I really wanted to love this game, I really did but it’s a waste of money. The attempt at making something new and fresh has resulted in an awkward mashup of walking and managing deliveries. I am sure there are people who enjoy this kind of thing but this certainly isn’t for me. I’ve given it a 7 for the effort of making a new type of game but I can’t give it more and I really wanted to give this a 10. The character or Norman Reedus is quite brilliant and so are the graphics but the world feels unfinished and combat and interaction mechanics feel like they were an afterthought. Expand

I think we can add the following to what likers and dislikers have said:

    - For most gamers, this game has no respect for the pacing you know, love and expect in most games. It has little respect for teh action you love and expect in most games. - In large part because it subverts and avoids so many familiar, predictable tropes, DS is original and occasionally inspiring. The new trope of endless comical-dangerous delivery tasks will wear thin on many players after 4-10 hours.

    - Apparently DS was a big seller in japan. Apparently Japan gamers engaged with creating-carrying ridiculously tall stacks of boxes; then, fighting the natural environment to move forward with these over almost impossible terrains. Maybe in Japan, the comical nature of moving while balancing tall stacks of boxes was funnier than in the States.

    - I vote DS's digital face performances far and away the best in games this year and maybe ever so far in games. The camera lingers on faces and for me as a guy, the long takes with the four beautiful women's faces never got old. It's that good.

    - Need a new set of metaphysics? The game sells a complex new hologram of metaphysics. It's unlike mainstream or even valid esoteric metaphysics. It's also not New Age. There's lots of uneccessary swear words. It is still atheistic. The many new and unexplained terms alone can do you in. "All The Terms You Need To Know To Start Death Stranding" by NICK STRAUB on GameInformer.com will save you hours of head-scratching, if you intend to understand the game.

    - DS is a technical marvel. HOWEVER be warned, you will spend 50% OR MORE of your play time tweaking things on inventory and equipment screens. I kid you not.

its not a bad game but also not a good one gameplay wise. the cutscenes are great and the story stunning. i really loved the plot and it was kinda mindblown.
but the gameplay is just...lets say....kinda nothing.if this would be 10 missions like this i think most ppl could deal with it but its the whole game.

Death Stranding is around 7/10 at its' worst and 8 to 8.5/10 at its' best. Without Konami's editing, one can feel and appreciate Hideo Kojima's creative forces behind the Metal Gear games. Hideo Kojima likes making games with smart, gritty, story-driven missions with militaristic undertones that have protagonists fully equipped with the latest tech to get the job done. All of this manifests in Death Stranding reasonably well, with some caviats. Fantasy job-simulator games have a somewhat niche market. The experience is there, but the amount of enjoyment one gets out of the game depends on how much they like the job description. Basically, in Death Stranding, you play as a package deliverer in a post-apocalyptic world. While the job is meaningful and vital for the survival of other settlements in the world, the dangers and beauty of the world don't always make up for the tedium that being a long-haul delivery man occasionally brings with it. The experience of this game is essentially the experience of an interesting job that would never exist in our world today, what with transport vehicle technology, decent infrastructure, and the lack of an appocolypse making the concept of this game protagonists' job that much more unnecessary in a developed country. The experience of virtual hiking, on the other hand, is spirit-lifting. Long treks across vast, Iceland-like landscapes make this worthwhile for those with the patience and contentment to appreciate it. Expand

Death Stranding is the most bizarre and difficult game to describe out there, I would even consider it as a game that cannot be fully explained. I commend Kojima - the dude had a vision, went through with it and now has created one of the most discussed games of the year due to how controversial it has become, hats off for that. Not necessarily because of any political themes, but ratherDeath Stranding is the most bizarre and difficult game to describe out there, I would even consider it as a game that cannot be fully explained. I commend Kojima - the dude had a vision, went through with it and now has created one of the most discussed games of the year due to how controversial it has become, hats off for that. Not necessarily because of any political themes, but rather its gameplay loops surrounding it.

Let me just be clear on this - Death Stranding is a game that is not for everyone. I can see why a lot find the traversal movement towards your destination boring or frustrating. The environment is gorgeous at first but gets stale after a couple of hours, and the BT encounters are too frequent. Even if you were to be caught by BTs, a few grenades usually do the job for the miniboss. Is our FedEx job designed to be tedious? Maybe.

