunately. Even getting new loot is often boring. The main problem in that area is that most armor look the same, except for color variation. And to top it off the armor that you get don’t look epic in the slightest and in a fantasy game that is a big mistake.

    But the main problem I have with this game is how it somehow feels like a single player MMO. There is a lot of quests to do but most of them are boring and repetitive and they lack variety and you don’t get invested in them. It simply has a massive quantity over quality approach which makes a lot of the content boring. If I compare it to Dragon age Origins there were not as many quests in that game but the quests were much better and much more enjoyable. You could ask the quest giver questions concerning the quests and you got involved in it before you even started the quest. But in this one it’s almost as if someone just says “Find my lost brother in this area, I beg you” and that’s it.

    In the end this game gives you some of that grind feeling that an MMO provides, and I don’t mean that in a good way. It lacks focus and gives you content just for content sake with no real thought behind it. But I love the dragon age universe and the story and characters kept me going and that is what saved this game for me. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but it could be MUCH better.    … Expand

    For a 2014 GOTY winner, this was quite disappointing. Compared to other winners and candidates this game was not worthy of the title. The story was felt tiresome, the side-missions were a chore and the gameplay was very button mashy. There are much better F2P games such as Neverwinter and Path of Exile that is way better than this.

    Queue repetitiveness, immersion breaking cutscenes and animations, cliffhanger ending that requires a dlc (that isn't available on the PS3 version BY THE WAY) to finish and the cowardice of the developers to not include the Hero of Ferelden in the story despite letting you create Hawke as a character and having him be part of a third of the main story, I just can't give this game any more than that score.

    With this said, it's a personal gem of mine, and I think it has one of the best, if not best villains, plot twists and lore-building that I've ever seen in any video game to date.    … Expand

    Sério, o jogo é muito bom e tal, mas tem algumas coisas nele que me deixam irritado demais. Como por exemplo a exploração do mapa do jogo, que é muitas vezes enfadonha e sem sentido. Você passa meia hora tentando achar o objetivo que eles colocaram lá de maneira meio porca.
    Sem contar que tô zerando a 3ª vez, devido a um bug que houve no meu 2° save onde simplesmente impediu o meu    Sério, o jogo é muito bom e tal, mas tem algumas coisas nele que me deixam irritado demais. The roster of companions is weaker overall and because the maps are way too big, interacting with them is a much smaller proportion of your playtime. The DLC, which goes back to a less open world, more directed level structure, is the complete opposite and contains some of my favorite franchise moments. Overall, I played the game for 121 hours and I found the whole Inquisition plot not very interesting. The power and respect you're given is forced too quickly without seeming to earn it. Rulers of Orlais and Ferleden don't care if your raising an army and fighting by yourself in their territories, and concede to your will automatically. You tend to stand around more in the game listening to people talk about adventures than actually having one. Unless you count fetch quests as adventures. The plot itself isn't very big, but it meanders around causing the game to drag on for hours and you to lose focus on what is important. It's not like Origins' more intense, focus plot. Dealing with the Mage and Templars. isn't anymore fun than it was in the last game. The use of the word "Inquisition" doesn't make much sense considering your job is to do people favors, find things and build an army like a ruler; not torturing people to admit to and rooting out heresy. I wonder if someone was just so in love with the title that the developers were forced to keep it regardless of the storyline or gameplay. But mostly, the problem with this game is its over numerous side quests that are straight from the MMO format of checklists; find twenty of this, find forty of that, kill these, kill those. It is a lot like that game Kingdoms of Amalur: 1001 Dull Quests. I'm also disappointed that all your decisions from the previous game, when you load them up on the EA web site, really don't matter but for conversational pieces, codexes and lackluster cameos. As part of a series, it's disappointing. What started out so great with the first game and had so much potential going forward, just falls flat because there's no payoff in progression with your decisions or characters like in the Mass Effect Series. It is another stand alone version as DA2 was. You could say that this game undoes everything that happened in Origins. Which makes replaying through the series useless.

    There are some issues with this this games overall performance. Glitches in the "save game" can corrupt and freeze you out of playing any further. I recommend alternating between two save files.

