This is not a polished title or a fun one. The difficulty level is ridiculous, especially for a cart game. There's no tutorial mode other than some sloppy cutscenes. It just drops you in and wishes you well. Easy mode is too easy and medium is maniacal.

If you hit one level hazard and or hit by the CPU you may as well restart the race - you have zero chance of winning.
I saw that the game will no longer be receiving future updates and that is a shame. Looks like the devs were only interested in the micro trans, sad. This game probably would have been more successful if the game play was the priority.

Let me start by saying that the boys at Beenox did an outstanding job at recreating this game from the ground up. So much care was put into the designs of the tracks and making the characters so much livelier. The game gets an A+ in that department. Sadly, to many gamers' dismay, Activision announced that they would be implementing micro-transactions in what was supposed to be a fun, re-imagining of a fan-favorite classic. Also keep in mind that in a developer interview, it was CLEARLY stated this game would be free of micro-transactions. So the dev was either completely out of the loop or he was lying through his teeth. Activision is very crafty-they figured they could avoid negative press at launch by waiting until reviews come in before deciding to implement micro-transactions; thankfully, many of us have caught wind of this tactic and are calling them out on their bs.

Yes, I know that "Wumpa coins" can still be earned by grinding through the various game modes, but they are dispersed at a slow rate for offline users (I don't pay for PS plus, but apparently the coin dispersal amount is higher). And by the time you actually rack up enough coins, the costume/kart/character that you had your eye on will have most likely disappeared for the month since with the addition of the "grand prix", prizes are rotated every month. This means there is a higher chance desperate gamers will give in and whip out their credit cards.

The video game industry is undoubtedly the biggest it's ever been. And I get that developers work hard and deserve to get paid. But, microtransactions are just pure greed. You ARE NOT paying for new content. The data for the skins/weapons etc are in the game's files. At least some companies like Nintendo charge for DLC that's separate from the base game and that were developed after the game's release.

Ultimately, this game is a lot of fun and is a pretty solid kart racer to play with friends. But, when it comes to unlockables, this game is a total grindfest. Again, I hate to give this game a low score when most of it is done so well, but it's more about sending a message to Activision and any other money-milking company out there.

Fantastic game, but I cannot support predatory practices and shoving micro transactions into a remake of a twenty year old game. It’s honestly disgusting that Activision would do such a thing, and previously my rating for this would have been a 9. It’s a shame corporate greed has ruined a once treasured franchise, and makes me worry for the future of Crash. Shame on you Activision....shame.

The game itself is good. But the load times are unbearable, around 45 seconds each. Most levels are finished in a few minutes. I actually timed them, and for every hour of playtime, I was spending 15mins watching a loading screen.

So all the levels from Nitro Kart (the 2nd game) can only be played in the Arcade or Online modes, despite them having a Story mode in the original Nitro Kart. They could have taken the time investment that they put into microtransactions, and used it to add the missing campaign instead. But they chose the option that favors the publisher, not the player.

And even if you manage to drift AI enemies will speed past you because of idiotic handicap - even if you drive faster kart and drift they magically end in front of you - and thats on normal. I spent a lot of time playing Mario Kart and am quite good at it, won with gold all of the hardest races, but in here I struggle hard to win second story (!) race, I ended on 2nd or 3rd place almost 20 times before I managed to win - I was so mad, that if I hadnt bought digital version I would take it straight back to the store. If you have bad start you can insta-restart the race because there are literally 0 chance to win.
Well A.I. races aside, I bought it to play it with my wife online - another surprise - You can't! There is only local split-screen, but if You want online You have to do it solo - I wasnt aware of it, so if Youre like me - dont buy it. I had countless hours of fun playing split screen online in mario kart on switch, so I was sure that it will be the thing in a game for PS4, but sadly not an option.
Besides, tracks are visually nice but quite boring, and the music is awfull.
So yeah, if You only own Playstation You can say its better than Mario Kart (which is quite dumb, ppl write CTR > MK but obviously didnt play MK so where does this comparision come from?), but if Youre like me and own both platforms, then sorry but Mario Kart is way better.
I wasnt hyped for it and I didnt play the original so no nostalgia factor in my case. And dont get me started about the time when I read about "nintendo fanboys" from a guy wih "GodPlaystation" nickname... I actually like playing games, doesnt matter on what system - I own them all (except xbox, I have good PC :P). This game feels like copy-paste from MK, but just a bit inferior in almost every way, which resulted in huge disapointment because I bought it from impulse of seeing all those optimistic reviews.

The single player content is nothing but frustrating. the tracks are not made to how the karts handle and the annoying rubberbanding the cpus do it out of hand. especially during the objectively cheap bosses. i loved the crash remakes. but ctr is just not fun to me. it only makes me mad and thats not good for a game to have. also the loading times are abysmal.

CTR (1999) is one of my childhood games and one of my favorites.

