My favorite part of all of it was the way that Bungie forces you to employ new tactics and new styles of play. They force you to break out of your comfort zone to try and new load-out or a new way to play through a level you have been through a hundred times before.

An extension of Destiny's triumphs and flaws that ultimately wins us over with its new raid. [Mar 2015, p.68]
  3. New raid, strike missions and multiplayer maps look brilliant. On the other hand, story missions are so short, and the price is too high.

If you're interested in The Dark Below, you know what kind of game Destiny is. You're okay with the grinding. You have a like-minded clan that you play with frequently. You've been level 30 since October. You spend two or three hours a day racking up resources just in case.

Dark Below is for seasoned players only who possess the perfectly functional fire team. The rest of you can turn around and leave.

Rather than expanding on what came before, too often it punishes the committed player, their weapons rendered obsolete, their best gear reset, their flair for teamwork hamstrung by aggressive mobs. [Feb 2015, p.118]

Destiny: The Dark Below is a combination of all of the worst parts of the original game. It offers little value to all except the most dedicated of players and revisits the same overused locations that we've seen a dozen times.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I know im going to get a lot of hate for this but im not the type to really give a flying toast about it.

This might not come to you as a surprise to you guys but all you see on this forum all day, everyday, all the god damn time is someone whining, complaining, crying, hating or telling everyone that their leaving destiny forever. So I decided to make this post of appreciation.

I like Destiny, Im 25 years old, married, no children. I paid about 100$ for this game(including both dlcs), and I have over 1000 combined hours of play time and entertainment from it, I would be an ungrateful brat if I said that I didn't get my moneys worth. Destiny allows me to burn free time with enjoyment. I like the thrill you get when you finally obtain the exotic that you've been waiting for. I like to open chests and find undiscovered presents. I love the fact that no matter how bad Bungie Fcks up, I keep coming back for more. I like the fact that this game entertains me enough that I don't have to spend more dough on other games(for the meanwhile). I love the fact that unlike COD, team tactics are actually essential and necessary to beat the competition. I love the fact that you have so many different things to do every week, all you have to do is chose(Poe/ToO/Nightfalls/Crota raid/Vog raid/Crucible/Farming/Bounties/Strikes). i love the fact that (LFG) allows you to meet new people, and play together from all over the world(diversity is awesome), conversating with them, making new gaming friends, have some laughs about Bungies mistakes, and knocking Skolas on his arse. I love the sense of accomplishment that you feel when you first beat a new raid, or the first time you get 9-0 in ToO, The first time you get that Darn GJallarhorn(although some of you havnt gotten it yet, it will come).

I know that some of you will hate
Some of you will be teachers, and correct my spelling mistakes
Some of you will insult or degrade
Some of you will dispute that this game is actually pretty good
Haters gona hate, ainters gona aint...you hate us cuz you ainus
But that has nothing to do with this post.

All im saying, is that we should appreciate destiny for what it is. A fun, sometimes rewarding, addicting, very social, visually stunning and enticing game. If it wasn't, people wouldn't have hundreds of hours invested into it.

    Sincerely,
    A satisfied casual gamer

Now you may be wondering why I didn’t count Expansions 1 and 2 for Destiny and that is because it is just a Destiny update with more new weapons.

I won't be going into any specifics, but I was expecting way more than just -complete a mission, go back to mission giver, get another, complete the mission..- and the cycle repeats.

I was expecting more of a story driven DLC pack, and not a lazy layout that has you going back to the damn vendor every time you complete a f***ing mission or now what they call "quest", which is the same f***ing thing!

And don't even get me started on the vendor! She doesn't even have anything! She has emblems, and materials that help you upgrade Hive weapons. Why can't she sell weapons or armor? She is so useless, you'll never find yourself using her unless you buy those hive materials that help you upgrade.

And how is this expansion even fair towards light leveled players? Unless you are under LL 27, you'll find yourself constantly dying because of the unfair amount of skilled enemies the game throws at you! I kid you not, there was a story mission where you find yourself killing three yellow wizards, a yellow ogre and an almost impossible wizard. Oh and did I mention they are also throwing insane amounts of knight's and thrawl's at you?

I don't recommend this pack, and I most certainly do not recommend getting an expansion pass if you don't have one yet until it is determined that the next drop "House of Wolves" will be better than this abomination of a DLC.