What annoys most about Death Stranding, however, is how little Kojima did with the gameplay loop. There are not enough varied gameplay elements to keep a player for long around, and some of these elements can even count as being intentionally tedious. Considering how long the game is, could you expect why someone would bother sticking around for 40 - 50 hours of a FedEx job with a crying baby tube in front of your chest?

...Exactly what happened. I can't exactly tell why I got so hooked and had fun with delivering cargo across an empty landscape, but I will try my best to explain why.

The overworld of Death Stranding is a bit built up like a micromanagement progression system. The bumps and little obstacles along the way require smart route planning. Previous routes travelled will be shown on your map. I like this little progression system, along with managing your cargo efficiently. It always gives a little reward for the player and encourages them to think 2 steps ahead. For example, loading your cargo correctly can greatly increase your stamina, as wind and other various weather hazards can hinder or even block your way through the landscape.

The biggest reason why I became so hooked to this game is thanks to its social system. If it weren't for that, I would not be playing it for so long. Along your journey, you can build structures to make your travel more efficient and easier. Things like postboxes, watchtowers, bridges, ropes, ladders, the list goes on. Other people have a chance to see your structures and use them to their advantage, as the same goes for you. Other structures in your world appear which you can make use of. Awarding "likes" to the player shows your appreciation for their effort to build or upgrade structures. I just absolutely love this concept, as it is a give and take scenario. I am being motivated to build structures, deliver other peoples lost cargo, and make an effort to give back what I have taken advantage of in the early hours of this game. I know that I am not only contributing to myself but actively for other people in their world as well. There are many ways to contribute towards your world and others too.

The encounters with BTs and other various gameplay aspects, such as vehicles, power skeletons or generally helping out keep the gameplay from getting stale, although they can also be tedious to deal with when you just wish to get from Point A to B.

Nevertheless, Death Stranding makes me feel like I am contributing to something important. Maybe not to a world many will play in, but definitely in a place where I feel like I am changing something. One step at a time.

There are a few things that keep me from giving this game a higher score. Firstly, the game's driving physics are pretty terrible. In 2019 there's really no excuse for how bad these driving mechanics are, especially from a game with such a high budget. Then there's the gunplay/combat in general, it just feels like an inferior MGSV. Another thing is the difficulty of the game or lack thereof. I played this game on hard mode and I only died maybe 3 times and I never failed any of my deliveries. The lack of challenge was definitely a detriment to this game. Lastly the characters, most of the cast is pretty forgettable. For a game that obviously wants you the player to get invested in it's story and world, it's pretty disappointing that the majority of the cast is subpar.

There's only so many times you can tolerate doing the same things over and over, watching the same cutscenes over and over, and getting the same generic rewards over and over before getting annoyed and bored.

How does it hold up to some of Kojima's other work? Well it's certainly no MGS or Snatcher.
The graphics are very impressive, possibly Yoji Shinkawa's best work, the aesthetics and designs are very creative, and likewise the world design is about as good as it gets for the current gen, pure eye candy. The sound design is also pretty good, I enjoyed more than a few of the licensed songs, and I can't complain about the sound effects and ambience. The voice acting is pretty exceptional aside from Norman Reedus being mostly absent and just listening to NPCs without any response most of the time, much like Kiefer Sutherland did as Big Boss/Venom Snake in MGS V.

The story is just weird, some parts of it are neat but more silly than anything, some of the cut scenes are exceptional , very nicely shot, and directed and that just might be the carrot on the stick to get you through the often drawn out, repetitive chapters but the story itself is just extremely tongue and cheek and I found myself rolling my eyes at the plot and world building Kojima is known for.

Gameplay is interesting, the locomotion itself is a challenge, it can be fun at times even with the frustration of taking one wrong step and falling flat on your face ruining your cargo early on, I still had a bit of fun traversing the world and having to get creative to make short cuts and working with/helping out the other invisible players to make the landscape more convenient to navigate.

I would have loved to see more importance in combat and I understand that Kojima is not a huge fan of killing and ultra violence, but the combat feels very dated for a game released in 2019, especially compared to how good and deep the combat and controls felt in 2015's MGS V.

