Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition

This remastered version of Devil May Cry 4 has the same problems of the original one. The heavy backtracking and few issues with the camera system are enough to get the player bored. But the combat system and the gameplay are pretty good, so if you'll manage to stand the backtracking, you'll still have a lot of fun.

If you enjoyed the original Devil May Cry 4 despite its repetitive nature and you know you want to invest time into learning the new characters, then we recommend you pick up the game. But if you only have a passing interest and the sound of three playthroughs isn’t music to your ears, then we suggest you wait until the next iteration in the Devil May Cry series.

Devil May Cry 4 in another game in a long list of remasters. Do you need it? Yes if you haven't played the original game, absolutely not if you have since the improvements are too few to matter.

New characters, old backtracking: this Special Edition further enhances the stylish hack 'n' slash combat system of DMC4 without improving its cheap level design as well.

It's not a remaster for everyone. It delves into the most deep aspects of gameplay mechanics, although carrying along every misstep of the original game.

Had Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition addressed the real problems from the original game, while also keeping some of the high-profile additions, it could've really been something. Instead, it feels like a repackaging that doesn't quite have its heart in the right place.

Despite its outdated campaign structure and many camera issues, Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition still does the job. Thanks to a stylish casting and an awesome combat system.