The Crucible maps are okay, but not really enjoyable IMO. I would talk about some of the fun that I had during playing in Crucible, but all of that crumbled to the ground when I was the MVP on my team (In Clash, I went 24-3) and the worst player on my team got the new Hive exotic, called No Land Beyond, and a combination of Runed Core materials also. And I received the best of all... zip f***ing zero items whatsoever.

It would be a totally different subject bringing in the topic of the awful loot drop rate, but this review is for DLC, and in this review, I give The Dark Below, a 4.2.

If you disagree, I don't really care. if you say this isn't helpful, you are probably right. I submit my opinion on to this site, just like you. We in the MC community respect each other, or that is what I hope happens.

But in terms of content added versus price paid, I am seriously dissapointed with this DLC. Same maps, same enemies, superficial overlay story where most cinematic content was release pre-release. New grind nulling past progress. Uninteresting bounties. For someone who is unable to plan life much ahead with 5 other people at right levels, raid is not interesting but seems to be main real addition. I rely on match making like so many others and don't want to go to web sites to compensate manually for techniques that should be in the game already - randoms are randoms no matter if I find them on community sites or via match making. The plots have been reduced to the dark vs the light.. Really? The dark vs light? Oh lets go kill the wizard and the knight, that seems original to an rpg? Are you intentionally trying to insult the intelligence of your gamers? My other biggest issue is that so little time has been spent on the multiplayer, there is no competitive incentives, like a ranking system? Also, now there are so many one hit kills/pause button items that the competitive nature is nearly gone from the game.... Maybe the intelligence of the gamer isn't the issue, maybe its the intelligence of the developer... Extreme buyers remorse for not only the expansion, but destiny as a whole... Expand

What a heap of garbage. This is what passes for an "Expansion" these days? I remember back when an expansion was an entire new campaign orWhat a heap of garbage. This is what passes for an "Expansion" these days? I remember back when an expansion was an entire new campaign or better (Starcraft brood war, remember that?) and worse yet, most of this stupid DLC is already ON THE DISC.

So what do you get? Oh a couple new strikes, a new raid, and all your gear you worked so hard to get? Yeah its now useless. Oh you can "upgrade" it if the gear was exotic, BUT you'll have to completely re-level it and spend a bunch of strange coins for the privilege.

And that new raid? Oh it's about as buggy and boring as the old one. Did they add any real story? Nope! Here's the whole story for the expansion: the lone survivor of a failed raid group from the new raid has come back to earth to tell everybody that big hive bossman CROTA is coming for us, so now we have to do her laundry list of chores to get ready for the fight. Then go beat up croatato with his one weakness... a sword he keeps five feet away from him held by a wimpy guy a strong wind can push over.

Oh, but she doesn't actually give you enough gear to go fight him if you do all her chores. Nah she'll give you a secondary weapon and a pair of gloves then tell you to bug off and go GRIND GRIND GRIND for vanguard tokens and the new big crappy token you only get for leveling up vanguard ranks. Oh! but you need the new big token for EVERY GUN they sell now, as well as helms and chestplates, that is, in addition to the same amount of marks you had to give them before.

OH! did we mention the new vendor purples are actually WORSE than the old ones? They only have 31 more damage, but noticeably worse statistics than the old guns, especially the new vanguard handcannon vs the old one.

BUT I DIGRESS the fact of the matter is, you shouldn't bother with this. There are so many more enjoyable things you could spend your money on, like a burger or some toilet paper.

Not to mention this whole stupid thing is an artificial gameplay extender by resetting your grinding for new gear, which is exactly what the next expansion will do, introduce new armor and weapons they expect you to grind up into... really this is a massively stupid plan since it does them no good to keep you playing, they aren't selling you any microtransactions to speed up the grind, so more players just means more server strain/bandwidth used after they have put out the product, so WHY try so hard to artificially extend it's play life? Ah, well.

$20. $20 for the same non-narrative, deploy Dinklage, await waves, story missions. $20 for more currencies (are we up to 7 now already?). $20$20. $20 for the same non-narrative, deploy Dinklage, await waves, story missions. $20 for more currencies (are we up to 7 now already?). $20 for rendering your previous upgraded items useless. $20 for a raid that has today, been cleared in 30 minutes. $20 for more RNG. Make no mistake, Destiny is a freemium game with a pretty face and a $60 price of admission. This DLC is a micro-transaction that happens to cost $20. The fact they call it an expansion, when it does nothing of the sort, is insulting. Expand