I'd say its worth buying, just wait for a sale. I got my copy at 40 USD and still I overpaid a bit because of how the game just drags on and leaves much to be desired. Maybe 30 dollars would be a better price-tag. The Metal Gear saga has been my favorite franchise in gaming, really hate saying I am disappointed with Death Stranding but yeah.. It could have been better for sure.

    The bad parts:
    * Long, pointless dialogues ("I am Fragile but not that fragile", I mean WTF Kojima-San? Oh, and original and "unique" characters names like Deadman, Heartman, Hardman, Die-Hardman, was hoping to see a guy name Fartman but was disappointed). Notice, these are not superhero names. Some may say this is art and I won't judge cause some dudes once left by accident a fire extinguisher in the middle of an art gallery and they were praising it as art).

    * Driving around the United Cities of America (cause the USA in the game are No More) is horrible. The vehicles just lack of physics and of proper control.

    * The combat system is poor, tiring and repetitive. Three punches is what it takes to take out your enemy. Although there are points for going in stealth, it's a total waste of time. You want to play something Stealth? Better play Hitman.

    * There is a good variety of weapons but i never used them apart in boss fights cause it's easier to run over your enemies with the truck and get **** done.

    The good parts:
    * The network features and their interactions are GREAT and innovative. Other people can help you out throughout your journey. Either by setting up ladders, or by laying down roads and leaving equipment or parts for you to help you out. You can do the same and there you contribute in general, which is awesome.

    * Stunning graphics.

    * I found the game sometimes relaxing. Cause when I was out for deliveries I was just entertained with the parts that I had to surpass obstacles, climb mountains, set up ladders and using my climbing equipment.

    * What also kept me going were the upgrades from time to time, which indeed help you on your quest. Otherwise I would have quit playing in the first 20 hours.

Death Stranding has a unique creative concept. Unfortunately, in term of game, it is not as great. I have spent like 25 hrs+ and decide not to continue. Repettiveness is what killing the game. Though you will have more devices as you progress, it does not help much. The things I don't like from start are heavily cutscene and NPC talking too much. I thought it would be lesson when I continue to play more, but no, every goddamn time when you finish delivering something, NPC will always have long talk. The story also goes very slow too. Besides. reward from sidequests or helping other lost cargo are trivial.

The most fake part of this is the mutiplayer things here. You are to believe that when you building something, others could have see what you build and then you are helping community. The true is, all of building shown are scripted, at least in some degree. I have checked info online about the system and it seems fake. Like you will never get completed build the road, because Kojima has scripted that you will only seen a part of them, you will have to build your own too. I understand his intention that he does not want the game become too easy for those who play later, but it also mean that things you build are not really to help others as you intend. Moreover, player will have to process themselves to be able to see some high tech building of others, but at that times, they might not need it anymore. I have seen few people posting about they have built all zipline to go to anywhere from anywhere, but no one see their zipline. Why should we spend time build all the road, if our effort will be partially shown to others, or not at all ?

In sum, I like Kojima concept. Graphic is beautiful too, Cutscene and facial animation could be the best right now in the market. However, it does not succeed as game in my opinion. Repeptiveness, boring long NPC talk kill the game.

Played so many bad games recently but this was a pleasent suprise along with Days Gone. The graphics are great, can't wait to see the PC version, only thing I could wish for was a night and day cycle, but could he avoided it because of dark BTs, although that could pose an interesting challenge. The game is really about hoarding, getting civilization back to function and running errands which to be honest is what we do in most games. Yeah, it is repetetive and for many not very exciting, but I like it regardless. I think the cinematics are great and odd, I think the story can be interesting and very complex, maybe a bit too much. I think this is not a game for most people, it's a heavy game meaning you have to invest a lot of time, you have to enjoy playing alone and have a lot of patience building yourself up from basically nothing. I think the game is borderline genius and mad. The worst part is the ending. It is terrible and far, far too long. 7/10.

The fails are in the way the story is presented and the gameplay, altough it has a very cool story with a lot of interesting concepts, it fails to develope it's world building in an interesting way to the player, you don't' do stuff, you are told by other characters....basically exposition after exposition, so much so, that even your character's past is told to you by someone else in the form of exposition!

