    Although Wayward Sky wasn’t much longer, it felt like a complete experience with a beginning, middle, and end. As charming as Dino Frontier is, it feels like a proof of concept – the developers clearly show that this genre mashup not only works in VR, but is massively improved by it. I can only hope their next project is a little meatier.

    With a longer run time and more complexity, Dino Frontier could've been the next great PlayStation VR game. As is, though, it's still high up there as one of my favorites for the headset. If you have Move controllers and want a light city-building sim to chill out with, jump on this right away.

    If Uber had stretched Dino Frontier just that little bit further, adding some kind of longevity beyond its ten-hour playtime, it would be a must-have for PlayStation VR. Still, there are few games using Sony’s tech that can boast the same balance of immersion and fun. Where I’ve often felt exhaustion or relief as I take the VR visor from my head, playing Dino Frontier always left me with a smile on my face.

    Dino Frontier is an impeccably charming adventure, one that feels like physically playing with a bunch of cowboy figures and plastic dinosaurs. There’s the foundation for a really solid and unique simulation builder game, not to mention another great application of virtual reality, but Dino Frontier never plays to its strengths as a game.

    Dino Frontier offers another short but sweet experience for PSVR. It's a lot of fun to build your town but the lack of difficulty and content makes it feel like the first level of many when in fact it's the only level. One to look out for if the price drops.

    Dino Frontier’s fun for the few hours you’ll wring out of it, but it could have been so much more. The game is bursting with brilliant ideas, but it never really evolves any of them, leaving an experience that expires long before the cold clutches of extinction have had an opportunity to arise. It’s a shame because with a bit more time in the saloon this could have been a classic – but you may want to wait until it's half-price before pulling the trigger on this release.

    The VR immersion is great and the setting certainly has potential, but with no depth or challenge to the gameplay this trumped-up tech demo lacks teeth.

The second thing is that it's a light, fun game. In my opinion, it fully succeeds as a game with this level of scope as its aim. The problem is that it was originally released at £30 (adjust for your own currency), whereas it should be about £10, which is roughly what I paid. At that price it would probably have an extra 10-15 on its metascore. Despite this, I'd almost call it a must-have PSVR game, just because of how good it feels to interact with the game's people and dinos, combined with the relaxed music and general tone. I'd have preferred a game structure that allowed you to keep playing indefinitely, as the game's relaxing nature means I can imagine wanting to play a bit after a hard day at work.

    In summary, I recommend you pick it up at some point if you have a PSVR, even if you have to wait for a good price (or of course you could pay full price to support the game's developer, just don't expect good value).

    Also, since it hasn't been mentioned elsewhere and isn't in the demo, I'll add that it has a kind of tower defence mining sub-game that's pretty good and adds a more fast-paced aspect to the game.    … Expand

It's got some slight silly in it and the graphics, though cartoonish, are pretty good. The game play mechanics are pretty solid with only 1 or 2 bugs, which don't require leaving the game to fix.

    My biggest complaint is that it's short. I took my time and leveling all the building all the way up in the settlement and the mine. I didn't with the settlers. The highest was 9, most of the others were 8. All that took me around 13 ish hours. I also don't see much replay value in it. I wish there were more than just the 1 settlement to work on (the mine doesn't count in my opinion.) Adding more maps to the game would increase the longevity. Adding some challenges in settlement would help as well. The dinos wandering don't give much challenge as they don't normally go near the settlement. The bandit raids are really easy. Especially once you get a couple dinos on your side. It gives a nice taste of what something like Command and Conquer could be on VR though.

    If you can pick it up around half price I'd jump on it. It isn't worth completely ignoring, as I said it's fun. It's just short.    … Expand