    It certainly isn't the prettiest game that has graced my PS4. Much better graphic wise than the first two, but far shy from where graphics are today. It must have been a rush job trying to port this game from last gen to next gen because the frame rates in the cutscenes and during conflict drop. Overall, the graphics just aren't that good as some things look great, like a rolling sea in the background or dragons that'll chomp you to bits, and yet others look bland and void of texturing. You see people losing their feet through floors and ground, people walking through each other, weapons disappearing in people (and not in a good way), and disappearing/reappearing objects or people as you walk around certain areas. I guess I found the whole animation just plain ugly. Nice facial features and more detail to characters wardrobe and weapons, but overall ugly looking npcs and the bodies that look like marinates. My dwarf just looks like a walking barrel. I hope when they retool Dragon Age 4 that they decide to put their effort into art animation like they did in their other series Mass Effect. The sound is most excellent, as you can hear many noises and conversations occurring a the same time.

    As for Gameplay, combat is like DA2 not Origins, except you'll squeeze the trigger instead of pushing a button. There is no auto-attack where it needs one. And they're missing the Origins cool finishing moves, AGAIN. They added the "tactical view" but that doesn't work very well because it is way too sluggish to operate. Why didn't they take advantage of the touch pad for the PS4? What I really dislike about the combat is that enemies will respawn in certain areas like the game is an MMO. I also believe that they wasted their effort on making mounts to ride, for it is just as quick, if not simpler, to walk through the game. Leveling up has sadly changed as you can no longer put points into your attributes like strength and wisdom, but only in which type of attack you can have on your hot buttons. And it certainly has the most complicated, with the most numerous steps in craft making that I have ever played.

    Overall, huge effort in making this game, but lack of direction and poor choices makes a lackluster game and ruins the series.

    If you like good stories then you really need ti understand about previous DA games. I've played them all, but even I had trouble remembering some of the details. However, in order to understand the stories, you need to know about things like Grey Wardens etc as this game does not explain them to a newcomer.

    Customization - Physical -I'm no artist, and no matter how long I spent in the character creation screen, I never managed to get a good looking character, and even the in game created characters aren't much better. Not a major issue, but with the amount of cut scenes in game, it would be nice to know my char didn't look like they were in the middle of a sex change operation, or had been in a horrific car accident. Romance is quite a big thing in this, and the only one I even came close to fancying was Leilana, and you can't romance her. Again a minor issue, but as romance is always part of DA, it would be nice to have pretty people doing it. Remember Morrigan :)

    No customization of stats. I can choose the abilities I have but STR, DEX, etc are all decided by the game.

    Landscapes - My biggest issue with this game! BW have made the game so rich in environments that you need a ping to highlight where loot/interactables are. This is a v good thing. For most missions, you are also told where to go so you don't need to be aimlessly wondering around, but the issue is even though I know where I need to go, BW have made getting to said places so unnecessarily difficult that it drives me mad. Ledges that look like you should be able to get up them but can't, long convoluted routes to something that is only a few feet away, in some case you have to go round a ridge and just keep jumping up until you finally find the ledge that looks no different from any other but BW have decided you can climb this one. It's incredibly tedious.
    This is a huge game with loads to do, so we don't need annoying time sinks like this, just let the size of the game speak for itself!    … Expand

    I prayed that hopefully there would finally be an original game I could play on my PS4 to make it worth the purchase but once again I have not found that game. The worst part is that this game has the potential to be up there with the greatest games ever made but it hasn't for me in my opinion, and I wanted to share why.

    Pro's

    -This Game is stunning Visually, it takes my breath away with how amazing it looks, it blows my mind. It is so beautiful and the landscapes are amazing. The people that worked on making the game look nice really deserved that paycheck.

    -Open World areas. The one thing that would've made DA:O a perfect ten was probably the fact that almost everything was closed in and linear when you arrive at a location. This game is wonderful at being so free in that regard.

    -It's massive. Considering the copy paste of DA:2 settings over and over again for battles and locations, this thing is immense. Spending hours upon hours on one map that was created for a side mission is awesome.

    Con's

    -They removed healing spells. That may not sound like a biggie, but it is to me. They added a cool tactical display that sort of gets ruined by the lack of ability to create tactics in this streamlined game. No longer can I heal myself and their excuse was basically 'People are dumb and don't know tactics'... well **** a duck...

    -Limited Characterization. At least compared to the two previous games. Growing a character that is shoehorned into boring abilities with lack of customization compared to what we are used to is just lack luster.

    -Removal of most of the inventory. Potions are handled separately, recipes are handled seperately, it's just god awful. The User Interface makes me want to slam my head into a wall.

    -Cardboard characters. Who designed these characters? They are god awful. The new ones I mean, the ones from previous games are still awesome but most of the new ones (Especially the female ones are truly baffling). It seems everyone one I want to romance is gay or just doesn't want to make babies with me, just like real life.