The second thing is the gameplay, in the beginning everything is actually very interesting, you have to learn the most basic thing in a game, to walk! tha'st actually interesting, as the game progresses new mechanics are presented but, EVERYTHING never goes past the most surface - easiest level: walking, climbing, traversing the world, fighting, shooting, survivor mechanics, are all minimum, theres nothing complex, a lot of mechanics that have no real meanning, impact in the gameplay. One example: your boots can waste their durability, when that happens you will bleed, and you can die from losing too much blood, that's an interesting survivor mechanic, but guees what, YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE AN EXTRA PAIR OF BOOTS! There are many other exampels that goes the same way, a cool idea that is trivialized by the own game!!

The game it's interesting but at the same time is not enough to be great or fails in areas that it really shouldn't. I can only hope that Sony and other big studios don't give up on weird ideas and different games because of this one.

Death Stranding is a very controversial game. I really love it, but wouldn't recommend it easily:

Pros are amazing graphics, sound, atmosphere, story, message of the game itself (rebuilding America) Cons are it can easily be found VERY boring. It's basically about moving from point A to point B, with a lot of backtracking. If you fall in love with Sam Bridges, then it's a great game.

This game really is sub par. If you're in your 30s and the time to play games is hard to come by now, I'd recommend to skip this. The story takes way, way to long to start and is mind numbingly uninteresting. Don't expect any fireworks. It does have its moments though but they're far fewer than what you'd expect. How Kojima got these actors interested in this game will always be a mystery to me.

But, having gone a couple of months and realising that almost all games have repetitive gameplay loops I decided to give it a go.

I have to say the more balanced reviews are correct, this is a very interesting game but it absolutely is not for everyone, it's very difficult to describe to be honest, the basic gameplay is indeed take this from a to b, and repeat but it's just so much more than that. The on the fly planning, route making, stealth, combat, asset management all make it so much more than just a postman simulator.

I've got to say it is a slow burner of a game, almost an open world puzzle if you like. I suspect if your interests are more in the twitch shooter or sport sim direction this game would be hell on earth, and that is in no way a dig at the guys that play those genre, it's a talent I don't have.

It's possibly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen on the PS4, the controls are tight (the vehicles aside) and it's music is excellent.

I'd recommend picking it up, but if you ain't sure just wait it out and pick it up cheap in a years time. It's worth a look at least surely?

The core gameplay is what makes this game enjoyable. And the multiplayer aspect (heavily borrowed from Dark Souls and exceptionally well expanded) really shines.

I'd still give this game an 8 despite the writing, however there's another negative aspect that needs to be addressed. It's the controls and the aiming. It might work perfectly fine for the delivery gameplay; but not for the bossfights. You strafe like you're ice skating and the aiming is too floaty, making targeting an enemy unnecessarily awkward.

There was this fight where you had to dodge the enemy's attack and you can tell that the controls was not designed for such occasion.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Death Stranding took me about 6 months to finish - not because of massive content but because it is so boring to play and feels like work. The graphics and the motion capturing are awesome - however you might ask yourself why USA now looks like Iceland. The basic plot idea about GD, BB, etc. is great and refreshing - however the story Hideo built from it is just not good. At multiple points in the game it spoils you that Amelie and Bridget are the same person, that Amelie is causing GDs to appear and that Clifford is Sam's dad. After you defeated Higgs it takes another 4 hours to finish the game - and there is no story in it. It's just used to stretch the game to at least 30 hours playtime. For example after you killed Higgs Fragile teleports everyone back except YOU - the only person who can stop Amelie and thus is important for humankind. So you have to walk all the way back to the beginning of the game. Why? Ask Hideo. There's just no logical reason to it. The gameplay is so repeating. If you start the game now, install all patches first so you can skip these damn animations of Sam getting in cars, Sam delivering crates, Sam looking at boring holograms, Sam looking at delivery drones walking away, Sam looking at bikes being delivered from your garage, Sam doing this, Sam doing that, ... It just makes you angry when you have to watch them over and over again. Oh and don't forget to get a cover for your X button - you will smash it so many times to go through all of the UIs to accept or finish a delivery. Death Stranding could have been a masterpiece - the gameplay and the story prevents that. So it's just a mediocre game you will play once, then deinstall and forget about. Expand

Expand

Kojima is lox cause "The Death stranding" is expensive and doesn't give you anything new. However, you can enjoy really outstanding music and unpredictable story.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is okay, I enjoyed this game at the beginning but over time everything started feeling slow, the story was just too long and the game lost my attention after about 70%. I had to kill like 4 or more final bosses and every time I was hoping that this is the last one but no, definitely too the long the game. UI is also overcomplicated, the same animations in terminals were really annoying after a while. I got plat in this game and that was definitely a pain to finish everything. Expand

The fetch missions, which constitute a large portion of the game, were often times unbearable, and spending hours simply traversing from one area to another is not my idea of good gameplay. I like to chill with games and am open to many different genres so I was able to embrace this game and enjoy the virtual hike and journey within its world.

