Apr 9, 2016Dead Star has the basics of combat and ship balance right, to the point that even losses have their fun moments. Its primary shortcoming is that it allows too great an advantage for pre-made groups, which is especially a problem considering the wonky matchmaker.
-
Jun 21, 2016Testing a new ship and learning the best situations to use each weapon and ability feels thoroughly satisfying, especially when playing against human opponents. All the while, Dead Star still manages to feel tense and exciting, and the strong community suggests that it will continue to be a worthy addition to your gaming library.
-
Apr 18, 2016A fun change of pace from other multiplayer-only games. It comes with a decent tutorial and bot match options as well, but the fast and fun 10-on-10 matches are the obvious draw. The Escape Run mode is an intense and creative twist that keeps things lively. For fans of old school shooters, this is especially worth checking out.
-
Apr 15, 2016Dead Star is quite fun, unique and serves as a great spin on both old and new genres, but one can’t help but feel concerned about the game’s longevity.
-
Apr 11, 2016Dead Star is an interesting idea, but also quite risky. The whole experience revolves around its community, so the success of the game is in your hands. Being available on PS Plus, if you're looking for a team-based experience, it's worth a try.
-
Apr 11, 2016An interesting mix of concepts whose outcome is yet unknown.
-
Playstation Official Magazine UKJul 6, 2016Forward thinking but roughly executed. Lacklustre shooting and winning base-building aren't the best of bedfellows, but they make an interesting couple. [July 2016, p.86]

Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaJun 25, 2016Sure, there are neat ideas here, no question. But problems with Dead Star’s mechanics mean this is one space race that’s only occasionally worth running. [August 2016, p76]
-
Apr 12, 2016On paper, the whole thing sounds delicious, but in the end the effort to combine them gives you a stomachache. It’s not a bad game; it just doesn’t do anything striking with the mechanics it borrows.