    -No threat/Storyline is lacking. I'm walking through the Hinterlands, swinging a sword at random nugs and admiring the beauty of the world they created while everyone I meet tells me the world is ending... Hell I haven't seen it. They keep talking about the breach from the start of the game but it doesn't effect me on any level. The last two games had more threat than the lovely green rifts that I can handle without breaking a sweat.

    -Less Tactics Management. In the last two games there was a very detailed way to customize the A.I. to fight the way you want. You don't get that here for your characters.

    -Towns feel empty. Even when they are filled with people... weird as that sounds it is true. You don't really talk to anyone, there is not many shops, choices to be had, or much to do. It's beautiful but empty.

    -Horrible writing. I know I sort of already said this with the storyline, but seriously this game takes the piss when it comes to the writing for the characters. I mean somehow I became the Hero at the start of the game even though I didn't really do anything.

    -Demographic. Bioware don't seem to know what their target demographic is. It's like they want to check all the boxes and in the process alienate their core audience (Or at least the ones that loved DA:O), and I believe that to some people this is their cup of tea or slice of cake. A lovely casual game because thinking is too hard. But being a lover of this genre of game makes me sad. Why? Because I want these visuals and this amount of effort put into something that is not streamlined for people who barely know how to turn on a light switch.    … Expand

    I feel disappointed with the game
    - the battles are plain boring, playing rogue with bow, you stand there and just fire away
    - the missions have ok stories, but in the end you still run around and do minor errands, pretty repetetive

    I had expected just a bit of the tactics needed for Baldur's Gate and similar games

However the game does not add anything new, it is more of the same. Not much in terms of originality.

    DA Inquisition is a game that has beautiful graphics, but its gameplay is awful. The AI acts strange, ignoring commands, moving when it is not supposed to and remaining still while being attacked. The 2 other games in the series had active battle which actually worked, which were much better implemented, and while the idea of a tactical camera is very good, in practice it is very awkward, because many times micromanaging is affected by the AI's inability to respond.

    In terms of story, if the game were a spin-off it would have been masterful, however it feels completely disconnected of the other 2 games, with things being "reintroduced" without any connection, as if to say "Hey, you are continuing a story!". Tthere are so many side quests, that sometimes it feels as if you're both the life-saver and the errand boy of Thedas. Not much fun in gathering herbs or finding livestock lost in the mountains. The game lacks for its excess. Some quests fell completely unrelated to the story, and they start to get boring very early in the game.

    Romancing was another big disappointment, considering previous games in the series, in which you could choose from psychologically different characters. the options in DA Inquisition are the least interesting in the whole series, at least for a straight male character. The most interesting characters to romance are unavailable, and that is another frustration. Just to compare, Mass Effect 1 had 2 options (for straight males), ME 2 had 4 and ME 3 had several, though not completely "romanceable". They were last generation games, DVD format.

    In terms of challenge, the game itself is not difficult, but the stupidity with which the AI acts makes it much harder indeed. Even by disabling AI I still couldn't make a character stay still, and that resulted in dozens of deaths.

    in relation to perks and skills, the game oversimplified the skill/perk tree, and removed the option to have a healer in your party. First RPG I ever played to do that, and I had to use potions throughout my game. Very frustrating, and again I felt cheated. The combat skills are somehow linked with DA 2 skills, though there is a lack of variation within classes. All characters within a same category feel exactly like the others. A rogue is a rogue, and a fighter is a fighter. No point in choosing, kept the same formation all the time.

    While the item gathering has been increased, again it feels poorly implemented, and the inventory is so confusing that it took 20 minutes every time I wanted to rearrange/change equipment. Not to mention the similarity with Skyrim, mining for metals and crafting armor, though again without meaning or depth. the option to reset a character's skills seems valid after you reach a certain point in the game, but having that from the beginning only supports the idea of not needing to change party members. Only skills.

    In a nutshell, everything in the game is massive, but shallow at the same time. It is like a restaurant which sells burgers, pizza, chinese, pasta, steaks and sushi, though none with excellence. Developers should have focused on what had previously worked, improved what needed to improve, and add SOME features, not making this attempt to include everything that was ever used before.    … Expand

    I really try to like the game and see main story but is all out of focus, complicated, complex, boring combat, etc.
    The world seams nice, atmosphere too, but after few hours I gave up.