I think the problem with the way this game has been recieved is mostly by people expecting some kind of action game and instead getting a slow burn simulation game. This is no different from an FPS fan finding puzzle games boring and vice versa.

The game isnt perfect by any means, mostly hurt by being overly long and ultimately too boring. Improved combat would go far in imporving the excitement.

Overall if you are looking for a chill game with a strong atmosphere and decent story then the chances are you will like this.

I applaud the game for trying something new and fresh, but I cannot get behind a game that isn’t the least bit fun or entertaining, or meaningful for that matter. I found it to be a chore just to play. In fact, it’s like you’re working for the USPS, all the while micromanaging constantly. It’s certainly a double-edged sword. It has its pros and cons, I just feel like it ultimately ends up being average. I want to see Kohima do some type of horror game next. Expand

Great story, immersive world, wonderful characters, BUT the gameplay is pretty bad. With the repetitiveness of just delivering packages, you would get bored pretty fast and the lack of combat just makes it worst. Often it best that you just run away from the thieves the fact killing them plants bb's.

Basically it's a walking simulator with a big ass world repeating **** 24/7

Interesting game, I like how different it is. Very beautiful and has a nicely moody soundtrack and unique world. The downside is that around 90% of the characters are white men. Very little diversity. Very few women and those that do exist are pretty one-note (they all seem to be "mother" figures).

    - Story. At first it’s as convoluted as possible, but with time it turns into one of the most heart-warming and upsetting at the same time.
    - Graphics. Game looks amazing. Both environments and characters look impressive.
    - Audio. Ambient sounds with tasteful addition of music in selected areas and scenarios give more weight to everything that happening on the screen.

    The Bad:
    - Physics. Most of the interactions with the world seemed clunky and almost drove me mad.
    - The gameplay. It is intentionally arduous. As a gamer I want to feel some sort of accomplishment while playing the game, but the deliveries themselves were a chore. And worst part is that deliveries are 85-90% of the game. Therefore, the game for me felt like a chore rather than an adventure to reconnect the world.

    The Ugly:
    - UI and game design. The number of times I had to press andor hold "X" is ridiculous. The number of Tips, emails and interviews is off the charts. I don't see the reason for them, for me its just more busywork.

Overall it is the most divisive game I've played in a long time. The problem is - it made me divided. I hate and love this game at the same time. The story it shoved me was definitely worth seeing but the gameplay almost deprived me of that story.

As always you should find out for yourself is this game for you or not. I`m glad and sad that I beat it at the same time, like the cat of that Schrodinger guy ;)

Physics can be wonky too, though I didn't encounter any game breaking bugs. Ultimately, you get as much as you're willing to receive from this experience. The cinematic cutscenes are where this game really shines. There are of course long sections of waking sim, though nicely accompanied by a beautiful soundtrack. And the core loop of making deliveries surprisingly doesn't tire after 30 hours. This is definitely another Kojima tale about the failings of American society, and the world at large. But the links to historical and mythical stories along with the outlandish new lore ultimately make it a compelling piece of fiction that stands on its own. I rarely if ever felt like the suspension of disbelief was broken, even with all the menus. Expand

The Great: theme, graphics, concepts, scenes. The bad: gameplay. Walk was fun at first, for the player is consistently analysing route and, hence, deciding. But do it for hours and things will get boring. I gave up the game. Couldn't stand more time playing it. STORY : it seems good, but i can't really say since i didn't end it, after all. - Sometimes the game forces you to walk very long distances, later it will get better with vehicles, and other upgrades, but still...
    - I hated the ghost parts, they were scary, true, but unfun
    - The environment is empty overall, sure, there are some settlements, and mules, but they are very rare, and the mules are very rarely part of the main game

I think this is a well made game, it's just not for me, however, I was hooked by the story, and eventually finished it, but not because of the lackluster gameplay.

