I can totally see why someone would hate this game, deem it obnoxious and full of itself, and just see it as a tiresome bore that's devoid of fun, but I also see why someone can call it a masterpiece. I get it. I really do. It's definitely not for everyone out there. It takes a certain level of patience to play. Not the kind of patience that everyone has. There's no question that gamesI can totally see why someone would hate this game, deem it obnoxious and full of itself, and just see it as a tiresome bore that's devoid of fun, but I also see why someone can call it a masterpiece. I get it. I really do. It's definitely not for everyone out there. It takes a certain level of patience to play. Not the kind of patience that everyone has. There's no question that games SHOULD be fun, right? Otherwise what's the point. But this game is clearly trying to invoke a certain feeling from you, albeit frustration, anger, exhuastion, sadness, etc. and I think it's gonna resonate in various ways for all kinds of people who are open to try it. You still may not like it but if you're ever looking for a completely unique, original experience then look no further. But me? I love this game. I really do. Yes, you're delivering packages but there's much more to it than that and delivering these packages can be strangely addicting and satisfying. It's a strategy game in a lot of ways and the way it implements multiplayer is nothing short of brilliant. I found myself building structures to help not only myself but others, often having my structures overwhelmed with likes given to me by other people who encountered them. It invoked a great feeling and it was awesome when someone would leave a helpful thing for me, especially when I needed it at the time. To me, THAT was what I found fun. The passion put into the game is undeniable and it shows. It truly feels like a long journey and it's very immersive due to the sound design and visuals being top notch. The narritive, I think is well told, very intriguing and clearly has a message that it wants to convey, though expect it to be in a very "Kojima" manner, but nontheless, easy enough to understand within the rules that universe establishes. Cutscenes CAN get lengthy from time to time but I couldn't help but be mesmerized during each one. They're shot so expertly and well acted that I was hooked to every scene, which was also fantastically emphasised by the AMAZING soundtrack this game has. Both the Original score and the songs borrowed from other artists simply just works for this...That's all I can say. I'll be walking along, making a delivery and a certain feeling will be going through my head and this song will suddenly come on and it just fits that moment perfectly and helps reinforce the way I happen to be thinking and feeling at that particular point in the game, with the environment I'm trekking through. If you just play along and let it do it's thing, it makes for some really special moments on your journey. I've downloaded at least 10 songs from this game onto my phone. A mix of the OST and the borrowed songs. Music is just perfectly implemented every time and I've never seen anything quite like it with a game. It's special. I've been frustrated by the game at times, yes. It's not perfect at all and I can see why it's so polarizing amongst the community of people who have actually played it, but I couldn't help but be on the side that loves it a lot. I played a 110 hours by the time I was done attaining the Platinum trophy for it and I'm still thinking about the game long after it ended. So many things I truly loved about it. If you ever bring yourself to give this game a chance, go for it. It honestly might surprise you, as it did with me. Expand

It seems it is cool to hate things these days based on emotion, perception and ignorance. For all those ‘players’ who have left the game a 0 negative review, I bet that nearly all of them haven’t even played the game let alone spent the 40+ hours required to finish it.

Nonetheless, the many hours I have spent with the game has been great. It’s gorgeous, the story is mysterious and the setting disturbing. Is it a game based on fast paced, adrenaline spiking action? No. Is it methodically paced, creepy and downright atmospheric? Yes. This game isn’t for those who are hooked receiving copious amounts of instant gratification nor those who simply want to tea bag other players online. You will require patience and the willingness to accept a perfect blend of story telling and gameplay. Basically, you’ll enjoy the game if you’re not a bland, bottom feeding meat head. But there are accusations of it being a ‘walking simulator’ and repetitive. I can’t argue too much here because there is lots of walking but this is evenly split up by the narrative and combat more than enough to keep the progression flowing. But the game is gorgeous and there’s plenty of challenges traversing the terrain where you almost always decide what route to take. I do however feel that the reports of ‘repetitive gameplay’ need to fall on deaf ears because it’s no where near as repetitive as sports sim games like Madden, Fifa, Football manager or shooters like Fortnite, CoD, Overwatch and numerous other games where you rinse and repeat the same maps, same game modes and same objectives. Hell, people have been performing the same old quests on WoW and other MMO’s for over a decade and racing around the same tracks in racing sims for just as long. Ultimately, I would compare this game to a great book that you’d invest your time in rather than a TV series you’ll binge watch in one day. It definitely hooks you in and has a very compelling backstory that you’ll be itching to uncover as you play. It’s not for everyone and it’s not meant to be but we do love in a culture where people want more, faster and to be rewarded for less effort. And you will need to put effort into this game. In the end, the haunting yet calming feeling of walking through the mountains alone becomes addictive in the best sense of the word. Combine that with indescribable creatures, perfectly blended horror tones throughout alongside a truly unique setting and aesthetic, then you’ve got yourself a masterpiece. My only gripe would be the desire to visit other climates but that is a minor concern on what is an overall fantastic game.

So I just finished the game and felt like I had to leave a review to counter a bit of the hate on here.
It took me about 49 hours to complete all the chapters, doing quite a number of side missions, but not nearly all of them.

And I just have to say that this has been one of the most unique game experiences I've had in a long time. And last time I felt so immersed in a game was last year with read dead. And contrary to what has been going around on the internet, I’ve had fun with the game from the moment I started it.
The gameplay is very strategic, deals with a lot of management and is downright addicting and thrilling. Having to move a **** ton of cargo through a challenging terrain, planning your route, planning the trip, dealing with all the obstacles and challenges along the way. Also the passing in which the map and upgrades are revealed and implemented is amazing, changing up the core gameplay with crazy bosses and other mini gameplay elements that we come to know from Kojima.
Also the online element is really cool and refreshing. Had so much fun seeing other peoples structures and signs, helping me out and making my travels easter.
The story is fun and interesting. It’s a bit mystical and has many fantasy elements. But it also deals with some more philosophical and more current subjects. Some that our friends from the US might take a bit too personal, especially coming from a non-american. And I feel like some journalists and internet media kinda showed how toxic they can be, when creators don’t show America in the fantastic light, leading the world and propagating how great of a country it is.
So I think a lot of the hate also comes from this. And the fact that they take what Kojima said about Americans liking shooters more, being taken too personal. And If you rate this game 0 because of that… Pretty pathetic I must say.

All and all, I feel like we had these sort of weird experiences a lot more in the PS2 and GameCube era. I guess gamers were a little different back then. And I don’t understand all the fuss. It’s a really, really good game. Sure, silly at times, maybe even a bit cringy. But that’s Ok. It’s unapologetically itself. And I’m pretty sure that this game will reveal itself to be a pretty big cult classic and all the downvotes in the world isn’t going to change that. Why? You might ask? Because, again, It’s really that good. You just need to give it time to breathe and don’t rush to finish it in under forty hours. And to top it all off: 1) No microtransactions 2) a completely new and super creative IP from great talents in gaming and film. 3) A story that ends and doesn’t build up to a shared universe!

I recommend this to anyone who likes strategy, the best item management since RE4, creative story, amazing environments and taking their time. Be patient and be open to what this game wants to give, and you’ll probably be as addicted and fascinated with this game as I am.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
O jogo lembra muito STATE OF DECAY 2 do Xbox One.

I feel the scores that give this game a low 1 or - 4 score are very unfair as even if you dont like the game, you have to appreciate what it has attempted to acheive and respect that it has very few bugs for a launch game. I recommend that everyone at least gives this game a try as it is and absolute masterpiece and is a one of a kind, a true original concept.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
