    Cris Tales is carried along by a good story and an extraordinary art direction that tell of heroic acts, self-acceptance, courage, revolutions and hopes in a "fairytale about time". His non-linear tale is based on a classic JRPG gameplay but it's able to present itself with its own clear and distinct personality, unique mechanics and good ideas, trying to give depth to the combat system. Unfortunately these possibilities do not match well with the lack of strategic situations and the very high frequency of random encounters does not help to make the most banal encounters less unpleasant. Cris Tales remains a well done game, but could have offered much more.

    Cris Tales‘ number one selling point is its use of time manipulation as both a plot device and battle mechanic. It’s what makes the entire experience. It’s a solid mid-range game, great for teens and adults looking for a fairly breezy thirty-ish hour adventure. However, there are better games out there that you should experience first, especially if you have to be more selective with your cash.

    While Cris Tales offers a stirring adventure — packed full of wit and character — numerous mechanical shortcomings frequently put the brakes on its excitable spirit. A victim of unfulfilled ambition, Cris Tales doesn’t quite deliver on its clever premise or its chrono-combat. There’s no denying the passion and talent of the developers, however, manifested in stunning visuals and a wonderful cast. Cris Tales will definitely ostracize some players, but those with a little patience may see past its flaws to embrace its heartfelt homage to gaming’s bygone era.

    Cris Tales claims to be a “love letter to classic JRGs” and it has all the elements that make up a great JRPG by bringing back things we’ve missed about the older classics but it hasn’t quite executed them as well as I’d hoped. The combat was easily the best part of Cris Tales but this was unfortunately ruined by loading screens/times; I hope they can get this fixed ASAP so the game can receive more credit. This is one of the few, maybe only, games I’ve played where my experience was ruined by a mix of technical issues.

Cris Tales is a "promising" game, that is a tribute to classic RPGs with stylized animation reminiscent of Samurai Jack and Dexter's Laboratory, and with an interesting take on using "time" on gameplay. Unfortunately, the game is held back by terribly frequent random encounters, and.......... awful awful amount of loading screens and loading times that pop-up each and every time, whether exploring areas or from random encounters that ruin the immersive experience. Explore-loading-battle-loading-explore (rinse and repeat), and the high frequency of random encounters make it worse, it felt like half the time playing the game, is staring at the loading screens. Imagine watching a movie that gets interrupted by a frickin' commercial every 2 minutes. After defeating the 1st boss and reaching the 2nd town, just had enough of the "torture" and put down the controller. Really disappointed, wish the devs can patch and fix the amount of loading screens and loading times that "bombard" the game play, that is unacceptable at this age of gaming and ultimately "make the game unplayable". Until then, putting Cris Tales on the backlog and not buying games from the same publisher/developer again.… Expand

    Comenzando con lo positivo no voy a hablar de como se ve, todos somos conscientes de que su estilo es precioso, pero me gustaría hacer énfasisComenzando con lo positivo no voy a hablar de como se ve, todos somos conscientes de que su estilo es precioso, pero me gustaría hacer énfasis es que el diseño de personajes es hermoso, con una estética única, carismático y con personalidad. También me gustaría mencionar que las actrices y actores de doblaje han hecho un trabajo excelente. Eso es todo, vayamos ahora con lo malo.

    Un JRPG sin inspiración de todo aquello que lo hace JRPG. La mecánica de ver el pasado y el futuro es buena, interesante, y ejecutada de manera elegante, pero lo que hace a un JRPG es el combate, la exploración, el desarrollo de parámetros y la historia, cuatro cosas en las que el juego está muy por debajo de la media, y cuando digo media no me refiero a la media de los AAA ya de por si medicre sino por debajo de la media de JRPG hechos por una sola persona con RPGmaker. A nivel de combate y de exploración es terrible, como si lo hubiese hecho alguien que jamás a jugado un JRPG y le piden que construya uno sin referencias. Un NPC se llama Biggs, lo cual es una declaración de intenciones: pero para venir supuestamente influenciado de Final Fantasy no es que hayan puesto ningún esfuerzo en aplicar sus enseñanzas. No existe exploración de ningún tipo, el mapa podría haber sido substituido por una transición de escenas porque no hay nada que hacer en el, solo caminar de punto A a punto B sin desvíos, ni bifurcaciones ni secretos. El inventario es reducido y poco ingenioso, las habilidades simplificadas, sin árbol ni desarrollo. Dificultad errática, mal balanceada, jefes que son esponjas de daño que requieren de peleas de 15 o 20 minutos.

    Los enemigos aleatorios comunes se basan en 5 sprite que cambian de color según su nivel: lobos, goblins, slimes, soldados A, soldados B. Luego hay algunas zonas con enemigos diferenciados a parte de estos genéricos: magos, golems, mosquitos explosivos y… Que no recuerde más lo dice todo, esos son todos los enemigos aleatorios que puedes esperar encontrar en tu aventura. El bestario total sumando enemigos especiales y jefes apenas debe rondar los 30; pueden excusarse en que para cada enemigo hay tres sprites, pero eso no cambia que el bestiario es ridículamente reducido. La historia es también insalvable, tenían material para hacer algo grande pero parece haber sido escrita en una servilleta mientras el guionista desayunaba; puedo romper una lanza a favor de la caracterización de personajes porque Zas me parece un personaje genial que no se puede construir en un dia, pero eso no cambia que el guión haya sido escrito con una pereza mal disimulada.

    Para mi todo lo que he mencionado en este párrafo es infinitamente más grave que lo que viene ahora, pero quien tenga la intención de comprarlo tiene derecho a saberlo: Las pantallas de carga son absurdas, siempre entre 10 y 25 segundos, al entrar y salir de cada batalla y tras cada cambio de cubículo del mapeado, lo que significa que puedes esperar ver la pantalla de carga unas 300-600 veces antes de acabar el juego por lo que en tu aventura pasarás aproximadamente 2 horas y media viendo la pantalla de carga. Fuera de eso hay bugs en los efectos de sonido, más concretamente, de que en ciertos momentos los efectos de sonido en combate dejan de escucharse y peleas en silencio. Esperé 4 semanas desde su salida bajo la esperanza de que hubiese un parche para solucionar estos problemas, pero no llegó y decidí continuar ignorando estos problemas. Finalmente hay fallos de desarrollo como diálogos que saltan dando por hecho que has escuchado un dialogo previo que lo contextualiza pero el cual no has tenido, o que (ojo a esta explicación) en una pelea importante concreta tu grupo se ve derrotado y una magia les envuelve y les teletransporta a otra parte del mundo, el enemigo se queda pensando en voz alta y ¡Plot! mientras el enemigo sigue con su dialogo interno en pantalla reaparece tu grupo otra vez como si la pelea no hubiese sido interrumpida, pero inmediatamente después hay un cambio de escena y en efecto estás en otra parte del mundo. ¿Qué pasó con los testers de este juego? ¿Y porqué después de 4 semana no arreglan un error tan grave como este?

    Solo falta decir que tras todo lo citado es evidente que el precio de 40$ es una estafa cruel.

    Grupo de desarrolladores: Es evidente que algunos de vuestros integrantes han puesto esfuerzo y amor, y tengo fe en que la culpa de que el juego haya salido tan (…pongan ustedes un adjetivo…) no es culpa de otro más que de la dirección y sus imposiciones de simplificar absolutamente todo, además metiendo prisa (probablemente por presión de una gran entidad) a un proyecto que necesitaba más tiempo, mucho más tiempo, para poder desarrollarse en todo el esplendor que no me cabe duda podría haber alcanzado bajo otras circunstancias.    … Expand