Visually stunning and intriguing world design. One of the best looking open world games of the modern era. The post-apocalyptic world design with lush green environment with oily-dirty substance and structures make for a unique sight. The presentation is a bit problematic at times, there are sometimes too many cut scenes that slows down an already slow game. Some skipable with one button, others require different buttons.

    Soundtrack & Voice Acting: 10
Music is transcendent, it's up there at the top of video game soundtrack Hall of Fame with Nier: Automata and The Last of Us. Voice acting is excellent.

    Writing & Story: 7
We're getting into controversial territory here. The main plot is unique and unlike anything I've experienced before. The story is built around original concepts only capable of coming out of the mind of a genius or a man man. The plot deserves a perfect score for creativity. Sadly, you can't talk about the story without the writing. The dialogue is questionable at times, the fourth wall breaking regularly shatters the immersion of an otherwise serious storytelling experience. The protagonist's oedipal relationship with his mother/sister/lover also is jarring and everything is too much on the nose starting from the names of the locations (Knot this, Knot that) to names of the characters (Bridges, Strand, Die-Hardman etc). There are too many eye-rolling moments to take the story seriously at times.

    Gameplay & Fun Factor: 0
This is where things get interesting. As I attempt to get the platinum trophy on hard difficulty, this has been easily one of the most frustrating gaming experiences of my life.

The core gameplay of Death Stranding is intentionally tedious, which is ironic since gameplay is the foundation and heart and soul of every video game. The constantly mandatory opening of menus interrupt the moments of auditory bliss provided by the otherworldly soundtrack. Gameplay requires a lot of precision get imprecise controls worsened by realistic physics make traversal a real nightmare. Whilst zip-lines can be fun to use, most everything isn't.

Combat mechanics aren't engaging, most of the enemies provide distraction from the real enemy of the game - the controls. Moreover the excessive slow motion slows down the cripplingly slow gameplay even further. I'd recommend playing on the Easy mode, disregard the stealth and quickly chop through the enemies to get to the good part, the story.

Overall the gameplay is intended to realistically reflect the hardships of carrying inhumane amount of weight and travelling across rough terrains. This is a textbook example of how too much realism can actually hurt a game.

    Performance & Stability: 7
Game plays like a dream. Apart from sudden loading pauses when you're zip-lining through the map (which I imagine can be fixed with an SSD) there's no frame rate drops or no crashes to talk about. Incredibly stable!

    Overall: 6.4
Death Stranding is a unique blend of intriguing and emotional story, sublime music, spectacular visuals and intentionally frustrating and tedious gameplay which makea it an inconsistent work of art that's difficult to recommend to everyone. It's cripplingly slow and takes a little too long to unlock the more engaging elements of the gameplay. One could argue that it should've been a movie or a TV show instead of a game but it's hard to argue that it's an incredible and unique experience should you suffer through the boring slog of a gameplay for 50+ hours.

The plot seems weird, but the story goes too slow to get to know it better. My main complaints are: as I said, too repetitive and boring, tiny letters (it's hard to read even with a big tv. I like to play the games in English but because of the tiny letters I decided to put the game in Spanish but at least the voices were decent); also I almost got mad trying to build the first bridge and making the first motorbike work, I ended up looking for help in internet. When I heard about the online part it sounded like garbage, but actually it works great! It feels like your working together to make the world better and in a weird way it doesn't make you feel alone even tho you play alone haha.

So I think most reviews are lying, feels like they haven't played a lot of the game, only couple of hours. Sure game is not perfect but sure is not ****/bad like most people say.

This game is more aimed for thinkers/planers and people that like to progress more slowly and in a relaxed way. This is not a game for those that like lots of fast paced games like most fps as example. Because I'm not that person.

So would I recommend this game to people? Yes but I would also explain you will need patience and why the reason behind it, because this is not a game for impatient people. We all know a person like that, when great story in a game is told.. Boom instant spam skip, to get to the action.

Death Stranding is creating a new game genre and therefore paves its own path towards more interactive experiences. It is a brave work thanks to its novelty, which fortunately is not a bragging right for its creators, as it may have seemed, but an exceptional title that will reward the brave who play it. This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Death Stranding stands as a powerful author’s game which drives a strong message of how our over-connected society is evolving, and how we can help other players. Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