    I am only about an hour in, but as someone who has over 300 hours in origins I can say my first impressions are not top notch. The graphics are fairly difficult to work around, at times you can physically see blocks in the scenery, it is very difficult to call this game next gen. The skill tree's seem lacking as well. The whole idea behind rpgs are that they are fantasy based and you are given an opportunity to change your character into whoever you want then play through adventurous terrain. Yes improvements have been made on next generation consoles to better graphics and a larger game world but the gameplay suffers from what it should be. Remember games like mass effect and the elder scrolls series? This is what people want an adventure where you can explore a world, be who you want, go where you want and do what you want and have some say how it plays out. Replayable games that make you want to try again with a new character. Next generation consoles have made great strides building better larger worlds with better hd graphics but developers have done a terrible job with gameplay and also software bugs which breaks all fantasy immersion and belittles the whole idea of rpg and fantasy.. This game is no different, nice world, nice visuals but gameplay omg boring. Somewhere some development team brought the whole idea of workplace attitude into games it shows. No longer are developers making fantasy adventures with rpg elements and building a story into that to make it that much better they are just copying every other game out there. This game is not an rpg fantasy adventure. I want to be harsh so people are clear on my complaint, this game should be called "Dragon Age - Revenge of The Halloween Costume Party Scavenger Hunt Team". Yes, that is how i see this game its an elaborate fetch quest not an open world rpg. This is my critique of a lot of games these days way to much focus on the world design and such a poor idea of what good gameplay is and what gamers really want. We want choices, random loot, a huge game world to explore and consequences play out differently. We want non linear areas, we want interesting lore and creatures, we want game play that will make us feel like in a fantasy world. Certainly we don't want portrayal of real life anywhere. We don't want cutscenes that make us feel we are watching some cheesy tv program nor do we want a checklist of things to look for. We want puzzles and lore to back up the puzzle. So much is missing from this game. Its a drone of every other lazy made game with nice graphics. I can't score it that high. I appreciate how much work went into filling up the software program but at the end of the day i don't see myself interested in invensting my time in a scavenger hunt i can just go to a pawn shop in real life if i want.… Expand

    Be warned, after all the patches and sticking to mostly flat ground, your horse can still sink into the ground and rocks. Loot drops for some inquisitor requisitions side missions are broken with you not being able to complete some of them. Also, the enemies scaling among their own level is screwy once you get deeper into the game. One notable example from this morning was a mage that took 2 minutes to beat while his warrior companions took less than 5 swings and this was a standard non quest mob.

    Most of the games time is padded out waiting for characters and the game catching up with the dialogue and walking/riding around the map. This is on top of load screens sometimes approaching skyrim's in length.

    If you can, grab this as a returned copy or wait about a month for the used ones to flood the stores. The game is broken, the team didnt see to care too much, this is my last pre-order bioware game.    … Expand

Lots of little bugs make this a bit grating too of a game experience, needs serious polish to the input system. Very little to the story and uninteresting in the companions unlike previous games.

    I am not 100% into RPG, it needs to be really good to get me into it.
    However one of the main reasons I did not like and finish it, was because of the story and the missions.     As somebody already mentioned, it is just like a checklist of things to do, even when there is a reason behind you don't feel the need to do it and find what is coming next. The combat system is also weak for me and repetitive from character to character.
    Also the character development and personification is very poor and lack personality.
    Graphics are good and there was potential for a great game.
    If you are RGP fan you may enjoy it but don't hope anything new or fresh.    … Expand

The NPCs your perform these fetch quests for are poorly animated and devoid of life, thus making these "open worlds" feel lifeless. I wish they had spent less time on trying to make this an open world game like Assassin's Creed and GTA and more time on the story,The sidequests make up 80% of this game and they are terrible.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As I started playing this game I was quite excited. I have more or less played every Bioware game on PC and PS3. This game started off quite well and by the time the Inquisition HQ moved to Skyhold I was totally hooked. What a nice fortress and tons of stuff to do! Good! At that point I would have scored this game a full 10. Yes, I noticed the rather simple combat mechanics and the lack of real character building but the story was ok and I really felt being in control! Then I killed my first dragon, which was very "nice". Already a voice in my head was starting to whisper: "That fight was quite lame, unsatisfying...". I went on to kill a further three dragons and the score just kept dropping! Like slowly waking up from sleep I started to see that the combat system was a joke with no tactical depth, the missions repetitive and the ability-tree system just numbers with no real significance. It tells a lot about the quality of the combat and skill mechanics that I just randomly assigned my abilitypoints because the choices made really did not matter. And the characters..., Bioware, what have you done? I´ll go back to playing Dragons Dogma or Dark Souls...… Expand