Then talking about this CTRNF, my first impression of playing this game in one month was EXHAUSTING, BAD, HORRIBLE, UGLY and DILEMATIC. 1. Then talking about this CTRNF, my first impression of playing this game in one month was EXHAUSTING, BAD, HORRIBLE, UGLY and DILEMATIC.

    1. BAD: Loading is very long, on PS4 Slim it can take 40 seconds to 1 minute.

    2. HORRIBLE: the jump button is delayed, and the car feels FLOATING (6 months later my friends recommended Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to me and Boom, this CTRNF game is getting worse and worse. The way the MK8D runs feels intuitive and soft as seen from the responsive tire suspension to the road, response to the turbo, respond when walking on water, when turning and so on) makes this CTRNF gameplay feel outdated. The only advantage of this CTRNF gameplay is that when jumping the animation of the car is made flex, perhaps to cover the shortcomings of the way the car runs, then from the way of jumping which reaches a higher height than MK8D and it is destroyed due to the DELAYING JUMP BUTTON.

    3. EXHAUSTING: the price of one character is 2500 wumpa coins, cars can be more, single player on Electron Avenue is only 80 wumpa coins, when you are disconnected from the internet you can't get wumpa coins at all, of course also can't access the store.

4.UGLY: without internet makes character lists, cars, paint, tires, and stickers look VERY UGLY. Imagine the moment when Activision no longer supports this game and you are too lazy to grind, the list of car characters and others looks more and more destroyed (MK8D's decision to unlock Items from the first time and make Grinding easy, it was a very right decision).

    5. DILEMATIC: The only thing this game is proud of is the graphics, and even then it's not enough because it runs at 30fps on the base model PS4 (dude, MK8D runs at 60fps on the Switch). And that's also what makes you feel bad to uninstall this CTRNF, Remake of this game is very beautiful and also bad.

Conclusion: if you are a fan of Crash, please note that Crash was originally created to copy the Mario franchise and its Mario Kart. CB, CB 2: Cortex Strikes Back, CB 3 Warped and the ending is CTR on PS1. The Crash franchise has an identity crisis, which is why Sony is selling it.

the creation of the next games from Crash on the next generation console starting from the PS2 gives the impression that this franchise is forced to continue its work when it is not necessary.

Original CTR is much better than CTRNF, graphics are not the most important.

There is something in the past that is better in the past

Both game started with terrible loading times but the trilogy was fixed, this game was not.

The online problems are way too many to make it a great game: Terrible matchmaking, its P2P so the host has the best ping and the others usually have latency, especially since its regional as well so it can be very hard to find lobbies. Also you have to wait so long for each track, then everybody leaves and another 10minutes to wait for the next 2min track.

On top of that there are easy cheats/exploits in the tracks that the developers have not fixed which bluefire nerds take advantage of and beat the levels sometimes in seconds. And if the host leaves everyone disconnects.
I could say so many other things about the online but this is quite a bit but Activision added microtransactions and made it EVEN harder to collect coins so thats great.
For a nostalgic game that has always been one of the best racing games ever made and in my opinion the best kart racer on the planet (original CTR) this release is ridiculously disappointing.

Positive things: Only thing that makes this game stand out is the remade story mode and the amazing graphics while racing, its also great how many updates have been made that added so many characters and maps to play. If the loading would be better i would give it 8/10 - It is after all the main reason why the playerbase for this game is dead, the matchmaking and overall loading times needed to be addressed, also just an update for the MP - Tournaments/Online Cups, just anything really...

Since start the game wasn't in a healthy state: there is ton of bugs (damn, I couldn't even launch arcade mode because the game refused to submit at preferences menu), dead online (I have to wait about 5 minutes to get a game with 3-4 people in it while there is 8 slots, so there is no fun at all) and 30 fps for racing game (Mario Kart 8 running on Switch with 60 fps and has better graphics). And now instead of actually fixing the game they bringing micro transactions to game with E10+ rating despite the promise not to do that, which pissed people off! The game is another try to monetize nostalgia, that's it.

Nostalgia might well have carried this one through, but in truth it doesn’t need it: this is a great game that has for the most part aged remarkably well, with the visual upgrade and other tweaks serving to make absolutely certain it’s worth the price of admission; I just wish the AI didn’t sometimes feel so cheap. It’s rare that a game can be as good as it was 20 years ago in a modern re-release – but this classic kart racer manages it.

Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled is just about perfect at what it’s trying to do. The redone adventure mode is a blast minus the grind required to get coins to unlock stuff, and the core gameplay has been refined. This results in the best-playing Crash racing game ever and yet another top-shelf kart racer. Right now, the genre is as big as it’s been in 20 years, with Sonic, Mario, and Crash all competing at stores and the best thing for players is that you can’t go wrong with any of them. Crash offers up a tremendous game overall and it’s definitely an experience I would put above Team Sonic Racing, but ever so slightly behind Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
