Don't repeat my mistake. I missed the original when it came out and only played Disgaea 4 / D2 / 5 later on. When I had the chance to get this I gladly purchased it. Then came the disenchantment. The newer games improved so much gameplay wise that this game looks inferior except for story and characters. Yes I know it is unfair but it is also honest. But lets start at the beginning. TheDon't repeat my mistake. The Disgaea series are strategy RPGs with unique characters, dark humor and endless possibilities to improve your characters. While other RPGs cap at level 99 here you can reach level 9999 and even reincarnate to increase you stats further. You can improve you skills and items also. There is an item world where you can improve all items to ridiculous levels. You can also throw teammates (do this carefully with Prinnies) and later games use fusions and other interesting mechanics. Then there is the humor and characters. It is well interwoven and there are so much good jokes, side-blows and sarcasm. The story is always a good mixture of awesomeness, seriousness, humor and enjoyable character quirks. To describe it best I enjoyed the overall story and the characters Laharl, Etna and Flonne. What I dislike were the battles as the later games gave me a more refined experience (Yes I repeat it is an unfair comparison). Overall this was a good game back then and I would have given a 9 or 10/10 back then. Now with the sequels I will give a 6/10. Expand

For the most part, this is the same game released fifteen years ago, but with HD graphics. While this game feels and plays like a true classic, players will likely wish the remake went a bit further with its changes, especially when it comes to the controls and sound quality.

With the revamped visuals, the very first Disgaea finally looks at least like a game from the last console generation, while the content proves roughly 14 years after its premiere that as a tactical roleplaying experience Laharl, Flonne and friends are still a force to be reckoned with.

The first adventure of Laharl and his companions returns with great visuals, some new features and last, but not least, the complete edition offers all of the extra content we met in the portable versions of the title.
