Frequent death promotes experimentation with an impressive collection of weaponry and party member traits, making this great for a quick trip and less something for lengthy sessions. [Issue#150, p.94]

Death Road to Canada is a fun play after powering through the extreme learning curve, combining zombie survival and old arcade art.

Death Road to Canada may look like a generic indie game but it's surprisingly unique in its decision-based campaign. It's too bad that the gameplay relies so much on repetition and luck because it would have provided a much more satisfying experience if it didn't.

The game successfully fuses different genres together. Each new adventure presents you with randomly selected levels which do a great job of conveying the sense of survival. The longer you spend with the game however, the more its flaws become apparent. Luck plays a big part in whether or not you'll survive a little bit longer and the level of difficulty is anything but consistent. When repetition sets in after a while, you'll soon want to forget going to Canada altogether.

This is the perfect couch coop game. Seriously, you have to play this. It is so fun! It is a survival game, you know... that zombie apocalypseThis is the perfect couch coop game. Seriously, you have to play this. It is so fun! It is a survival game, you know... that zombie apocalypse thing, but it's not too dark, gloomy or depressing like all other survival games. This one is silly and fun. Sure, you are serious about making it to Canada and you don't want to be eaten by zombies... but the humor in this game is something special. If you have any sort of sense of humor you will laugh a lot during your journey to the great white north.

The music is great, very catchy tunes. They get a little bit more stressful during night time (as it should be) but overall the songs are just upbeat and I like them.

You can create custom characters for your friends and family members. You may encounter these characters during your road trips, they will join your group and try to survive with you. It's great fun. You may recruit dogs, cats or other animals to assist you in your deadly trip.

Most of the time you will NOT succeed and you will die. When your whole party has been killed it is GAME OVER and you have to start over from the beginning. Personally this is exactly what i enjoy with the roguelike genre. You have to be 100% committed because you know you have just one shot. If you fail, it's too bad, try again! But don't worry because dying in this game may be a little bit frustrating but not that much. It's all about the journey. Crazy stuff happens, your best buddy dies, your main character dies, the dog you recruited earlier becomes the only survivor left... then he drives the car, fight bandits, loot grocery stores and ultimately get killed in an unforgiving siege near the Canadian border. Victory was so close. Dang it! That was awesome anyway, let's try again.

It's a unique game that might not be for everyone. If you like a games offering a relatively hard challenge, if you like the concept of perma-death, if you like randomly and procedurally generated content... then by all means stop what you are doing and buy this game.
